Cycle 4A
Reckless Apes

Unlike the other three factions, who operated under their one singular purpose, the Lions were seen everywhere. Noble knights in shining armor, helping those in need. Some were on guard duties for supplies or tended to the wounded, others killed whatever local wild-life was coming too close to camp, a few even found the time to make the one or other make-shift grave to pray for those who had fallen before them, and yet other groups could be seen reinforcing the very camp they were resting in.

"A resting Lion is a happy Lion.," or something along those lines, was a saying that the one or other Lion had surely heard before. As the best case scenario implied, the Lion's Arms wouldn't be of need. Sadly, these weren't the times for such luxury.

Levi could be seen under a makeshift canopy, the roof strapped between some wooden logs and a wagon in dire need of repair. Leaning over a map that was settled on a wooden table, clearly in discussion with a few of the other Lions who had just returned from a small scouting trip.

We have to deal with this quickly. Take the initiative and strike before they manage to deal more damage.

He pointed at various locations on the map in front of him. Those close could hear the conversation going on about something in regard to monkeys, apes, chaos, dangers and striking swiftly. In fact, after discussing further with a glasses wearing brunette clad in blue, who was right next to him, he got up from the table and left the makeshift canopy.

Attention, Lions!

Hey, Hey! You're announcing our super cool name change already? I knew I could count on you, Levi!

Chad was promptly ignored. Instead, the brunette right next to Levi spoke up as the Lions attention shifted on them. Her voice carried a precise and even tone, as if she was used to speaking amongst the upper classes. For anyone coming from the 'real world', her dialect reminded one of an upper class Brit.

With our intrusion into Isulus proper, it appears we have drawn unwanted attention from a peculiar tribe of beasts upon us. They have come to be known as the Reckless Apes and, according to a few of our members, have already delivered quite some destruction to our undertaking. There have been reports about a kidnapping, the theft of goods, and sightings of a group of Skullbearers.

The Reckless Apes brains are usually exposed, naked on top of their head. The Skullbearers are a sort of elite that wear the bones of their enemy as protection. You can think of them as a sort of elite task force.

Levi is absolutely correct. To properly deal with the tasks at hand in a timely fashion, we shall split into three groups. One group for each problem. Though I am afraid to say we do not know their exact locations, there is an estimate to where each of group of enemies reside. The stolen goods are, in fact, quite close.

She paused for a moment, adjusting her glasses and taking a breather.

Being a Lion is, among many other virtues traits, about cooperation and trust. We are family to each other. Always keep that in mind. If you are under the impression that the task ahead is too daunting, always remember, the other Lions have your back. Oh! And you may also call me Misha.

With that, she gave a small bow as her briefing seemed to be finished.

Alright, you'll get the rest of the info as we're moving out! Chad will help with the stolen goods. I'll participate in the rescue operation, and Misha here will accompany the rest to intercept the Skullbearers.

Noblesse Oblige!

Raising his fist above his heart, the other Lions followed his roar: Noblesse Oblige!

And they moved out...

Meanwhile, not too long ago, somewhere deeper in the jungle...

The jungle grew restless as the vibrations of countless wagons and footsteps could be felt even miles afar...

Ook Ook Eek! Ook Ook Eek! Ook Ook Eek!

(INTRUDERS! INTRUDERS! INTRUDERS!)

A particular group of monsters was in an uproar. For they had been the uncontested kings of the jungle not too long ago.

Ook ook eek ook. Ook ook eek eek. Ook ook eek ook-eek. Ooh-ooh ah-ah!?

(Intruders bring sickness. Intruders want ape place. Intruders look ugly. What do we do!?)

The question, of course, was rhetorical, as the apes grew more restless in the treetops. Always having been an aggressive species, recent events seemed to have made them even more aggressive. They all chanted in unison.

Ook Ook Eek Aak! Ook Ook Eek Aak! Ook Ook Eek Aak! Ook Ook Eek Aak!

(KILL THE INTRUDERS! REND THEIR FLESH! DRINK THEIR BLOOD! GATHER THEIR SKULLS!)

