Complete Comms Challenge Once Upon a Whistle

Communication thread for the Once Upon A Whistle challenge.

Lune just sighed at @Luthien's passive-aggressive remark, not having any energy to start any fight or some kind of that before the expedition even started.

"Likewise, really glad to see you too. And him, and her."

"Thanks for taking care of it for me."

Once he took hold of the gun, her hand rested idle next to her once again, giving Yugam a slight nod. She might not be the best shot, but taking proper care of one's equipment is part of the fundamentals she had grown used to as part of her daily routine in Terrasphere. Specially someone else's

"Y-Yeah..."

Her response is short and awkward as a faint glance is given to the greenette, before the elf turns back to @Lune. It's been a while since they've last talked... if their little skirmish within Dee's dreamscape could be considered as such.

"Sooo... rocks, huh?" a curious glance is given to the now slightly taller woman. "Didn't think you'd get caught up in Diego's 'geologist for a day' pitch."

When @Mizuki comes to a suden halt the blonde can't help but wince in response. She would've liked to have enough time to run this comm method through those in the group that hadn't experienced it before, but not much that could be done about it now. { Sorry. } The caenis' packmates join her for a few moments, and the frown on the wilding's face doesn't go unnoticed by her sharp eyes.

{ You can go further, but I won't be able to stay in touch if you do. } With Mizuki's mobility it was unrealistic to expect her and her wolves to stay close at all times. { Whenever you're back in range though we can share info or dangers— }

The telepathic words come to a sudden stop as a wave of anger suddenly washes over her mind, causing the ranger to stop on her tracks as a hand rubs her temple to try and alleviate the sudden pressure. She doesn't need to look back to figure out @Fiora Di Angelo the source of it, taking a moment to blot it out to the best of her abilities before resuming her pace.

"I'm just curious if the moonstones have beneficial magical properties,"

She dismissed the accusation, before motioning at @Luthien.

"And I know a certain would be here. Anyway, we're arriving at the village."

Lune looked around as Diego mentioned that they need a stall to hold their horses (heh) during their climb to the Ascent.

"Let's see if that large Caenis guy is willing to keep our horses. He doesn't look so intimidated by us."

 

[Ueno Mizuki]

Just don't do anything threatening or suspicious and we should be fine.

She looked towards the shrine.

It might be a good idea to pray to Uene and tell her in advance that we want to take some of her stones. She's known for being territorial, so appeasing her now could spare us some misfortune later.

If that was an actual complication, the many explorers who got these same stones would have said anything about it, including our guide and the few explorers in this group.

These were superstitions and nothing more, but it's a fact for Fiora that Gods were and would always be selfish beings with no needs. Only wants. And poking one right now would be the real misfortune for their road.

Summon them at your own risk.

Maybe they wouldn't be known as Death's Torchbearers if they paid more attention to these kinds of things.

"True, there's a lot about this game we don't know yet... maybe we'll stumble onto a rare vein."

She can't help the faint relief that washes over as their smalltalk progresses, and while she's still uncertain as to where they stand with one another the awkwardness that clings to their interactions is preferable over the radio silence that @Fiora has been giving her for a while now.

The mention of Uene’s shrine catches her attention as the small party reaches the village and, after a short exchange between the wildling and the knightess, the ranger decides to approach @Mizuki and her packmates.

"Mind if I tag along with you?" She reaches out to the wolf that recognized her before, softly scratching them behind the ears. "I’ve never visited one of her shrines before."

@Lune

"Not so intimidated? That guy is wagging his tail, he is totally asking for a petting. I bet if you do it enough, he will show you his belly. Well, he kinda already is, with those clothes." Diego gestured, then glancing at the giant rams. "Hehe, those big cuties too~"

He looked at the animals with a dreamy expression, before blinking and glancing at @Fiora Di Angelo and @Ueno Mizuki.

"Hey! I pray a lot, okay? We aren't death torchbearers because of that." He puffed his cheeks. "It is just that the gods tell us to be careful... And we don't." He stuck a tongue out.

Diego then turned to @Luthien.

"You totally should. I've sneaked into some Uene Shrine ruins a while ago, and..." He grinned. "Well. It was dusty and I nearly died, but it was pretty cool!"

 

[Luthien]

"Uene ruins…?" There’s a spark of intrigue in her eyes, though she knows now isn’t the time or place for it—especially when @Diego seems so eager to accompany @Lune towards the stalls. "You’ll have to tell me more about them later"

She watches as @Fiora spares a few words for the hunter before the greenette is off on her own once more, a faint sigh leaving her lips before she turns her attention to @Yugam.

"Wanna check out the shrine with us then, Yuu?"

 

[Lune]

Cycle 1

"Yes, but I'm not going to pet him. Also, stop petting the ram, Diego."

Hearing about the man's request, Lune sighed. They already have a lot on their plate already, if possible she would just give him coins and be done with it, but he might not want to accept it.

"Fine. Yes, we're going to the Ascent. What do you need help with?"

Cycle 1 - Scenario

"Tch- such a kill joy"

Diego pouted a bit, crossing his arms and sneakily trying to pat the side of the giant ram, retaliated with a fierce bite, that this time connected and made him flinch.

"Ow ow ow!"

Another burst of hearty laugher escaped from the large caenis, that slapped the boy's back, nearly sending the boy straight to the ground with the impact.

"Be careful, me and the sweetie over here warned you, kiddo. Next time, you will lose your fingers."

He then focused on @Lune, smirking.

