After a long day of work, Hanno stumbled into the Pub Knight, carrying his shield that was in its mundane shape. Not because he didn't wish to receive weird stares, especially because by now everyone knew about his Ghast and how sometimes she decided to get out of the shield as a faerin girl, but mostly because ever since the Time Rewind has occurred, Ghast seemed to fall into a strange sickness.

Despite the worries, Hanno had no way to treat it, nor anyone else he knew, so he could only accept his loyal buddy's words that insisted she would be fine eventually.

"Never thought a dissonant being could get sick..." Hanno muttered, mostly to himself, before he would catch the sight of a familiar woman sitting by herself, one that brought a big smile to his lips as he approached.

"Hey there, pretty lady. I hope this seat is free for me to take?" Hanno said with a jestful tone, tugging the empty chair that was on @Vina Skysong's table and gesturing if he could seat, and if allowed, he would get on it, resting his shield aside as he stretched his rested his back on the chair and released a relieved sigh, wiggling his toes that were hidden in his boots.

"For Rhiannon, finally a break. Today was rough-" He said, leaning on the table and grinning at Vina. "Had a long day too?" Hanno asked, waving to try to catch the attention of a waiter or waitress, soon ordering a big mug and some meal, mostly portions of tasty things.

Vina was enjoying a drink by herself when she saw a familiar figure enter the tavern. She hadn't seen Hanno very often... in fact, she couldn't think of the last time she'd seen him outside of situations where shit was seriously going down, such as the assault on Vintergard. Of course, whenever such situations occurred the brave faerin was always in the midst of it: she couldn't really think of any other person, Lander or Traveler, who was as recurring a figure on the frontlines as the faerin knight.

She raised a hand as greeting even as Hanno approached her table, a bright smile on her face which turned into a playful smirk as he asked whether he could join her.

How could a mere squire resist the opportunity to be accompanied by a knight captain~? (She teased, her tail wagging behind her.) You're always welcome at my table Hanno~

While Hanno made himself comfortable in the chair Vina took another sip from her drink, leaning back in her chair as she watched the faerin. He did look like he'd been busy, so it made sense that he'd come here to get some rest. She sometimes wondered if it was healthy for people who also had to deal with life on Earth to take such heavy tasks upon themselves in Terrasphere as well. Not that she'd ever heard Hanno complain.

She shook her head in response to Hanno's question.

I'm still getting my bearings after everything that happened, so I haven't gotten around to working myself to exhaustion yet~ I'm guessing you've been setting a good example for everyone~? (She took a sip from her drink and continued.) Such dedication is what makes you a hero, but I'm glad you've decided to give yourself some rest as well~

Hanno slipped a small, sheepish chuckle when Vina mentioned the Knight Captain title. "I don't want special treatment for it, alright? We are still friends, so no formalities." He knew that Vina would most likely not do it, at least not in her more casual and easygoing nature. But he still wanted to let her know that he saw them on equal grounds, even if they were from different ranks in the faction. Besides, she was just teasing.

"Same for ya. Don't hesitate to say a hello and join me if you ever find me around." Hanno gestured with his hand to nowhere in particular, for emphasis.

Finally leaning on his chair, nearly melting on it as he relaxed, Hanno peeked at Vina, listening to her talking about what she has been up to while nodding understandingly. Her words brought another sheepish smile on his lips, but this one turned into a prouder and brighter grin soon after. "I wouldn't say not resting is a good example. But sometimes, you need to be a bad example to do the right thing." He shrugged.

"But I can afford to rest. Especially with a good company, drink and food-"

And almost as if the kitchen had listened to him, a waiter approached with his ale tankard, roasted potatoes, toasted breads, carrot and spinach salad, and some meat broth... Most of them coming in portions on platters and bowls.

"Nice, thank ya, buddy!" He smiled at the waiter, before looking back at Vina.

"And you, go ahead and have some of it if you want to!" Hanno beamed. "Today, drink and food is on me. A thanks for continuously saving my arse over and over... I didn't even have time to properly thank you for what you did too. Back then." He said, referring to the Szofrit battle.

Vina laughed softly as Hanno protested against her teasing him with his new position. Of course the playful druid wasn't going to start treating him differently because of it, but she did enjoy messing with people in a light-hearted fashion.