And as the jungle trembled, the oldest and most wisest among the Reckless Apes spoke. His words were quiet, yet carried enough presence to temporarily calm down the other apes.

Ooh-ooh-ah-aah-ooh-eek-eek-aak-ook-oh... ook-ook-aak.

(Smart we must act, and a strategy we must have. Strike them we must do, with precision that leaves them no clue...)

And thus, they began scheming...

An insidious heist to halt the MIT's research.

A deplorable kidnapping to cripple the Adventurers Guild.

A ruthless kill-squad, to silence the Whistles once more.

Yet, little did they know about a Lion's favorite meal...

Tasks at Hand
Pick one and return order to the jungle!

Stolen Goods

The Reckless Apes have taken some of the MIT's crucial ingredients and lab equipment with them! They're still close, but only for so long...

Failure to return the goods relatively undamaged is sure to set back the MIT's progress...

Skullbearer Combat

The Skullbearers are known as the most fierce among the Reckless Apes. A small group is preparing for a coordinated assault against the Explorer's League efforts.

Leaving them unchecked is sure to leave some whistles without an owner...

Rescue Party

According to our information, a crucial member of the Adventurers Guild got kidnapped. Bring them back at once!

It's only a question of time until they get rid of them...

Stolen Goods
Charming Obliges

Intended Difficulty: Easy

Not too far from the mushroom hut that served as the MIT's headquarters, you come across a caravan of Reckless Apes in the midst of making off with the goodies of their heist. While some are tactfully defending the heister Apes, others seem already quite... enchanted, clearly having been too curious in getting a first-hand taste of what the MIT was cooking with.

You've decided to bring back the MIT's stolen goods. First, you have to rout the Reckless Apes. Once the Combat number is full, only then you can start rolling for Goods Returned.

Combat

The Reckless Apes are in disarray, a good and decisive beating will leave them running and abandoning whatever they have stolen.
  • All combat actions on the play sheet are permitted EXCEPT Special Actions and Armor Abilities, courtesy to the MIT's goods having to be treated with care.
  • Bonus: Tag and include any other player also participating in this Task to gain a +10 bonus to your roll!
  • Damage: Regardless of what action you perform in combat, take 10 retaliation damagethe moment you post and record it within the [status*] BBcode. All reductions apply if applicable.
  • 150 is the amount necessary to get the Reckless Apes running for good! Combat Progress: 000/150 count UP!
Goods Returned
With the Reckless Apes sent running or dead to your feet, it is now time to bring back the stolen goodies to where they belong. A lot of the apparatus and ingredients look quite alien to you, is that rock even alive!? You should probably handle them with care...
  • All expertise checks on the play sheet are permitted.
  • Bonus: Tag and include any other player also participating in this Task to gain a +10 bonus to your roll!
  • 150 is the amount necessary to get all the stolen goods back! Goods Returned: 000/150 count UP!

Skullbearer Combat
Stalwart Defenders

Intended Difficulty: Hard

Amidst a small clearing, you see a special group of Apes. Each wearing a skull of different form, size, and features. Their calm attitude might even be scary. A few of them sharpen their weapons, ranging from plundered adventurers before you to animal parts of much larger species, while others were mixing together something explosive inside some hollow coconuts. They were preparing for a raid, and while the element of surprise may be on your side, these Reckless Apes quickly get ready for combat.

You've decided to take out the Skullbearers before they make their move! The best defense is a strong offense, as some say. While a Skullbearer might, despite protection on their head, not be the sturdiest monster, they know exactly where to hurt. Often trading blows for blows...

Skullbearers Encountered!

LP 7 DC 50 40

Special: Non-special support actions take half damage (20)

See Auto Monster for more combat assistance.
Combat
While likely not too difficult to kill all of them, taking as little damage as possible is going to be the challenge here. This is a battle against an Auto Monster!

