❰ Cont'd from Separate Ways

Before the elf had time to react she’d been checked on the shoulder by the taller woman, Fiora successfully knocking Lúthien away at the nick of time before various white roots had wrapped all around the knightess and dragged her towards the everwhite. "NO!!! GIVE FIO BACK—hnnng!" The blonde had tried to scramble back onto her feet then, the distress in her voice clear and evident, before she felt her muscles spasm as the toxins of the elder being reactivated once more.

”Ә̷̨̛̺̣̙̙͑̅̓̕ơ̸̢̛̦͕̹̾̄͜͝o̷̹͈͉̻̲͑͆̇̒̕b̶̨͖͚̭͖̋̏͑̕͝ ̶̹̺̺͈̘͌̓̄͑͆ɘ̷͇̦̱͙̱̅̓͑̀͛n̵̨̧̼̗̩̔͂͊̋͠ǒ̵̡̻̤̘̞̒́̂̈́ΰ̷̝̬̭͉̞̾̈̂̓ϱ̸̝͎͙̹̣̇̿̓͆͆ʜ̶̩̰̳̲̯̋̄́̍̀.̷̬̞̼̯̓̌̎̊̔ͅ Ą̴̗̩̥̣̈́͊͝͝ɔ̴̠̣̌͋̈́̃͐͜͜͜ɔ̵̡̙̞̠͛̿̉͗͝ͅɘ̶̪̰̤̥͔̈́͊̂̔̃q̴̨̨̛̛͕̗̙̆̍͠Ɉ̷̢̨̲͚̼̿̊̇̑͝ ̵͎̫͖̎͗̄̃͗͜ͅϱ̶͔̯̼̥̼̍͑͊̅̕ō̴͓͙̱̳̤͂̑̿͝b̴̢̬̭̼͉̔̓̆̈́͝.̷̬̞̼̯̓̌̎̊̔ͅ”

Despite her own struggle Lúthien found herself unable to break free from the paralysis a second time, wide eyes watching in horror as the everwhite did away with the protective gear and clothing on her friend. She could feel her anger rising in response to her own inability to come to FIora’s aid, a few stray arcs of lightning dancing around the downed elf in response and preventing any of the roots from taking hold of the downed ranger.

"F-Fi-Fiiiooo—!"

CRACKABOOM!!!

The sudden thunderbolt that rained from the skies momentarily blinded the archer, her eyes closing tightly though there was little Lúthien could do for her sensitive hearing. For what felt like an eternity all the elf could hear was a loud ringing that resonated between her ears, causing the ranger to wince in discomfort. By the time her eyes had adjusted once more Fiora was no longer being held in the air by the everwhite’s vines, the knightess instead standing back on her own feet as she took aim with a blue glowing construct that the elf could easily recognize.

Fiora had sped off with unimaginable speed then, easily dodging and breaking through the tree’s remaining defenses as the knightess leapt up high. Electricity danced around the knightess who then grasped for a bolt, nocking it onto the bowstring as if it was one of Fiora’s self made arrows, before the woman let the elder being have a final taste of lightning. The moment it impacted the surface of the everwhite a bright light took over their vision once more, the sound of shattering echoing around them as the illusion spell was finally broken and the pair were released.

"W-We’re back…?"

Slowly the numbness faded from her limbs as the ranger regained autonomy over then, dragging herself up from the soil as her eyes trailed over the clearing Fiora and she had first stumbled in before. The tree was still present before them, the iridescent white glow it had once held now quickly fading as the entity seemed to become dull and ashened as the seconds passed. Crimson eyes quickly looked away from it then, her concern instead focused on the knightess and Lúthien finally spotted her not too far away.

She hastily scrambled to her feet, her hands clawing at the dirt to find purchase, before the blonde had quickly closed the distance between them. Arms had wrapped around Fiora’s neck then, allowing her body to provide whatever cover it could for the now naked player, as the elf hummed quietly between them. "You did it Fio… that birch won’t be bothering anyone else again." There was a faint attempt to try and crack a joke for the sake of them both, something to try and lighten up the mood even if it was a tiny smidge, though her hold on the woman didn’t lessen as the hummed tune continued to echo between them. Slowly but surely the healing energy was shifted towards the battered woman, the ranger ignoring any wounds that she had sustained in favor of patching up her battered friend—with no room given for Fiora to decline or complain.

When the sweetness of the illusion faded, so had the adrenaline her body been subjected to toned down a decent amount, enough that her condition finally begun to kick in, agonizing lethargy that consumed her limbs and made it all the more difficult to move even. For a moment she wished the fight could go on for a bit longer. Yet that's just her wishing to avoid this moment as much as possible.

The chirping birds, the tall oaks and the sunrays- Yes, they made it out of whatever that hell was, yet the tears wouldn't stop rolling down her cheeks, startling her at first as blood's the first that came to her mind, but the last ten or so minutes were as much as she needed to remember to realize just why her chest feels so heavy right now...

And being on her birthday suit clearly proved it wasn't just some dream. It happened, however difficult to piece it together that is.

"You did it Fio… that birch won’t be bothering anyone else again."

The attention felt nice, if only to keep parts of her warmed up now that the cold breeze left her shivering on her boots (if she had any, this is just an expression of course).

"I just took the kill, you did all the work back there." Fiora tried, but no matter what a smile couldn't be faked right now. "Sorry, I need a moment. And clothes, I'm... I'm cold." The knight's voice finally cracked, pressing her forearm against her features, yet she knew just how late it was; Luth already seen the pain that brew on glassy eyes. Hiding them would do nothing but worry her.

Her sobbing had come to a stop as she closed her eyes and let herself immerse on the soft melody that the ranger hummed along. a calming effect aided by her healing spell that sealed off any imminent, life-threatening wounds.

Is it really dead? Ugh I can't believe that bastard got me. A sigh broke her cool once again just as she pushed herself forth to put herself on a sitting position, a groan tumbled off her lips, her right hand dropped across her features, with a yawn that felt like waking up from an eternal, strange slumber.

Time had passed… Lúthien wasn’t sure as to how much, but it was evident that some time had definitely transpired while they had been fighting in the illusion—though whatever amount it was the blonde was sure it was higher than the time it had taken them to defeat the elder being. Carefully her eyes scanned the clearing once more as the elf held Fiora close, allowing the woman to sob and release whatever frustrations and pent up emotions were currently assaulting her psyche.