No formalities, got it~ That said, you earned your position through hard work, so there's nothing wrong with letting people reward you for your efforts~

Her look became more smouldering for a moment before she stuck out her tongue and laughed again. She quickly nodded as Hanno answered her invitation with one of his own, putting her drink on the table and leaning her elbows on the wooden surface while resting her chin on her hands.

I look forward to meeting up with you while we're not busy getting out of some disaster alive then. And I definitely agree that you should take the opportunity to rest when you can, but... well, sometimes people need a little extra motivation to get going, so you gotta give them a push before you can share the load with them~

Her smile widened as Hanno mentioned her being good company. Leaning back again she gave the waiter space to place Hanno's meal on the table, raising her eyebrows as it seemed that the faerin knight had ordered a whole feast for himself.

You weren't lying about the good drink and food either. (She tilted her head.) Saving your ass? Well, I guess I did, but that goes both ways I think~ But if you'll let me, don't mind if I do~

By Vina's normal schedule it'd be a bit longer before mealtime, but it wasn't like she followed that schedule religiously. And it would be impolite to decline Hanno's offer, so the vixen took a bowl of the carrot and spinach salad.

Every time we've got some big problem on our hands you show up and run out in front to keep us all alive. I'm just returning the favour~ It'd be more than a little cruel if we let you take on such a burden all by yourself.

Vina wasn't heroic like Hanno: she didn't use her own body to protect others, at least not if she could avoid it. But she had her own role she could play, and she wanted to make sure her friend knew that he shouldn't consider what she did special, or more deserving of gratitude than what he himself did time and time again.

"Yes, no formalities." He reaffirmed, hoping that Vina would understand... And probably, she not only understood, but preferred it that way. She hardly struck as someone that wanted to be stiffened by unnecessary fancy approaches to someone. Not when she was so quick to get close to almost anyone. "But if you insist on rewarding me that much... I guess I will start inviting you out." He winked, taking a sip of his drink and letting out a brief sigh along with a grin.

"You can bet it. Just let the dust settle and I have a handful of places to show you, if you want." Hanno said, swirling his tankard and once again taking a gulp of it while listening to Vina's words.

He looked between her food then Vina, showing a mischievous smirk when she commented about the food, shrugging a bit. "You could say I'm a bit of a glutton." Hanno said, then bending on the table, taking a bread and dipping it on the broth twice before taking a bite out of it, swallowing before adding- "It does go both ways, yeah! So feel welcomed to help whenever."

Hanno then paused, already taking another bite, this time of the potato and half nodding at her words.

"And I can only do that, thanks to those that keep me alive."
Hanno said. "I am happy for making sure you guys can have time to go away if things go south." Which was honestly the only part he considered a 'sacrifice' on his role.

"... But essentially what I mean is... Thanks for being there for us. And well, for me." Hanno smiled. "If it wasn't for you, I would probably not be seeing my UI any longer. A long while ago."

Vina grinned as Hanno took her up on her offer. Spending more time with her friends was always a blessing, and it looked like Hanno understood that. The whole talk about rewards was just her being playful: what was important was that the two of them were having fun together.

I'll gladly take you up on those invitations. It's a lot more fun going out together with your friends, isn't it~? I look forward to seeing what kind of places you want to show me~

In the current situation it would be difficult for both of them to just leave on an adventure: there were a lot of things to take care of at the moment, to help everyone bounce back from what had happened. But Vina wasn't so dutiful that she wanted to spend months on end working hard, so she'd probably end up bugging Hanno before then.

Is that part of being a faerin or is that a Hanno thing?

Watching Hanno enjoy such a generous meal made her curious. From what she knew faerin had interesting dietary requirements, but she couldn't remember if they also required more food than usual or not. She took a mouthful of the salad, enjoying the fresh taste as Hanno spoke again. Swallowing the vegetarian dish she smiled.

Don't worry, I'll do my best to help whenever I can. I wouldn't want to see you get hurt~

A simple statement, but one of the most true statements Vina could make. She didn't like people getting hurt. Every argument around it was just fluff.

Which is also why she frowned when Hanno phrased his actions as buying the rest of them time to retreat. It was true, but she didn't like the sound of it, like he was just a disposable pawn.