  • Auto Monster: Use any action to deal with the Skullbearers. Non-special support actions take half damage (20). If your attack roll result equals or exceed the DC, subtract 1 LP. If your roll results double the DC, subtract 2 LP. The enemy is subdued when the LP hits 0.
    LP 7, DC 50, RETAL 40.
  • All combat actions on the play sheet are permitted.
  • Bonus: Tag and include any other player also participating in this Task to gain a +10 bonus to your roll!
  • 7 LP is the amount necessary to kill them all! Combat Progress: 7/7 count DOWN!

Rescue Party
Knights in Shining Armor

Intended Difficulty: Medium

While one might certainly wonder why the Reckless Apes retort to kidnapping, rather than outright massacre, you aren't left with too much time thinking about it. And, at the very least, are quite happy to be provided with this opportunity.

It doesn't take you too loo long to track down the struggling hostage, either, carried like a sack of potatoes amongst a particular muscular and agile group of Reckless Apes. Too slow an act, and they might just break her neck...

You've decided to help free the hostage! While only a group of few, the Apes use the treetops and terrain to their advantage. Treating their hostage like a volleyball to throw between each other, as you may rush to take them out.

Rescue Operations
Rather than piling on power, speed and precision is important here. For this challenge, your group is required to beat a specific Mastery Check multiple times, representing multiple attempts at rescue and striking at the apes, before finally succeeding in a group effort.
  • All Mastery Checks on the play sheet are permitted.
  • Bonus: Tag and include any other player also participating in this Task to gain a +10 bonus to your roll!
  • Retaliation Damage: Regardless of what Mastery Check you perform, take 15 damage the moment you post and record it within the [status*] BBcode. All reductions apply if applicable.
  • 5 is the amount of successes needed to successfully finish the rescue operation. The DC to beat is 50.
    • If you have a movement of three or higher, you may roll with advantage (click on the Adv button on the play sheet).
    • If you succeed in your check, increase the count by 1.

Task: Skullbearer Combat
Red Fever (2): Joy
-40 HP from Retaliation Damage

As Bradwynne attended the briefing, he then volunteered to shoulder the hard task of beating off the elite of the monkeys. He hoped that his friend and trusted ally @Sean Poteitoku would also agree to this proposition, and he was elated that the latter also agreed to take the elite on. It was not every day he could rely on such a trusted partner, and he vowed to make sure that they would both make out of this alive.

As they then progressed through the forest, Bradwynne then saw them. Just within the clearing, totally clueless on what's going on. They might be wearing skull helmets, but they might as well be wearing nothing if everything was to be concerned. He had communicated to Sean and others in what he would do to distract them, and when he had done the deed, they would attack.

The time was now. A ball of light was then hurled at the monkeys, taking out one of them before it expanded into a sea of white, as all monkeys within the expanding ball was then blinded momentarily. The time had come to prove to these monkeys who had the superior mind.

"I will leave it all into your hands, Sean!" Bradwynne then said in his mind, still very elated at his success. So elated, that he did not notice a root on the ground as he strode back. Ouch.

Task: Rescue Party
Red Fever (2): Anger
-15 HP from Retaliation Damage

While the obvious thing to do would be to rush to the fight, Siliya knew she had to do the responsible thing and save the life of the person getting tossed around like a hot potato. It was all really annoying, but her previous attempt at combat had found her really lacking and leaving charging off to fight while leaving someone to die left a bad taste in her mouth. She was supposed to be a champion of justice, hope and prosperity, and that meant doing the boring but responsible thing.

Luckily, there were plenty of shadows around with all the tall trees and the like. The first thing to do was to get on equal ground, to that end, Siliya started to form a rope of shadows leading up to the higher end of a particularly big tree. Her powers were still untrained, and rushing in was a recipe for failure. She really, really wanted to just go up to the monkeys and smash their stupid faces in, but- that was weird. She normally needed a lot more reasons to get that worked up. Maybe that was the whole deal with the Red Fever status effect she had no idea about? Making you angry? It would fit the name and explain why she felt so annoyed the whole way throughout. She'd be jumping at the chance to play hero and save someone innocent(?) in any other scenario.

