Light suddenly filled the room as the raven suddenly disappeared, leaving nothing behind to indicate they ever existed in the first place. Nothing, save the corpse of a monster lying on the floor, with a gaping hole in it's chest. "We did it," Lune said, patting the taller man on the back before approaching the monster's body.

The sound of glass echoed again as the bow disappeared, a spear replacing it. Lune paused before approaching the body, but apparently deciding that it was indeed dead, continued on after a moment. Ansaldo wasn't nearly as convinced. Who knew in this world of monsters and magic?

Ansaldo stood nearby, poised to impale the corpse again if it so much as twitched. Satisfied though when Lune knelt down and plucked a strange gem from the creature's large eye on it's forehead, the man let the spear disperse. "What is that?" the man asked, his voice swinging to a high point as he expressed his curiousity.

"What is that?"

The woman tried to pour a bit of magic, and the ruby responded by glowing a little. So far, no negative effect. "A magical artifact, probably the one giving this creature power, or even the one responsible for mutating it." If her hunch was right, Yugam might be able to pinpoint what kind of magic this artifact was bolstering.

The ravens were certainly not an illusion, so were those part of the dark creature itself? "I've never seen anything like this winged, raven-like beast before. Its form was most likely not natural." She stored the artifact in her pouch, before inspecting the unmoving corpse of the monster.

Lune then lifted and carried the whole body on her shoulders, displaying incredible strength. "Anyway, I'm bringing this jewel back to the Guild, and the body too, for more investigation," Lying about these kinds of things had become very natural to her. They discovered what caused the massive number of ravens flocking to the windmill, but not why.

Someone was behind this, and it was not the unfortunate mutated monstrosity that they just fought. But now that they looked around and the interior of the windmill itself was back to normal, with their platform that was supposed to be over a hundred feet high being only on the second floor at best, she turned to the man.

"Right. What are you gonna do now, Aldo?"

The gem glowed faintly as Lune held it, the pulsating light thrumming along to some unheard beat. "A magical artifact," Lune explained, "probably the one giving this creature power, or even the one responsible for mutating it."
"Is it dangerous?"
Ansaldo asked then, wondering what kind of effects it might have on Lune, or what other secrets it might hold. Ansaldo hadn't seen anything like it before, nor a creature that had been mutated like the Raven.

Lune began to inspect the creature's corpse, stating she hadn't seen anything of its kind before either, before hoisting it up onto her shoulder. "Anyway, I'm bringing this jewel back to the Guild, and the body too, for more investigation."
"The MIT might be of more help,"
the man commented noncommittally. She could do what she liked with the body and the gem. It was of no matter to him. The gold rewarded for investigating the lighthouse was enough for the man to enjoy himself another night.

"Right. What are you gonna do now, Aldo?"
The man looked to the side, out the lone window here at the top of the lighthouse. "I'm going to enjoy the view." The man went over to the window and pushed it open before climbing out onto the roof. A lone windmill in the middle of a grassy valley, otherwise undisturbed by civilization. He would be hard pressed to find a place like this in the real world.

Laying back against the shingles of the roof, the man pulled his hands behind his head and breathed deeply, feeling the cool, fresh, sadly virtual air fill his unfortunately digital lungs. Yeah. This was nice.

"Is it dangerous?"

"In the wrong hands, yes."
She implied that her hands, indeed, were not the wrong ones. "Imagine more of this thing." Lune motioned toward the lifeless body of the Raven.

"The MIT might be of more help,"

"I'll take a handsome reward any day," The woman jokingly scoffed at the fact that other than the Adventurers' Guild, working for the other factions might as well be charity work. Not that she was going to get any money for the monster's body and the artifact, though, after all she was going to let Yugam analyze those and report back this incident as a minor anomaly.

"I'm going to enjoy the view."

Ansaldo climbed out of the window, as the sunset light filled the previously-dark attic of the windmill.

Lune floated with the dead monster's body hovering beside her, revealing that she didn't need to actually climb the ladders manually, before gently landing on the rooftop itself. "You really like the virtual view, huh," she commented, crossing her arms. "It is indeed beautiful."

Weeks ago, the landscape of Vikform would be filled with a golden field full of wheat. Now that the reaping season was coming to a close, the village was less lively, preparing for the cold winter.

"In the wrong hands, yes," Lune answered Ansaldo's question, gesturing towards the monster's corpse on the ground, hand waving over the gaping hole in it's chest. "Imagine more of this thing."
"I'd rather not,"
Ansaldo replied, his face scrunched together in disgust. Everything in Arcia, covered in the murk-black wings of ravens, unkindnesses so large and hostile that even cracking a window open was tantamount to inviting death into your halls. Not a pleasant thought.

The man had shrugged though when Lune had stated a reward over more knowledge was preferable. He didn't necessarily disagree. It was doubtful that learning anything about the creature would be able to net the woman any kind of reward, although that did bring to mind one thing..."I better get a cut of that reward," Ansaldo said, looking over at the corpse again. "I did do half the work after all."

"You really like the virtual view, huh,"
Lune commented as Ansaldo leaned back agains the roofing and made himself comfortable. "It is indeed beautiful."
"Can't find anything like this where I live,"
Ansaldo explained, closing his eyes to feel the warm sun on his skin. "It's all city, smog and traffic where I live. You'd have to take a plane over to Europe to find a place like this in the real world. But this is almost as good, without the hassle."

"I better get a cut of that reward,"

"Yeah, why not."
After sighing, she opened her palm UI, pressing it a few times until a notification appeared in the corner of Ansaldo's view; a friend request from Lune. "I'll contact you for your cut. May take a while."

"Trust me, I know about it pretty well," She shook her head, feeling the warm sunlight touching her cold skin. The woman leered towards the man with the corner of her eyes, "The question being, is the view worth all the risk?" It was more of a rhetorical question rather than anything else. She then closed her eyes, before slowly walking onto the edge, stepping off, and floating slowly downwards.

"Gotta go before it's dark,"
Lune nodded to the man, before waving at him. "Nice to meet you, Ansaldo."

A small notification appeared in the corner of Ansaldo's vision, a white box with some text and buttons. A friend request. A quick jab of his finger, and Ansaldo added Lune as a friend, all the easier to contact her later, should the need arise.

"The question being, is the view worth all the risk?"
Ansaldo shrugged in response. "It's not like the view was the goal," the man pointed out, opening his eyes and turning to look and point towards the window the two had just crawled out of. "We already killed the beastie, consider the view a bonus." It wasn't exactly like Ansaldo was going around killing dangerous monsters just to take in a nice view. He wasn't reckless, nor was he insane. All the same, it would've been a shame to pass up a quiet moment in grassy fields.

"Gotta go before it's dark," Lune said after a while, waving towards him in farewell. Ansaldo nodded and waved back. "Good meeting you, Lune," he replied, "And if you ever want help on another job, let me know. Always looking for some more work."