However, she doubted he was actually that dismissive of himself: it just meant he cared that much about making sure others were safe, in the same way she cared. In that sense they were very similar, even if their approach was radically different. The vixen's smile returned as she took a sip from her drink before replying.

I'm happy to help Hanno~ And the same goes for you: thank you for always doing your best for everyone. (Her expression was a bit more tender than usual.) Of course, you might sometimes need a reminder to look after yourself as well, but I'm not joking when I call you a hero. You've saved a lot of people, myself included.

And of course, lest you think I don't care, thank you for being a good friend. We might not spend a lot of time together, but I enjoy your company whenever we get the chance to~

(Grabbing her glass she raised it.)

On that note, shall we have a toast~? (She tilted her head.) On good friends, and helping each other face the future in good health and high spirits~

"It sure hella is much better. You can sure look forward it." Hanno thumbed up with a smirk, ready to show Vina every cool and beautiful landscape he had in mind, at least as soon as they would have time to do it without having to worry about what is happening all around Terrasphere.

Her following question, however, caught him off guard, and he couldn't help but chuckle at it. "I am not a faerin in real life, and I'm a glutton in there too, so..." He shrugged. "But all that being a faerin is making me do, is eating raw magical meat. But that's easy to overcome, I just take any magical meat and imbue some magic in it."

If anything, it was much better than having to deal with hunting magical beasts every time his hungry meter went funky with the Original Sin.

At her caring words, Hanno couldn't help but smile, giving a brief nod and sipping on his drink, pausing only for him to listen to her speech, one that also showed her care, and with grateful words and a confession he didn't expect, but fitting from someone as sweet as Vina.

"Of course. I will always find a way to rest. Especially now that I got free pass to invite you around." He smiled, taking his glass and raising it closer to Vina's.

"A toast on good friends, helping each other face the future in good health and high spirits, and fox girls are the best." The last bit was delived with a jestful grin, before he allowed the glasses to gently touch, making a 'clink' before he gave it a good and nice chug, making him slip a long sigh.

Vina chuckled as well as Hanno admitted that his gluttonous nature had nothing to do with the faerin race, but rather with himself.

So it is a Hanno thing~ A healthy appetite is good, as long as you make sure to exercise as well. Not that I have to tell you that~

The fact that faerin had to eat magical meat was still a curious thing, but maybe not the best topic for their meal together. What little she knew about faerin suggested that it was a topic which could quickly become rather sensitive, and she just wanted to enjoy Hanno's company.

I imagine that I could do that as well if needed, even if I've never tried it. I'm more familiar with putting magic inside of all that grows and blooms~

Her smile widened as Hanno accepted her words without hesitation, although she couldn't hold back a smirk as he implied that spending time with her guaranteed that he'd have the opportunity to rest. Her tail swished behind her as there was a playful glimmer in her eyes.

I'll make sure to give you plenty of time to rest between the fun then~

Hanno's addition to the toast made her laugh, the playful vixen holding off from drinking until she had her breathing under control again. Once she did she took a long gulp herself before nodding and winking, holding up a finger with her free hand.

I'm glad you agree Hanno~ Of course, everyone else is also great, but I think I'd be able to provide some strong arguments for why vixens are the best given the opportunity~

Placing her glass down she rested her elbows on the table again, weaving her fingers together so she could rest her chin on them while smiling at Hanno.

But that does make me curious: what do you like to do in your spare time? Even the most valiant of knights still has time off and ways to spend it~

Going by his words exploring interesting locations together with friends was on the list, but she'd take every opportunity to learn more about her friend. After all, the better you knew your friends, the stronger the bond between you.

Hanno laughed at her words, nodding eagerly. "You know, outside of this place, when I was younger, I was very chubby. It took a bit for me to start doing exercises, so I guess I'm the living example of your advice." He said, with a bit of grin on his lips, as he paused to ponder about her following words, something that made him a bit curious.

"I do wonder if you placed the magic on the meat, if it would taste differently. But... I guess that's a weird thought to have?" He frowned at himself, now that he had worded it outloud, but he quickly hummed, averting his attention to the good topic again. "I'm counting on you." Hanno nodded, regarding resting and the fun.