Feeling conflicted about how her emotions were out of whack, the rope of shadow was going to be of tenuous strength at the best of times. When she was about halfway up the tree, a particularly loud scream from the hostage broke her concentration and the rope snapped. She managed to hold on and avoid falling all the way down but couldn't avoid a particularly nasty scrape against her leg. Taking a quick break on a branch, she checked her injuries. It wasn't anything serious, but it would hurt like hell and the possibility of infection crept into her mind. She clamped down hard on the rising anger, trying to focus on other options. Maybe ranged attacks next time? Siliya couldn't wait to pin the monkeys to the trees they loved so much.

Task: Skullbearer Combat
Red Fever (2) Anger
-20 HP from Retaliation damage (Protected by Harlow)

Elite apes wearing skulls... sounds dangerous. I should help take them out.

Once the briefing was finished, complete with Sean bringing his fist to his chest for the Lion Arms salute, he made his way over to Misha for the Skullbearer interception, as he agreed with @Bradwynne to do. "Sounds like we've got our work cut out for us. Let's do this. I'll make sure they wish they never crossed paths with us." He could feel an unusual amount of anger welling up inside him, and he was ready to use it against his enemies.

As the Skullbearer Interception Group (a squad name Sean had thought up but not told anybody) began its ambush, Sean lept up into the trees and waited for a chance to strike. His chance came rather quickly when Bradwynne blinded the apes. Sean took the opportunity and launched himself out of his tree, plunging his sword straight into a Skullbearer's head. He overestimated his momentum, however, and crashed into the ground. His recovery was at least quick as he jumped to his feet.

Red Fever (2): Sadness

For the apes he could see in the distance, hovering around a small clearing in the distance, being mutated or deformed, he felt guilt in taking their lives but there was nothing to be done, and he very well doubted they could be reasoned with. For a moment, as he looked down towards the saturated ground, he sighed in sorrows. When he rose his head, fires were burning in his eyes, his focus anchoring solely on the enemy. He was ready. Materializing Murasama within the palms of his hands, he swung his right leg back and rose his Odachi until the guard sat leveled with his cheeks. He rose his voice so everyone could hear.

THERE'S A OPENING! LETS GO! TIME TO HIT EM HARD!

Hoping @Sean Poteitoku, @Bradwynne and anyone part of the group heard him, he readied himself with a offensive stance before he decided to make the initial move, not wanting them to get close to the encampment. After making one last exhale of air, he sprinted directly for the enemy. Moments later, as both him and the apes drew close, he immediately halted and switched stances. As they drew themselves in for an assault, he immediately twitched his wrist in the opposite direction and began unleashing a number of powerful diagonal strikes while he retained himself from his defensive stance. Although he managed to cut a few down, others managed to get past him in his blind spot. A growl escaped him as he felt one of their weapons digging into his skin, inadvertently causing him to swing his massive blade in his blind spot, only to miss the dam thing, leaving him open to attack from another attack. This time however, he remained unfazed by the blood they drew. This was nothing compared to what he had fought before.

Task: Rescue Party
Red Fever (2): Disgust
-15 HP from Retaliation Damage

Disgusting wasn't even the beginning of how he would describe it.

Rotten apes, tossing around some poor sap like a game of hot potato. First mushroom people, and now them? Halueth was beginning to think they'd be better off murdering every last one until they got the message.

They weren't the predators, they were the prey. Inferior.

Halueth gripped the spear he'd admittedly still yet to use all that much, testing its weight. And he was determined to show them that here and now. Almost as if he'd read Siliya's mind, Halueth reached one arm back, releasing his spear like a bolt of lightning from Zeus (not that one!), metal tearing through leaves and branches, just managing to pin one monkey against a tree.

Albeit, not before it managed to toss the sack around again. Halueth clicked his tongue, "Bastards..."

Task: Rescue party
Red Fever (2) - Disgust
(-15 HP from Retaliation damage)

While the journey to the camp had been pretty nice, even including the mushroom attack, everything seemed to be going downhill from there. The sight of the macabre slaughter at the camp had left Vina with an upset stomach, and now she was told they'd have to contend with some monkeys who for some forsaken reason had their brains exposed. The vixen grimaced, placing one hand against her stomach before taking a deep breath. She wouldn't be able to help if she was too busy feeling queasy.

