Nymoria's otherwise outwardly excited posture took on a subdued reaction as the girl admonished her for her noisy behaviour. She'd gotten excited, that much was true - but who could blame her? This was her first real quest in the game, and she wanted to make the most of it.

Quiet...right...wouldn't want to alert whatever is in here to our presence. Surprise is a key tactic, right?

She whispered the words, slowing her steps as she tried to silence her very existence. Whatever she had thought of the other girl before, she was beginning to wonder why they even played. They clearly weren't here for the thrill of the fight - which, in a fantasy game was kind of the point, right?

Maybe they find a thrill in just looking around at stuff? Which, I mean...kinda weird, but I guess some people like that? And who am I to judge what other people find a thrill in? I mean, look at me. I used to play games- She quieted the voice in her mind as it was about to remind her of those times. She'd prefer not to remember them at all, and yet here she was, stuck in a possibly dangerous situation, and considering past events.

Hey...did you hear that? Sounded like...a voice?

Her ears twitched atop her head - a sensation she was still getting used to - as she tried to pinpoint the sound. She could've sworn it was coming from up ahead, as if echoing off the walls. Maybe it was still a little ways into the cave itself? How deep is this thing anyways...? She gripped her dagger tighter, wondering if she'd get the chance to use it.

Come on careful one...I think we've almost found it.

A few more steps, and the cave took a sharp turn. Nymoria stopped, before peering around the corner. Seated in the centre of the dead-end was a child - likely no more than ten years of age, with a small blue globe floating in the air above them. The piece gave off just enough light to bathe the form of the child, barely visible even as Nymoria stared at it.

Huh...it's just a kid...

Yua was satisfied when the beastfolk quieted herself quickly, though she still spoke too much for Yua's preference. Maybe when they weren't in a deep dark cavern full of potentially very deadly monsters they could speak more. Yua wouldn't mind so much then.

But for now, silence was required. The girl gave no more than a nod in response to Nymoria's question as they padded along as quietly as they could. But in such absolute silence, even the sounds of their shoes on the ground seemed as loud as claps of thunder.

Despite that, the beastfolk's ears twitched, swiveling in some unknown direction. Yua gave the woman a look that said she didn't hear it. The raccoon-kin's senses were sharper than her, naturally. Yua let Nymoria lead the way for them, staying no more than a couple paces behind her as they continued down the long dark hall of stone. They came upon a faint blue glow, easier to see in the near total darkness that enveloped then. The samurai grasped her weapon with both hands as they rounded the corner until her sights fell upon...

"Huh...it's just a kid..."

With a strange orb floating in the air above them. "This must the little one who was hiding in the cabin," Yua surmised, though her gaze was fixed on the luminescent orb above their heads. "What's that though?"

Beats me...magical flashlight?

Nymoria gave a shrug as she shifted her gaze back to the floating orb of light, trying to figure out exactly what it was. A sudden thought occurred to her, and she fumbled with the palm menu for a few seconds, before managing to activate the investigation mode.

Orb.
Luminescent

Orb...brilliant. Well, the investigation feature is useless. Glowing orb thingy is the best it can tell me.

She kept her voice to a low whisper, eyeing the child as she did so. Whyever it was here, it gave no indication that it was aware of their presence - or at least didn't seem to care. A fact that Nymoria was more than happy to maintain, at least for the moment. She had no idea what that orb was, nor how it impacted...well, anything here.

She cast a glance over at the other girl, wondering what she would do in this situation. Probably go investigate some wall for hidden text or something... She nearly giggled at that, catching herself at the last second. Sighing, in order to hide the giggle itself, she stepped into the open area, sheathing her dagger on her thigh as she stepped forward towards the child.

Heeyyy there...don't be afraid, we just want to talk...whatcha doing in a cave like this here? Not exactly the nicest, or cosiest place, is it?

The thing shifted, a soft, whispering voice that sounded like something from a horror movie reaching Nymoria's ears. It slowly turned to face them, the appearance a ghastly white with dark eyes and hair, matching the voice in a way that made Nymoria shiver.

Waiting...just waiting...

Ah fu-uh...well, you're a...unique little...thing, aren't you? Uhm...what are you waiting for...? And please don't say us...please...