"And what are your arguments, generally?" Hanno smirked, wishing to know, but not before he decided to respond her questions-

"Well, I like to cook. Especially in Terrasphere, that has some unique ingredients that we don't have on real life. I like adventuring as well, finding new places is cool, and it does help me to know a bit more about the secrets of the game... And well... Having fun in general. Hanging out, and stuff." Hanno said, rubbing his chin as he considered... and slowly noticed that he didn't have any specific thing like liked to do, mostly going with the flow.

Vina smirked as Hanno admitted that he used to be a bit chubby. Of course, his Earth self wouldn't look the same, but the idea of the faerin knight being almost as wide as he was tall still made her chuckle, even if it was a fake image.

I'm lucky that I've always had an active metabolism, or I might have gone through that as well~ Luckily there's lots of fun ways to work out, even if this place isn't one of them. (She sighed.) Imagine if it was! I'm pretty sure none of our friends would ever have to worry about their weight ever again~

How would different types of magic affect the taste of meat? It was certainly an unusual question, making the druidess's mind wander for a moment before she snapped back to the present. Placing one hand against the table she silently pushed some of her magic into the wooden surface. A minuscule but undeniable shiver travelled through the piece of furniture before it settled down, the druidess taking her hand away as she shook her head.

It's not a strange thought~ As a faerin you eat magical meat, so you'd start wondering what different kinds of magical meat would taste like. Makes perfect sense to me, especially if you also like cooking~ It'd be stranger if you weren't interested in trying out different ingredients~

Hanno's list of favourite pastimes was short but to the point, Vina nodding along as the knight answered her question.

Sounds like what really interests you is new experiences, whether it's new places or new tastes~ You probably would've liked the Explorers League. I don't cook a lot, but I do also really like going on adventurers and exploring beautiful places, even if I hope that there's nothing too dangerous there~

She hadn't answered Hanno's question yet, but her smile became a bit more mischievous as she managed to sneak her tail under the table and reach far enough to brush it against one of the faerin's legs.

As for my arguments... I have plenty~ The tail is one, of course: neither cats nor wolves can claim to have such a luxurious tail as mine~ But my strongest arguments... (She pulled the tail back.) I'd love to present them, but there's a time and a place for them, and I don't think it's either here or now~

Taking another bite from the salad Hanno had so generously offered she continued as if she'd said nothing strange. Her ears twitched as around them the tavern was slowly becoming more lively, more customers stepping through the front door as the day aged and slowly people managed to free themselves from the shackles of productivity.

As for me, I like to perform~ Music, dancing, singing, as long as I can brighten people's days by baring my soul I'm a happy vixen~

Hanno laughed at the idea. "Maaan, old me would've loved it for sure. Now a days it kinda doesn't matter, my body is all fine now." He said, confident of it. Granted he was a bit slender still, even with all the workout. He surely couldn't complain about strength though, that while wasn't herculean like the one he had in game, it was sure nothing to laugh about.

His smile then tugged by the side of his lips, and he nodded in agreement. "Yeah, maybe I'm overthinking. I mean, it isn't every day you can eat magical meat. You should try it someday." Hanno suggested, albeit not raw. His expressions then perked up, with his pointy ears twitching. "The Explorers League looks really cool. I'd love to join them, but well. Lions Pride gives me more room to help people out." He said.

"That doesn't stop me from exploring though... And seeing that you like doing that stuff... I mean. Nothing stops us from doing it together, if you ever want to, right?" Hanno grinned.

The grin, however, faded as he felt a chill running from his leg and spreading all the way through his body, making he look at Vina with a faint chuckle, and a brief flush on his cheeks. "Y-Yeah, I mean. Fluffy tails are really good." He nodded. "As for other arguments... Yeah. Probably there are better occasions, if you ever want to talk more about it." Hanno nodded, pausing as he listened to her own preferences, with the reasoning behind them making a warm smile cross his lips.

"That sounds great. And really noble too." He pointed out.

"You know, I wish I knew that before, when I first joined Terrasphere. But being a hero, and saving people, goes far beyond facing the danger and fighting gigantic abominations that threaten the world." Hanno said. "These more... Mundane things. Putting a smile on someone's face, telling them something that makes their day, or singing them a song that will stick with them for a week... These small actions make all the difference. And perhaps they are just as heroic as rescuing someone from a building on fire, or something like that."