I'm going to help rescue their hostage. I'd appreciate it if the two of you came to help as well, but choose whatever task you're the most confident about~

Those words were directed at Cleo and Fina, and depending on whether they'd join the rescue party or not Vina would wave at them before setting off.

She ran after Siliya and Halueth, quickly catching up with them to where the apes were playing with one of the brave adventurers who had joined them on this expedition. The sight made Vina's bile rise, her usually cheerful demeanour replaced by one of disgust. Even if they were the ones intruding on the territory of these creatures, she could tell they were reveling in the cruelty they were inflicting upon their captive. That wasn't something she could appreciate at all.

Unfortunately, she couldn't do much against it either. After Halueth managed to take down one of the apes Vina tried to knock the next one over with a gust of wind, but because she couldn't risk hurting the adventurer her winds blew harmlessly around the primates, who kept carrying the adventurer further away.

Being drenched by the rain, directed all around the camp, and now also tossed into the middle of another chaos. All of it was starting to really get on Fina's nerves. Already a fairly explosive person, she felt like she could smash someone's face in if they talked to her wrong. That said, the matters at hand seemed pretty serious. She hardly cared about the stolen goods, but being attacked by more monsters and a kidnapping? If that kidnapped individual was a player, then they were in trouble. Knowing the consequences of death in this place, the feline made her decision, even without @Vina Skysong's input.

Doing her best to calm herself and not let the bubbling anger take over her, she sprinted in the direction of the apes running off with the unfortunate victim. Being a tiny bit behind, she witnessed the feat of @Halueth Ruina, which gave her a bit of an idea. "Nice throw!" She complimented the man's skill before charging ahead, not into the fray but toward one of the giant trees. Finally getting the hang of this body's fitness and strength, she quickly got up on one of the higher branches and aimed as several blades manifested all around her.

Releasing the barrage, at least a few of them were bound to hit and cut up a few of the monkeys into ribbons. And if they tried to use the hostage as a meat shield, there was always the trick she figured out when training with @Cleo Looker, using the power of her mastery to steer the flying weapons in a different direction before they'd hit the unintended mark. "Be cut to pieces, you ugly fucks!"

Task: Skullbearer Combat
Red Fever (2) - Fear
-40 HP from Retaliation damage

Among these Lions, Harlow felt alone. He had seen a few on the journey prior, but had hardly befriended them. He was wading in a well of strangers. Harlow had come only to notice the resonating warmth in his core, and not any other symptoms, as their tasks were outlined.

He decided that his talents, limited as they were, could be of use in taking down this elite batch of Skullbearers. @Bradwynne and @Sean Poteitoku seemed to know each other, and he got the sense that those two, alongside @Seto Kurama, were considerably more experienced players than himself. This feeling was confirmed when Bradwynne delivered the first strike on their unsuspecting foes.

In perfect coordination with the flash of light, which thoroughly dazed the batch of elite foes, the Magia watched as Sean descended from the treetops in a lethal plunging attack. The Skullbearer that the red haired Lion landed on was, as accurately described by Harlow's thoughts, toast.

While Seto dashed forwards and clashed with the beasts, Harlow stayed back, summoning his own sword from what appeared like a projector from within his eyes. His weapon was far from the ceremonious glory of the Murasama, but shared some traits as a fellow katana.

His eyes flicked around. In the trees, he soon caught sight of one. A Skullbearer in the branches was psyching itself up, eager to attempt Sean's deadly descent technique, since it had been so successful (and awesome).

"Sean. Approaching. Over." As Sean quickly got back to their feet, Harlow darted to his fellow Lion's side, pointing the tip of his blade upwards and impaling the plummeting Skullbearer. Gravity ran the body through, the abdomen landing at the hilt, limbs slumping.

With enemy slain and ally protected, he should've been proud, but there was something unnervingly horrible about it. There was surprise that lingered in those dying candlelight eyes, still hung on his blade. Harlow raised a hand forwards to press against the chest and retrieve his weapon. With his palm against the creature's chest, he felt the final, fleeting heartbeat, before pulling free his imbedded blade, gleaming edge painted ingloriously.

