She gave the woman a sheepish smile as Moonsong hit the nail on the head as to why Yugam and her hadn’t actually gotten together officially, even though the chemistry between the two was almost palpable and hard to miss. "There’s a reason why all languages have certain idioms for long distance… we even have two of those on the island, but neither of them is actually positive or inspiring y’know?" A soft shrug of her shoulders followed the end of her words, before the brunette exhaled loudly and reached a hand to rest on Lúthien’s shoulder.

The elf was attentive as the slightly older idol spoke, and while Moonsong didn’t share too much of her experience verbally the blonde was able to read between the lines enough to get most of the missing picture. "That just means they weren’t the perfect one for you, Dee." It was her turn to reach towards the songstress, a hand resting on the woman’s knee before she patted it softly a few times for support. After all, yeeting oneself to a country wasn’t a light decision to be made, Lúthien was pretty sure her friend had her reasons back then to do what she had—and she shouldn’t regret them because someone else couldn’t handle being supportive through it all.

"Pffft please, that’s only like a handful of years at most," The elf let out a soft chuckle as Moonsong suddenly did the math between them. "That said you’re still looking fire as hell~ No one would ever guess you’re the oldest between the two of us."

Arms suddenly wrapped around her, the brunette pulling the ranger closer to her as she offered a few words of elderly advice. The action caught her off guard at first, foreign as it was for the blonde. A soft smile finally pulled at her lips before Lúthien allowed her arms to wrap around the waist of the older woman, her head resting comfortably against Moonsong’s shoulder.

"Thanks Dee… I’m glad we met one another."

However not even Lúthien’s dreamwalking abilities would’ve been able to foretell the events of a nearby future that would unfold…

"That just means they weren't the perfect one for you, Dee."

Somehow, that one stung a lot. Kenji hadn't mind dating a girl with no prospects whatsoever and promised to care for her when they marry. And she just had to ruin it with her stupid idol fame dream. "I guess," Moonsong pondered what could have been.

Her eye lightened up as Luthien complimented her looks. Korean beauty is all about looking young, after all. "Thanks. You're looking good, too." She returned the compliment, scanning the elf as if trying to decide if she was talking about Luthien or Valeria. The elf was cute, but the real-life counterpart was a beauty with a killer body. Lucky Yugam.

They stayed wrapped to each other like that for a while, Moonsong finally enjoying the scent of someone close embracing her. "Me too..." She muttered. "... Me too."

Her head turned towards the elf, slowly pulling her backwards onto the pillow. "But it's time to catch up on sleep. If we finish quick tomorrow, we can hitch a ride back to the town before noon." The brunette explained. Glowing eyes still locked on the elf's pair of ruby, she caressed the blonde's cheek one more, before calling her by her real name. "Good night, Val."

It does not even take the brunette one minute after closing her eyes for her to fall asleep, with a small smile painted on her face.

Perhaps it was best that Dayeon hadn’t shared more about the circumstances surrounding Kenji and herself in the past, otherwise the girl would’ve had a few choice words for her new nuna. Instead they enjoyed the warmth and comfort that could only be provided by hugging someone dear close, the shot of oxytocin currently being produced by both of their minds being a powerful bonding agent.

A soft chuckle escaped when Moonsong suddenly tilted back, pulling the elf along with her as both girls now lay on the single bed provided for their rest. "Alright, alright…" A foot managed to snag the corner of the provided blanket, kicking it closer before Lúth was finally able to grab onto a corner and pull the material loosely over them both.

"Can’t wait to see the look on their faces when we finish the fields before lunch hour~"

The woman’s hand reached over to gently caress the ranger’s cheek as she snuggled closer to Moonsong, the action both required for both women to fit in the bed but also welcomed. A soft hum escaped her, her eyes closing as the soft whispers of Moonsong reached her ears.

"G’night, Dee."