Yua huffed in disappointment when Nymoria reported that the investigation mode had no further information to share about the strange floating orb they'd found alongside the girl. Perhaps it was magical in nature, or some kind of magitech construct. Yua hadn't seen an magitech devices yet, but the floating orb of light seemed a likely candidate at least.

Yua turned back towards the direction they'd come from, confirming that nothing was lurking in the shadows as Nymoria gingerly approached the girl. Though she was quick to turn back around and look at the girl when she heard the beastfolk stutter.

She would've appeared like an average, healthy child were it not for the pale skin and deeply sunken eyes. Her brows cast a dark shadow over her eyes, almost unseen thanks to the harsh light coming from the orb over head. Her skin had a deathly pallor to it, almost as if she were dead. It took a mental effort on Yua's part for the girl to not gasp in surprise the same way Nymoria had. Yua took a moment to gather herself once more before sheathing her weapon and kneeling down to the girl's level. "My name's Yua. What's yours?" the girl asked with a soft smile on her face, trying her best to be a comforting presence for the ghostly girl.

The girl seemed to shift her head at an unnatural angle, as if trying to peer around Nymoria without actually leaning, causing her neck to bend in an odd way. Uncomfortable with the entire thing, Nymoria shifted to the left a bit, to give the girl a better view - and hoping that it would alleviate the need for her to do that. Caves...why is it always caves? Fuck caves. Fuck all the caves. All of them.

Name...my name is...my name is Yūrei...You may call me Yūrei. I enjoy our convocating here.

Nymoria's bushy tail swished as she considered simply turning around and running away. Everything about this child was setting off her internal alarms, and she wasn't entirely sure why. The only thing that kept her here was the other player - Yua, apparently - who seemed relatively relaxed and calm.

My name's Nymoria! It's...uh...interesting to meet you! Did you want to tell us what you're doing in the cave here? You mentioned waiting, are you waiting for someone, or something particular?

The girl's eyes turned towards Nymoria, causing a shiver to run down her back, and her hand to reach for the dagger on her thigh. She kept herself from drawing it, comforted by the mere touch of the hilt against her hand.

Yūrei is waiting for the monster to come back. It should be here in moments.

The little girl pointed at the glowing light, without turning to look at it, her face as expressionless as it had been the entire conversation. Of course the creepy child is waiting for the monster to come through the floaty light thing...that's totally normal. Totally makes sense. We should definitely wait around for it to show up.

Yurei.

Yua recognized the word, or rather name, immediately. Was it a cryptic sign? Or was it genuinely her name. Yua did not know, but the word 'monster' did not make her feel any more comfortable.

Yua looked up at the glowing orb as Yurei pointed at it. A beacon of some sort perhaps? "Why are you waiting for the monster to come back, Yurei?" Yua asked as she looked behind them again and waited for the girl to answer. Was that something flitting by in the dark? The girl's hand rested on the mouth of her sword's scabbard. They couldn't stay for very long, but Yua had the feeling the girl wouldn't come with them if they didn't convince her, but to do that, they needed to know more. Even if she didn't come then, they wouldn't walk away with nothing. Yurei was their only lead right now.

The girl turned back to the light, staring at it with an intense focus. Nymoria turned to glance at Yua, trying to figure out what to do next - the girl seemed uninterested in discussing anything further, which left them with only two options as far as Nymoria could see; stick around and find out, or escape while they still could.

She slowly, carefully and as quietly as she possible could drew her daggers, speaking in a whispered voice while still maintaining her focus on the creepy girl sitting on the floor.

Alright well, she seems to be done with us...and I'll be honest, if whatever comes through that...light thing, is anything less welcoming than she is...I don't know if I want to be here...what are you-

She didn't get to finish her question before the light began to pulse. She only managed to take three steps backwards, before the thing stepped from beneath the pulsing light, appearing from what appeared to be a shimmering field. The thing came out growling, shaking itself as if trying to toss water from its fur. Nymoria glanced again at Yua, realising suddenly that their escape had just become less likely.

Well, looks like we may get that fight after all...back me up?

She gave a soft sigh as she waited for Yua's response, hoping that the girl didn't just turn and run away.