Well, I'm guessing that the moment we hear that there's trouble in Astorea we'd both immediately want to head back, but aside from that it's true that there's nothing stopping us from heading out together~

Vina was hedonistic enough that she was willing to shirk her responsibilities and head out with a friend to go exploring without feeling guilty about it, but she was also altruistic enough that if she was told that people really needed her help she'd still put that above her own entertainment. Living a life of fun and pleasure while also being empathic and caring could be a hassle, but Vina would much rather deal with the hassle than abandon either aspect of herself. Especially since she didn't even know how one could just stop caring.

Hanno's response was as she expected, his shiver making her smile widen. However, his next words were more than she expected, but she happily accepted them, nodding eagerly even as her smirk made it clear she had interpreted Hanno's words exactly as she wanted to.

I'd love to present my arguments to you Hanno~ I'm sure you'll find them very persuasive, almost as persuasive as my tail~

Whether they'd ever find an occasion for Vina to present her arguments was another matter, but the faerin knight had at the very least given Vina an invitation, intentionally or unintentionally.

By this point Vina had eaten more than half of the salad, the vixen more or less claiming the vegan dish for herself. Given that Hanno had an abundance of other dishes to satiate himself with she figured that it was a fair way to accept his offer to share his food. This gave her something to do as Hanno made her desire to share and experience pleasure sound like a much more virtuous activity, leaving the vixen shaking her head at the end.

I'm happy when I can spread happiness, but I think it's a bit much to call it heroism. I just enjoy having fun, and the best fun is had together with others, you know~?

She glanced towards the other patrons who had slowly been filling up the bar. Most of them were tired from a day's work, eating and drinking to refuel themselves. Some were together with friends, many were alone, although here in the tavern there was nothing stopping acquaintances and even strangers from approaching one another. The pub was becoming lively, something which made Vina feel quite content.

I don't disagree that it's a good thing to spread the cheer and chase away the sorrow though~ Life is to be enjoyed, and I'll happily remind people of that and help them do just that~ But heroism should be reserved for someone who changes the lives of others, either by saving them or leading the way to a better future.

I guess you could call what I do noble, if it wasn't for the fact that I always make sure I get my fair share of joy out of it as well~

Hanno nodded firmly at the idea, certainly ready to march back to Astorea as soon as they needed them. "Or anywhere that needs our help, honestly. I want a safe world for everyone." Which included the landers that were unfortunately against them, not only now, but even in the past. However, he knew this ill feeling didn't extend to all landers, and many of them weren't ones that held prejudice.

As the hints of the 'argument' of fox girls came, however, Hanno's cheeks flushed a bit, and he rubbed the back of his neck while peering at Vina. "It already looked fairly persuasive, being honest." He admitted with a sheepish smile to the vixen. He would be lying if he didn't say he has always found her very charming.

Regarding the music and spreading the happiness, Hanno couldn't entirely agree that it wasn't heroic in its own way. But he also understood where Vina came from. Part of her wanted to take it as something carefree, and placing a burden of heroism over it wouldn't allow her to continue with it with the same ease and gentleness she would usually do.

It would change it, in a way it wouldn't be beneficial.

A small smile crossed his lips, and he simply nodded. "I understand what you mean." He said, finishing his drink and keeping a gaze on her. "I hope you never change then. It is a really good part of you. And honestly, people love it, I even hear some squires and knights talking about you sometimes." Hanno revealed, with a small chuckle.

Agreed~ I wouldn't ignore a call for help just because it came from Falderen instead~ (She let out a small relieved sigh.) I'm glad that right now it looks like everything's quieted down a little. Not that there's not still plenty of help to offer, but at least we no longer have to worry about a corrupted motherboard threatening to overrun Astorea.

Restoration was a lot of work in and of itself, and the new hostility from Falderen towards the Starcalled was troubling, but it was still better than a seemingly endless war against sapient machines.

Which reminded Vina of when they managed to "defeat" Szofrit. She'd only heard afterwards about the plans to contain the Mother of Machines and figure out what was wrong with her: in the moment she'd done her best to help those who wished to defeat Szofrit without killing her purely because when there existed an option to not kill she always preferred that over the alternative.

Enough time that I should have plenty of opportunity to present my arguments~

Seeing that Hanno was both interested and a bit embarrassed was a much more enjoyable thing to focus on than thoughts of the fight against the magia. The faerin's flustered look made Vina laugh softly, before the topic shifted towards... the nature of heroism and whether Vina's actions fell within that category.

