"This is being harder than I thought it would be..." Chako muttered to herself as she fell on the ground again.

Today's dance practice session was a choreography for a classic song of the Slime Girls. Chako spent a fair amount of time watching and rewatching it so that she could rehearse it in Honeyhome, but... It wasn't going that well.

So far, most of her dance practices had either been with Ruby's help, or simpler dances she saw on metube herself, but... An idol's choreography really was on a whole nother level.

There were way too many steps to remember, and they were often more complex than what Chako had managed to learn so far, so... She was really struggling.

Still, she wanted to get this done. It was her best friend's favorite song, after all. She wanted to be able to show off for her.

So, Chako got up and started again. Humming the song as she moved with extremely clumsy steps. This time for sure I'll...

And so, Chako fell again. She lost count of how many times it had happened already... Still, she just sighed, got up, and restarted once more. One step at a time.

Moving around Falderen wasn't easy, particularly because she wasn't well-liked in general, being obviously a Starcalled and that... Ilmea incident.

But Honeyhome was always open to everyone. It had that familiar, comfy first-village vibe, like Riverwood from a particular Todd Howard RPG game. What was it, Landrim? Every now and then, you just get the need to go back and chill around the town.

As Lune walked along the stone path, the side of her eyes picked up something interesting. A rather small Felis was dancing. Perhaps she had seen the girl somewhere, but the older woman could not remember. That was not what caught her attention, but rather...

"Isn't that..."

It was nowhere near yet, but those steps were definitely the choreography for the chorus part of Me to You, the title track of the second Slime Girls album. Or as people say, the classic. Of course, she would recognize the move, for it was she who choreographed it.

Lune observed from a distance, watching as the girl hummed the exact melody and tried to replicate the steps again, to no avail. It was not a simple footwork, after all.

The woman decided to slowly approach the girl.

"Fan of Slime Girls?" She asked.

"Fan of Slime Girls?"

A single phrase directed at Chako was all it took. She lost her balance again and fell on the ground once more.

Chako didn't really mind it at this point though. She just sat up and turned towards the voice's source, "Oh, hey! It's you! Unnie! Fancy meeting you here!" Chako offered her a handshake, "We never introduced ourselves properly in the middle of that strange simulacrum thingy, right? I'm Chako!"

If Unnie accepted the handshake, Chako would make use of her help to get up. Otherwise, she'd try getting up on her own with unsteady feet.

"And uhn... Not exactly? I'm more of a fan of classic music myself, but my best friend loves Slime Girls. I think she knows all the songs by heart.

"I kinda wanted to surprise her, so I have been practicing." Chako blushed a bit while imagining her friend's reaction, "Trying to copy idols' choreography is tough though! I lost count of how many times I fell already!" It would probably be easier if Chako could actually look at the choreography itself while practicing, but this wasn't really possible for her, so she just tried memorizing the steps and replicating them on Terrasphere.

"You a fan of them too? Like, I think you were, since you brought it up while I was practicing, so I guess you recognized what I was trying" and failing "to do. Unless you brought it up as a random conversation starter and didn't notice what I was doing, in which case it would be really embarrassing and...

"... Maybe I should stop talking." Chako started getting quite red... Why did she have to imagine this being just a stupid coincidence? Now she's thinking of herself as really silly.

"Oh, right. The simulacrum." The memory came back to her. The girl introducing herself as Chako was the healer-dancing catgirl she encountered in the simulacrum-thing. Lune extended her hand to meet the girl's handshake. "Call me Lune." She helped the felis to get off the ground with a pull.

She doesn't know why the Chako didn't just practice in front of the mirror in real life while looking at the video instead of doing it in the game, but a thought passed her head that it just might be not possible. "It is indeed hard. Wait, maybe hard isn't the right word." The woman put her hand on her chin, nodding her head. "It's quite different."

"Yup, I'm a big fan of them."
Of course she wasn't going to say she's Dayeon Song of the ex-Slime Girls. Fortunately, K-pop fans are known to be extremely dedicated, so it's not out of place. "I quickly recognized the steps because I used to dance this part, too." At least that one wasn't a lie.

She had an idea. It wouldn't hurt to teach her the basic steps. "Been a long time, but perhaps I can still show you." The white-purple-haired woman stretched a bit, slowly moving backward to make some room as she looked at the girl. "Five, six, seven, eight."