She hasn’t thought much of the tracks and marks sprawled around the ground when they’d first arrived, but now that Lúthien looked at them closer (continuing to hum softly for the knightess as her healing spell took effect) and compared them to the ones left by Fiora and herself the ranger could tell they were also recently leftover marks of combat. So we weren’t the only ones…? Slowly the sobs from the woman subsided, and shortly after the elf was sure Fiora had calmed down enough her own tune finally drifted off into silence as the girl pulled away.

"Its okay, we got it back tenfold for being so daring and creepy."

A hand reached over to clean a streak of blood and tears that stained Fiora’s cheek, before practiced movements toggled on the woman’s UI inventory as she rummaged through to see what she had in it that could help clothe her friend once more. A simple and sleeveless light gray top materialized first, followed by some simple undergarments and a pair of brown shorts similar to the ranger’s own. One glance was given to the woman’s feet, before a pair of socks and boots materialized once Fiora had taken the clothes from the blonde’s hands.

"I think these might fit you… maybe?"

There was more Lúthien wished she could say, but the elf was at a loss of words considering how little she knew of the woman accompanying her today—causing the blonde to be unsure as to how she could comfort her newly made friend. Instead her eyes trailed back to the everwhite, watching the heavier branches that now seemingly slumped slightly as the vitality of the being looked to have evaporated along with its ethereal glow.

Brows furrowed slowly as the archer gazed towards it, the thoughts that plagued her own mind hard to ignore—though she refused to voice them out loud. There was no denying she had been out of her game all day, shown by the many times that the archer’s aim had fallen short of the actual vital areas Lúthien had wished to capitalize against the tree… had she shot better, faster, more accurately then Fiora would’ve never found herself trapped on the everwhite’s unwanted embrace.

With Luthien proclaiming just how much they got back at that son of a bitch, how could she really sit here and be a sobbing mess? It acted tough, and they got tougher, and perhaps she should be taking solace on that...

"Yeah. Yeah we fucked it up." She took a deep breath, words weren't enough to cheer herself back up, but the moment had passed. The worst really passed, despite the tree having taken her over that memory trip again.

Luthien's reliability proved itself over and over again, as the elf fidgeted with her inventory (or so she assumed) and pulled a set of clothes. She couldn't hold back a smile. Scarred, but at least the elf knew exactly how to patch up a bad mood. Putting on the clothes handed over to her, Fiora tugged a bit from the fabrics. They weren't perfect, but it's better than nothing, and the gesture was what mattered.

"I think these might fit you… maybe?"

"Do you have a whole wardrobe in there?" Eyebrows rised at the pair of socks and shoes. It's like Luth came prepared for the long-time journey like any adventurer should in the first place. Just hours ago she had been talking about being prepared for Terrasphere, and here she is, with no clothes on her inventory, possibly the most basic of things to pack while you travel...

Her cheeks flustered on embarassment as she recalled just that, sliding on the socks and boots and giving herself and Luth one last glance. "Let's head back. The job's done." She remarked. "...What's in your mind?" It hasn't been long since they've met, but by now it's obvious something sparked thought in the ranger. Not necessarily bad, but she had no way to tell what was going through that little head of hers.

The pair quickly rushed out of Lubeck, straight into the path that would bring them into the woods. Her lower body is still aching, but no way she's gonna tell him about that. Not right now, at least, while they still have a mission to do. "Shouldn't be far from here."

Among the trees, there were considerably thicker layers of the white powder, further confirming their theory that the white tree was not dead yet and released more of its pollen. Perhaps it was only resting when they defeated it?

"Yugam, look."

The brunette pointed into the distance, the dimmed white tree that caused all these problems already in sight. There are silhouettes of people around the menace... Did it manage to attract some victims again? "Shibal." She muttered, speeding up into a rush while summoning the black greatsword Gramr.

"Out of the way!" Moonsong warned the two others near the tree she jumped and swung the blade with her whole body. As her weapon made contact with the dimmed tree, the massive greatsword shattered into pieces, failing to deal any meaningful damage to its structure before dissipating into thin air.

Fuck, is this what I'm only capable of without my suit?

"Clear this area, this tree is dangero—"
She looked back to find two familiar women behind her, one is somehow dressed casually like herself "Fiora?" While the other one is...

Shit.

"Val?"

She called the elf by her real name. Confusion and fear started to grow inside of her.

The eyes that had followed them as they left the town of Lubeck had not been those of thankful villagers, or men and women wishing two adventurer's good fortune as they went out to slay the eldritch evil that threatened them. They didn't even know it existed. The eyes that followed them judged them. Harshly. For being xeni, for being a disturbance, and likely, for being Travellers as well. To them, the man and woman who hurried out the gate could not leave their town quickly enough. But neither man nor woman paid their judging eyes any mind as they rushed down the dirt road towards the battlefield.

They hadn't said a word to each other since they'd left the inn in Lubeck until they were almost upon where they'd woken up hours before, dazed, battered and broken. "Yugam, look." The man's eyes followed Moonsong's finger to where she was pointing, two figures that the man quickly recognized standing near Tree. "Fuck," Yu cursed in tandem with Moonsong.

The woman charged forward before Yu could say anything else, leaping through the air with greatsword raised, swinging it at the inconspicuous looking tree. Her weapon exploded on impact, splinters of metal exploding into the air leaving not even a scratch behind on the Tree's thick trunk.

Yu ran up behind the woman, catching up with her just as he caught her say the tall blonde's name. "Wait, you two know each other?" the man asked in surprise, a hand on his weapon as he came to a stop. "Nevermind," he quickly said, shaking his head slightly before looking at Luthien, brows furrowed with concern. "You guys should leave. That tree..." There were no words that could properly describe that kind of evil. "Just get out of here before it wakes up." It was still dim from the last time that Moonsong and Yu had fought it. Although, Fiora's current state of dress..."Wait, did you guys just fight it?"

A smile finally pulled at the corners of Fiora’s lips, faint as it was, and it caused the elf to release a sigh of relief that Lúthien hadn’t even realized she’d been holding onto until that very moment. Their friendship, if it could be called such, was still in its infancy after all—but even then the elf couldn’t deny that she had rather enjoyed the other woman’s company so far, even if the day had been one mess after another.

