It had been an interesting job for Mio, a quest for a dive into a sunken ship for some lost equipment of a mage lost long ago. While she wasn't sure what kind of experimental tools went down, she got information from the man about the appearances and where they could perhaps be found on the ship. For Mio, it was a nice job, pay for the dive, pay for a dangerous mission under the water, and even more, permission to salvage what she pleased. She could almost feel the gold and cash in her hands, if things went really well, she might be able to continue having nice meals for a while, and even do some recreational things, like a trip to a movie theater, or some new clothes if there was anything fancy for her to loot.

Of course, the worst part for her was the nature of the job. Her skills revolved around painting and ink after all, but ink and water certainly didn't mix. Though she loathed her alternative plan for combat, it didn't have the same aesthetic appeal or elegance she liked to use normally, but if it got the job done, she'd have to just be satisfied with getting the job done no matter how dirty. Even now while on board the vessel that would take them to the site, she glanced at her ink covered hands while her tail swayed knowing it would just become a mess in the water. "We're going to be arriving at the site soon ma'am." One of the crew members approached her while she leaned against the railing. Nodding her head, she pushed herself off the edge to get ready. There were a few other other pairs or stray participants in the quest, but Mio waited among them trying not to stand out too much though her height likely drew more attention then anything. "Alright everyone, we'll send you down in teams of two using the diving bell, pair up, get a partner, when we're ready we'll start sending you all down one by one." The first mate yelled over the edge of a balcony.

Mio hesitated when they talked about sending people in pairs, she raised a small hand and called out while her tail swished. "I don't have a partner. Who am I going down with?" She asked, wondering if anyone would step up to join her or if the crew would pair her off with someone at random.

Brutus found himself on a boat, heading off into the deep blue to pry treasure and salvage from a sunken ship. Something about the gear of an ancient magician? The broader strokes were lost on the Giant, but honestly he was in it for the adventure. The ship lurched and lulled with the motion of the ocean, but the giant did his best to not mind. He wasn't quite a seasoned sailor, but he'd done one or two pirate reenactments, but he wasn't quite the best sailor. Either way, it was go time soon.

They approached the site, and suddenly everyone was getting into pairs, leaving the giant and...another tiny woman. Jesus christ, this must have been the fifteenth or so tiny woman he'd met in this game. It was beginning to get out of hand, but he wasn't complaining. He would step up to the tiny fox woman and offer her a hand to shake and a toothy grin.

"Yo! Brutus Dahlgren at your service. Looks like we're gonna be going down together eh?"

He had no idea what this was going to be like. He'd been snorkeling once when he was younger, but he didn't even think he'd been swimming at the Giant, let alone diving like this. He assumed he would have bigger lungs, which would allow him to hold his breath longer, but other than that, all bets were off.

"Have you ever dived like this before?" he found himself asking. If neither of them of them had done this before, they could be in some real danger.

Mio craned her neck slightly, if it was reality she'd perhaps be able to not be dwarfed so thoroughly, but she'd chosen her height for a reason. Small hands make it easier to be a thief and an artist at least, she felt it would help, though she'd never know about the man's first impression of her. Focusing more on the introduction she lifted her hand for a shake with a bright smile, her black inky hand, despite being completely stained didn't leave anything behind in the hand shake as she spoke. "Yo! Mio Ban, artist, scoundrel, debonair. Pleasure to be working with you." She introduced herself, welcoming as she could manage.

When he asked about the dive though, she tilted her head in thought, fingers rubbing together, the symbol for money as she explained. "Yeah, few times. It's not so bad. You go down in the bell that'll hold the air for us, swim around and look for loot, careful of sharks and sea stuff, they're not as nice as they are in reality... Erm, pay attention to air pockets and watch out for monsters-- they get real big and scary in the sea." She tried to give as many tips as she could think of. The marine life was a lot more hostile then it was in reality, but the non-real creatures were no doubt more threatening, though she hadn't seen any kind of deep sea leviathan species or anything, it didn't stop her from warming Brutus that they existed.

"It'll be pretty dark down there if you don't have a light, and just don't get tangled in anything or touch anything too brightly colored, you should be okay." She spoke giving him a slap on the arm hoping to boost the man's confidence, in her eyes he seemed uneasy at least. A lot of the time these types of exploring adventures just ended up with some spooky scares and creepy critters. What could go wrong?

"A pleasure to meet you." He would give her hand a light squeeze.

The giant grinned as the rogue shook his hand and listened to her words intently. Alright, seemed...easy enough it would seem. Don't get tangled watch what you touch, and for the love of god be careful around critters. How hard could it be? The man would turn and look to the rest of the crew as they were getting ready. People were packing all sorts of gear like tridents, strange looking lanterns, and even a primative form of goggles. He was suddenly feeling very underprepared, but he could make up with some of his skills.

"Sounds easy enough I suppose."

Light? He could make his hands glow with pyromancy if need be, heat them up till they glowed orange. Bonus points for warming himself up and the surrounding area. Fighting critters...uh, that might be a problem. Maybe he could sock them with his fists, he was a giant and incredibly strong, his hands alone could be lethal weapons.

