They had parted for the night as usual, the blonde exiting the elevator as it arrived at the 21st floor. A shower was the first order of business, before the girl had slipped into some comfortable pjs for the night. She’d brushed her teeth and combed her hair, a towel loosely laid on her shoulders to trap most of the moisture from it, before the blonde had nestled herself on the queen bed in her room. Valeria had spent some time on her phone then, the girl lazily scrolling through various reels in different apps—the occasional funny one shared with Ari once in a while—as she waited for her hair to mostly dry off.

Finally she’d returned the towel to the bathroom, using the handheld hair dryer provided by the hotel for the finishing touches, before she had finally crawled into bed and turned off the lights. She’d awoken sometime later, feeling drowsy as the blonde struggled to shake the grogginess away. A hand rubbed her eyes, squinting them as she tried to read the alarm clock by her bedside table: 4:11 AM. A frustrated groan had left her lips before the girl had turned over, intending to continue her sleep, when her hand suddenly got a hold of drenched fabric as the girl had tried to pull the comforter closer.

"¿Qué carajos...?" It was enough to snap Valeria from her sleepy state, the blonde immediately sitting upright on the bed before her hand reached for the lamp on the nightstand. "Oh, what the fuuuuuuck...?!"

Valeria found herself standing at the front desk of the lobby a short while later. She had changed into a different set of pjs , one that had taken the blonde a while to locate inside her suitcase, after her original choice had been drenched in water… along with the bed and parts of the floor of her room. One foot tapped against the floor in a vain attempt to release some of the annoyance the blond was currently feeling, the middle aged man behind the counter having used all manners of apologies regarding the incident as they struggled to find a solution in their system. Thankfully she’d had the mind to grab her phone before heading out the door, fingers tapping away at the screen as she sent a message to Ari.

You’re never going to believe what happened tonight…

Some fucking idiot left their bathtub running before passing out on the bed, and guess who won the lottery of being right underneath that particular room?

Being awake in the middle of the night was somewhat of a norm for Ari. Whether it be up gaming, or simply his insomnia refusing to allow him a few hours of dreamless sleep, as restless as those were, being up at 2am, regardless of the time zone was something he'd become accustomed too.

Bored of simply staring into the near darkness, the only light being the city lights filtering through the thick hotel curtains, Ari turned over and reached to the nightstand to grab his phone. Maybe a few minutes playing some gacha game would help the man tire himself out and finally get some sleep.

So far, fifteen minutes of deploying waifus to fight off waves and waves of monsters hadn't really done much to make him tired enough to sleep. He had, on the other hand, farmed up some more materials which he could put towards upgrading his ship. So that was a plus.

The phone suddenly buzzed in Ari's hand, nearly making him drop the device on his face. Swiping down, the mean quickly read the series of texts he received, and from Valeria no less. The man shifted in the bed as he read. Oh, that didn't sound good...

Oh shit, everything all good? Hotel setting you up with a new room?

She hadn’t expected a reply, assuming the man would’ve been asleep by now. If anything the text had been a way for the blonde to vent out her own frustrations, something that they could perhaps laugh about later in the day once the situation was resolved. A frustrated sigh left the girl as she looked back to the middle aged man trying to navigate the system, from the look on his face it was clear that no vacancy had popped up, before the device vibrated as two messages came through.

They’re trying… but apparently everything’s already booked ‘cause of the summerfest

So yeah… kinda?

There was a gap of time between her two replies as the blonde debated on whether to send it or not, the blonde unsure if she’d be imposing too much, but she was also tired… and they had already slept in the same bed before… so it wasn’t a big deal, right?

Ari sat up in his bed as he waited for Valeria to reply. Sleep obviously wasn't going to come easy tonight, and it'd be better if he was awake enough to answer the door if she decided to come up without telling him, though the man doubted that'd be the case.

Sure enough, a couple minutes later, Ari's phone lit up and buzzed again with another message from the girl. He was a little surprised by the fact that the hotel was completely booked. But only a little. It was the middle of Summerfest after all, and that meant plenty of festival goers looking for rooms.

