This was the culmination of his massive planning attempts, the massive purchases of metals and materials, and months of work on the foundries and milling machines, which by themselves took up some more weeks of painstaking work. Never more will the people of this land cower in fear of those robots that landed in Vintergard and their incoming spread all across the land. For on this very moment, all of the Landers and Travelers will have one that would call its own: a beacon of resistance against those who dared invade their world. For now, he would dub this project as the "Tetsujin Initiative", and this particular unit as the Sengoku-class "Takeda Shingen". More units should be on the works, for different kingdoms, for different units. But for now, this would be for himself, his daily driver until it needed replacement or it would get destroyed.

This beach within the area of Ilmea's Lament should be the perfect place for the final construction of the robot, since he had no space to construct it within the hidden workshops of the former Lightning Ironworks where he made the parts, and so he had to move to a large area, where the sea was accessible, and this area was a perfect venue.for his plans. He then checked his inventory to see if everything he needed was complete, and he then nodded as he then materialized a series of platforms on the sandy ground. Every placement that he did was precise as he was aided by the system via his Investigation Mode, and so the only thing he needed to focus on was to make sure everything was secured in place and every mechanism was working.

Within minutes, the platform was complete, the schematics of the parts nearest to the ground were indicated so as to aid him in his placements. This should be the hardest part of construction, but when everything there would be finished, the rest should follow smoothly. He then activated the jetpack on his back to start the construction, and then hovered towards the platform and then landed there. But as he then turned around to start the assembly, he saw a woman who had just happened to be there. He then thought that this should be a secret project, but as he pondered on the matter again, he thought that it should be no harm, as he would not patent this anyway, and the more people that wanted to pursue this project and the likes of it, the better. He then activated his jetpack and then moved towards the woman, and then asked, "Are you here for something?"

Aeromancy: simple. Blast air around. Throw a few volts. Tristaria loved it for its simplicity, but also hated it for that same reason.

Magitech: everything Aeromancy wasn’t. It wasn’t innate, or at least not in the same way. It wasn’t simple in the slightest. It was perhaps one of the most complex masteries in existence, which was exactly why it was chosen. More complexity meant more chance for exploitation. There was only one problem…

"…HOW DOES MAGITECH WORK!?" Her voice echoed throughout the streets of the small village which had sprung up between Dunnstad and Ilmea’s Lament. It drew the attention of a few people who glanced her way. Worried, they returned to their houses, slammed doors, or just accelerated their walk away.

She felt an indescribable rage boiling inside her, fueled and boosted by the mana in her artificial veins. It was consuming… powerful… driving her mad! She’d been trying to follow the magitech tutorial for easily an hour now, and still struggled to make so much as a single, moving piece!! What she really needed was a proper example. Surely, somewhere here was a real person who’d taken the mastery, right…?

……
………………

After probably an hour of waiting (during which several terrorized villagers watched her suspiciously through closed windows), Tris threw her hands up in the air and shook her head. "Hopeless," she cried, throwing her head up in frustration. However, as she did so, her eyes focused on a lone figure, darting through the sky. Was that… a JETPACK!?

Tristaria had spent the last hour or so trailing the mysterious jetpack guy. A glimmer of hope, darting through the sky like a shooting star, ready to grant her wish! …she hoped. Whatever he was doing, he sure looked determined from what little she could see of his face.

Finally, she caught up to him on the beach of Ilmea’s Lament, watching silently as he began to construct… well she wasn’t sure what it was yet, but the frame sure was massive! Every moment felt like a bit of a learning experience. So you started with a frame, then inserted the core, but what about the conduits, how did those…

"Oh." Tris was so engaged in watching (and analyzing) his work, she didn’t realize she’d been standing there, motionlessly staring at it like a living statue. Yep: in hindsight, that was a bit awkward. "I’m here to watch," she answered, pointing at the partially-constructed device. "What is it?"

