While everyone had been chatting, Dayeon had taken the opportunity to thrust a corndog into Valeria's hands, despite her protests, not knowing that the two had just eaten before her set. With a desperate look, Valeria looked at Ari, pleading with him to help her with the snack. "Split?" the man asked with an amused smile. Even after Dayeon's set, they were both still pretty full, but with any luck they'd manage together. Plus, they couldn't just throw food out.

Looking at Naomi, once more an amused smile on his face as the woman tried to figure out what the hell she'd just bitten into, the man couldn't help but chuckle slightly. "They're really good," the man added in after Dayeon and Val, despite the look on Naomi's face. "They got some that are half meat, half cheese too. Oh, there's one that covered in little fried potato cubes too. That one's my favorite." They weren't something that Ari usually got, just because there weren't many places that sold that style of corndog around him, but every once in a while he got a craving for the fried stick of cheese that he just couldn't ignore. God bless Uber Eats.

The short haired blonde, Danielle, as she'd introduced herself as, suggested heading over to another theatre where apparently 'Monster Siren' was playing. For some reason, the name reminded Ari of a record label in a mobile game from back in the 2020s, but that couldn't have possibly been what she was talking about was it? Well, if it was, Ari sure as hell wasn't going to pass up the chance to go see DJ Okawari live. "Sounds good to me. Be nice to get out of this heat too," the man agreed with the others. "Y'all wanna head out now?"

She'd taken a moment to stare at the corndog, before downing the piece. It was delicious. Once it was gone, Naomi found herself returning to Valeria - determined to continue the conversation, her body reacting almost immediately as she started her hopping once more.

Naomi's bouncing never faltered, even as Valeria explained her own interactions with Lindsey Stirling; having seen the woman live on television, and later on in concert. She'd met some serious fans, but Valeria seemed different - far more interested in the capabilities of the individual, over their fame. Someone who enjoys the music, not just the person...I like this one.

She found herself smiling and nodding like some sort of crazed fool, still bouncing around in front of the blonde as she listened to every word. She didn't doubt that her behaviour would make them all think she was just a grown child - Wouldn't be the first time someone mistook you for a child. Looking at you, Darryl. - but her excitement had gotten the better of her.

"Oh man! That's amazing! And the inspiration! The fact that you decided to follow in her footsteps! Just think about how awesome that is! I mean, you only saw her on YouTube and TV and decided that you wanted to do it as well! I mean, sure, that's kinda the idea, but still! I've seen so many who are inspired by someone so...so common...oh! And when you talk to her...she's so down to earth! Like, I know a lot of famous people - no offence Dayeong - get really like...up in the clouds? And like...not you, Dayeong. You seem to be down to earth too. But some of them, are like...out there. Lindsey's not like that, she knows where she came from and respects it and everything. It's just...pure passion."

She turned a few times as she redirected her comments to the popstar in their group, barely registering the fact that she might be insulting the other, and yet offering condolences regardless. Still, the bouncing maintained, although she'd found herself drifting closer and closer towards Ari, before she'd accidentally bumped into the man.

"Sorry! I'm sorry! It's just...Stirling! Sorry!"

She backed off just as the newest addition to the group - she hadn't gotten the girl's name yet - suggested another venue. Naomi hadn't heard of them before, but saw no reason to disagree with the plan. Returning to her excited bouncing, she followed the group, continuing to pester Valeria with further talk about Lindsey.

"Split?"
"Yes, please!"

The relief that washed over her face was hard to miss, a thankful smile given to the man as he'd caught up to Val's silent request, before the voice of the other blonde—Danielle Song as she introduced herself—had the groups attention. "Monster Siren...?" Her head tilted sideways in slight curiosity, though the idea of visiting the open-air venue already had the girl nodding her own confirmation oto the plan.

"So, because I just met you all today, where are you guys from?"

"I'm from Puerto Rico, though I've been living in Michigan for the last... There was a light pause as Valeria attempted some mental math of her own. "Uuhmm... five and a half years now.""

Yeah, that sounded about right. A bite was finally taken of the corndog in question, the blonde quietly chewing it properly as she listened to Naomi speak when the girl quickly turned her attention on her once more. The older woman was certainly energetic, though it wasn't a bad quality to have... if anything it was almost a bit infectious.

"Yeah, from the interviews I've seen her give and her history you can tell Lindsey is really down to earth."