Finally, it appeared it would be their turn coming up, and he would turn to the rogue and take a deep breath. "Time to take the plunge eh?"

Nodding along, it wasn't too hard, at least, most of Mio's diving exploits had gone well, go down, punch some kind of fish, get gold, easy-peasy. When their turn came up, the large diving bell came towards the deck; shaped like a church bell without a hammer inside, instead there were only hammered in hand railings. When it was their turn, Mio didn't hesitate to climb on, being so small it wasn't too hard for her to lift herself up onto the small railing normally meant for holding to sit as opposed to hanging. "They'll just drop us right in, so hang on." She cautioned hoping Brutus wouldn't get swept away as a group began hoisting the bell up. Of course it was possible to wait for them to plunge the bell down and just swim down after it, but it was just easier to ride the thing down in Mio's eyes.

When it was lifted and brought towards the edge of the ship, Mio braced herself holding on tight for it to fall only to feel the rush of wind and splash of water when it fell sinking with her into the sea. With a breath on the way down, she rode the rail with legs bent around to hold herself in place as the water rushed up through her clothes. Discomforting but better then the alternative as it sank deeper and deeper. Her inky hands already dispersing into the waters, she watched the black stain the water around her palms as she fell making her hang her head in frustration.

By the time they were deep enough and the bell stopped, light was as dim as she expected, one could see the sun in the distance distorted by the waves but that was all it amounted to. Leaning down, she'd swim under the bell, the air bubble collected inside acting as their air supply, she'd take a breath before using her hand to begin smearing ink from her palm along the inside. Trying to draw on the interior of the bell with her clawed fingers. It was difficult with the ink seeping down her wrists from being wet, but when she finished, drawing a pair of lightbulbs on the interior, she would lightly tap both causing light to pour out of the drawing as if it were real to illuminate at least the area around their air pocket. "Ready?" She'd ask if Brutus was with her, if not she'd just flash a thumbs up now that they had a light to find their way back before looking down at the broken ship.

Brutus didn't have a snowball's chance in hell in finding purchase sitting on the bell, instead opted to hang on through sheer strength as it was lifted up and over, his legs dangling below the bell as he held on for dear life. Taking a deep breath before the drop, he found himself plunging downwards with the bell. He smashed into the water, and the force almost tore him from his grip and knocked the air from his gut.

Almost.

He found himself gripping the handle as they sank deeper and deeper, eyes straining to watch Milo and their surrounding as they sank. When the bell ceased its diving, he would scoop under alongside the fox woman, and eventually pop up alongside her right as she lit the chamber. He would take a deep breath, replenishing his lungs and taking a couple greedy breaths, doing his best not to overdo it. He'd heard stories of people hyperventilating, and that was the last thing he needed. The woman asked if he was ready, and he simply gave her a nod and thumbs up.

"Aye, I'm ready to get this show on the road." He would kick his feet idly and work his pyromancy to light his hands up ever so slightly. He was going to be a human torch, but the British kind.

Cycle 1
~Yar Har Fiddle Dee Dee~

Exploration Details

Let's do an average basic attack for salvage progress and 1d20 for an exploration event. When a creature dies, half of it's HP will be added to progress.

- 1-2 Monster Encounter!
- 3-10 Beast Encounter!
- 11-17 Nothing Unusual
- 18-20 Chance Encounter!

Mio nodded along when Brutus seemed ready to go, worried, she'd caution him again with bright laughter. "Just don't accidentally drown or anything okay? There should be pockets of air in the ship or plants with air in them nearby. It's not uncommon, just keep your eyes peeled." She'd try to remind him before using her clawed fingers to begin drawing on her own face. Trying to make simple goggles to protect her eyes as well as something resembling a rebreather-- It wouldn't stop her from drowning, but it would extend the time she'd need between air. Naturally if Brutus needed one, she'd draw one on his face as well. While the paint would feel like nothing, if he closed his mouth and tried to breath, he'd feel his own breath refilling his lungs recycling some of the air-- it didn't mean air wasn't a worry any more, but just lengthened the time needed between breaths.

When ready, she'd splash down from the diving bell, looking up at the large vessel outside of it. It was ghastly, a haunting blue with some radiant lights of magical equipment still glowing with life. Naturally it would be these things that drew the attention of monsters and critters curiously poking about. While things weren't looking the greatest, they at least had equipment thanks to Mio and muscle thanks to Brutus, it was a lot better then the other desperate teams looked at a glance.

Underwater Vibin

The giant pushed off from the bell with great force and sunk down, keeping his partner within his sight as he took a couple experimental breaststrokes with his hands. Moving through the water was slightly difficult, moreso awkward given his bulk, but he worked with it regardless. After a moment he would find a rhythm and would soon be able to keep up with his nimble companion. He made sure to keep his breathing steady, the rebreather would only do so much, helping him get through from air pocket to air pocket. He would slowly approach the ship, stopping by some of these air plants Mio had mentioned and taking test sips of air to make sure he was capable of using them when he really needed to.