"Oh, that?" Tetsunosuke then looked at the platform. "That is just a platform with the bottom view schematics for what will I be doing next. It will be needed since I will need precise positioning and level terrain for what I am planning to do. It looks magnificent, yes, but the real show will start now. Currently I am making something what no other people had done, or at least no other people I knew were doing the same thing I am doing. Here," He then materialized a magical diaphragm - but it actually looked like a megaphone - and then said, "This thing I am doing might be dangerous to anyone near the area, so if you want to ask something, use that so that I can hear you." He then used his jetpack to move towards the platform again.

In preparation for what he intended to plan, Tetsunosuke then materialized 9 platforms on their designated positions: 4 each on the near side and the far side of the woman if she intended to watch, and then a large one at the dead center; as he hovered and landed near each area where the platforms spawned in succession with a deft maneuvering of his inventory. But this was the start of his job, as Tetsunosuke then started to move to the farther leftmost platform and then started materializing parts one-by-one as they were placed into their respective positions automatically: a wheel the size of a wheel of a truck, a short axle connecting to the wheel, a metal enclosure, a series of suspension springs, a magic motor connecting to the axle, brakes, a magical conduit connecting to the motor, an upright axle connecting to the wheel system, another magical motor connecting to the vertical axle, a magical conduit connecting to it, a metal lid that covers everything but a part of the two magical conduits. In every step he checked on the integrity of the system, and tightening every nut, bolt, and screw that every part was accompanied with. He then repeated the same process with the seven other platforms. It should be noticed that most of the metal casing seemed to be solid-jointed so as to be rigid in their construction as a whole. That was the beauty of the appended Investigation Mode of the Magitech mastery: every part could be placed in their exact locations right down to microns. Tetsunosuke then generated two more huge metal enclosures side-by-side that spanned the four wheel systems, connecting them to the large enclosures by rigid jointing. He then moved inside one of the enclosures and generated latch mechanisms, and he did the same in the other enclosure, such that the latches were not touching each other, and when the latches close, these will be closed zipper style. He then generated more magical conduits and connected all of those which corresponded to the wheel motors on each side into one for each side, the same was done to the vertical motors and the latch mechanisms. He then connected the conduits to their respective positions to what seemed to be huge hinges on their respective sides and positions, and then generated two metal lids to close each of the respective enclosures, and then Tetsunosuke then resolved himself to tighten every needed screw on the lid.

By then, the viewer should catch on to what Tetsunosuke was doing all this time: this current state of completed work seemed to resemble the legs of a robot, only the foot part was truncated and seemed to have an option for extension.

Tristaria raised her hand to her chin as the stranger began to explain the overview of what he was doing. It was all so... mysterious! Tris was handed a megaphone-type thing, staring at it for a moment before nodding and stepping back to a safe distance.

In the real world, watching this process might've been boring; mostly because it would've been painfully slow. Here, it went beyond simply not being boring: it was overwhelmingly fast! Tris didn't need to blink, but she felt like, if she did, she'd miss several parts, this inventor was that fast!

"Woah..." Tris spoke in a disinterested tone that felt out of place, given how impressed she actually was. She spent a few long seconds simply watching and being impressed, but then the questions began...

"So magitech also works according to normal physics, then?"
"Do the types of conduits matter? What's the difference between the thin and thick ones?"
"What's that thing?"
"What are you building anyway? Giant legs?"

Etc... these and many more such questions. Tristaria seemed to have a never-ending stream of them, shouted through the megaphone diaphragm with a monotonous lull.

"...Also, I'm Tristaria."

As Tetsunosuke heard the voices from the megaphone, he thought that the megaphone might have been malfunctioning, but as he continued to hear the various questions, he thought that the monotony might have been from the woman who was speaking on it. Was it by design? Was it a speech defect? Maybe he would know the reason as he would speak with this woman, who called herself Tristaria, about a lot of things. She seemed interested in the construction, and maybe the whole craft itself, that she had asked a lot of questions regarding it.

As he then hovered on the next spot to tighten the large screws with the multi-tool that he had also designed himself, he then spoke through some sort of a small microphone that he had generated earlier. A magical speaker at the near-side and rightmost corner then emitted his voice, as he hovered around tightening screws.