It wasn't something Valeria had picked up on as a child, she'd simply been drawn to the energy of the woman on the screen and the way she danced on the stage as she performed with her violin, but as the blonde had grown older he had come to appreciate the artist even more.

"I think that's the best quality an artist can have, you can't just help but become a fan of them when you can just see the passion that radiates off them towards their craft~"

Dayeon Song

Granted, she only knew Naomi literally today, but she's an entirely different person than she was two hours ago. Guess connecting over similar interests really does something to people. As for Dayeon, she didn't know Stirling that much; she had only heard her cover of the main theme of a retro game from twenty years ago called Skyrim.

"Oh yeah, Stirling's great," is the only contribution she can add to Naomi(@Kyra Vashtana) after digging deep into her own memories.

"Wow, Puerto Rico? That's one place I'd like to visit." She commented to Valeria (@Luthien). That explains why she was in the Luis Fonsi crowd. Not that anybody needed other reasons to be there, though; Despacitwo is that good. Meanwhile, as Naomi was too absorbed in the conversation to be able to react to anything, Dayeon looked at Ari (@Yugam), trying to at least know where he was from. "What about you, Ari?"

She then attempted to converse with Danielle (@Cain Darlite) and her quieter companion (@Lady N). "Having fun so far in the Summerfest? How about you, Chelsea? You don't seem like a music party girl,"

If the short blonde girl didn't throw the codewords around, Dayeon wouldn't never in her life connect the dots that she might be Cain Darlite. That made her think twice about her character appearance decision; she could've played as anyone, so why play as a sack of emotional dumpsterfire that is herself?

Time flies when you're having fun. Before they knew it, they already almost arrived at the theater. "Better finish up the snacks and drinks, guys. I don't think outside snacks are allowed." She pointed at the Delacorte Theater entrance, which is only a few meters walk away.

And so Chelsea got swept up by others and dragged along to "have fun".

The Nexon did not even need to have fun, really.. truly. Yet she ended up letting this happen. So they went to stalls, chatted about music groups, and other normal everyday things. There was no killer game out there! Nope, not at all.

Maybe Chelsea just couldn't do this, she felt even smaller than she actually was. Danielle offered her soda or juice or something. Chelsea took it silently. Finally, after what felt like forever, Dayeon talked to her in a very direct way.

"How about you, Chelsea? You don't seem like a music party girl,"

"Not exactly. My mother was in the Japanese music industry before meeting my fath-... It's not important. I'm here because of Danielle. Not because I want to be... Music is fine I guess."

Chelsea made an attempt to offer a smile. She then drowned it out with a sip of her drink. and returned to doing her thing.

Staring and looking bored constantly.

Normally that would be the end of most social interactions she would make. However, Chelsea did make note that this interaction could create more good business opportunities in the future. Anything to improve VRS' sources of income. So she would have to interact more if forced to.

All business, not at all because she had no friends or anything.

“Or the Song dynasty just kicked hella ass,” Danielle replied back, raising her beer in Dayeon’s direction. Their names really were similar then, even down to the amount of syllables in them. “And I’m from Maryland. For now. Work keeps be going places, ya see.”

Something about what the Puerto Rican girl said caught her attention though, and the blonde leaned her head forwards, as if physically butting into the conversation. “Passion and straightforwardness aren’t the same thing though, are they?” Danielle said. “Though I suppose it’s natural to think of passion as ingenuine if coming from someone who exhibits a more eccentric personality.”

Hrm. That sounded more like something he would say. Better not.

“And the Summerfest’s been great so far, Dayeon! Good drinks, good weather, good company, and enough music to give me hearing damage! What more could a girl ask for?” She chugged down the remnants of her drink, and then, in an instance of inspired confidence, looked at the one guy in their group before crushing it flat with one hand. A challenge, certainly, but friendly?

It was hard to tell; Danielle was back to bullying making sure Chelsea enjoyed herself, at least a little bit.

“Because of me? Aww,” she gushed, giving the smaller girl a quick hug around the shoulders. “Now I feel extra touched, ‘specially when neither of us live anywhere near here! Never heard of what music you were into though, Chels, so hit us up! We got Stirling fans, a real flesh-and-blood K-pop idol, so what’s your genre of choice?”