Two steps forward, right foot forwards, right foot go back, three-sixty spin, legs together tiptoeing, playful steps, delicate steps backward, and the final elaborate footwork that puts boxers to shame. It looks like she still had it, despite not practicing this specific choreography for two years now, albeit she missed some details here and there.

She ended the move by balancing herself, before exhaling and turning to Chako. "I think that's it for the first part? More or less?"

"Lune?" Chako tilted her head a bit as she was helped up, maybe Unnie is some sort of nickname, then? Something only her closer friends use? "Alright, then. Lune it is." Chako figured it was better to not dwell on it too much.

"Ah, yeah. It certainly feels nothing like a waltz, for sure." Chako nodded, and decided to not comment on the part of hard not being the right word... Though in all fairness, Chako did struggle a fair bit with almost any dance she practiced, so she figured that maybe it just being fairly different from what she was used to was enough to make it feel harder.

Then, Chako heaved a sigh of relief when she heard Lune was a fan... I really was overthinking it for nothing-

And her ears instantly perked up at Lune's next words, "You did!? Then maybe could you-" Chako didn't even need to ask, as Lune already volunteered herself to help.

Chako stared intently at each step Lune made, her eyes dilated and her tails started going up as Lune moved, until eventually Lune stopped, and...

Chako instantly lunged upon her, grabbing both of Lune's hands, "T-that was amazing! How did you get so good at this!? L-like, whoa! It felt just like I was watching an idol live!" It instantly reminded her of Ruby, who was actually a dancer and singer back on Earth too, "You wouldn't happen to secretly be a pro dancer or something would you!?" Nah, no way. As if she would really meet up with 2 pros in her short time in Arcia. There's no way she could be this lucky.

"Hey, hey, if you have the time, could you help me a bit!? Because like, like..." Chako started blushing, "I really do want to get this right... It's for a really special person to me..." Well, she already helped by showing the moves. It was easier to understand it by seeing them live for sure... Chako hoped she wasn't being too bothersome by asking for more.

Lune was surprised when Chako suddenly jumped and held both of her hands. "You wouldn't happen to secretly be a pro dancer or something would you!?"

"That would be too convenient, wouldn't it?"
She chuckled, doubling down on the 'super-fan' guise. Perhaps she should have held back a little, but oh well. Lune shook her head a bit, "It's practice, in the end. Some are talented at these kinds of things, some make do with hard work."

"Hmm,"
The woman looked around. The sun's still up, shining brightly, and it's not like she had an important business to attend anyway in Honeyhome. "Sure, I'll help you." She nodded at the request, her neutral face hiding the fact that the woman was somewhat happy knowing someone had the passion to learn about the dance she choreographed. Also the fact that the girl really wanted to do it for a friend.

Taking a few steps back, Lune clapped once to get the felis' attention. "This is how idols usually practice dances, and I found this method easier too." She explained what they were going to do. "Stand in front of a mirror and do each move separately at half speed. That way, we can review the moves as we do it. But since we don't have a big mirror with us..."

She slowly made the opening move in front of Chako, but the steps were flipped; the left became right, and the right became left. "... I'll be your mirror image, this way I can grade your moves, too. Just gotta follow me, understand?" Lune waited until the small beastfolk was ready, before signaling her. "Ok, five, six, seven, eight."

With half the tempo, the first move was slowly displayed in front of Chako, allowing her to follow suit.

Chako chuckled together with Lune, "Yeah, way too convenient." Ruby must be the only person in the entertainment industry who was actually willing to play an illegal game. Chako really couldn't imagine why anyone in that position would want to go to Terrasphere.

Chako shook her hand at Lune's next words though, "No way. Everyone makes do with hard work. Talent just reduces how much hard work you need.

"I'm not that great at dancing, but I'm quite confident in my harp. My teacher told me I was quite talented with it, but I still had to practice plenty to make the songs play out properly. Talent does no miracles."

And then Chako's smile beamed as Lune agreed to help her out, "Thank you so much!!!" She shook Lune's hands up and down before Lune took a few steps back and clapped. After that, Chako went quiet as her full attention started focusing on Lune's words.

