A figure stood before her, familiar with the red colouring, but Kyra couldn't quite place a name to the face she was seeing. She was far too focused on the encampment, the people in it who had caused so much damage. She could see some of their faces, hovering from the vision that had been provided to her back in the cave where they had found the guardian.

"Ruby...this...this is them. These are the people from the vision. The ones who did all the damage...who killed the guardian..."

Ruby. She remembered suddenly. She had come here with Ruby, to figure out what was going on. Ruby, who had stood by her side, through everything. Ruby, who had protected her, and in return Kyra had protected. The little cat-girl had become a dear friend to her, who had gone along with her silly ideas and not complained. She knew that Ruby would follow her here, do what was necessary. She knew it.

"Ruby...they all need to die. I'm going to kill them. All of them."

Her scythe in hand, Kyra stepped forward toward the encampment, a dangerous glint in her eyes as the swirl of blood around her almost seemed to thicken and speed up. A small gust of wind suddenly sprung up around Kyra's form, disturbing her hair and the few leaves around her, clearly centralised around the fox girl's form.

"So these are..." Ruby muttered along with Kyra's words, but something in her friend's tone and voice made Ruby interrupt her sight of those folk and focus on the beastfolk instead. The hatred in her words, the way she stepped forward.

Ruby's eyes went for Kyra's, then toward the children and the other innocent folks.

Yes, some of them were atrocious, or at the very least had no care for the consequence of their actions... But still, not all of them were like that-- Including some that couldn't even discern evil from good.

"Kyra!" Ruby called, holding onto her blade and charging toward the beastfolk fox. "This isn't right!" She exclaimed, caring not for hiding. Instead, she leaped on Kyra, trying to tackle her out of the path toward her targets, gritting her teeth as she braced herself for an impact, or perhaps even a dodge from the beastfolk.

Something came at Kyra from behind, slamming into her and causing her to spin in response. Immediately, Kyra raised her scythe and swung it around - stopping it just short of the figure's neck. The growl that erupted from her throat was one of direct threat - no calm tone to it, no growth or softness. It bespoke of a desire for one thing - blood.

"They all need to die. All of them. For what they've done. They've done so much damage, to the forest, to the guardian. They've done...horrible things. Unspeakable things. Things that...things that I can feel. The horrors, the hatred, the...pain. All of the damage that you've done, all of you. All of you. Need. To. Die."

She pulled back the scythe, raising it for a split second in a movement to bring it downwards in a slashing motion. She knew what needed to be done, what she should do to stop the pain. To stop the horror, the damage.

A flash, as a smiling cat-girl appeared in front of her, an image from so long ago. She felt herself falter, the scythe lowering slightly in response as she tried to piece together what was happening. There were so many images, colliding one atop the other. So many emotions, some...some that didn't feel like her own.

"Get...get out of my...Ruby...Ruby I need...to kill them. All of them..."

Ruby stared at Kyra's blade nearing her, and still, something halted the girl. Ruby scowled at the hostile gesture, but she also understood one thing: That wasn't Kyra's doing.

She moved forward, ignoring her friend's blade.

If she wanted to slash her, so be it. If she wanted to kill her, so be it. But she didn't want to lose her.

"Kyra!" She reached to hold her face with both of her hands, looking at her eyes intently, not wanting to allow her to look at the folk she wanted to kill.

"That won't do any good. Not all of them deserve it. And some of those who deserve, aren't even aware of what they are doing." Ruby looked at Kyra, with her ears flattening against her head. "This isn't like you. Kyra..." She pursed her lips.

"The caring and protective girl. That is a bit scared at times, but fight the danger regardless." Ruby muttered, with her hold on Kyra's face becoming softer, hoping she wouldn't use it as opportunity to escape from her sight.

"The one that does mistakes, but would never raise a blade to the innocent." Ruby said, almost whispering. "This is the Kyra I came back for... What is happening to you, Kyra?" She asked in a sad tone, but not accusatory "Who is turning you into this?"

Caring. Gentle. Protective. The words rang in Kyra's mind as she stared at Ruby. Ruby, who had been at her side. Ruby, who had saved her life so often Kyra was starting to wonder how she would ever make it up to the catgirl. Ruby, who Kyra had just threatened to cut down. Ruby...

She felt herself shake, the emotions welling up inside her as she tried to figure out what she was doing. She normally helped people - she remembered that, her time in the encampment, helping all those injured individuals, not knowing if they would even remember, or even care. Her time in the various expeditions, making sure that the Starcalled alongside her were safe, were healthy, were alive.

"I'm sorry...I don't know...I don't know what's wrong with me...I just...the hatred, the anger...it's so strong. It just...takes over and I just want to..."

She couldn't finish the thought. Couldn't say it aloud, lest it became true again. She tried to turn away, tried to get away from the situation. Whatever was happening here, whatever was going on, she couldn't be here. Couldn't do anything about it - not without risking becoming something other than who she was. A chance that she was not willing to take, if she had the choice.

"Lets...lets get out of here...we can tell someone about this place...tell them what's happening...I don't want to be here anymore..."

Kyra's words carried a weight Ruby didn't expect to come from her. Hatred and anger, the first one being such a powerful and ill emotion. That couldn't be Kyra, that was something else, that wasn't words and actions of dear Kyra.

"It is alright... It will be alright." Ruby said, resting a hand on Kyra's blade, gently pushing it away to give room for her to take the beastfolk fox in her arms and wrap her in a reassuring hug, keeping her close for a moment, brushing her hair and back before leaning away to look at her eyes with droopy ears.

"Let's go back... Back to the town. There is no need for us to meddle with all this any longer." Ruby said, knowing Kyra being there for any longer would only mean more suffering for her, coming from whatever was draining her emotionally.

"I promise we will find an answer. We will..." She rubbed her arm, gently tugging Kyra, urging her to move away when she was ready for it.

A soft nod, as Ruby mentioned heading back to town. All she wanted to do now was to get away - from here, from this place, from the guardian and its visions. From herself. She wanted to escape what she was right now, this disturbed version of herself.

An answer...maybe. I don't know if I ever want an answer to this.

She almost wondered if it would be better not knowing - not knowing what had come over her, or what had happened here. Not knowing what had happened with all of this, just to leave it behind and never think about it again. Maybe this is why people avoid taboo magics...toeing the line on darkness comes at a cost...maybe this is mine...

She shook away the thoughts as she turned away from the camp. She had a lot to consider, even if she didn't want to, but for now she just needed to get away. Looking back towards the way they had come, Kyra spoke softly.

Let's start by leaving this place...and never returning, so long as we don't need to. Someone at the town can...deal with this.

Someone calmer than me... Her brow furrowed at the thought, before casting it aside. Whatever was going on, she was done here. That much, she was sure of. She wanted nothing further to do with this guardian, or the people here. She just wanted to head home, and be done.

A journey began with a desperate search for answers, followed by only more questions. Friends quarrel, and then they make up. Life continues - except for many of those critters and creatures who resided in the forest. The scars left by those in the camp to the forest would be the same as those left on our two adventurers. Forever burned into their mind, the imagery of the destruction of those who forged out. These would be the least of the crimes to come.

Those 'civilized' people in the encampment were not the only ones present. Through out the journey, eyes watched their every movement. Eyes that were beady, and starving. Eyes that posed a much bigger threat to the forest, and to such people.

Could you forgive those present, when the time came? Or will they get what you believe they deserve?