Leaning over, Ari took a bit of the corndog after Valeria had, head swiveling to look at Dayeon as he heard his name, slowly chewing all the while. "Oh, I'm from Philly," the man answered her, covering his mouth as he spoke so as to not be a completely uncultured swine. "I'm assuming you're from South Korea, right?" Ari made a silent prayer that he hadn't just shoved his foot in his mouth.

As they'd all chatted (and snacked) they'd made it over to the theater, pointed out by Dayeon. As soon as Ari's eyes fell on the open air theater the man's shoulders slumped forward as a disappointed look settled on his face. The man had really been hoping for some air conditioning. It was warm outside, and some cool air would've been a blessing at the moment. Sadly, fate had other plans.

Her bouncing had finally begun to slow as she realised there was a shift in topic. Everyone had been sharing where they came from - or, at least it had seemed like they were sharing where they had come from. Kyra waited, pouncing on an opening as soon as she'd seen one, jumping into the question right after the man had said his bit.

"Oh! South Korea that's awesome! I'm actually from up North, beyond the border. But not like, the snowy part. I'm from the coast, in B.C. Just on the small Victorian island!"

She turned to look at the stage they had just entered, her body tensing up for a brief moment as she saw a mass of people before her. Sure, it was less than the crowd at the previous venues, but it was still people, and lots of them. Good news, you don't need to speak to all of them. Just focus on the group...and Lindsey's later. So there's that. And...yeah. Good.

She spun with a smile to face the group again, tilting her head slightly as she considered her next question. She wondered if any of them would even have an answer, or if they'd just think she was...odd.

"So uh...what do you all do when you're not here? Like...what sort of hobbies? Do you all like...play any games or anything?"

Danielle had leaned over to Naomi and Valeria as they chatted, the blonde offering her own two cents on the topic that caused Valeria to pause for a moment as she considered the other woman's words. "Mmm, yeah I guess you're right on that... I hadn't really thought of it from that point of view." It was certainly some food for thought, but before the conversation could continue they had moved onto other topics as Dayeon turned towards the blonde.

"If you do then let me know, Dayeon, I'll recommend you all the best places~"

She giggled slightly when Ari leaned over to take a bite of the corndog she'd been holding, the pair alternating bites as they walked until the fried treat existed no more. Her own drink had now been completed as well, before she spotted the way Danielle stared at Ari as the short-haired girl crushed her can flat with her hands. There was an amused look on Valeria's face, a side glance given to Ari before she noticed the man's shoulders slump as he took in the sight of the theater... an outdoors one.

Carefully she moved closer to the man, her shoulder bumping against his softly, before Naomi's question had the blonde turning to look at the woman.

"Yeah, I play a lot of different video games since I stream for a living. Also like working on cosplays~"

The girl raised an eyebrow at Chelsea's answer. She's here not because I want to be, huh. "Fine music is enough," Dayeon motioned toward Danielle, "Most importantly, you are spending time with your friend, right?" Yeah, what a load of hypocrisy. She doesn't even have any friends here in the States. Her crew is just strictly working professionally with her.

Then again, she came here alone like Kyra. Chelsea went with Danielle, while Valeria most probably came here with her date Ari.

"It is cool, yeah. Good thing this year was so packed with literally everyone's favorite! Perhaps they felt like they gotta make it up to us after canceling the event last year." She added to the short blonde's comment.

The brunette looked at the only guy in the group, correcting him. "Indeed I am a South Korean! But I was actually born and raised in Chicago. I was only able to visit my homeland five years ago before I debuted." She then turned to Valeria, giving her a thumbs up while grinning. "Pray for my success so I'll be able to go there."

Suddenly, Naomi asked the group about video games. Oh no, did she finally notice?

"Uh, yeah! I got into some VR games recently. Feat Saber, I think? Good for my cardio workout." She quickly pointed to the Delacorte Theater entrance once again, distracting them before one of them slip up. "Oh, we're here! Shouldn't we go inside? They might be playing something right now!"

Ari had zoned out momentarily. Yeah. Ari had. And definitely not his writer being an illiterate little shit, having missed something or forgotten what he was writing. Ari not his writer was just a little brain damaged was all.

Which is why, for several moments, Ari appeared to be staring blankly at Danielle as she chugged down her drink, hardly batting an eye. Until, in a show of freakish...strength? Dexterity? All of the of above? Ari blinked in surprise, wide-eyed as the can was suddenly crushed from existence. Ari's eyes darted up to Danielle's face, who smirked back before resuming her conversation with Chelsea. 'I am afeared...'