Yurei looked up into the light, as if she could no longer see or hear either Yua or Nymoria. The samurai looked back at the beastfolk with the same concerned look that she wore, unsure of what else they could do. Yua didn't like the idea of just leaving the girl behind, but what else was left for them to do? She wasn't sure she wanted to drag the girl out either.

Nymoria didn't seem to have the same reservations as Yua though, already prepared to leave the girl here in the depths of the cavern. The girl was about to protest when Nymoria's own words fell short, and it wasn't difficult to figure out why.

The light above their head began to pulse, thrumming as some unknown being began to step out the flickering light as if it were stepping through a mirror. Yua rose from to her feet, taking slow steps backwards, he hands on her weapon as she stared up in awe at the earthen canine.

"Well, looks like we may get that fight after all...back me up?"
"Hai,"
the samurai replied with a nod as she drew her weapon.

She moved in first, three short steps to close bring the wolf into striking range. Yua didn't care if she actually struck the monster, wounded it, anything at all. All that mattered first drawing it's attention away from Yurei and Nymoria.

"Ha!"

Yua let out a short battle cry as she swung downwards at her enemy. A loud clang echoed through the cave as metal struck stone, glancing away and sending vibrations shuddering up Yua's arms so violently it actually hurt. That hadn't worked. Not in the slightest.

Yua moved into action almost immediately, trying to pull the thing's attention away from the little girl still seated in the middle of the room. Her blade flashed, and for a moment Nymoria felt a rush of excitement - only to notice that it had left no impact, no marking, on the creature in front of them.

Alright...let's see what this thing can do...

She shifted her weight, leaning off to her right as she pushed around the left side of the creature, trying to find a weakspot that she could possibly leverage, a point that she could dig her daggers into, anything that would allow her to overcome the crystalline appearance before them. A glint caught her eye, and Nymoria changed her direction, forcing herself to slide underneath the creature as she tried to drive her blade up into the chest of it.

There was no connection, no driving point, no blood. Instead, she felt as the paw of the creature casually tossed her to the other side of the cave, leaving her rolling across the floor and landing in a pile of disappointment. Shock, as much as pain, kept her laying for seconds longer than it should have, and by the time she had stood up once more, the creature had fully transitioned into the room, its eyes looking over the three other forms, before a soft growl began in its throat.

The wolf's sweeping motion hadn't just caught Nymoria in it's range but Yua too. The girl had her guard up just in time to avoid being flung across the room and slammed into a wall, instead sliding backwards as her haori billowed about her slender frame.

Yua spared a glance over at Nymoria as she struggled to her feet, apparently not too badly wounded. No time for relief though, the enemy was still staring her down with bared teeth and all.

"Hmph," Yu huffed in annoyance as she stamped a foot. The wolf was just another obstacle she reminded herself, and that meant she needed to carve a path. If it was through the wolf, so be it. The girl charged forward as the wolf raised another paw to swipe at Yua. The massive blow came, and when it went, the samurai was no where to be seen.

From above the wolf, Yua could see her target, the nape of the wolf's neck, where two stone plates met. Her arc through the air was near perfect, plummeting down with her sword ready to plunge it into the wolf's neck.

The girl landed on the wolf's back and buried her blade between the two pieces of rock. A strange of pain howl shook the cavern as the moonstone wolf tried to shake Yua off.

Yua closed in with the creature, cracking through the crystalline shell that made up its outer layer, and leaving the thing howling in response - a cue to the fact that it wasn't invulnerable. Nymoria didn't waste time, she knew that the safest thing for both of them was to end this as quickly as possible.

Yua you better stay alive, because this thing may be clearing me out momentarily...come on you giant ugly beast, let's dance.

She rushed forward, daggers in hand as she tried to draw the things attention away from the other girls, hoping to distract it long enough for Yua to be able to get to safety, or strike it again. Her steps brought her in front of the thing, staring it face to face as she drove both daggers upwards towards its throat, the point of the Ice Claw driving into something less solid, piercing what must be the underflesh of the thing.

Another howl of pain and Nymoria felt herself lifted, then slammed into the nearby wall, left to crumple slightly as her head began to spin.

Wow...that...that hurt...I think...I think I broke something...holy fuck...