Finally, at the base of the ship, he would begin to find various bits and bobs, nothing of exceptional note like gold doubloons or ancient mayan relics, but things of archeological interest that were quickly hoovered up into his UI.

So far, so good. He would turn to @Mio Ban , catch her attention, and give her a thumbs up.

Mio flashed a thumbs up back, looting was always something for her to be excited about despite the quietness. Things seemed quiet, no critters or monsters that might make the job difficult at least from a glance. Unfortunately that also meant that there wasn't much loot just yet. Baubles and trinkets, some things that likely fell out of rooms or off of the deck as opposed to anything of value that might've been locked down or away. The quiet nature of the trip made her somewhat concerned, if it was too safe, it meant the loot would be thin right?

She tried to approach the ship itself, the black ink from her tail and hands guiding her, rotating and pushing water as it wafted off of her limbs. She tried to begin prying off planks of the ship hull to create an entry point. Gesturing towards Brutus for help since she wasn't exactly the full power type who might be able to easily force her way through a wooden wall. At the very least though it might be easier to find things inside then lurking around the outskirts.

Underwater Spooked

Brutus would slowly slog through the water, doing his best not to hit the bottom and stir up any silt or sediment into a cloud. The last thing either of them needed was to have their visibility obstructed in an already perilous predicament. He scooped up a few more bits and bobs before making his way over to the fox woman, not wanting to ever truly be more than two or tree arm lengths away on the off chance something would go afoul and they needed to combine forces against something. Between the air pocket plants, or APPs as he would refer to them mentally, he was doing wonderfully on breath and was moderately surprised on how well this was going.

Famous last thoughts.

As he began to yank and heft some of the planks from the ship at his partners request, he noticed a shadow pass overhead. He would quickly tap @Mio Ban 's shoulder and point up, alerting her to whatever was coming.

Mio hesitated at first when tapped on the shoulder, likewise preparing herself for anything that might appear. However what appeared was a large shark-like creature. Though it bared an obvious resemblance to such a real life threat, it was clearly stylized and strengthened somehow to be more then just a basic sea creature. That made it's identity as an enemy all the clearer as it rushed towards Brutus. Striking a lucky blow immediately in the chaos of trying to catch the pair off guard it clamped down on the man for a bite before trying to give him a shake deepening the cuts and wounds as it attempted to thrash.

Alarmed, Mio almost let out the air in her mouth seeing it coming in but was stopped as a second seemed to be drawn by the scent of blood however faint. With two sharks attacking, she couldn't let both of them attack Brutus as she tried to step forward despite her small frame and delicate nature. Fortunately she didn't receive a bite and was instead almost tackled by the creature's large body, suffering the abrasions of it's rough stone-like skin.

Not being one to just receive an attack though she tried to strike back. At the end of the day they were just sea creatures, not meant to be real genuine monsters to be feared unless they were in high numbers. It was only two, so they should be able to handle it easily. Stretching one hand out, her ink spread through the water around her palm she tried to slap the creature as it passed her by. Despite being a simple slap though her hand seemed to pass right through, scraping flesh and meat from the creature's body without resistance as if she were just moving through normal water carving a giant gaping line into the creature's side making it flail.

Brutus grit his teeth as the creature took an attack at him, smashing into his side and pressing him into the boat. Thank god for the rebreather or the air would have been knocked right out of him and then he'd really be in trouble. He would retrieve his canon from his inventory, the water rushing out of place as it appeared. He would heft it, waiting for the shark to spin around and WHAM, brought the hammer down as hard as he could against the creatures snout. The water would fight him a bit in his swing, but the sheer heft of the canon helped bring it downwards.

He would turn over to his ally, watching as she seemed to work her own magic to hurt the shark. They would need to deal with these quickly before it got too out of hand.

The shark creatures continued to circle, getting more and more vicious as more blood seemed to fill the water. Though one seemed to get overzealous in the frenzy, it's eyes going red and even attacking it's fellow shark in the process. The savage attack striking from a blindside finishing off the shark that they had been attacking in the process-- Perhaps anti-climactic but the poor creature was clearly riled up and bloodthirstily attacking every weak link.

Of course more creatures still flooded in, circling Mio the creature burst forward taking a severe bite of her shoulder, but fortunately not getting much of a chance to thrash as they had on Brutus. The dead shark however no longer alive to strike merely drifted off lifelessly into the depths.

Mio struggled fiercely in an effort to deal with all of the movement and actions, grunting as she was tossed around by the Shark biting or brushing her. Fortunately the other shark didn't get a chance to come at her while she was flailing or she may have suffered a huge loss. Trying not to dwell on her own failures though she'd take a secondary sweep at the newest shark hoping to divert it's attention away so she could try to escape slightly, at least enough to check her wounds or at least take another breath of air. Unfortunately in her haste she didn't have much time to defend herself.