It was until Ari felt Valeria bump his shoulder again that the man was drawn back into reality. A reality where a woman just crushed a can like it was tissue paper, and his only hopes of air conditioning had been summarily dashed. Maybe the conversation would distract him.

And distract him it did. Ari was quickly getting the impression that Naomi was a nervous talker. A little chatterbox, she never seemed to stop speaking. Well, at least she did enough talking for the both of them.

On the other hand there was Dayeon. Who was about as Korean as he was apparently. Ok, probably a bit more, she actually was immersed in the culture for the last few years apparently. Ari was more Greek than Korean at this point.

"I tend to play RPGs and shooter, mostly," the man responded to Naomi after everyone else had had their turn. "And if I'm in the mood to suffer, I'll play League, like the degenerate I am. What about you Naomi?"

Wait. Someone had turned the question around on her, bringing attention to the fact that she hadn't answered. So far, everyone had been relatively calm - answering with video games, which she hadn't expected. Was the era of board games, and non-technological gameplay dead? Was she just old? Did people forget that there was more than just computers?

"Oh...I uh...play a collection of games...like a lot of board games - have you ever played those Exit games? Those are fun! A bit frustrating sometimes, but fun! Oh and there's this really cool zombie board game...it uh...takes a while to learn all the rules. Actually, it takes quite a while...the rule book is a bit extensive."

She twiddled her thumbs for a moment, considering how best to answer. If she left it at that, they'd likely think she was some ancient nerd who didn't know how to turn on a computer, or something.

"There's...uh...a few video games I play too. I used to be heavily into Guild Wars - you children probably won't know that one...but there's also this really cool virtual game that I've been playing called Te-...uh...Territorial Invader. It's uh...in beta...sort of..."

Ho, shit. Her heart was racing as she realised what she'd almost done. She was getting too nervous, the words spilling out almost immediately - before she could even consider what she was saying, or the repercussions of saying things. She glanced about, a deer-in-the-headlights look on her face before she did the one thing she knew would change the conversation - leaping onto Dayeong's back.

"So uh...Dayeong. How's being famous?"

Phew. Crisis averted.

"Most importantly, you are spending time with your friend, right?"

Friend?

The raven hair gave the slightest of glances to Danielle as she sipped her drink again and immediately saw the tall white clad flagbearer in her place.

Shudder.
Perish the thought!

Chelsea would stiffen at the "hug". She was a Nexon and CEO of a company she would like to make as respectable as possible since it's all she has left. Randomly being held by... well... non-elites made her look disrespected friend or not hmph! Of course, this was the player of Cain so it came with the territory. The man respected nothing of heritage and tradition from what she gathered.

"So what's your genre of choice?"

"...w-what? It's none of your business. I just prefer music that captures a feeling correctly and actually means something. Not prewritten garbage from a corporation..."

This coming from someone bred in a corporate atmosphere may have been pretty hypocritical but it actually just meant she understood how things worked behind the scenes more than others. Her mother had lost a lot of her personality in the industry shortly before leaving it to be with Matthias.

"VR...?"

The discussion moved to VR games... which was a quick turn to something depressing. Well more than usual anyway. So much for trying to not think about it. Maybe it was almost time for her to go. Chelsea still had to find out how to get her gear working properly after being ruined by that fever disaster.

"VR games are my company's focus. I... don't play them much myself. But Virtual Reality Strategy covers every relevant game out there. There are advertisements at this event for us. We are a sponsor for Summerfest. Many gamers here surely make use of our services... you can ..."

And for a minute Chelsea's business side would come out. She had to stop herself and her voice trailed off. After that slimodile nightmare, a part of her just wanted to have fun. Sadly, she had an important job as well.

League? Wasn't it a super ancient game? Unless it's still alive and kicking, or maybe Ari mentioned a sequel or something like that. It was all the rage for decades in Korea, though. "Uh, board games?" She recalled that she might've gone to one of those board game cafes back in Korea with her groupmates, but she couldn't remember the things she played. "... Monopoly?" The idol sheepishly replied to Naomi.