Harlow winced with the thud of the falling corpse. His typically rapidly moving eyes stared down at his murder. Perhaps he never should've come. Perhaps he should've gone on the rescue with @Siliya and the others. He took a step back, slowly shaking his head. Such potent fear.

No... I've gone too far again.

Task: Skullbearer Combat
Red Fever (2) - Joy! :D
-40 HP from Retaliation damage

Despite being absolutely soaked to the bone from all the rainfall, getting looked over once by the Lion Arms higher ups on the scene and told "you'll do; go kill some monkeys with helmets", and having butt-all to contribute to the group stratagem (as she's always worked better solo or in duos, and had dumped her points into her masteries as such), Madison Freebird was feeling pretty frickin' good about herself right now!

The clearing had been reached, and the brilliant flash of light signaled the beginning of the surprise attack. Which side ended up being surprised more? Well, that was up for debate, really. Because intel was absolutely correct--these Skullbearers were Rude-with-a-capital-R!

Madison had drifted to the edge of the field, taking cover in the shadows of the giant flora that surrounded the clearing. Her rifle cracked with thunder and fire every two seconds, as she methodically brained monkey after monkey.

So elated with the idea that she was killing again that she didn't see the big brute behind her.

A rush of pain ripped through the back of her head as a big, meaty stick hit her. The gunslinger was sent sprawling onto the wet grass. Madison, having set her pain receptors to Weak Baby Trash in her UI beforehand, quickly recovered. The only sign of injury was the health bar in the corner of her vision nearing 50%.

"Well now, aren't you a cheeky one," she laughed, rolling onto her back and tearing her revolvers from their holsters. Four pulls of the trigger, and the ape dropped lifeless to the ground at her feet.

This was fifty different kinds of messed up. What cruel twist of fate could manufacture creatures with exposed brains, capable enough of thought that they were able to take captives and plan things out? Her teeth gnashed against her tongue, the taste of copper filling her mouth, though it didn't help wash down the surge of disgust at everything that was happening. After this, nobody would ever try to convince her that this game was not a menace, that people shouldn't be made to stop playing it.

But if @Vina Skysong was going on a rescue mission, then she would go too. With some training when dealing with hostage takers, one would have thought that perhaps Cleo would show up and try to negotiate with the beasts, or maybe stay back and coordinate rescue attempts somehow?

So then, perhaps the last thing anybody had expected was for the agent to leap high into the air, as others harassed the apes, particularly @Fina Drago employing one of the tactics they'd trained together, and essentially carpet bomb them with spears. The nanosecond that a spear had left her hand, another hand already appeared to take its place.

A veritable wall of crimson fell onto the contingent of apes, raining down from a single woman, who watched in disgust as her assault left apes pinned to the floor, impaled and left where she'd killed them. They fell like dominoes. Some were wounded, others pinned to the floor. And all in all, their progress began to be impeded, by a veritable forest of blood red spears.

It was muggy.

The air felt heavy, like a boulder sitting on his chest. It was difficult to breathe, to even think. His arms hung stiffly at his sides, his fingers balled into fists that rested against his thighs. A muscle in his jaw ticks and his crimson eyes dart from passing face to passing face, each absorbed in whatever task had their attention.

Asher doesn't understand where this rage comes from, but it is all-consuming; so much so that before he knows where or what he's doing, he's already away from the camp.

His brain is on auto-pilot and he feels the need to work these demons from his shoulders, from his legs, from consuming his heart in a blaze of madness kindled by fire. He had overheard that the local wildlife was the reason that the MIT was missing supplies and while he felt he would probably be better rescuing others that were kidnapped, there was a piece of his mind that rebelled at being around, well, anyone in this state.

The only way to solve this problem was to exert himself, to throw his body into battle and hope that the blood and the rain cleansed him of fury.

Task: Stolen Goods
Red Fever (3) / Sadness

Hmmm. what to do what to do...