She was about to bring up the lack of Mirror when Lune suggested being Chako's own mirror... She's amazing... Chako thought to herself as Lune made the half-speed mirrored moves like that was no biggie... Chako couldn't even imagine doing that. It's like trying to play a song backwards from finish to start. Something absolutely beyond Chako's reach.

... She started seriously doubting Lune's claim of just being a big fan of Slime Girls, but she was not going to pry into it. If Lune was the second coming of Ruby, then she would state it if/when she felt comfortable with it and not a moment before.

So, Chako just nodded and got into position. She was certainly unable to try humming the song at half speed, so she decided to just focus on the movements themselves and not mind the melody.

It was... Going way better than Chako expected! Like, whoa! Half-speed really made a world of difference! And seeing Lune do the steps herself too also helped a lot! It was much easier to replicate when having a model as opposed to going from memory of what she saw in metube from a fixed angle.

Chako honestly didn't have many hopes of improving without someone directly guiding her like Ruby did when they first danced a waltz together, but... Look at me now! Look at me go! This is amazing! Chako finally started feeling like her legs were really her own.

It surely was going to be harder when they went back to full speed, but still... Just doing those steps here next to Lune felt like pure bliss to Chako right now.

So, when they were done with the first set of steps, Chako stared at Lune with obviously expectant blissful eyes, "So, how did I do!? How did I do!?"

"Well, I have met face-to-face with overwhelming talents before." The survival show, and even her groupmates. She was both happy and sad when the girls were able to copy her choreographies in just one or two tries. Especially Ekaterina, since all that woman needed was one glance. "Let's just say it... was quite a discouraging experience." She smiled dryly.

As the pair began to move in unison, Lune concentrated on Chako's move, particularly the steps, how she crossed her legs, and general footwork spacing while slowly showcasing the dance. "One, two, three, four. Five, six, seven, eight." The tempo was repeated several times to guide through the slowed-down choreography.

Seeing the difference between Chako's last try and this one firsthand was amazing. The girl managed to follow her to the final moves, even with the upper body and hand movements already incorporated. Another diamond in the rough? "And done." It didn't seem that there was any missed footwork, which was already a great accomplishment.
"So, how did I do!? How did I do!?"

"You tell me, how did you feel?"
She chuckled. "The moves just now didn't seem to come from someone who kept tripping trying to replicate the dance."

As Lune judged, she showed some of the hand movements that were quite important to the overall dance, such as hand twirl, and then she extended her right hand gracefully, before curling her fingers inward in a cascade. "You got the majority of the core parts right. There are some missed details and power adjustments, but they can be tweaked later." All the little things, really. But they add up, and that's why K-pop choreographies are complex.

"Now you have the basic, do you think you're ready for the full-speed mirror dance?" The woman stretched.

Chako felt like the discussion with Lune was not going to go anywhere on the talent topic, so she decided to not argue any further... That said, Lune meeting up with supposedly overwhelming talents before did spark Chako's interest, "What did you meet them in? Something related to your job? Or to the dancing hobby, perhaps? I never met anybody that made me feel like that myself, so I'm curious now! In both school and at classic music recitals, I always felt like the people beating me had just put in more effort into it, yanno!?"

... Hold on, ain't I just arguing over it through a different perspective after just giving up on arguing about it...? Geez! Think before you speak, Chako! This was stupid!

... But it was hard to hold back the curiosity... Like, where would you even find overwhelming talent you can't compete with when you're a fan that can remember choreographies from head this well, and can even do them mirrored? It felt so absurd to Chako, so... Well, she couldn't help strengthening her doubts that Lune really was the second coming of Ruby, after all.

Either way, Chako did her best to follow Lune in the dance, and Lune's reaction to it was... Well, it seemed good, "I feel great!

"Though I could only follow it properly by seeing you dance... That, and the whole half speed thing really helped. It's easier to control my body when moving slowly, yanno?" Because well, Chako still felt a bit awkward with having functional legs, even if she was making progress in getting used to them.

Chako then nodded at Lune's next statement, "Practice makes perfect. Can't really get things right in one go... Though just having the basics steps down already gets me a lot more confident in eventually pulling this off!" Chako said honestly. She really wasn't sure if she was ever getting this right without Lune's help... Remembering the steps from her head and without any visible reference was just way too hard.