"Let's say it isn't exactly me that needs help, but rather... A friend? A guy? Well, he is my friend, he just doesn't know or agree with it yet."

The man rubbed his chin.

"He is a bit of a night wolf of the sorts, the one that bites, but doesn't like biting to prove a point. So he came here trying to stay away from his moon friends, but he is kinda new around here and people don't like or trust him that much. A shame, I tell you."

He sighed, slipping his hands into his robes, as if he was about to take something out of it.

"... But you see, I've heard that his friends are trying to get him back. And he has been far more distant than the usual, I haven't seen him in a couple days now, so... If you can find him there, and give him something I want him to keep, just for the sake of his safety... It would be good. What do you think?"

He then pulled what it seemed to be a small protection talisman, waving it in front of the two outsiders.

Catching @Ueno Mizuki's attention, the man approached.

"An eye golden like the sunshine, and another blue like the moonlight..."

Some finally seemed to see the trait, that had passed unnoticed since they barely tried to lock their eyes on hers.

"You match her description... You are the wandering Moon Fang? One, that along with some Astoreans, kept the Chieftain's son safe?"

Sensible ears of passersby twitched, and whispers could be exchanged. It wasn't hard for Mizuki to listen the surprise in the quiet voices: 'Is it really her?' 'She looks just like them though.' 'There are outsiders with her, so...'

Mizuki blinked at the description. Under different circumstances she might have thought the man was flirting. Although the question that followed after was, in a way, even more surprising.

The chieftain's son?

Her mind went back to when she helped Haito reunite with his family, even as her ears picked up the sound of yet more whispering.

I helped escort Haito back to the Sirosi-kotan, yes. Is that common knowledge?

"Yes. But... It was hard to believe, that one of you would actually go through such length."

The man said, with a small smile forming on his lips.

"Maybe a future where we can live with our cousins in peace isn't an impossible one."

"You are being too dreamy. She is just an exception..."

A skeptical Sun Claw interrupted.

"Just an exception? Like that other Moon Fang? That's a lot of exceptions to me."

He questioned, and the whispering resumed once again, though they were more positive than questioning this time.

"Exception after exception, soon it will be a rule."

The man said, optimistically, then turning to @Ueno Mizuki.

"We are grateful for your help. Despite our differences, please, feel yourself at home."

 

[Lune]

Cycle 1

As karma finally bit Diego on his hand, Lune couldn't help but just shake her head in disbelief while giving the disappointed parent face.

"Why are you so difficult?"

The woman was entertained by the way the caenis guy went around to describe his Moon Fang friend. Like how people looked at Mizuki, looks like the people in this village haven't accepted him yet.

"Ah, his unpleasant friends, I suppose."

Lune nodded, deep in thought. Best case, they stumble on him somewhere around the Ascent. Worst case, there would be combat. Not that any combat would be problematic, since the people around her could literally take over a small nation if they want to.

"We'll see if we can find him there, and give him the talisman. We'll report back when we get back here."

In the end, she agreed to it, her hand reaching for the talisman.

[Ueno Mizuki]

Cycle 1

Hrmmm... I guess it would be.

Moon Fang and Sun Claw didn't get along in the slightest. From the perspective of the Sun Claw it probably would've been more likely for Mizuki to kill the boy than to help him.

However, it quickly became apparent that this male at least wanted this to be a sign that there was hope for reconciliation between the two tribes. As the female pointed out that he was being optimistic Mizuki frowned.

As invested as she was in becoming an adopted Moon Fang herself, she didn't think it a good idea for them to treat her as an example.

It might not be impossible, but you shouldn't base your expectations of other Moon Fang on me.

Another thing they said did make her curious, and while she did relax as the Sun Claws of the village appeared to become quite a bit less nervous about her presence she couldn't hide her curiosity.

There's another Moon Fang here?

Cycle 1 - Scenario

"Ugh... I'm not difficult, I just wanted to pet it..."

Diego sniffed, rubbing his hand with teary eyes.

"Hah, come on, don't cry. Here, this one is more docile."

The man snapped his fingers, calling for another giant ram, this one looking very sleepy and calm.

"Oh! Ehe~"

As if healed by a miracle, he suddenly beamed with joy, sinking his hands into the fluff of the ram.

"Good grief... I wouldn't say they are unpleasant per se, they just really like fighting, and blood, and biting you. That's cool, honestly, I like some sparring my self. But forcing it on others is a bit boring... Which is why this friend of mine fled from home anyway."

The man handed the talisman to @Lune, that made Diego peek in to look at it.

"He never trusted me his name, but he is like... White haired, blue eyes, about this tall-" He gestured to about his shoulder height. "And he will probably be like, 'huff', 'hmph', 'mm', 'tsc', because he seems to lack vocabulary or something."

He forced a roarse voice as he mimicked the 'angry' noises.

"If he tries to run away from you, or don't accept this talisman, just tell him it is from his best-friend-forever-he-didn't-ask-for, Ataru, wants him safe and sound, and for him to be back soon!"

Ataru puffed his chest, grinning widely.

Cycle 1

"I told you... Not even she believes in them... She may be a kind soul, but..."

"The world isn't made out of buts. I believe someday things can go right. And while I know it may be hard, there is nothing wrong on believing on it."

"You are hopeless."

She sighed, but a faint smile crossed her lips, and she looked at @Ueno Mizuki.

"There is. He is a Moon Fang that appeared in the outskirts for a dozen moons now."

She explained, then gesturing at the large Caenis and the little Caenis.

"He doesn't stay around too much, and he isn't really talkative, but those two know a bit more about him."
