Nymoria's attention was drawn away for a few moments as she waited for the other woman - who remained frantically trying to escape from her own little corner, rather than approach the egg - to join her. She felt herself becoming more and more agitated at the obvious choice to be difficult, finally growling in response to the situation.

Would you just get...thank you. Finally.

Once the other woman had approached, Nymoria felt her patience slowly return - that was, until the thing appeared, the face slamming against the shell in what she could only explain as a horror movie introduction. The yelp that escaped her matched Imoogi's, and Nymoria felt herself grasping for her daggers, almost drawing them as she tried to figure out what in the hell that thing was.

Fucking...hell...I've no idea what that is, but I do not want to be here when it gets out...

Frantically, she began pulling at the nest, trying to widen the hole beneath the egg, ignoring the thorns and thistles that seemed to stab at her. She was determined to get out, determined to escape. Determined not to face whatever the hell was in the egg.

The Briar Nest

The Raveness has trapped you in its nest, with an ominously hatching egg. Escape won't be easy...

Each turn, roll a 1d100 and add the result to the hatching progress. When this progress reaches 500, the egg will hatch, which will start an encounter with whatever hatches from it.

On your turn, you may roll a DC 75 Expertise (Any) check to find or make a path to escape the nest. On a failure, you take 10 Retal as the thorns tear at you. At 3 successes, you successfully escape.

Alternatively, you may roll a DC 75 Attack on the giant egg. Add the resulting damage dealt to the hatching progress. The resulting amount of successes will be subtracted from HP if the egg hatches.

-10 HP from briar nest

Imoogi was quick to join Nymoria in the digging, ignoring the prick and bleed of the thorns ripping at her clothes. There was a frantic desperation now, replacing any sense of pride or desire to showboat. What had been in that egg was not a bird, and if even its mother was frightened of it, then god knew what it would do to them.

"Why... is this nest... so fucking hard to get out of?!

She didn't even care to suppress the intensifying hiss that accompanied her growing frustration. If only she had something like a knife, or some acid, or anything to make this easier. Or at least something to drown out the cracking of the shell and the low, fluttering chirps of the creature trying to break out.

With a sudden spurt, part of the shell fell away. A large beak broke through membrane and shell, quivered a moment, then drew back into the shell. And then, another breakthrough, as the hatchling began to rotated within the egg....

The thing still hovered on the edge of her vision, the face gone from the shell's visible edge, but the image of it engrained into Nymoria. Whatever the hell it was, she didn't want to remain here a single second longer - Raveness be damned, she was getting out. Turning her attention back to the nest, Nymoria focused on tearing around the small hole she had found, ignoring the brambles and thorns that stuck out, slowing herself down ever so slightly to try and break away their escape.

There...there I got it! Come on! Quick, you go first. I'll watch your back. Go!

She turned, drawing her Blood Claw and Ice Claw daggers, readying herself in case the thing within the egg began to make an appearance. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see the Raveness squawking and screaming - upset at their eventual escape, but unwilling to leave the perch it was currently located on. Is it...afraid of whatever the hell this thing is?

"Don't have to tell me twice!"

Imoogi didn't hesitate as the path was opened, crawling into the hole and leaving Nymoria behind. As she did, she began to hiss the words of a cloaking spell - one stronger than the one she normally used to muffle her own steps. Once Nymoria was through the hole, they'd both need the stealth. Otherwise that Raveness would probably just drag them right back.

She continued to dig and wiggle, thorns catching her clothing and ripping it, but she could see light. With one last push she broke through. Her first breath of fresh air was intoxicating.

"I'm through! Come on, hurry!"

And above, the egg continued to crack and rock, until with another spurt of liquid a large, featherless head finally broke free. One didn't have to know much about birds to immediately know that whatever it was, it was not a raven chick.

CHREEEE!

The egg rocked before toppling over, cracking it further as it fell away from Nymoria's opened path. It seemed tangled up in itself, unable to pull itself free. All four of its rolling eyes focused on Nymoria, and with it came a foreign emotion that was almost overwhelming.

It was hungry.

It was so hungry.

Above, the Raveness crowed and squawked, then spread its wings. It looked ready to finally take off, to approach the nest and the horrid hatchling within...

Imoogi had rushed through the opening, beginner the descent ahead of Nymoria. Cautiously, she'd waited, keeping an eye on the slowly cracking egg as it began to rock more and more in place. Agitated, frustrated that it couldn't get out, that the prey it had spied was leaving.

That's enough of that...I don't think I'm going to be eating chicken for a while...or maybe I'll eat more of it, to make sure things like this don't happen...

Turning away from the scene, Nymoria began her own descent, moving quick enough to escape as she heard the shell above cracking, opening, releasing whatever was inside of it. The scream that erupted into the air - some mixture of bird and...daemon, as far as she could tell - caused her to increase her speed, determined to escape the nightmare they had found themselves in.

Gogogogogogogo! Get the fuck out of here!

She called down beneath her, hoping that Imoogi was moving as fast, or faster, than Nymoria herself was. She ignored the numerous pricks and jabs that were slicing her hands as she made her descent, caring not for the pain so long as they escaped.

The sound of wings above caught Nymoria's attention suddenly, causing her to look up as she continued. Above them, the Raveness had taken to the skies, circling the nest, as if looking for something. Oh gods hopefully that thing didn't escape. It didn't matter, now. All that they needed to do was get to the ground, and continue away from this place. Everything else could be dealt with later. If there was a later.

As soon as her feet touched the ground, she was spinning to look for Imoogi, speaking even as her eyes searched everywhere.

We need to get the hell out of here and back to somewhere relatively safe...