"Do you have a whole wardrobe in there?"
"What can I say, Madam Myriil’s boutique carries a lot of things that I like~"

Another faint attempt to lighten up the mood that had settled between them after their unexpected and unpredictable encounter with the everwhite, before the ranger granted Fiora time for her to change into the new garments as Lúthien’s gaze had trailed back to the ashened tree instead. "...What's in your mind?" Perhaps the ranger had made a face unconsciously as she’d been staring at the defeated elder being, the familiar voice of the knightess finally causing Lúthien to look away from the everwhite as she offered the older woman a smile.

"It’s nothing, just being my own worst critic—!"
"Out of the way!"

As the familiar voice reverberated throughout the clearing the archer had visibly stiffened in response, her words instantly dying inside her throat as elven lips were immediately sealed shut in a thin line. There was little need to confirm visually what Lúthien already knew, that voice belonged to no other than Moonsong, before moments later a blur in motion crossed the clearing before the brunette jumped to deliver a blow onto the grayed tree with her summoned greatsword.

It shattered into pieces upon coming in contact with the exposed innerbark of the everwhite, the fragmented metal pieces catching the sunlight and reflecting it in random angles throughout the space before finally littering the ground below. Unconsciously one of Lúthien’s hands had reached for Fiora’s, fingers gripping the woman tightly as the elf spoke in a quick and hushed whisper.

"Hey Fio, let’s just make like a tree and leave—"
”Fiora?”

Although the words themselves were meant to be humorous, much like the active banter the girls had shared before during the fight, this time they lacked any of the clever and playful tones that Lúthien had employed before—and they had quickly been swallowed down once more when the brunette seemed to recognize the knightess. A few additional moments lapsed, time in which Lúthien was sure Moonsong’s eyes had fallen onto her next as the ranger refused to look in the direction of the other woman.

”Val?”

Her eyes had widened in surprise, though it hadn;t been caused by the use of her real life name tumbling from Moonsong’s lips—no, instead it had been an instant reaction to the sudden wave of confusion that emanated from the person she’d referred to as unnie many times before. It wasn’t so much the confusion that had surprised Lúthien, but rather how the emotion had instantly turned itself into an intense fear that radiated clearly from the brunette standing just out of sight of the ranger.

"Wait, did you guys just fight it?"

Somehow she had hoped beyond all hope that there was still a chance for Fiora and herself to dip out of this place before Yugam arrived—something the ranger had been sure had been a matter of when instead of if—before her grip on the knightess hand tightened just as the familiar voice of the man echoed through the clearing next. He seemed surprised to learn that Moonsong and Fiora were seemingly acquainted with one another, before he started urging them to leave until realization seemed to finally dawn on the hunter that he’d been late to arrive.

"Of course we fought it," Her gaze remained downcasted, focused on the very tip of a grayed out little root that her eyes had spotted amidst the soil not far from her feet. She had tried very hard to keep her voice neutral as the words tumbled out of her lips, but that proved to be impossible to pull off as an uncharacteristic iciness seemed to coat every single syllable instead. "That’s the mission Beleg sent us out to complete, after all."

"What can I say, Madam Myriil's boutique carries a lot of things that I like~"

Fiora just stared intently after these words, taking a few seconds to process exactly what Luthien said, and then she laughed, hysterically at that. It took her a little bit to hold back the tears. It got so bad, she kept a hand over her lips to muffle it.

"What the fuck are you talking about Luth." It wasn't even a question what came out of her voice, just clear amusement and confusion. Who the hell is Madam Myrill and why she got an UI inventory? It didn't matter, what the ranger said just somehow cracked a smile on her, her laughter dying off to quiet snickers and a loud sigh to conclude it. "...Madam Myrill, heh. Who the fuck's dat." She mumbled outloud.

As an explanation is about to be given, a warcry suddently came from the bushes, and her instincts called for her to summon blades all around Luthien, aimed outwards to dither any would-be attackers. Goblins again?

Well, what came out wasn't exactly a goblin but the closest aproximation to one, who went straight after the dying everwhite, only to have her weapon shatter into a million pieces as if it were made out of glass. Awestruck, Fiora didn't even notice until her own hand tightened up, closing by reaction yet soon finding resistance as she squeezed Luth's, taking quick mental note of it before the arrival presented herself. Armorless and ashless as she is right now.

"Small world, eh?" She kept herself neutral, her voice didn't hold any resentment, not visibly at least, for a bomb would soon drop at any moment if -he- made his entrance. It didn't surprise her to find out Moonsong finally wearing something unlike the last time she seen her, which has been a few hours ago, give or take.

And when Yugam did show his face, Fiora's eyes tracked him like a drone, deadpanning at his question, as it didn't matter in the slightest, something he picked up to that quickly once disregarded. It shouldn't, but it made her blood boil regardless of how good changing subject was as an option, and the puns of earlier that Luth gave between whispers only proved her hatred all the more. She isn't feeling at her tip-top condition right now, and the ranger certainly needs some rest before this whole rodeo goes down int he first place. Yet when it came to masks, everyone here knew how to wear one, and she is no less experienced at theathrics.

Her lips parted to take the initiative, yet chill left the lips from the freshly-born ice queen at her side, Luthien going over the reason to their visit on the tree once Yugam's concerns rised, and now everything seemed to be put together. The tracks, the marks on the floor, the tree... They did not follow some teens, but the same steps these two did moments earlier, and this meeting just confirms it given Moonsong's aggression and the hunter's worries

'Don't let it get to you. Now's not the time.'

Her words echoed within Luthien's mind, in a fashion only an elf would know more than anyone else that hasn't interacted with one capable of mindsend.

'I can take what you are feeling off your back right now. Only if you want. Else just hold on tight, alright? I'm not going anywhere.'

What felt like a long silence to the other two, was a conversation with her partner right now, the knightess giving a glance back to the everwhite, to the roots that laid bare, exposed yet immobile. The job's done, and yet it amazed her that Yugam and Moonsong failed on their encounter in the first place. Not entirely, however, given what she herself experienced.

"So you came back to finish it? Kinda late I'll say. Luth and I bagged that thing. We were just about to head back."Her free hand went after a stiff shoulder, giving it a few quick strokes.

"Small world, Fiora. How are you?"

The elf didn't even look at her. No reply, not even the usual unnie callout. The coldness added more confusion to the brunette. Paranoia began to spread inside of her. Did Luthien find out about what happened? Both she and Fiora were in Lubeck, after all.

Cracks began to appear on Moonsong's stern mask. Of doubt, fear, guilt, and betrayal.

No, that can wait. I will take responsibility when the time comes, Dayeon.

A soothing voice inside of her calmed her thoughts, mending the mask back into its original state.