~ ~

Slowly her consciousness drifted, unaware at first as the blonde fell into a deep slumber. She wasn’t sure how much time might’ve transpired as the elf slowly became aware, her muscles sore from the day’s exertions and her mind drained from using so much magic…

... fuck. Not this again… It didn’t take long for Lúthien to recognize the little plane pocket her mind had drifted into once more, the material body constructed by the realm of dreams for the elf softly touching down an unseen floor. Maybe if I stay still long enough it’ll let me back out…

A person's mind is a safe space. Built for that they and them alone.

Deep in the darkness, there's a bed among the stars. A bed, full of dolls and teddy bears around it. In the middle, a girl lies asleep. The brunette, easily identified as Dayeon, smiled peacefully with eyes closed on the bed, music box echoing through the infinity space.

A woman in blonde locks descended from above, floating down to the side of the bed, slowly sitting on the side before gently touching the sleeping girl on the top of her head, waking her up. She was wearing another set of jet-black intimidating armor, but it looks cleaner and more modern than the one Moonsong wears. Her face is obscured by darkness, no matter where you look at it from.

"I still don't think you should go into that world yourself. You have me," The light-haired girl in black armor protested softly. "This is why I'm here. My purpose."

"I... don't know."
Dayeon reasoned. "I finally made a friend. I believe I can take care of myself."

"I know. I had friends too."
The mysterious girl tried to convince her, her hand patting Dayeon on the head. "But you're always the one protecting them. Just let me protect you, okay? You go be happy in the real world, I'll make sure no one will ever try to hurt us here." She promised, putting the brunette back to sleep just with a motion of her hand. The girl shrouded in dark then sensed something; someone was watching them.

"Who goes there?" The woman looked around, trying to find the pair of eyes that were witnessing. She quickly located the observer, staring right at them with emerald eyes glimmering through the dark space.

.
.

"You. How do you get here?" She growled menacingly. "Are you trying to hurt her?"

"No one. No one shall hurt her."

A set of golden wings manifested on her back, she took off zooming toward the observer at such incredible speed, she tore cracks in the dream world itself. Left arm extended, trying to catch the unwitting observer even through whatever window they were looking from.

"NO. ONE."

She huffed slightly, clearly upset upon finding herself in another’s dream realm… and it didn’t take a genius to figure out whose dream she was probably invading right now. I need to get out of here and fast, before Dee figures out I’m here— It was then that she spotted the lonesome bed in a sea of mist and stars. Even from a distance Lúthien could recognize the slumbering form of Dayeon atop it, the woman surrounded by various dolls and teddy bears as she dozed.

At least she’s asleep… wait, who’s that?

A sigh of relief had escaped the elf upon realizing her nuna wasn’t aware of her presence, before she quickly frowned upon seeing a dark figure float down and sit on the edge of the bed. The figure wasn’t one Lúthien recognized in the slightest, the intimidating presence of the other sending a shiver up Lúth’s spine… and yet the blonde couldn’t find it in her to look away from the pair.

Even from a distance her ears were able to pick up on the nuances of their conversation, something that only added to the girl’s confusion as she was an accidental witness to the moment between the two women. Eventually Dayeon had drifted back to sleep, but just when Lúthien thought that she might’ve managed to slink away the other woman turned a sharp look in the elf’s direction.

”Who goes there?”

¡Qué jodienda puñeta…! She visibly cringed upon being called out, a faint wince crossing her facial features before the blonde turned to face the other with an awkward chuckle. "N-No one important, really! Just took a wrong turn while looking for the dream restrooms, hahahaaa, but I’ll see myself out…?" A hand rose to rub the back of her neck, the elf clearly uncomfortable even as she took a step and then another backwards.

"No one. No one shall hurt her."
"I completely agree with you on that, no one should ever hurt Dee—"
”NO. ONE.”

Aah, fuck.