"The name's Tetsunosuke. Indeed, magitech also works according to normal physics, the only difference is how magic works and how it should be integrated with the physics that we know. For example, these conduits served like copper wires for magical ether, and the thicker they are, the amount of ether that can be pumped through them increases. There are other materials that can serve as conduits, but this is the cheapest one that can also host the amount of ether that I need. As of now, I can only dabble with the mechanical and some of the electrical aspects that I know about, but when more of those who could bring our own technology from our world will appear, I might create some more things that could not be done with the boring physics in our world. Man, how brilliant it would be if we can also get a microprocessor designer to play!"

He then finished tightening every screw, and then hovered at the front of what he had been constructing, and then said, "Yes, these are giant legs, but these are just lower legs. There are much more to follow, so stay tuned."

He then generated from his inventory two more large metal frames, and these fit snugly on the hinges of the parts on its bottom, and the hinges were then shrouded with a windshield that looked like the front of an armored van that banks use, complete with headlights. It also had a peculiar skirting that shrouded the wheels, as if it would be attached to something in the future. Also, these metal frames looked as if they had more detail on their insides; it looked like something where passengers would lounge. It was then confirmed as he generated two panels that looked like monitors, two rows and two columns of seating, and even vending machines in the 8' by 8' room that was inside. There were two straight hallways on either side that led to the room, terminating to the doors at the right side. He then generated two elevators at either side, and after placing some magical motors and conduits, fitting them in their respective places, and making sure that all mechanisms worked, he then generated a lid that covered all of the frame, and then started to seal it with screws.

Tristaria turned her attention to the device in her hand. No way! This thing had a microphone too!? She shared the wonder for this incredible device by glancing at it with the same disinterested expression that she always used.

"I see," she answered, a few times actually, nodding along as the faerin now known as Tetsunosuke explained. This was arguably the best person she could’ve possibly met, or at least it felt that way in the moment. Such detailed explanations that could’ve come straight out of a textbook, together with a massive example to follow… or at least try to follow. She understood the basic principles anyway.

As time passed, Tris felt her gaze move higher and higher, as the shadow cast by the metal giant grew more imposing. Just gathering the materials for this mammoth must’ve taken ages, let alone designing the whole thing. Once she was reasonably sure it was safe, she wandered up to the base and stared straight up at the lid rapidly being constructed. By now, it was obvious what he’d just built.

"Did you actually just build a giant mecha?" Tristaria questioned rhetorically, her face ever so slightly betraying her surprise. And after a slight pause, she added, "… Does it work?" That question was considerably less rhetorical. It was one thing to build a statue of a mech, but if it worked, that’d be truly incredible!

Tetsunosuke had a wide grin as Tristaria realized what he had been making all along, and then replied as he hovered within Tristaria's sight. "Yes, this is a giant mecha I am building right now, with all the transformation mechanics and such. And, from what I have seen from my design prototype, this should also work."

He then started on his next task, by attaching what would become the hip part of the mecha, and part of the back of the vehicle which was one of the forms of its transformation, to what would become the mecha's thighs. This also served as the pilot's entrance, which should of course be him. He then generated from his inventory, piece by piece, a massive and comprehensive frame which was to become the main body of the mecha, complete with the main magical generator room, the cockpit, the shafts for the elevator, and what seemingly was to be its head, which seemed to be in its retracted position; and secured them all to their proper positions in this configuration. He then set himself to generate and connect all of the magical conduits to their respective areas at the cockpit, and then generated a really thick magical conduit, which was then connected to its socket at the cockpit, and then tightening it to the fullest extent, and then connecting it to the main magical generator room. He then generated one by one the frames needed for the mecha's arms on each side, securing all joints and connecting all the conduits to all of the motors that needed them, down to the fingers of the hands which seemed to also have been retracted and covered up by a magical jet stream on the ends of the arms. He then made sure that every magical motor, every conduit, every mechanism, was working before he closed the body frame with a series of various materials: a simple metal armored plating which he then screwed on shut, followed by two enclosures for something that seemed to be weapons for either side which he then attached a conduit each to, and then creating some sort of a viewing deck with the last elevator shafts, with the corresponding magical motors needed, were then connected to the shafts at the bottom.