And in response to Lune's question, Chako instantly replied, "Absolutely not!" then chuckled, "But I'm not getting anywhere without trying it out, so... If you can guide me a bit further, I'd be really thankful!" Chako smiled widely.

"Someone from work. A colleague."

Lune recalled in a simplistic fashion without getting into too many unimportant personal details. "Friends now, sort of. Someone who could achieve anything if only she doesn't get bored too easily." Alas, she had nothing to do with this anyway, so the woman quickly cut the topic short and focused on the present. "Anyway, enough of the genius. It's now between us, normal people with their efforts..."

She motioned toward Chako and back to herself, "... And our weird methods to push through mediocrity. Here, I'll let you know one other method that might also help." Clapping, the older woman explained to the felis about this other method. "You have certainly at least seen a K-pop dance challenge short video on social media, right? Sometimes they wear hats and masks to hide their face." Not all, but some.

"Wanna know why they do that? It's because they were actually shouting each move's name out loud while performing them." It's because they gotta strike when the iron's hot, and that's when the music video had just been released. Not enough time to practice, but definitely easier when you can just shout the moves to make it easy for your brain to sync with your muscles. Perhaps this is a scientific thing? Lune wouldn't know. "No kidding, I know because I'm also guilty of it."

To show an example, she walked back a few steps. "The first four moves, let's just repeat this one until you feel confident." And then she did the initial steps in normal speed while calling out the simplified terms as she was doing the choreo simultaneously. "Gangster walk, right foot front, right foot back, three-sixty windmill."

Four moves should be easy enough to get correctly, and still long enough to maintain connection between key poses. "The names are kinda weird, but you get the gist." She chuckled, "Let's try it, shall we? I'll be your reflection again."

Chako got more suspicious at hearing it was from work, like... Yeah, sure, it could be like... Some super amazing programmer that got everything instantly, but she felt like this wasn't it... She decided to not pry any further though. Lune didn't even mention what she worked with, so Chako figured it was best to stop before she opened her mouth again and continued talking after already telling herself to stop.

So, she focused on the other things that Lune brought up, "Ah, a dance challenge? Uhn... I think I might have seen one or two?" Chako tried to remember... Something that Evelyn might have shown her... Yeah, it probably happened before, Chako figured. There was definitely a vague memory out there of a video of people dancing with weird masks and hats that Chako just couldn't understand at all.

Though she opened her eyes wide, and perked up her ears at the next statement, "Wait, they did what!?" And then... Lune was also guilty of it?

... Lune not only had this kind of inside knowledge, but she had also done it herself... Very very suspicious... Chako really really wanted to pry more, but she also didn't want to be rude, so she held herself back.

Though Chako also couldn't help wondering if she wasn't holding a huge conspiracy theory all by herself after meeting Ruby, like... Hello? Not everyone that knows the insides and out of the dancing world has to be a pro... Chako figured she might be being really stupid right now, but... She also couldn't stop suspecting Lune of it.

"Okay!" Chako nodded. Four moves certainly felt more possible than getting the whole song done.

However... Chako started giggling when hearing the moves' names... "Oh dear, I'm sorry, I just can't..."

She tried taking a deep breath... "Okay... Let's do it...!"

So, Chako started repeating Lune's steps while speaking the names out loud... While obviously suppressing some laugher as she danced, "Gangster walk, right foot front, right foot back, three-sixty windmill... Pfffthahaha!" Her moves were far too clumsy with the laugher stopping her from focusing at all. It was honestly a miracle she didn't fall down in the first place.

"Sorry, sorry. I know you're trying to help, but I really don't think I'll be able to do it while screaming gangster walk and three-sixty windmill!" Chako exclaimed honestly... It was just too funny for her.

"Do we have any other cheat codes to make it easier? Or... Well, I guess we can just try it normally and hope for the best?" Chako asked in-between breaths, as she still struggled with stopping her laugher.

Still, Chako honestly didn't mind practicing normally until she succeeded. She was just worried about Lune getting bored with helping her out. Last thing she wanted was to be a bother to someone else... She already did that enough on her day to day life.

Her cheeks stayed pale, but anyone could tell that she was blushing from embarrassment as Chako laughed at her choice of move-naming. "Well," Lune muttered, eyes to the side. "Those were the only names I could think of while watching the original dance." It's worse knowing that she was the actual creator of the choreography itself.