Well, my beds big enough for two

The short message on it's way, Ari got out of bed, firstly to go drink some water. Grabbing the bottle beside the bed, the man uncapped it, took a couple sips, and then closed it and placed it on the nightstand. After that, the man stood up and went to his suitcase. Better find a shirt...

Despite knowing better the blonde couldn’t help the smile that crossed her lips upon seeing Ari’s message, her cheeks flushing ever so slightly as the girl felt a warm and fuzzy feeling emanate from her chest. She finally managed to get herself under control, typing out a quick reply for the man, before turning her attention tot he middle-aged manager struggling with her case.

[ Ari ]

So yeah… kinda?

Well, my beds big enough for two

Let me tell the manager we can sort this shit tomorrow then and I’ll go up

A few moments later she’d left her contact information at the front desk, alerting the manager that she’d be staying with a friend already booked in the hotel for the night, and he promised to enter it all into the system. Tomorrow, once she was better rested and not in a sour mood, they could try and sort this situation out. Thankfully the blonde had the foresight to move her suitcase and belongings atop the small table in the room, ensuring they’d be out of the path of any water—with the manager reassuring Valeria on more than one occasion that they’d already dealt with the source of the leak directly.

About fifteen minutes had passed when Val finally found herself standing outside of Ari’s room, her heart beating rapidly as the girl felt nervous. A deep breath was taken, Val quietly reminding herself that she’d already stayed here once before, as a hand reached for the door and gave it a couple of knocks.

"Ari…?"

Having pulled on a shirt, Ari had decided to pull back the curtains and go out onto the balcony and enjoy the cool night air. With Val coming down to his room, there really wasn't much point in trying to fall back asleep, only to get up again five minutes later.

Only on the seventh floor, there wasn't too much wind. Just a light breeze, almost cold enough to make one shiver. Down below, cars continued to pass by, their headlights illuminating the black asphalt and late night pedestrians. It was a wonder how anyone was still out and about at this time of night.

Several minutes passed before Ari heard a knock on his door, accompanied by a faint voice, muffled as it traveled through the door. "Comin'," the man responded, traveling through the room to unlock and pull open the door. "Hey," he said, stepping aside to let the girl into the room. "Cute pajamas," he chuckled.

The lights were still off, but given that Valeria's own room couldn't have been any worse than a mirror of his own, the man figured she would be able to navigate it with little difficulty. Failing that, the light streaming through the open glass door lit the room up enough to see by. "Sort things out with management?" the man then asked as he shut the door and locked it.

"H-Hey," There was a light stutter along with a rising intonation to her voice, a consequence of the nervousness the blonde was feeling inside, before she cleared her throat lightly as she stepped into the room. His comment about her pajamas earned a light giggle however, helping ease her own nerves before she grinned back at Ari. ”Right? Pandas are adorable, so I couldn’t resist getting these~"

It was also one of the two sets with long pants that she’d actually brought along, the other ones probably being far too short to be prancing about the main lobby with—and she hadn’t felt like properly dressing when she had initially stormed out of her room. Her steps took her further into the room, the light filtering in from the opened glass windows helping her eyes find their way.

"Not really, not yet at least… we really weren’t getting anywhere at this time, so they took my information to properly check it out later today." A faint sigh left her lips, a hand running along her hair to relieve some of the annoyance she still felt, before the blonde turned to look at the man with a half smile. "Sorry for waking you up in the middle of the night for this…"

"Don't mention it," the man replied as he turned back around to see Valeria already staring at him with an apologetic smile. "I wasn't getting much sleep anyways. Just my insomnia rawdogging my ass again," Ari said with a shrug, unusually vulgar in his diction simply due to how tired he felt at the moment.

Despite that, Ari still managed a yawn covering his mouth with his hand as his eyes began to water. Gently, he rubbed his eyes as he spoke. "I'm gonna go sit out on the balcony for a bit. If you don't plan on sleeping, wanna join me? We still have that bottle of sake from the first day to finish if you want." Ari pointed to the fridge at the mention of the sake. He'd kept it in there since Monday. He hadn't really feeling right about finishing it without Valeria. It was only half a bottle left, but it was their drink, not his.