Luckily Hanno understood what the vixen meant. Her actions were definitely motivated by good intentions, but she'd rather not present herself as some kind of larger-than-life figure who bravely forged a path for others to follow. She was also pretty sure that if she had to play such a role she'd lose some of the cheerfulness and energy that allowed her to be so effective at making other people happy.

A louder laugh escaped her when Hanno admitted that he'd stories about her from other members of the Lions Pride. Taking another bite from the salad she savoured the taste, giving her friend a look through half-lidded eyes as she smiled... well, there was no malice there, but a kind of mischievous amusement that might still make alarms ring.

Thank you Hanno~ And I hope the stories they tell are worth listening to~

Leaning back she took the last gulp from her glass, checking whether it was truly empty before setting it down. The two of them were getting some looks from the other patrons from time to time, Hanno because he was quite the well-known figure as knight captain of the Lions Pride, and Vina because her clothes kind of asked for it.

Haah~ As long as you keep being the hero we can all be inspired by and admire I'll do my best to back you up and remind you what it's all for~ Although I will have to train a bit more so I can do a better job of that~

Hanno gave a small smile for Vina and her shared sentiment that they needed to help everyone, rather than favoring one or another. "You know, you are probably the most optimistic person that I know." He said, meaning it truthfully. Even he, that tried to silverline things, didn't take a lot of good things from what had happened recently.

The fight against the robot mother was a disaster in his eyes, since it didn't stop the countless deaths from happening and the whole political conflict they held now.

A more sheepish smile covered his lips after the more embarrassing topic slipped again, but he responded with a simple nod, only for his cheeks to grow a bit rosier and his smile to grow warmer at her hearty laughter. Yeah, nothing made him happier than people enjoying themselves.

"I'd say they are worth it. Something about some knights having to make squires do extra push-ups because they are being distracted by a certain practice mate." He chuckled, but then, he added: "And of course, some that had their lives saved for this same mate, that sure knows how to bring a life back to them before it is too late."

It was easy and simple. Those that couldn't be protected from the worse by the vanguard, were saved by those like Vina, who took care of them. It was a fail-proof machine, with responses for every obstacle.

"Honestly, I was wondering. Why don't we have some practice once in a while? I don't have many magic users to practice with, and well. I would like bringing you to some missions, if you wouldn't mind." How Vina was just a squire instead of a knight while being so competent was abit uncertain to him. So perhaps it was better for her to start working on it- before another faction snatched her away.

He glanced at the nearly ending potato portion, taking a bite of another before taking a bread in as well, focusing a bit on eating more as he listened for the vixen's response.

There's no point in lingering on the bad things, is there? I don't mean that we should forget or ignore them, but if we only bemoan what went wrong we're just discouraging ourselves~ (She shook her head.) Better to keep looking forward and take our victories with us~

As an entertainer and performer she understood the importance of creating the right atmosphere. Doom and gloom brought people's spirits down and prevented them from trying their best. Instead she'd do her best to share her optimism with everyone else, so even in the darkest of times they could all aim for a better future.

Hanno's elaboration on what kind of stories the Lions had about Vina made the vixen laugh, openly amused at the thought that her fellow squires were getting distracted by her.

And here I am only trying to encourage them to try their best~ Maybe I should offer rewards to those who do well during training~ (The tip of her tongue moved between her lips before she smiled.) I'm just doing my part, although I do hope that after the first time they learn to be a bit more careful the second~

She finished her salad as the faerin knight explained his intentions of training with her and bringing her along on missions. The vixen had no objections to either, although she imagined that Hanno's training was a lot more intense than anything she'd dealt with so far. Truthfully she relied more on what came naturally to her than what she had to earn through sweat and tears.

Some practice would be good, and if you've got some quests in mind where I'd be useful I'd be happy to come along~ Hmmm...~ (She licked her fingers clean before continuing.) Maybe I should get a bird friend who can relay messages. It'd make communicating over long distances a lot easier~

A bit of a random thought, but if Hanno wanted to bring her along on journeys having better methods to communicate would help a lot. For now, however, the songstress looked at the clear absence of salad before leaning back in her seat.

Thank you for the meal~ I'll have to pay you back sometime~