I will protect you, don't worry.

"So you came back to finish it? Kinda late I'll say. Luth and I bagged that thing. We were just about to head back." Fiora explained, before Moonsong added another fact. "That's the problem, Fiora. We were sure we killed that god earlier today, and retreated back to the town to investigate the flower it produced. But instead the tree was just..."

The brunette inspected the plant closer, noticing strange things about it. "... slowly losing its white color, and now it's getting bigger, somehow." The tree-god was not of this size when they left it. Something was certainly amiss.

Wait, did Luthien say that they just fought it?

"T̵̯̱̼̲̓h̷͔̟͕͓̎i̸̜̼͂̓̔ŝ̶̳̖̫̯͝ ̴̙̥̾͒͝ȉ̸̛̗̺̮͙s̷̳̾̀̇͠ ̴̤͐͠n̶̟͈͕̅̿̇o̶̼̓̓̀͜͠ţ̴͚͎̈́̇̽ ̵̹̟͍̹͛̒ť̷͓̞̮̠̇h̴̼͓̑ḛ̸̅ ̴̣̄e̸̢̞̦̅̓̓͝n̶͕̝̤̹̒̊̈ḏ̶̲͎́͆̈.̵̧̛̽͒̄"

Her eyes wandered up high, before opening wide upon noticing something sinister; the many white flowers blooming at an alarming rate. "The fights. We were just used as energy sources." The songstress' current power is nowhere near enough to obliterate the everwhite, so instead she called out to the hemomancer behind her. "Yugam! The flowers!" She growled, pointing out the danger that was slowly unleashing.

She wouldn't look at him. Her eyes seemed to affix themselves to anything that wasn't him, and she spoke as if she were simply reciting lines in a script, flat toned, emotionless. Yu felt a lump rise in his throat. It became hard to breathe. The muscles of his jaw tensed as his teeth began to grind nervously against each other. She didn't know. She couldn't possibly have. But Yu couldn't shake the feeling that she did. He couldn't shake the feeling of guilt either, even though he kept telling himself he had no reason to be feeling that way.

"So you came back to finish it? Kinda late I'll say. Luth and I bagged that thing. We were just about to head back," Fiora interjected, placing a comforting hand on Luthien's shoulder. The feeling of his chest caving in grew and grew, so Yu focused back on the tree, doing his best to push all the other feelings out of his mind, stuff them back into their messy boxes, and shoved into dusty storage closet in the back of his mind.

The tree had grown, Moonsong was right. The dimly glowing tree had nearly doubled in size since the last time Yu had seen the infernal thing. Not only that, but the long, spindly branches bore more of the characteristic grey-white buds on their ends, threatening to burst with their pollen at any moment.

Ṭ̷̨̼̯̀h̸̨̧͕̥̅̉͒ȉ̷̢̳̟̪̰͙ṡ̵̝̭̀ ̶̢̦̜̭̆į̴͚̣̙͕̊̊s̷̯̹͖͓̎͒͑̚ ̷̺̮͈̙̽̆̈̐̅͝n̶̺͖̅͐o̶͙̝̟̖̮̕ṯ̴̲̖͇͖͖̼͆̒ ̸͍̰̰́̔͂́͋̈́͠t̸̖̩͌́̉͜͜h̸̬̥̗̰̹̎̉̃̕͠͠͝e̵̫͆̈́̎̓͝ ̶̨̪̮̩̱̌̅͗̊̔͘e̵̼̹̮͈̰͛̇̈́͜͝ͅn̸̟̑̂̚d̴̢͓̠̙͓̈́

The word's echoed in their heads violently as the sound of fibers ripping themselves apart began to cascade down from the sky.

"...the flowers!"
"Mask up, don't breathe that shit in!"

Unfolding the Unknown
Roots from Beyond

The call from Beyond, the one who seemed to be just a strange nightmare... A hallucination from the recent past once again echoed, seeking for the attention of the deviants and petulant mortals that dared to try, face it, and have the naivety of thinking it was gone.

Never.

Its existence was timeless, lifeless, and deathless. Inexorable and relentlesss. It would never end, it would never cease seeking for its incomprehensible desires... If it could be called such.

Ṭ̷̨̼̯̀h̸̨̧͕̥̅̉͒ȉ̷̢̳̟̪̰͙ṡ̵̝̭̀ ̶̢̦̜̭̆į̴͚̣̙͕̊̊s̷̯̹͖͓̎͒͑̚ ̷̺̮͈̙̽̆̈̐̅͝n̶̺͖̅͐o̶͙̝̟̖̮̕ṯ̴̲̖͇͖͖̼͆̒ ̸͍̰̰́̔͂́͋̈́͠t̸̖̩͌́̉͜͜h̸̬̥̗̰̹̎̉̃̕͠͠͝e̵̫͆̈́̎̓͝ ̶̨̪̮̩̱̌̅͗̊̔͘e̵̼̹̮͈̰͛̇̈́͜͝ͅn̸̟̑̂̚d̴̢͓̠̙͓̈́

It would never be. The ground shook, cracking and opening widely, with endless roots holding onto its victims in a deadly grasp.

The same couldn't be said for the weak, and puny creatures. The roots yanked every single of them, dragging them into the swirling and unknown abyss that opened in the ground.

And if they dared to try and resist it again. Eventually, the root's grasp released them, dissipating and making the four adventurers plummet to what would seem to be their death, only for them to hit the floor painlessly, yet... Already being wrapped by the unholy touch of the roots.

EX Eldritch Tree

❰ 800 / 800 ❱
❰ 3600 / 3600 ❱

The [EX] Eldritch Tree is an Oversized monster.

Every Cycle, it makes two of these Actions at random:
  1. Abduction. It uses its roots to attempt to grapple and pull a random target (from any zone) to its zone unless taunted. The target must roll a DC 90 Fortitude or Reflex Save to avoid being grappled and pulled in, receiving 50 damage in the process.

  2. Weakening Whipping. It whips randomly five times with its roots, targetting those on its zone or on adjacent zones, dealing 15 damage on each whipping. Each attack causes a -10 debuff on rolls during the Cycle. If there are no targets in its zone or adjacent, it attempts an Abduction action instead.

  3. Eldritch Rage. It sweeps with its roots, striking everyone that are located in rows 1, 2, 3 and 4. dealing 40 damage and forcing everyone to make a DC 90 Fortitude Save to avoid being thrown Prone. If failed, the target will stay Immobilized until they spent 2 movements to stand up. (This Action cannot be taunted).