"Uufff, that bad huh?" She couldn’t help the light chuckle that escaped her lips at Ari’s very unique visual descriptor, an empathic glance given back to the man in return. She’d certainly gone through bouts of insomnia in the past, especially when things had been rough with her grandparents, so the blonde could understand how terrible it felt to be sleep deprived. "You always have trouble sleeping, or is it just a recent flare up?"

His yawn proved to be contagious however, a hand raising to cover her mouth before the blonde rubbed her eyes slightly. "The sake… oh, that’s right! I’d forgotten about it," At the reminder of the bottle Valeria couldn’t help but nod, making her way over to the small fridge and pulling out the Tengumai before heading for the balcony. Said bottle was placed down on the small table provided outside, the girl moving over closer to the railing to enjoy the cool night breeze that blew by.

"Not gonna lie, the breeze here is so much better… too windy for my liking on the higher floors."

"Yeah, that bad," Ari returned with a chuckle of his own. "Gotten used to it though. Been that way since high school though, so," the man shrugged. It was what it was. Though, the man struggled to remember he'd ever experienced insomnia before he'd woken up in the hospital. That part was a complete mystery to the man. But in any case, the last six years had given him plenty of time to acclimate to his general lack of sleep.

As Valeria rushed to get the sake for them, Ari headed out onto the balcony, settling himself in one of the chairs. The man leaned back and stared out into the city. His eyes drifted up to the sky, a little disappointed that he couldn't see any stars in the sky. The New York lights polluted the sky too much, but Ari had expected as much.

"...the breeze here is so much better…"

Valeria's voice drew the man's attention, drawing his gaze as she moved towards the railing. Ari stood to join her, leaning against the metal bar beside the girl. "Yeah, the higher up you get, the windier it gets," he said with a slight nod. "Not too bad here though. Besides, can't say that I mind the view," he added, looking over at Valeria with a flirtatious grin gently tugging at a corner of his mouth, indicating that he wasn't talking about the brick buildings across the street.

”... Been that way since high school though, so…”

She couldn’t help but fall silent for a few moments as that detail sunk in, a pensive look on her face as she realized that meant at least about four (if not more) years of poor sleep to the man. Sure, one adapted and learned to cope with the lack of proper rest… but that still didn’t mean it didn’t take a toll on the body and the mind. At least it definitely had in Valeria’s case for the three years she’d struggled with her own insomnia, the girl having only just begun to enjoy a normal night’s rest for the current ongoing year.

"Yeah, the high up view of New York city was interesting… but the wind was too harsh and chilly to properly enjoy it." A miscalculation on her part for sure, though in the end she’d been able to enjoy both options thanks to Ari. ”... Besides, can't say that I mind the view,...”

The meaning behind his words wasn’t lost on the blonde, her gaze shifting from the mostly empty dimly lit roads and buildings to look into the dark brown eyes of the man beside her, the flirty grin beginning to pull at the corner of his mouth hard to miss or ignore. "You don’t say," There was a teasing tone to her words, a playful glint shining in her eyes as Valeria turned her attention fully towards him now—leaning just close enough so her arm could lightly brush against his own as they chatted.

"Pray tell, what’s your favorite thing about the view then, mmm~?"

A coy grin, teasing words. A mischievous look and just the barest of touches. Ari couldn't help but chuckle and smile. "Oh, you know. These buildings, so much history," he joked, as he too leaned into the girl.
"Mmm, right… every brick is just so breathtaking, hmm?" the girl replied, mimicking his own sarcastic tone, causing Ari to laugh.
"Right?" he chuckled, before wrapping an arm around the girl's shoulders and drawing her close to him.

Warmth radiated from Valeria's body, even against the cool night air the surrounded them. It was soothing to the man. Comfortable, as if they had always been this way, and always would be. That was just a dream, of course. A lie his mind kept telling him. Ari knew it was, but even still he let himself believe it for just a little while as his thumb brushed along Valeria's shoulder, enjoying the feeling of having her in his arms.

"Sake's gonna get warm," Ari said after a few moments of contentment, remembering that they'd brought it out in the first place. He lingered for a moment before moving away from the girl, reaching back to grab the bottle. A short sip as he returned, his arm draping itself around the girl's shoulders again, before he passed the bottle to her. "Man, I keep forgetting how dangerous that stuff is."