After a long inhale, the woman regained her composure before thinking of another method that could perhaps help the process. Which, after precisely thirty seconds, she came up with absolutely nothing. "Unless you somehow have eidetic memory, I can't think of anything else." Which the girl definitely doesn't, or else she wouldn't have difficulties.

Shrugging, she suggested something. "Or perhaps you could come up with your own version of the names? Something that your memory would easily associate with the moves. Or worst case, we can just go back to the half speed and practice it over and ov..."

The woman looked around them, and she noticed some kids from the town were watching them for a while. They also tried the dance by themselves. A seemingly random idea appeared inside her head. She turned to Chako, motioning towards the village kids. "What about... a group practice?"

It's a group choreography, after all. Having others around you help with the rhythm, tempo, and timing.

Chako felt a bit bad when seeing Lune's reaction and the words that followed it... She thought Lune had found the step names online, not that she had come up with them. She didn't mean to mock Lune, "Ah, sorry..." Was all she could say to try patching up the situation... Obviously not enough though.

Then Lune seemed to go deep in thought... Probably in response to Chako's question of another cheaty method... The awkward silence lasted for a bit too long though, so Chako was about to break it by saying they could practice normally, when Lune said she had nothing. Or well, nothing realistic, "I can assure you I don't have Eldetic memory!" Chako wouldn't have struggled as much as she had if she had eldetic memory... Like, she would have still struggled plenty with the steps, alright, but not that much.

"Coming up with my own names...?" Chako thought about it for about half a second before instantly giving up on the idea and shaking her head. That was just not happening. She would die of embarrassment if she tried shouting any move name she came up with out loud.

... She could now understand why those K-pop idols used masks in the challenges Lune spoke of. It seemed impossible to do that without hiding yourself... It was honestly really impressive that Lune could do it with a straight face before Chako burst out in laughing.

So, guess normal practicing it is-

Lune stopped her own sentence midway. Chako was a bit confused at that, at least until Lune came up with the group practice idea, "Oh, that!" It's not like Chako hadn't heard the murmurs of people near them, or even the harder steps that some of them were doing, so... Even if Chako hadn't looked back to stare at them, she was aware that they had an audience for a while now, though she didn't know that the harder steps were people actually trying to dance with them.

But more important than that, Chako was no strange to tripping in public, so... "Sure! Let's go! Please lead the charge then, Lune! You can be our center idol!" Chako smiled widely.

"Hmm, perhaps leave it as a homework for later, then." She knew how hard it was to come up with a memorable name on the spot, so the woman quickly dismissed it for a later study when it seemed like the girl couldn't do it.

Chako didn't seem to be opposed to the idea, so the older woman nodded before turning towards the crowd. "Right, let's ask them."

"Hello!"
While Lune was walking towards the youngsters, they looked surprised and possibly a little bit scared, possibly because of how the woman looked. Waving at them as nicely as possible, she asked. "Do you want to dance with us?" The kids looked at each other, unsure and full of doubt. "The more the merrier!" Lune pushed, before reassuring them. "Don't worry, I will teach you."

After looking at each other more, they finally gave in to the temptation and nodded. Giving a thumb up toward Chako after successfully recruiting the kids, Lune started to show them where to stand, placing Chako near herself as she stood in the center, slightly more forward so others could see her clearly.

Clapping to get their attention, she gave the signal. "Let's go. One, two, three, four."

Because group dancing would be really weird and also hard without the actual song itself, Lune decided to use Harmonic Magic to amplify her voice and sang that part of the song to accompany the dance.

"And I was wrong for thinking that I don't love you~"

"Yeah, homework..." Chako averted her eyes... She knew she was not coming up with names for any of those steps.

Well, never mind that. Lune seemed to be ready to take the initiative to convince the others for a group practice, so Chako followed behind her while letting Lune do the talking, because... Well, she was pretty sure she had already seen all those kids before, and they had all seem her trip more than a few times in the past, so... Yeah, she didn't think she was the best person to make a dance invitation.

Still, she smiled and waved to a child or two that stared directly at her, looking forward to their participation in their practice session.

So, with their new comrades recruited, and a thumbs up exchange with Lune, it was now time to get back to practice!

And this time... Lune was actually singing the song aloud. It was beautiful. Chako's ears perked up as she listened, and she honestly felt like just stopping the dance and focusing on Lune's singing.