As the Lion team explained what needed doing, Majolica, still heavily cloaked to conceal her identity would hang in the back alone.

These aren't the same people I used to know when I was a Lion, hehe. Where's Zeus?

Suddenly a tinge of sadness crept over the little witch.

So much has changed. Do I even still have a place in this world anymore? Not really. Even if I wasn't here everything would be fine.

Majolica wasn't sure where this gloom was coming from but she knew it was praying on emotions that she had set aside until now. Still, she couldn't let it hold her back. She had a job to do and people to protect.

Waiting to see where the other party members went, Majolica made sure to steer clear of Sean and Bradwynne. It wouldn't due to have her cover blown, not yet. As the groups began rushing out, Majolica ventured outside deciding to she would go where she was needed. As the witch walked out, she noticed a man that had been part of the group fighting apes.

Hehehe, sneaky little ape goblins... but will my spells even be strong enough to hurt them? The world has changed. Maybe I'm not as strong as I used to be...

The sadness crept into Majolica's head again but shaking herself free of the thoughts, Majolica entered combat.

I'll assist, hehe.

Conjuring her witch fire, Majolica sent several small balls of fire at the remaining apes. The projectiles would reach each ape and incinerate them leaving nothing but bones and ash.

Giving @Asher a small wave, Majolica would skulk back to the shadows of the mushroom house.

Red Fever (2) Fear

Most members of the Lion Arms, and their temporary members for the sake of giving it a whirl, would largely remain unaware of the individual butterflies that lingered near the different groups.

One of his darlings whispered the scenes into his mind of a man who threw lightning like Jupiter and an angel of shadows who took a great fall. Of a woman who moved with the wind and two others whose blades and spears moved instead like hurricanes. His heart stopped for just a moment when the rope had broken, but he was swiftly assured that she had caught herself.

Alastair was confused at the faint tremble in his hands and the unnecessary anxiety that wormed its way into his chest. She was fine. So far, they were all fine.

Another showed foggy, fleeting images. A demon fought in the skin of a man and a girl wreathed him, fittingly, in fire before the flames consumed the small soul. His vision there was gone. The other butterfly, following those attempting to retrieve supplies, had yet to send him any tendrils of information through the bond of his Summoning.

The final group he himself was tailing - admittedly at a distance given their dangerous task. The butterfly assigned to them bled over the wounds of two almost-children with blonde and red hair respectively, two men with Asian aesthetics, and a woman with a skull-painted face, ironically firing on apes donned in skull helms. A few were poor off in each of the groups, but Alastair acted without thinking when his summon locked onto the soul of the brute behind the wildly laughing woman. Jesus Christ, what the fuck was wrong with people? Laughing at near death in a death game. Playing the bloody things in the first place!

From one of the dead near @Madison Freebird rose a freshly hatched soul that fluttered over to her in her fanned hammers' aftermath. There was a gentle glow and what little soothing balm its weak energy could provide.

While it was a pity that only Miss @Emilia went with him, that others went elsewhere, Hyakin was glad that the red-haired girl went with him. He felt protective over her, because she was so curious and positive, small and even less knowledgeable about the game than he was. She was a bigger newbie than he was and he could help her. Like a knight.

Together, they followed the Lion Arms delegation and started to help around the camp. There was something to hold and as Hyakin held it up, Miss Emilia tied it up. They ended up working pretty well together, doing odd jobs here and there.

Of course when the leader of the Lion Arms yelled for attention, Hyakin’s head swivelled towards him and he paused in his actions, listening. He spared a moment to make sure Miss Emilia also heard what was going on. His face turned troubled, his eyes narrowed and his lips were set in frown.

Hyakin gauged what he felt was important and what could he do. Immediately he discarded the thought of fighting the elites; he, they were new players. And yet, the thought of just recovering goods felt wrong. That was not why he was here, in this world.

“Miss Emilia… Shall we follow those foul apes and save the one in danger?” He asked loudly, grinning as she agreed.

Thus, they followed the Lord Commander. A small group ran quickly. He ran, fast and yet he did not fall over gasping after ten seconds. It still made him feel glee and wonder.