After many hours of work, everything was completed: from a first glance, it looked like an enlarged armored personal carrier with a viewing deck on top, but, as Tetsunosuke then hovered to where Tristaria is, and then pressing a bunch of buttons on his magical transmitter, the armored carrier launched upward, the underside became unbent into legs, the feet then extended for a bit, the hips then extended a bit as the body then unfolded, the chest then also extended a bit as the joints of the arms were also extended a bit, the hands then appeared from the hollow sockets of the forearms, the head then appeared in its rightful place ascending from the shoulders, pauldrons then attached themselves from the shoulders to the arms, and belt armor then lowered down and enveloped the waist and thighs. It had then seemed that a large metallic samurai of 40 feet descended towards the platform.

"This is the Sengoku-class, the first of its class, the Takeda Shingen." Tetsunosuke then remarked. "Many more mechas much better than this will come in the future, but this is my first creation and I am proud of it."

Tristaria was suddenly very interested: far beyond simply learning the inner workings of magitech, this was… well… exciting! Unsurprisingly, the girl who’d chosen the "robot race" for herself was kinda into things like giant mechs.

"Transform…!?" Tris echoed as her eyes softened considerably. She still sounded disinterested, but less so than she ever had before. It was almost an exclamation! Almost…

Figuring now would be a good time to practice while Tetsunosuke finished up his design, Tristaria turned her attention to the sandy ground and tried to mimic the inventor by making something of her own. That jetpack was nifty, and downright essential for a proper jet plane robot, so she’d start by trying to copy that.

Over the next several minutes, Tris would glance between Tetsu’s creations and her own little schematic on the sand. It looked kinda sad by comparison, but hey! Everyone had to start somewhere! Shortly before the mech was completed, she finished her own, pressing a button softly to activate it.

The little jetpack suddenly sputtered to life, spinning a large hole in the sand, and then awkwardly veering off into the water, where it vanished with a strong splash. "Uhm…" Tris scratched the back of her head, "this might take some practice."

But thankfully, Tetsu was finally ready to show off his invention, and Tris was all-too-happy to forget her waterlogged jetpack in favor of its reveal. She gazed in (internal) awe as metal plates shifted, bent, and twisted the vehicle into a giant, metal humanoid!

"Takeda Shingen…!" Tris nodded vigorously. "A real mecha!" And after a few moments, she was right up in Tetsu’s face. "We have to test it! Can it really fight? Where’s something giant it can punch?"

As Tetsunosuke was then asked if his giant mech could really fight, he replied, "Yes, by my calculations and testings, it also could fight. But, of course, testings done on small models might result in a different thing when done on larger models, so let us put that to the test." With these words, he then flew towards the back of his creation, and then, when his credentials were then assessed, a door opened at the robot's lower waist, and he then entered, the door closing behind him. After some time, the eyes of the mech which was seemingly behind an elaborate mask glowed red, signifying the presence of its pilot, as it then boosted upward with its hands and feet.

The mech then glanced left and right to see if there was any nearby enemy or monster, but seeing nothing, a voice was then heard from the mech itself. "No hostiles in sight. Looks like that cliff would do." The mech then activated the thrusters on the two sides of its body in which two of its weapons are sheathed, as well as a singular large thruster where the elevators were situated, and moved towards the cliff. As it moved, the mech emitted a voice again. "Sadly, I have not tested if it can sustain continuous punches, but that does not mean that this is a powerless mech." It then unsheathed one of the weapons on its body from its position on its back: a straight one-edged short sword with no hilt. As it moved towards the cliff, the blade on its hand was then glowing red from the power supplied from the hand that held it, and then, with a quick slash, the tip of the cliff was then cut off and fell to the water in a large splash. The mech then landed on the platform again after the deed, and then Tetsunosuke reappeared from the back.

"There are still many things to improve upon, but at least this is a proof that someone could build mechas in this world," He then said to Tristaria as he then landed on the sand.