Like, she wasn't even that fond of K-pop in the first place, but she certainly knew how to recognize a good singer when she saw one. And Lune was absolutely an amazing singer.

Still, Chako also remembered that Lune was doing this to help her, so she kept on going. With a big smile on her face as she danced together with Lune and the kids... For once, the steps flowed naturally out of her. It was far from perfect, but it didn't need to be. Chako just remembered the slowed down practice, and tried to keep up with it at the normal speed.

And well, the music just helped a lot. Chako just tuned in to it, and ended up instinctively understanding the timing of each step... Chako was just happy. Smiling from ear to ear as they progressed through the dance.

Until they finished the last step, and Chako hadn't tripped at all until the end... She couldn't even believe it. How was it that moving her legs felt so easy and natural during this dance?

Chako jumped in place in excitement when they were done, "Oh wow, oh wow! I-I can't believe it! I actually danced it to the end!"

Chako also overheard some of the kids being surprised by it... And one child in particular grumbling about how they couldn't believe they lost a bet, followed by the sound of coins moving hands, but... Chako decided to not mind it, and instead, she glomped Lune, "Thank yoooooou! You're amazing! Your singing just felt magical! I just felt my feet flying together with your song! It was absolutely increeedible!"

A few of the kids also seemed to take the cue to swarm Lune with hugs and praises, with some even asking her to teach them how to sing like that.

The group danced, following the lead of Lune who was in front and center. The kids could follow along, albeit imperfectly, but Chako's movement was the best that she ever did today. The dance routine that spanned for at least 10 seconds ended without an incident.

"How is it?" The woman turned to the kids, who were already excitedly crowding around her. "It's.. different." One answered, while another jumped with more enthusiasm. "It's incredible!" The short session seemed to have instilled some confidence in them, as they quickly went back to try some moves while Lune talked with the catgirl.

"There were no missed steps at all. You already got it." She assessed honestly. In the end, Chako managed to complete the dance steps to the chorus and it was much more than passable. Hearing the girl's praise of her vocals, she shrugged. "I'll give the credit to the harmonic magic."

"You know, it's quite uplifting to see that people are still discovering Slime Girls to this day,"
Even when she tried her best to look neutral and stoic, Lune couldn't hide the slight smile on the corner of her lips. "The group might be no more, but I'm forever a SLIMEY." She tapped her chest several times, proud to be part of the fandom. Well, the idol is also part of the fandom. By technicality, zero lies were being said here.

Chako beamed with happiness as Lune told her that she already got it. She knew there was still room for improvement, but she was seriously excited about having this much done already.

She frowned when Lune gave the credit to the Harmonic Magic though, "Why lie like that? You do know I use Harmonics too, don't you?" It was about as obvious as it could be in that labyrinth thingy, "And my singing is pretty terrible." It's not like Chako couldn't use Harmonics to help her out with voice-related matters though. She was using it to practice echolocation, after all.

Just... Access to Harmonic Magic can't substitute hard work. You wanna sing well, you gotta practice plenty for it. Chako was sure Lune had spent a lot of time learning how to sing the way she does.

Either way, Chako giggled at Lune calling herself a slimey, "I thought the slimey one was that blue girl we met in the labyrinth!

"And well, I blame by best friend for me finding out about Slime Girls! She is huge into K-pop! I'm more into classic music myself, but... Well, I hope she likes the surprise I'm making for her." Chako let go of the hug, started blushing a lot and fidgeting quite a bit.

Ah, well. Pushing her luck on putting the credits on the in-game mastery could only go so much. "Well, thank you, then. I'm not going to deflect another compliment." The woman shrugged, taking the praise that she felt was still unwarranted.

Chuckling at Chako's joke, Lune stood still for a couple of seconds before the girl let go of the hug. "I hope all goes well, don't forget to keep practicing so you don't forget the moves." She advised the felis. After all, the ones they practiced were only a small portion, and people easily forget moves by not doing them.

With the quality of the dance that Chako displayed earlier, the woman was sure her friend was going to be impressed.

"Oh, yeah, you owe me a favor now."
Putting her hands on her chin, the tall human tilted her head, while sounding serious. She then suddenly smiled lightly at Chako, "Go give Slime Girls' music a try once you go back, won't you?"