The wolf shook itself back and forth violently, trying to dislodge Yua from her perch. The girl held on desperately as she was thrashed back and forth, the world becoming a blur of black, grey, brown and blue. Though Yua had never drank before, she guessed that even being heavily drunk wasn't as bad at this.

Eventually, the earthen wolf succeeded in removing Yua from it's stone-y pelt, the katana finally slipping free and sending Yua slamming into one of the cave walls. Her head rang violently as she struggled to her feet, but through the ringing in her ears, she could still make out Nymoria's words. "Yua you better stay alive, because this thing may be clearing me out momentarily..."
"Kuso,"
Yua cursed. "If you think you are in danger, it is better for us to retreat!" the samurai said, as she reached into her kimono and pulled out a small rectangular piece of paper with some black and red writing on it.

The piece of papers began to glow a bright blue before Yua slung the piece of paper at Nymoria. It flew through the air like a dagger, instead of fluttering to the ground like a leaf. As it reached the beastfolk it began to circle around her, disintegrating as if into glowing blue ash as Nymoria's wounds began to mend themselves. Though Yua was unable to heal all of the beastfolk's wounds, those that she was able to disappeared as if they had never occurred.

She caught the flash of movement out of the edge of her vision, shifting in time just to see Yua toss something like a dagger towards her. She felt herself tense up, shouting even as she tried to get away from whatever the hell it was, wondering why the other woman had turned on her suddenly.

Yua what the he-

The words stopped immediately as the blue glowed washed over her, her wounds closing over in response to the magic. Wow...healing magic...that's amazing... She was broken from her thoughts as the wolf howled again, its head lowered as it prepared itself to charge towards the weakened and unsteady Yua.

The hell you do, you stone-fanged piece of shit! She's my friend, don't you lay a claw on her!

She pushed herself into movement, daggers in hand and feet slamming into the stone beneath her as she shoved herself between Yua and the wolf, slamming both daggers into its throat and causing it to rear back in pain and alarm.

That's right asshole, I'm still here!

Nymoria's shock quickly subsided into relief as Yua's magic began to take effect, the woman's body suddenly feeling reenergized as time itself wound itself backwards, reverting her body into a state from moments prior. There was no warmth, no comfort to accompany this sensation of renewal. If anything it felt cold and unrelenting, as such was the nature of time itself. But it served it's purpose.

The beastfolk leapt towards the stone-carved wolf, distracting it long enough for the samurai to pull out more of the runic papers. Between two fingers, the girl raised them in front of her face before the markings began to glow. The paper's fanned themselves out, three in total before they too glowed just the same as the markings. Yua threw them again, two swirling around Nymoria as the first had, while the other arced high into the air, looping back towards Yua to explode over her head, raining more glowing ash over her as she too began to feel the cool sensation of time turning back ever so slightly.

Another of the papers flew towards Nymoria, closing over a few of the smaller wounds that had begun to peel back, relieving some of the pain she was feeling. Not enough...but it will have to do.

Not hesitating, she slid forwards, ducking underneath the first paw of the larger beast, bringing her Blood Claw up into the under joint of the thing's strike, before jumping backwards. It was minor, but she saw the blood drip from the cut she'd created, a positive sign all things concerned.

Ha! Not so tough now are you, you damned son of a-

Boom. She felt the impact, both the initial, and the final, as she was tossed into the far wall, the paw picking her up and tossing her like she was nothing more than a toy. Ohkay holy fuck that hurt...holy...shit...I think something's broken... The whine that escaped her spoke to the damage that had been done, blood dripping out the side of her mouth as she struggled to stand back up, everything burning in a way that felt like she was on fire.

Need...to protect...need to...help...fuck you...stand...up...you coward...

Blistering Corruption. The very essence of the Moonstone Wolf has become corrupted during its transportation. Roll a DC 35 Fortitude save - on a failure, take an extra 4 retal damage, and disadvantage on your next save.
Weakened Condition. As the Moonstone wolf begins to falter and break apart, any attacks made against it when having passed the Fortitude save are done so with advantage.

Yua was battered, broken. Near dead. As much as Yua would have liked to assist her comrade, and finish the fight, she had to remind herself that she would be no good to Nymoria dead. First thing was first, she had to make sure she had enough health to survive the rest of the fight.