Tris started to lose heart as the conversation moved to those age-old excuses, but Tetsu was quick to accept the challenge, if it could be called a challenge. "A test..." she echoed, the faintest smile now on her face. "Now this I have to see."

If nothing else, a failed test was often equally spectacular as a successful one. But she really wanted to see a working mecha! And of course, if it actually worked, that meant maybe... theoretically... possibly... someday... she could make a mech of her own! Or well... something similarly cool at least.

Watch Tetsu take the ride up felt like it was taking ages, even though it was mere seconds. Like the imminent launch of a rocket, the moment was quiet, yet tense with anticipation for what was to come. And in an instant, the mech came alive.

Simply moving the behemoth Takeda Shingen already caused Tristaria's eyelids to raise: a feat almost as impressive as moving tons of metal! Tris gripped onto her hat, ensuring it wouldn't fall as the thrusters blasted a crater into the sand. Powerful booming voice, giant blade, and one swift, powerful cut!

For perhaps the first time, Tristaria genuinely looked... amazed! She stepped back as Takeda Shingen landed once again and eagerly met Tetsu as he returned to the ground. "This is incredible!" she exclaimed, pointing to the giant metal figure. "I can't believe magitech actually allows for something like this, it looked so simple!"

Not that she cared what this stupid game had to offer...

...right?

She still had to destroy it. For Raina. Buuuuut, obviously, exploring the finer workings of magitech would help in that effort, right? Yeah. All a completely necessary part of the process.

"...Would you maybe be willing to teach me more later?" she finally asked after a long pause, eyes drifting to his jetpack. "And how to make one of those too...?"

As he had completed in his landing, Tetsunosuke was then approached by Tristaria, applauding his creation and the versatility and awesomeness of magitech creation in general. He then replied, "What I have done here is the culmination of weeks worth of studies, some more weeks of hard, grueling and painstaking work, and days of testing and planning. There might be people that will have their own ideas and will execute them far more superior that what I have done here, but that is the beauty of magitech in general: you are only limited by your own imagination and abilities." He had seen her work on her own creation while she was still engrossed with it, and he saw the jetpack fly to the air as she attempted to power it. Honestly, she had not known it, but she actually succeeded in her first work.

"Now wait a minute here," He then activated his jetpack again, and then flew towards the place that he estimated that the jetpack flew towards, and then generated in his hand what seemed to be a fishing rod with a claw at the end of the line. As he saw exactly where the jetpack flew, he then fished it out, picked it up, and flew again towards Tristaria.

"Also, you actually did your very own jetpack here," he said to Tristaria as he then deactivated his own jetpack, held her prototype so as to point it to the ground, and then applied his magic onto it. The jetpack then activated as it slowly lifted his body from the ground, maneuvered with it for a bit, before safely landing down, and then handed over the prototype to her. "What is also great about magitech is that it is virtually waterproof. Well then, if you need to hear more lessons from me, come by to the old Lightning Ironworks building in Stokbon, and I will try to teach you what I know. So, I need to go to the Magical Institute of Theory to return my findings and file a position paper, and so, farewell and see you soon." He then activated his jetpack again, moved towards the speaker, despawned it to his inventory, and then returned to his mech. As he did, the mech's eyes glew red again, as it then despawned the platform before flying away.

Tris nodded vigorously as Tetsunosuke gave a rousing explanation of magitech in general. Even less expected, he quickly fished out her own prototype creation and showed that it did, in fact, work as intended! Just that she’d kinda messed up the activation by triggering it prematurely. Whoops.

"I see!" she raised a finger to her cheek. "Waterproof…" She trailed off, looking at the waves of Ilmea’s Lament. What if… no, that would be something to test later. More importantly, her request had been granted! Sorta. "Lightning Ironworks in Stokbon, got it!" As for the Magical Institute of Theory, that would also be something to be explored later.

"Thank you, Tetsunosuke," Tris nodded, the faint smile still on her lips. She’d been shown the sky-high potential magitech offered, and for perhaps the first time, she… almost, felt excited to return to this game. "Yes, see you soon… again…" she answered with a wave goodbye, staring at the prototype jetpack in her hands.
