Walking just behind the carriage, rifle slung over his shoulder, Yu kept glancing over at the caravan's cargo. Massive blocks of pure black stone, with deep lettering etched into them in an unknown language, hardly legible now. The stones had been weathered by the long passage of time, their once carefully hewn face, sharp edged, pockmarked and rough, the original shape merely a rough idea now.

What this once massive monolith was once user for, Yugam had no idea. Perhaps a land marker? Or maybe it was a monument to some long-forgotten hero or god. A religious site might've grown around it. Ultimately, Yu didn't know, and likely never would. It wasn't like there were newspapers for Yu to read about the discovery's findings later. A bit of a shame if you asked him.

For now though, the man had greater concerns. Namely, actually making sure that the heavy blocks of stone actually made it to their destination. Highway men, rogue mages who might think that the blocks of stone held some magical secret, or even simply rival archaeologists, any of them and might try to rob the caravan. Or at least that's what the researcher who had hired the Hunter had said.

Yugam glanced over the icy-blue haired woman who was working alongside him. A woman he vaguely knew. Between the strange meeting in Eastern Brisshal and the small training challenge they'd partaken in, they knew of each other, but hadn't had the opportunity to speak at length. "That's an interesting sword you got," the man commented as he scanned the tree line for any movement. "You were pretty impressive at Trinity."

"Hmm?"

Magdalyn turned to face Yugam, blinking owlishly as her mind raced to catch up. She'd allowed her thoughts to wander, considering the enormous black stones, and all their possible uses. It took a few seconds to snap back to reality, a fact that probably reflected poorly on her. What kind of sell-sword got so lost wool-gathering that they missed a comment from a companion? It could have just as easily been an attack from an enemy. I need to pay more attention, came her silent scolding. Of course, she had no way of knowing that Yugam had been having similar thoughts about their precious cargo.

When his words finally sunk in, heat came into Mags' pale cheeks. "Heh, yeah," she answered dumbly, not entirely sure if his comment was sarcasm or not. She slid the empty handle from the loop on her belt, holding it out so they could both see. No blade protruded from the hilt, and even that was in rough shape; the metal was scuffed and scraped, and small holes revealed where decorative gems might have once gleamed. "It isn't much to look at."

"I resent that", the sword's spirit growled.

She ignored him.

"But it's pretty neat. I like how it allows me to use my hydromancy and pyromancy to make different types of blades. I even turned it into a whip once."

"To kill a giant rabbit. The whole thing was incredibly embarrassing."

Mags hooked the hilt back onto her belt, as if that might silence her ever-present and ever-pessimistic brain-buddy. "You did a great job at Trinity, too," she told him, offering a wide smile. "It was neat to fight alongside some new people. I didn't expect it to go so well, if I'm being honest, since we hardly knew each other. But it was like everyone knew what their job was. Definitely a good group of gamers."

Yu examined the bladeless weapon that Magdalyn produced, it's ornate hilt marred by time, battle, and who knew what else. Missing it's various adornments, the damaged weapon had lost much of it's luster, but in it's place gained a kind of unique grace and beauty that one could only gain through time and experience.

"A whip-sword, huh," the man commented, "that's pretty cool." Personally, Yugam had never managed to find any success in whips. They were too unpredictable for his own tastes, but that made it all the more impressive when others took that same trait and turned it into an advantage for themselves. The ingenuity of others never ceased to amaze.

"It's always nice to fight with people you work well with," the Hunter agreed as the caravan moved along, his eyes taking another scan of the treeline. "I thought we all clicked rather nicely. Everyone knew what they had to do. Rare." Especially given how most multiplayer games went. There were always one or two people who dragged the team down, either due to incompetence or spite. "How long you been playing TS by the way? I remember meeting you in Eastern Brisshal when I was still pretty new. You were pretty impressive then as well."