The girl picked out another piece of paper, the now familiar blue glow swirling around her as she looked over at Nymoria. "Hang in there!" the samurai shouted at her, "We're almost there, just hang on a little longer and lets finish this!"

Even if it wasn't obvious to anyone else, Yua could see that the stone wolf was on it's last legs. The wounds it had sustained had slowed it down. It's chest heaved as it sucked in breath after lifegiving breath. Just a couple more good hits, and it would go down. They could do this.

She could feel herself fading, the hype of the fight draining from her as the adrenaline slowly faded. At the same time, she felt her mind wander slightly, as she considered what was about to happen. I guess...I get to test those rumours sooner than I had expected...shit...

She could still hear the wolf growling above her, Yua shouting something from afar as Nymoria tried to fight against the the desire to simply go to sleep. It was amazing, in a way, how her digital body was reacting to all of this, just as if it was real. Real enough...that you're about to die, and leave Yua to fight alone...

The thought sparked something, and Yua felt herself suddenly jerk as she fought against the fading feeling. She wasn't done here, not yet. She still needed to fight, to help Yua, even if she couldn't help herself. Growling in response, she forced herself to her feet, using the wall for support as she raised the Ice Claw in her hand.

You've not...gotten rid of me yet, asshole...

She lunged forward, ducking underneath a paw as she slid to her knees, forcing herself forward and underneath the giant wolf, bringing her blade up even as she did so. Through sheer luck, brute force, or just a desire to live, she felt the blade dig into the skin, before being dragged along the creature towards its rear-end, feeling as the giant creature seemed to shiver in response.

She had a final moment of glee, an almost devilish grin on her face as she gave in to the tired, fading feeling. At least I'm taking you with me, you giant fluffy bastard...

It was just an instant. A single, solitary moment of valor, rage. One, both, neither. All that mattered was that the Moonstone Wolf was lying on the ground, unmoving. Yua breathed out a sigh of relief, her chest heaving as she sucked in breath after breath.

Yua sheathed her sword as she staggered over to Nymoria, every part of her body in pain. Another sheaf of papers, more blue shimmering ashes raining down over them. Slowly, their wounds sealed themselves, a cool sensation rushing through their bodies. Though it did little to regenerate their energy bars, at least they weren't in danger of dying yet.

"Good...job," the girl panted as she sank down to her knees and let her head hang back as she let out a long groan of exhaustion. "Ugh, that was a tough fight," the girl complained, sitting back on her haunches. "Are you okay?"

Nymoria felt the darkness pull back from the edge of her vision, a tired but content looking Yua settling next to her. She could barely move, everything in her body aching in ways she'd never experienced before. On her face, however, was a grin that bespoke a sign of enthusiasm - an almost chaotic appearance.

I feel...alive. A lot of pain, but definitely alive. Holy...shit...that was...that was something else entirely. I mean. Did you see that? Of course you did...

She shook herself, trying to sit up, but giving up as the pain flowed through her. She figured it'd still be a few moments before she'd be ready to move much more than the tips of her fingers. Every single second was worth this pain...every single second of freedom. I can't...get enough of this.

I see why people play this game...I don't think I'll ever be able to forget this experience. It's...so real. And not just like the graphics. I could feel my ribs breaking...the pain...that's horrible, right? Like I shouldn't be excited about that? Because I am...there's something almost...feral feeling about the whole thing...

She flashed a grin towards Yua that likely only further displayed the feral ideology. She didn't care, she was in adrenaline-based heaven, and everything right now was blissful. More.

Yua turned so she could lean back against the cool stone behind her, her head resting against the hard surface as she felt her body throb and ache. Nymoria was strange. That much was true. Lacking in discipline. Too eager for a fight, but Yua had to admit, when called to action, Nymoria certainly delivered.

"You have your pain inhibitors disabled?" Yua asked as she looked at the beastfolk still lying spread out on the ground. Yua knew there were several benefits to turning off the game's pain inhibitors. Greater control and freedom of movement during combat were chief among them. It was why Yua had hers disabled. It didn't exactly make combat enjoyable, but it helped her excel at the one thing she was good at. Speed and accuracy. She wasn't a very large person, so the girl couldn't rely on raw strength. She had to make up for her weaknesses in other ways.