  4. Summons from Beyond. It summons two Roots in random zones (Roll 2d5, taking the first roll to decide the row, and the second to decide the column, they cannot occupy the same zone as the [EX] Eldritch Tree and there can't be two in the same zone). The Roots have 200 HP and 100 SP, and they deal 10 damage to anyone that starts the Cycle in its zone or in adjacent zones. If the SP is dropped to zero, they only deal damage to those that starts the Cycle in its zone.

  5. Coiling Grasp. It summons a root and attempts to grapple a random target. The target must make a DC 90 Reflex Save avoid being grappled and crushed, receiving 20 damage immediately. On the following Cycles, the target may attempt a DC 90 Fortitude Save to free themselves from the grasp as a bonus action. While grappled, the target receives increasing damage at the end of the Cycle (20 in the first cycle, 40 in the second cycle, 60 in the third cycle...)

  6. Call. It makes a foreign call in the depths of one random target. They must pass a DC 90 Will Save to avoid becoming Confused. While Confused, there is a 50% of chance of the target attacking the closest ally (deciding randomly on a tie) with a Standard Attack. (The result of the attack is divided by 5 for PvP balancing purposes). On the following Cycles, the target may attempt a DC 90 Fortitude Save to free themselves from the Confusion.

The [EX] Eldritch Tree also has Protected status against HP damage until its SP is dropped to zero. SP damage occurs as normal.

The DC to taunt the [EX] Eldritch Tree is 250 (Using Playtest Rules). The successful Taunter receives 20 damage at the end of the [EX] Eldritch Tree's Action.

Fiora’s grip tightened around her own hand, and it provided the blonde with some small comfort and a grounding point as she could feel her own emotions building up. The knightess words slipped into her mind with a natural grace that came to their kind, before the archer quietly shook her head.

{ N-No... it's fine. } The offer had tempted Lúthien more than she would like to admit, the older woman providing an easy way out that a part of the elf had desperately wanted to accept… and perhaps she might’ve had the ranger not consoled Fiora from her own internal demons but a few moments before Moonsong and Yugam had barged into the hidden clearing. { I'm fine, Fio… thank you. }

Instead the conversation was directed back to the everwhite as the taller woman addressed the other two, though their conversation was soon lost to the ranger as a new wave of emotions suddenly flooded her senses. Guilt. For a moment the blonde regretted that she’d refused Fiora’s offer mere moments before, the intensity of the feeling causing her chest to ache and cave even as Lúthien struggled to take breaths of her own. The grip on Fiora’s hand tightened in response, while the archer’s free hand raised to press against the leather fabric that served as protection across her chest.

Why. . . Why?

These weren’t coming from Moonsong. The feelings that had radiated from the brunette had long since been suppressed, the growing paranoia building up inside the woman suddenly disappearing as if it’d never been there in the first place. No, the brunette was not the source for this overwhelming emotion—and neither was the friendly elf who was still holding Lúthien’s hand—and so that only left one other. For the first time since their arrival the blonde finally allowed her gaze to stray in his direction, a grimace soon finding its way to her elven features as her keen eyes took note of his tensed jaw and stiffened shoulders.

Why are you feeling like this… what did you both do—?!

{ Ṭ̷̨̼̯̀h̸̨̧͕̥̅̉͒ȉ̷̢̳̟̪̰͙ṡ̵̝̭̀ ̶̢̦̜̭̆į̴͚̣̙͕̊̊s̷̯̹͖͓̎͒͑̚ ̷̺̮͈̙̽̆̈̐̅͝n̶̺͖̅͐o̶͙̝̟̖̮̕ṯ̴̲̖͇͖͖̼͆̒ ̸͍̰̰́̔͂́͋̈́͠t̸̖̩͌́̉͜͜h̸̬̥̗̰̹̎̉̃̕͠͠͝e̵̫͆̈́̎̓͝ ̶̨̪̮̩̱̌̅͗̊̔͘e̵̼̹̮͈̰͛̇̈́͜͝ͅn̸̟̑̂̚d̴̢͓̠̙͓̈́ }

Her own thoughts were sharply interrupted as an otherworldly voice boomed inside her mind, forcefully barging into her brain and causing the elf to wince in pain just before a root coiled itself tightly around one of Lúthien’s ankles. "Fio—!" Hers was the first name that tumbled out of the archer’s lips, wide eyes looking at the knightess for the briefest second before the blonde was yanked down into a new and equally unknown abyss that had split open underneath them.

She struggled to keep a firm hold on the hand that had been helping keep Lúthien grounded all this time, but her fingers eventually slipped as the archer felt herself lose the grip on Fiora as darkness filled her sight. A feeling of falling overcame the ranger for a time that she couldn’t measure, until her back finally smacked against a hardened surface once more. It elicited a gasp of surprise from the elf as she turned to her side to get a better view of the surroundings, hands pushing her upright before the feeling of roots trying to wrap around her limbs caused Lúthien to clamber back to her feet in record time.

"Why can’t you just stay down?!"

The frustration was evident in her words as the elf shouted, crimson eyes narrowed in the direction of the glowing eldritch entity as the elf summoned her bow from her UI storage. They seemed to glissen with moisture, all the pent up thoughts and overwhelming emotions finally beginning to boil over, before the elf reached for the arrows in her quiver. Two were pulled and nocked onto her bowstring, their spiraled tips quickly glowing a bright blue color even as frost began to form atop the metal surface.

"Just leave us alone!!!"

Both arrows whizzed through the air before anchoring themselves to the sturdy white trunk of the glowing everwhite, bursting on impact as a flurry of ice began to spread and coat the bark’s surface.

It concerned her regardless. It's not a bad feeling, it is exactly the kind of response her past self would give.

Fine. I'm fine. Yet where Luth's lips and mind lied, her hand did not. Each fleeting second a new reason for Luthien to squeeze harder and harder. She had completely zoned out, and it showed as Fiora blinked twice and finally paid attention to Moonsong and recalled back to what she asked. "In a shitty mood. I'm gonna need a new set of armor." The elf sighed off, her free hand flickering away a few stray locks away from her features as Moon begun to explain just exactly what was going on. Were it not for the ranger, Fiora would have approached just at the same time the brunette did, confusion visible all across her face. "Wait wait, it still lives? Are you saying-"

"Yugam the flowers!"
"Mask up, don't breathe that shit in!"