Her chuckles joined his as Valeria joined his little game, before the girl snuggled closer once Ari’s arm wrapped around her shoulders. She leaned her head against his shoulder, a content sigh quietly escaping the blonde as she enjoyed this moment between them. His warmth was comforting, offering small refuge from the cool night breeze, and the familiarity of the moment did not escape Val’s attention.

A thought crossed her mind then, not for the first time, as the girl lamented the hands each had been dealt in this world… before the blonde quietly pushed those thoughts away as she decided to focus on the here and now instead. If this moment wasn’t meant to last forever then, at the very least, Valeria wished to enjoy every second of it while she still could.

"True," She was reminded by their choice of drink as the man finally shifted, a small shiver crossing her spine when Ari finally moved away from her and the night chill settled into the space once more. "Would be a shame to disrespect it that way."

He uncapped it, taking a short sip, before the bottle was passed over to the blonde just as Ari’s arm returned to wrap around her shoulders once more. "Right? It really sneaks up on you, especially ‘cause it tastes so good too." A small sip was also taken by the girl, enjoying the unique flavors the Tengumai offered, even as she felt the light burn as the alcohol traveled down her throat.

"It doesn't have that like, burn-y sensation, ya know?" the man commented as Valeria took a sip of the sake. "You just keep sippin' at it and then suddenly your ass is on the floor, or you're on a table shakin' it," he chuckled. Neither of those things had ever happened to Ari, nor was it likely to happen, but he could only imagine how a bottle of this Tengumai might affect someone with a lower alcohol tolerance.

"By the way, you're not tired?" the man asked, realizing while it was normal for him to be up at this hour, most others were sound asleep in their beds. Ari had imagined the girl would have at least tried to collapse on the bed and squeeze in a few more hours of shut eye before the sun rose and she had to go try to deal with management again.

"Ahahaaa, that certainly sounds accurate," The bottle was handed back after one more short sip, the blonde allowing herself to enjoy the different flavors found on the sake. "It burns a tiny bit, but certainly nothing close to other spirits with the same alcohol level."

Thankfully Valeria was usually good at keeping herself in check when it came to alcohol, and while the girl was no stranger to getting tipsy she had—for the most part—avoided getting plastered enough where she’d make a fool of herself or simply pass right out.

"By the way, you're not tired?"

"Kinda? I did get a couple of hours of sleep in before this whole issue happened," A soft sigh escaped her lips upon remembering the events of the night that had lead Valeria to now be standing on the balcony besides Ari, though she couldn’t exactly complain about the end result. A bright smile was given to the man, honest and earnest, as the girl spoke. "I’m not tired enough to give up spending time with you, though~"

Really, it was a no brainer decision—if the choices were go back to bed on her own or spend time with Ari while drinking Valeria knew she’d pick the latter one every time, even if the sake wasn’t part of the equation. Her smile however soon faded, replaced by a light frown as a realization dawned on her mind.

"What about you though, Ari? You haven’t slept much, have you…?"

She laughed. No matter how many times Ari had heard her laugh during the week, he never tired of it. And he doubted he would ever tire of it. Like the melodic sounds of a wind chime. Light, and hanging in the air for just a moment before they faded away.

"I'm not tired enough to give up spending time with you, though~"
The man couldn't help but smiling when he'd heard those words, looking away from the girl, abash with a sheepish smile. "You're cute," he said as he gently squeezed the girl's shoulders.

"I'm alright," he answered when questioned about whether or not he was tired. "I've pulled a few all-nighters in my time. Probably won't feel it until tomorrow night, really." More often than not, Ari's body eventually would just hit a point where he was so tired he no longer noticed that he was. The next day he would go on, completely normal, until finally it came time to collapse in his bed and he'd sleep half the day away again. "Whenever you wanna hit the sack though, I'll come join you," the man said, taking back the bottle of sake and taking another sip. "Couldn't hurt, ya know?"

”You’re cute.”

She’d watched Ari turn his gaze away from her as she spoke, a sheepish smile on his lips as the man squeezed her shoulders. "Why thank you~" It caused her to giggle softly, before the girl decided to take the offered opportunity as she leaned in closer to press her lips against his cheek.