The party caught up to the kidnappers.
A shudder of disgust ran down his spine at the sight of the uncovered brains; pink, glistening, disgusting.

And vulnerable.

They ran in the trees, fast, throwing the sack with their hostage around.

Shadows leashed out.
Wind rustled.
Weapons were thrown. Spears, spears.

His eyes narrowed as he eyes them. He gripped his shield and still running, took a breath, shifting the hold on the shield. A small shimmer of energy covered the shield, Hyakin pulled his arm back. For a moment, he saw it, the hostage was a person in need of rescue, his shield would keep them safe.

The exposed brain glistened.

“HAAA!” With a shout, he threw the shield, like a disk. It flew while spinning. The ape sensed its doom and yeeted the hostage.

“Tch. There’s only one more!”

Task: Stolen Goods
Red Fever (2) - Anger
(-10 HP from Retaliation damage)

"AAAAAAAAAAH! Stupid, asshole apes!" Hanno growled, consumed by an unexpected rage, something extremely rare for one of the most chill Faerin who existed. As he mumbled, he tied a rope around his waist and then tied to rope on his shield, tossing it behind his back as if it was a sled before nearing a barrel that he quickly picked up.

Grabbing a giant barrel, he lifted it and huffed. "Those guys that have let these monkeys grab our things, what the hell they were doing? They just watched everything being snatched away and didn't even lift a finger-- And now, look at us, we have to do all the dirty job. That's so annoying, god. God." He groaned, letting out a long sigh and glancing at @Magdalyn.

"Hey mate, come on, give me a hand over here. Grab that crate over there and put it on my shield so I can drag it back. If we gotta be a pack mule, gotta go fucking all in on it." He said, waiting for the blue-haired woman to help him out if she could.

Maybe one act of kindness in that mess would be able to ease his irrational anger at everything.

Task: Rescue Party
Red Fever (2) (Joy)
-15 HP from Retaliation Damage

The blindfolded young woman glanced around quietly. It seemed that the others in the Lion Arms had little to no interest in her. Her slender pale fingers reached up, adjusting the cloth over her eyes a little more snugly. A small grin started to form on her face, her scarlet lips parting slightly to reveal her teeth. For some reason she was feeling ecstatic. This was obviously a sign from Endra that she was doing good, and that this was the perfect moment to inform those around her of the benevolence of her goddess!

She twisted wildly in place, only just now noticing that pretty much everyone had left. Her lips formed a pout, feeling a little left out but not really being able to bring herself to feel sad about it. This was a joyous occasion after all. She took off after @Hyakin Heliodoros shouting after him. The wind whipped by as she ran, tearing the words of the naturally soft spoken woman away as soon as they left her mouth

It didn't matter she would surely convert him whenever she caught up. Why were all these weirdos running anyway??? As she started to grow closer to the group she noticed the shimmering magic of starting to form around his shield, the magical aura bright to her sensitive eyes. It was then that she noticed the last ape catching someone. She would smite the evil kidnapper! Distracted by the strange events in front of her, her foot caught under a rock, sending her flying.

With a yelp and a shout Athena rolled and crashed into a nearby tree, her sword going flying with a significant and surprising amount of force, the golden cross guard smashing into the last of the reckless ape's. Justice. Probably.

Pushing herself up a little the blonde waved her hand wildly greeting her companions. Her joy was evident. "Oh glorious day dear friends! The goddess Endra smiles upon us, bestowing her grace upon my weapon that it might strike down the wily foe!" She grinned from ear to ear, despite the numerous cuts and scrapes from her tumble. "Divine providence has visited us this day!"

"Apes are deader than a bad hitter yeah, got the stuff, heading on over to get even more stuff. That's what I'mma talking bout yeah that's what I'mma talking bout!♪!"

Sarina held a bunch of what looked like amber sludge as she headed towards the mushroom house. This was a breeze! Supposedly people were getting sick and apes were liking MIT's stock but this brunette would not let that get her down! After just dropping the box of sludge and heading off to get whatever else she needed to do Sarina saw someone shouting angrily? Why? This was a game...