Dayeon's Dreamscape
Across the Stars

The woman in black glided through the infinity space across the stars, cracking the walls of the dream world as her speed picked up, quickly closening the gap between her and Luthien, the invader. She grabbed the elf with both her shoulders, forcing the trespasser to gaze at her green eyes. "You." The unknown woman paused as soon as she got a good look at Luthien's face, looking back and forth at her and sleeping Dayeon, apparently she recognized the ranger. "You're this 'friend' of hers. Luthien."

There's a clear distasteful tone on the word friend.

"Do you know who I am?" The woman asked, her British-accented voice booming around the dark cosmos. Weirdly, Dayeon doesn't even budge even with the loud voice echoing in this dreamscape.

"N-No?! Should I?!"

"Good. A warning; make her cry, and I will come to you."

The woman proceeded to throw Luthien into the void with an otherwordly force that might kick her out of the dream. The last thing the invader could see was the woman getting back to the bed and raising the blanket to cover Dayeon.

It was still early in the morning. If the elf woke up early, she would find Moonsong snuggling up to her like a baby, still asleep in peace.

The unknown figure rushed towards Lúthien with incredible speed, the blonde having barely taken three steps back when the older looking woman was upon her. She could see as the walls of the dream began to crack around them, a pair of hands reaching out to firmly grasp the ranger’s shoulders and hold her in place.

"You. You’re this ‘friend’ of hers. Lúthien."

She was too tongue-tied to respond, her crimson gaze glued to those green eyes that could pierce Lúthien with the intensity that gleamed behind them. Already she could tell this blonde wasn’t exactly happy with her presence here, elven ears perfectly capable of picking up the distaste in the woman’s voice as she called Lúthien a friend of Dayeon.

"Do you know who I am?"
"N-No?! Should I?!"
"Good. A warning; make her cry, and I will come to you."

Before she could interject the blonde felt a force knock her back, finding herself falling away through a massive crack that had appeared behind her. The last glimpse Lúthien got was the woman walking back to Dayeon, covering her sleeping form with a blanket, before everything else went dark.

~ ~

She woke up with a startled gasp, cold sweat causing the bangs and long strands of hair to stick around her forehead and sides. Inside her chest Lúthien could feel her heart beating a mile per minute, her breathing short and shallow as she tried to catch her breath once more. What the fuck… who was that? The ranger had only been left with more questions and now answers, a faint sigh escaping her lips as the blonde felt herself slowly return to normalcy once more.

One look at the windows showed that the sun still hadn’t risen in the horizon, before Lúthien’s gaze shifted to look at the older woman sleeping beside her. It was then Dayeon seemed to stir, the brunette turning towards the young archer, and another sigh left Lúthien’s lips as her hand reached over to her nuna. Carefully she brushed the bangs on the woman’s face, finding her sleeping expression as peaceful as that of a newborn babe—whatever Lúthien had just experienced didn’t seem to have an effect on Moonsong, at least as far as the elf could tell.

Finally lying back down the blonde would allow Moonsong to snuggle up closer as she seeked either warmth or comfort, perhaps both? Whatever the case might be Lúthien would not protest it, the elf eventually closing her eyes as she tried to rest… though no sleep would come claim the ranger as she simply waited for Moonsong to finally wake up on her own time.

"Mmm.."
A sliver of light shone through her eyelids, prompting the brunette to react and squirm around. Opening her eyes, Moonsong realized that she had been snuggling Luthien for a while now. The girl would not be able to resist softly pinching the ranger's right cheek, playing with it. "Morning?" She whispered.

Two servings of breakfast were delivered to the guest house. A youngster came bringing a tray of jam-filled bread and two glasses of milk. "Thank you!" Moonsong thanked him before chowing down. To think of it, they did not have dinner the night before. Thankfully Luthien brought some life-saving cookies (which the brunette hoarded).