It had been too late for them to react, and certainly nothing the ranger had seen coming- Or anyone, really. It left little time to react as roots begun to emerge and Luthien had been the first to be taken down by the tree and dragged away.

"Fio—!"
"VAL!"
A feral scream surged out of her throat, instinct took over the knightess who plunged herself straight after the ranger, her right hand outstretched as the tip of their fingers barely graced eachother before darkness consumed it all, and her grasp went into nothingness. Back into this freefalling that would inevitably lead to the familiar inner sanctuary where the everwhite rests.

Unceremoniously arriving on her back, Fiora rolled a bit to the side, her vision turned into a blur for a mere few seconds that didn't stop the woman from getting back on her feet and look around for Luthien. Just now that they were both 'safe' did she pay notice to the tree itself. Bigger, most likely stronger, and far noisier than before.

"Luth, cover me!" Fiora's words echoed across the arena. No time to send the message to the other's mind, or perhaps still something she's not completely used to. Instead, Fiora set herself into a sprint. Sure, instead of running away, she was getting closer.

She couldn't beat the shit out of the tree without getting closer.

Pulled into the abyss below, the group suddenly found themselves in a familiar realm, with some differences; it's quiet, eerie, and slowly breaking down. The tree, bigger than ever, slowly presented its true form; its white bark slowly fell apart, replaced by the luster, ebony skin.

A god, reborn from the darkness.

"This is it." Moonsong sensed the aura from inside the massive tree. "Its true form."

Somehow, inside this dimension that was slowly being torn apart, Moonsong could feel the full extent of her magical power back with her. How?

Dayeon. I'm gonna burn some of my fuel for you, okay?

A sudden burst of energy shot out from her back, manifesting into what resembled her old magical armor. Everyone around her could feel the overwhelming rage aura burning wild, the extreme heat it produced turning parts of her hair bright yellow like the sun.

"Let's fucking go."

Moonsong shrieked, causing a bunch of gigantic blades to fall from the sky, cutting some of the appendages that were moving on the ground toward them. The darker vines and roots were considerably stronger and faster, compared to their ivory-white counterpart.

She looked straight into the tree, projecting all her rage and hatred into it, shooting a massive spear that the tree deflected with its dark branches. An eye grew, gazing back at her. Unmoved, Moonsong growled.

"You will pay."

The ground beneath their feet split open, a great cavernous void being revealed beneath them as long thorny tendrils exploded from the earth's gaping maw, wrapping around the Traveler's ankles, and dragging them into the dark abyss.

The world was colorless until the crash landed onto formless ground, drawing out a grunt of pain from Yu before he could scramble to his feet and lay his eyes on their nemesis' new form. Bark peeled from the wood like dead skin, dark black curls and spindly branches arched across the sky, silhouetted by the world above. The eldritch screeching in their minds held some semblance of comprehensible language, as the living vines writhed around them.

Luthien was the first to move, standing and rushing forward, bow in hand launching a volley of arrows a the deity. The seared across the sky, leaving behind a trail of bright blue light before they buried themselves in the wood, as the others leapt into action.

Newly armored, newly armed, the three brawlers rushed forward, the tough, evermoving terrain of the world making it difficult to get close enough to the eldritch being to actually strike it. Despite the obstacles between them and their enemy, the three moved as a single unit as Luthien fired arrow after arrow at the massive tree.

'Just a little bit further.' They were almost within striking distance. "Just d-!" Yu's war cry was cut short as the ground beneath them burst with a massive, thorny vine, whipping back and forth and striking the three fighters, halting their advance.

She watched the others begin to rush in the direction of the everwhite, her eyes lingering on the figure of Yugam for a few seconds longer before the sound of cracking bark had the elf turn her full attention back to the eldritch being. "Oh, what the fuuuck...?!" The material splintered and peeled off, and for a moment Lúthien had expected to see the weaker inner layers of the tree exposed just like before. Instead the ranger was in for a surprise when she spotted the dark inner layers, with the creepiest face like protuberance now prominent where a massive burl had been on the tree moments before.

Ḥ̷̹̦̙͋̄̈̌̋̈͑ȏ̶̧̭̭̜͕̺̔̂́̿̃͝w̷̹͓͉͙̽̈̔̂̂͝ ̸͇̘̰͇͑i̶̧̢̱͍̖͖̙̐̾̑͌͒͘ņ̶̪̤̲͎̈́s̸̨̻̜̗̩̃͒̓̋͘̕o̶̞̬̗̐̌̅̇l̷̢͓̹̀̏e̷̼͙̹̊̎n̸̨̫̝̳̟̱̓t̴͈̭̮̊̊̑̅͝

The ‘voice’ of this horrific abomination echoed inside their minds once more, the unwanted intrusion jarring to the elf as a hand rose to rub her right temple. "Stop doing that… I don’t want you inside my head!" Words slipped past gritted teeth as the archer glared in the direction of the eldritch elder being, her hands reaching for two additional arrows in her quiver before nocking them onto her bow once more.

It was then the ground shook as two thorny vines were summoned through the terrain, one of them barging right into the space that Fiora, Moonsong and Yugam had been occupying as they attempted to get closer to the everwhite. It began to flail wildly, the long limb smacking indiscriminately into whatever was in its path, and the blonde had to shift her position to avoid the limb smacking her bow and arrows right out of her grasp. Instead the thorny limb dragged against the exposed flesh on her arm, causing the elf to hiss in pain before she narrowed her eyes in the direction of the abomination.

Once again she allowed her magic to coalesce onto the metal tips of both arrows, causing the temperature around the archer to drop. A slow and steady inhale was taken by the elf as she took aim, focusing on what could pass off as a face for the eldritch tree, before both arrows were allowed to fly as the archer’s exhale condensed into the air. Their flight path was marked by a trail of frost before both arrows found purchase on the rough surface of the tree, not quite as close to the face as Lúthien had hoped, before their heads exploded in a flurry of snow as ice began to creep along the bark on this new section.

As a team they stood. While leaving Luthien behind did not sound like a nice idea given their last encounter, they couldn't wait for it to come and slap them all on the face.

Let alone the tree had evolved. Changed. No longer a beautiful white bark but an insidious black that revealed it's true, rotten nature behind a husk of a shell. It really suited it, all things considered.

"Just d-!"