A soft nod was given when he tried to soothe her concerns, the blonde quite familiar with the concept of all-nighters.Sometimes the body simply fell into a groove that ignored any exhaustion, though eventually it would come a-knocking and demand its dues. Still, just because she understood how insomnia worked didn’t mean Valeria liked it… so when the man offered an alternative the blonde decided it was worth giving it a try.

"Mmm, okay—let’s give that a try then. After all, we still have the rest of the week to finish that bottle, right~?"

Her hand reached towards Ari’s own that currently rested on her shoulders, interlacing their fingers together in what had now become a natural action, before she lifted his arm just enough to dance out of his hold with a light dip and a couple of steps. She didn’t let go of his hand though, instead tugging his arm softly as the blonde took another step towards the sliding door.

At best they both got a few more hours of sleep, and at worst… Well, at least they could still get some cuddles out of it—after all Ari had agreed to being hers for the week too, right?

The man chuckled when he felt Valeria's lips press against his cheek, a small grin stretching across his face. If anyone was looking up at them from down below, there was no doubt that they looked like longtime lovers. The ease with which they interacted with each other, Ari had to admit it was a little strange for him. There was no sense of tension, or uneasiness that the man could feel. It was wonderful change.

Her fingers entangled themselves in his as the girl lifted his arm, pirouetting from his embrace as she began to tug on his hand, urging him to follow her to bed. The man chuckled again, the playful demeanor with which Valeria approached even sleeping bringing him endless amusement.

Ari paused just long enough to shut the glass door behind them, and to leave the bottle of sake on the table again. At this point, it didn't really matter, they could always chill it again in the morning. With their hands still linked, Ari let himself be guided towards the hotel bed, just big enough for two people to sleep comfortably, much like they had the first night of Summerfest. Funny, that they'd be doing that again, only this time far more sober.

The blonde couldn’t help the delighted grin that stretched her lips into a smile whenever the man chuckled in response to her little antics. There was no uneasy tension or awkwardness—save for that one (1) time at the bagel shop—to be found between their interactions, everything simply flowed smoothly with the same ease as breathing to live. It was a fact that hadn’t gone unnoticed by the blonde as the days slowly passed them by one by one, a feeling she certainly cherished but also dreaded the time when it would come to an end.

Valeria stopped long enough for the man to close the sliding door leading to the balcony, the Tengumai sake allowed to rest atop the table for the remainder of the night—it could always be chilled once more later.

She gave the man a playful wink and a giggle before tugging on their linked hands once more, the lighthearted nature of her actions serving to channel the excitement Valeria could feel bubbling in her chest—and also serving as a blanket for the light jitters hidden underneath. Sure, she had shared a bed with another for sleeping in the past—it’s not like the blonde had never been into a sleepover, and on more than one occasion she’d also snuck into her grandmother’s bed before she too had passed on.

This, however, was a different scenario—a fact Valeria was very aware of—considering she’d never been attracted to the people involved in her previous experiences. The blonde carefully loosened the grip between her fingers, though she never quite released his hand, before the girl allowed herself to plop down on the side of the bed. After all Valeria’s intention wasn’t to just drag him onto the bed carelessly, so Ari was free to choose if he wished to follow or not when the blonde allowed her upper body to fall backwards onto the soft mattress.

The lighthearted giggling that kept escaping Valeria's lips as she pulled him closer to the lone bed in the room quickly had Ari wondering what kind of trouble he'd just gotten himself into. Last time, he'd been the one to corner the girl, but this time, it felt like she was the one luring him into a trap. But maybe he was okay with that.

Luckily (or perhaps unluckily) for Ari though, Val simply sat on the edge of the bed, letting go of his hand, and flopped back onto the bed, sinking into the soft cushions. The man chuckled as the girl spread herself out on his bed. "Any room there for me?" the man chuckled.
"Of course, but only if it's right here next to me~" she answered back with a coy smile, tapping the spot beside her. The man rolled his eyes, despite the wry smile on his own face as he laid himself down next to the girl, turning onto his side to look at her. "Ya know, most people usually sleep length-wise on a bed," he teased, his hand moving to gently caress her side.