The morning work was quite uneventful. The temperature is still low, and the air was cool. Using their masteries, they were able to harvest the remaining wheat fields effortlessly. There was no wheat left to harvest even before noon. The whole village was impressed by their quality of work, and the Elder even tried to give them some bonus pocket money. Surprisingly, this time Moonsong rejected the tip, having seen the condition of the village. "Just save it."

Waiting for the wagon, they rested on the guest house, making sure nothing was left behind. "Oh, right!" The songstress snapped her finger, reminded of the clothes the blonde lent her. "Your PJs! I'll return them to you next time we meet after I get them washed. Hope it will be soon!"

She had remained in that odd in-between state where one was resting, but not outright asleep, the blonde vaguely aware of her surroundings still even though her eyes were closed. Eventually the brunette next to her began to stir, her right eye opening to peer at the woman, before Moonsong was playfully pinching her cheek.

"Yeah, mowning sweepy head." A chuckle escaped her lips as Moonsong finally released her cheek, the blonde bopping the tip of the brunette’s nose in response. "Had a good sleep, Dee?"

A serving of freshly baked bread, stuffed to the brim with homemade jam, and a glass of fresh milk was their breakfast. It had been quite welcomed, Lúthien finding herself to be starving, and before long they had both finished off their meal and gotten ready for the day. Having found their groove the girls made quick work of the remaining wheat fields, and much like Moonsong the elf had also been unwilling to receive money from the village elder.

She did, however, stock up on a few of those jam-filled breads.

"Mmm? Oh, that’s alright," One last look was given around the guest house as Lúthien made sure she hadn’t left anything behind, the voice of Moonsong causing her to look over at the older woman. "I have a few others, so you’re free to keep them if you like the design~ I can even take you to the store where I bought them back in Finweald, Madam Myriil always has cool designs in stock."

She rubbed her eyes. "Yeah, I haven't had sleep as good as this lately." Moonsong stretched, yawning. "Been busy preparing, you know. I'm scheduling a comeback this autumn, and you're the first to know." The songstress winked, teasing the blonde for more DAYEONSONG music coming shortly.

Packing her scattered items back into her inventory, the woman was surprised that Luthien would just let her have the PJs. "For me? Aww, you shouldn't have." She playfully jumped onto the girl and hugged her. "That's a great idea! We should go shopping next week, so I can get clothes stocked in my inventory." The lack of clothing in her inventory, indeed, would bring a massive misunderstanding in the future that quickly snowballed into something much more.

"Oh, the wagon's here!" The brunette pointed out, gesturing for the blonde to follow her and climb the wagon. Without any delay, the bumpy wagon would depart. Looking at the fields they harvested along the way, Moonsong muttered. "Life around these parts isn't so bad, is it?" It's kind of peaceful, happy, far from any conflict; a far cry from their usual adventuring stuff. It's funny that youngsters would rather choose to adventure.

The wagon stopped, and the older woman slowly climbed out of it. "I'll log out as soon as I get back to the tavern. Still got more lyrics to review." The idol teased her next album once more, knowing that the elf in front of her would be hyped. "Oh, yeah, Val. About Ari..." Comfortable with the blonde, Moonsong called the girl by her real name, instead of her in-game moniker. "... Fighting!" She makes a fist and raised it with a smile, an encouraging gesture popular in Korea, before walking away.

Also, apparently she forgot to add Luthien as an in-game friend.

Hard work begets the fruit of that labor. Though the girls may have never seen it, the elders who were bending their backs and scratching their hands up trying to keep up with the younger Starcalled could do nothing but smile at the blue sky, proud of the work they had done. Or perhaps, proud of their choice to stay. Though, the residents of Vikform didn't have the dreams and nightmares that those of the Starcalled did.
Those older folk would wave them off, smiling, nodding. Bright eyes and wrinkled faces contrasted against the grey clouds gathered in the distant horizon.

Was staying in the Valley a mistake? Was helping them only enabling dangerous, selfish sentimentality? Or, was it the right thing to do?