Ḥ̷̹̦̙͋̄̈̌̋̈͑ȏ̶̧̭̭̜͕̺̔̂́̿̃͝w̷̹͓͉͙̽̈̔̂̂͝ ̸͇̘̰͇͑i̶̧̢̱͍̖͖̙̐̾̑͌͒͘ņ̶̪̤̲͎̈́s̸̨̻̜̗̩̃͒̓̋͘̕o̶̞̬̗̐̌̅̇l̷̢͓̹̀̏e̷̼͙̹̊̎n̸̨̫̝̳̟̱̓t̴͈̭̮̊̊̑̅͝

Yugam's battle cry fell short, and that snapped her out of the hyperfocus she's been putting on skipping past everything and anything in the same way Moonsong and the Hunter did. Their advances were halted by a flailing limb out of the everwhite's dreamscape. The ranger managed to get out of the way, yet not for long, and the frontline had less luck than that, with Fiora a straight hit that didn't even let her rise any form of defenses to deal with it. But that's the thing. Ask and you shall receive.

"Alright. You got my attention."In this case, that root is asking for some ass-kicking. And she's very much a people's pleaser.

Shield and spear soon beckoned to her call, steel formed entirely out of magic as these phantoms worked as her means of offense, and the woman lunged forth to thrust it through the base of the root, before another spear would pierce through it. And another. And another, they all begun to surround their aggressor to skewer it over and over again.

"Fuck- Yugam!" She stretched out her shield-arm towards him, the lances shot at the massive root infront of them just switching directions to aim for the ones readying themselves to snare both Moonsong and Yugam alike.

Moonsong was too busy channeling her power into a single weapon as a massive root shot toward them, threatening to grab and crush the three of them. Quickly leaping up high, she commanded the unfinished massive blade to swing down towards the root, only to bounce off its thick black outer. The root continued to move towards Yugam.

"Yu! Watch out!"

The songstress shrieked, causing a bunch of gigantic blades to fall from the sky, cutting some of the appendages that were moving on the ground toward them, and causing the tree to roar in pain. The darker vines and roots were considerably stronger and faster, compared to their ivory-white counterpart. In response, it spawned living roots, following the adventurers wherever they go.

The amount of wrath Moonsong emitted with her aura increased considerably, causing the whole realm to be filled with the smell of rage. That ought to be enough for the tree to finally focus on her and take her seriously.

You may start in any spot from row 5

[EX] Eldritch Tree is located on (3,2) C2 tile. It may be attacked from any adjacent zone in which it is located. Extension allows it to be attacked from two zones away.

Moving in and out of the [EX] Eldritch Tree and its adjacent tiles cost the 2 movement.

When starting the cycle in an adjacent zone to the [EX] Eldritch Tree, you must pass a DC 70 Reflex Save to avoid becoming immobile for the Cycle, and if you end your cycle in it, you receive 15 damage (Unaffected by modifiers).

When starting a cycle in the [EX] Eldritch Tree zone, you must pass a DC 90 Will Save to avoid becoming immobile and unable to act for the Cycle, and if you end your cycle in it, you receive 40 damage (Unaffected by modifiers).

It sweeps with its roots, striking everyone that are located in rows 1, 2, 3 and 4, dealing 40 damage and forcing everyone to make a DC 90 Fortitude Save to avoid being thrown Prone.

What could mere mortals do when faced with the might of being older than time itself? Beg and plead. Fight and die. Their fates were all but sealed. This the Everwhite knew as it's root wrapped around Yu's neck and began to pull him towards it. Dragged backwards along the ground, the man's hands scrambled to find purchase on anything that it could, bandage and flesh torn away by the sharp spines. The vice like hold the roots had on his throat squeezed the air from his throat, prevented any more from providing him oxygen. In the distance, his eyes fell upon Luthien, bright blue arrows of frost sailing through the air at her bidding. Even from here, the Hunter could see the blood streaming down her arm from the numerous gashes along her arm.

She reached for the colorful mesh bath sponge, vigorously scrubbing the material against a bar of soap that was three times the size of her tiny hands, before a few short giggles escaped as she watched it froth up. Large eyes watched the lather curiously, before they followed a small bubble drifting in the air until it popped upon reaching the rushing stream of water from the shower head. Her attention turned then to her small hand, closing and opening it a few times as she watched the soap cling onto her skin. It finally formed a glistening barrier around the circled shape her thumb and index finger formed together, not too different from the one she'd seen on bubble wands, before daring to blow through it—surprise coloring her eyes as a bubble began to take form before popping.

Additional attempts finally lead to the successful creation of one large bubble that began to sink lazily through the air, but the feeling of accomplishment felt was quickly erased when the sound of a slamming door and stomping footsteps reached her ears. Small hands hastily rushed to finish the rest of her bath then, letting the water run over her tiny frame as she struggled to rinse the sponge between her fingers. Knuckles rapped loudly against the door to the bathroom, startling the girl and causing her to drop the scrub, before panicked eyes turned towards it as the door was slammed open by a figure that entered the space.

"M-Mami—?!"

Words quickly died in her throat when the woman crossed the distance between them in a few steps, thin and bony fingers latching onto her neck firmly as the loud cries and wails of her mother pierced her young ears. She couldn't make out the words, muffled now by the running water that poured over her head, even as her tiny hands desperately clawed at the wrists and fingers of the brunette that was meant to care for her in this world. Something had angered her yet again, though what it could've been was often a mystery for the young child, and a pitiful whine escaped her lips as she struggled to breath.

"Yugam!"

Fiora's lance careened past Yu's face as his mind returned to reality, severing the vine around his throat. The Hunter yanked the fleshy remains from around his neck and tossed them to the ground, coughing violently as he struggled to get to his feet.

'Are you okay!?'
'I'm fine...'
'Worry about her later, it won't matter if you all die here!'
'I got it.'

Yu's eyes flicked up at the now blackrotted tree in annoyance and frustration as it screeched loudly in their heads again. From pain? From annoyance? What did it matter, all Yu cared for was the ashes he'd leave behind after he finished burning the overgrown weed to the ground.

Ç̵̰͓̳̱͔͉̈́̌́ḙ̵̢̡̝͉̕̕ā̸̭͕̩̖͇̰̈́̄͜ṣ̸̢̡̠̩͕͇̍̓̎ë̸̬̙̍ ̷̡̨̠̼̳̣̈́̽̿̓̃y̷̙͗̓̐̆ȏ̶̥̬̌u̷̗̓ȓ̵̝̦͎̀̓̽̊̑̂͜ ̶̙̦͓̈́̀́̑̌͜͜͜͝s̸̼͓̠͛̇̈́̀͠t̴̢͕̫̟͖͕̳́r̶̦͖͌̑̐ͅu̵̠̗̬̳̓̌̓̈́̄͂̍ḡ̴̨̢̜̠̗̣͎̄̔̀́g̶͖̍̇͂͗ĺ̷̛̲̲̋͂̈̋̓ḯ̸͔͍͔͉͔̮̋̀́́̕n̴̛͇̣͍̠̗̭̥͗͊͌͂̏̊ḡ̸̨̭͇̘̖̜̖̓̒

Yu raised Unmei high into air. A malevolent red glow began to flicker around her blade for just a moment before countless duplicates burst forth, circling the air around Yu, Fiora and Moonsong. They sailed high into the air before diving towards the tree like a swarm of angry bees, impaling every piece of wood they could touch.

Ç̵̧̬̤͆͗̑e̶̢̪̲̥̬͔̿͂́a̸̢̯͙̳̗̜͒̓̌͆̕̚š̴̨̤̫͌̃̍̊̚̕e̶̢̡̻̗̭͂͑̂̉̇̚̚ ̵͕̔͘y̵͍̬̗̳̺͔͆͘̕ȏ̸̮̩̫̤̩̎͐̑͑ͅu̷̢̻͕̜̽͐̓̀̄r̵̝̘̖̹͔̅͆͝͝ͅ ̴̧̞̝͔́̓̌̔̚͘s̷̼̮͕̬͍̔̂͠t̴̪̋̽ŗ̵̩̮̩̺͕͐͒̀͠ü̷͈̳̉̌̑͂͘ġ̷̺͇͑̍͊̕g̷͙͇̲͊l̶͉̦̭̚ḭ̵̧͌̀̃̇͘͝n̶̢͚̉̌g̸̖͈͚̯̓̔

A massive vine burst from the tree's trunk, rising into the air before sweeping the ground. A loud boom was followed by the sound of wood scraping against the earth as the vine dragged itself across the ground, sweeping away the mortals.

The vine rose into the air once more, only to fall back to the ground, again and again like a hammer, the earth it's anvil as black dust flew high into the air. The onslaught ended only when the vine coiled back. Pausing for a moment as if deciding what to do next, before shooting forward, straight towards Moonsong.

"Fuck—Yugam!"
"Yu! Watch out!"

The cries of both women had the blonde quickly shifting her attention back to the raven-haired man, just in time to see a blackened root wrap tightly around the man’s throat as it began to drag him towards the everwhite.

"Yu!?!"

For a few precious moments the blonde had been able to shove aside every other insecure thought and heart wrenching emotion that currently plagued her, a hand reaching for the arrows in her quiver with the intent to save the hunter. Fiora’s lance was faster however, the distance separating the white-haired elf from the man shorter compared to Lúthien, and a sigh of utter relief escaped the ranger when she watched the man tear the now unmoving roots away from his neck.

Ç̵̰͓̳̱͔͉̈́̌́ḙ̵̢̡̝͉̕̕ā̸̭͕̩̖͇̰̈́̄͜ṣ̸̢̡̠̩͕͇̍̓̎ë̸̬̙̍ ̷̡̨̠̼̳̣̈́̽̿̓̃y̷̙͗̓̐̆ȏ̶̥̬̌u̷̗̓ȓ̵̝̦͎̀̓̽̊̑̂͜ ̶̙̦͓̈́̀́̑̌͜͜͜͝s̸̼͓̠͛̇̈́̀͠t̴̢͕̫̟͖͕̳́r̶̦͖͌̑̐ͅu̵̠̗̬̳̓̌̓̈́̄͂̍ḡ̴̨̢̜̠̗̣͎̄̔̀́g̶͖̍̇͂͗ĺ̷̛̲̲̋͂̈̋̓ḯ̸͔͍͔͉͔̮̋̀́́̕n̴̛͇̣͍̠̗̭̥͗͊͌͂̏̊ḡ̸̨̭͇̘̖̜̖̓̒

Once again the voice reverberated throughout her mind, causing a sharp pain to cross the archer’s skull as a hand rose to her right temple once more. It was enough to momentarily distract the ranger as she had looked away, grimacing and wincing from the discomfort she currently felt, before a loud splintering sound alerted Lúthien of new changes. A massive root burst through the solid ground on which they all currently stood on, the thick appendage quickly lashing out and sweeping through the areas their little party had spread onto with recognizable ire.

It caught the elf on her side before she had time to brace herself, a pained cry escaping her lips as the impact sent the lithe archer tumbling through the root infested floor before finally coming to a standstill. The clattering sound of her bow barely registered inside her ears as the weapon finally came to rest not too far away from Luthien. Her body ached all over, the side where the vine had just smacked her throbbing and pounding—even the smallest of movements was enough for a jolt of pain to suddenly shoot up and assault her nerves.

Her eyes barely caught the swinging motion of another root, the ranger’s vision blurred by involuntary tears that had sprung forth in response to her pain and suffering, before the archer rolled onto her side and curled into herself in a vain attempt to protect her weaker areas. A sharp stinging sensation assaulted her back then as the whip-like root smacked right into the middle of it, disrupting the comforting healing tune Lúthien tried to hum to herself as another pained cry escaped her lips, before it retreated back to its source of origin once more.

A feeling of anger suddenly bubbled in her chest, the source unknown to the elf but welcomed regardless when it helped numb some of the pain as it spurred Lúthien back to her feet. Crimson eyes hastily scanned the area around her until they landed upon her bow, scrambling towards the weapon before her left hand grasped the object securely once more. The right hand reached for the arrows in her quiver without sparing the action a second thought, judgment clouded by the fury that seemed to momentarily overtake her senses, and the arcing lighting that left her fingertips to bounce and disappear into various of her arrows went unnoticed as the girl nocked the first one.

"I told you to stay out of my mind!!!"

The static along her body increased then just as Lúthien pulled it back, the metal tip glowing an ominous blueish purple as it seemed to crackle with electricity, before the arrow was allowed to fly freely and embed itself into the now darkened back of the abomination. It was soon joined by another, and then a third, a fourth and a fifth… arrow after arrow began to rain down into the side of the everwhite as the sound of booming thunder finally echoed from where the ranger stood. There was a sudden burst of lightning as the last arrow struck the tree, setting off a chained reaction that caused massive arcs of electricity to dance and run along the surface of the ancient horror—the scent of burnt wood wafting through the air for anyone close enough to notice once the lighting finally subsided.