Chelsea would refuse to answer Danielle's question, before elaborating on her preference for music anyways. What a cutie. "I can relate," Dayeon agreed to the short girl's statement, recalling back to years ago when she was in a group. Their most popular song, 'Keep Me Even Closer' had to be rewritten twice because the members weren't comfortable enough with the lyrics. "That's why now that I'm going solo, I involve myself in all of the creative processes, mainly songwriting." And she was proud of the songs that she had written up until now.

Her heart almost stopped as Naomi almost uttered the T-word. Luckily, the woman seem to realize that quickly and changed the topic. "I mean, I'm not exactly famous right now. Else there would be a crowd lining up to ask for my autograph—"

Speak of the devil, a guy suddenly came out of nowhere to ask for an autograph. Dayeon quickly signed his notebook with the silver marker before waving goodbye to him. "—My point still stands. I owe a lot of the global popularity to my old group, but that period is long over. As a solo singer, however, I'm just getting started."

Now that they're near the Delacorte Theater, they can hear music blasting already from the center. "Let's grab a place in the middle, shall we?" She gestured to the others. Dayeon had never actually heard of this Monster Siren before.

Chelsea had brought up being a part of a company that made VR strategy games, causing Ari's ears to perk up. He'd just graduated from school to become a game designer after all, so it was natural that he'd be curious, even if strategy games weren't his usual cup of tea. "Any titles we'd know?" the man asked her curiously.

The topic of conversation shifted towards board games, the archaic format still finding some love in an age of technology. Ari restrained himself in giving a lecture about Monopoly, and instead chipped in with his own experience. "I used to play a ton of board games, especially with my sister. She loved Candyland, if any of you guys remember that one. I tried teaching her some card games once upon a time too," though Ari couldn't actually remember how that had turned out.

Following Dayeon's directions, the man began to enter the crowd, slowly pushing the groups way forward near the center. Wasn't that usually where moshpits happened? Pausing just a moment to reach out and grab Valeria's hand, the man's fingers interlaced with hers, just so he wouldn't lose her in the mass of bodies.

She was unable to fully stifle a laughter when Ari admitted he enjoyed playing League whenever he craved suffering, a hand raised to cover her lips before Val's attention turned over to Naomi. Board games, huh, that was something the blonde hadn't indulged in a while... "Oh man, Monopoly... talk about a friendship ender right there." She'd personally witnessed how heated up those games could sometimes become, but there was no denying the fun one could have from them with the right company around.

The blonde couldn't help but raise her eyebrows slightly at Chelsea's comments, impressed by the small woman—already it was plain to see that she wasn't cut of the same cloth as most fo them, but that still didn't meant her words were any less astounding. "Oh, card games I did a lot of in school. There was obviously UNO, its a classic for a reason, but we also enjoyed playing briscas during recess and lunch hour." Before they knew it the Delacorte Theater was finally upon them, Dayeon suggesting for the group to find a spot in the middle before Ari began to make a path for them among the crowd.

A hand had reached out to rest against his back as they began making their way into the crowd, causing the man to pause for a moment before his own reached out for her. A secure grip was given to her hand, his fingers interlocking with her own without hesitation, and the blonde couldn't help but smile quietly before giving his hand a firm squeeze.

"Oh man, Monopoly... talk about a friendship ender right there."

"Can't end a friendship if I don't have one in the first place."
Dayeon joked. That one time at a board game cafe, she legit saw someone slamming down his hand of cards and ragequit mid-game. Maybe board games are dangerous, after all.

The group positioned themselves near the middle. The crowd was surprisingly chill, allowing them to just stand there vibing to the music without getting pushed around. Dayeon quickly used this opportunity to pull out her phone, calling out to the group for a quick group photo.

"Guys! Look here! Smile!"

Snap!

jRKR3zn.png

"Ooh, no one blinked." The idol was surprised that the photo was perfectly taken in just a single take. Is this the power of the newest iPhone 24? "Here, tag yourselves. I'll add you guys later." She handed the phone to the group to tag their Instagram handle, passing it to Ari first.

"Welcome back ma'am."

A broad-shouldered man with a clean-shaven head and dark sunglasses looked back from the passenger seat as the driver closed the car door for Chelsea. The Nexon offered him a glare and blank expression as she returned her own glasses to her face.

"...It was a music festival. You can only expect so much."

She flipped back one of her twin-tails behind her shoulder and buckled her safety belt. It may have been strange for a young woman like her to have such a hairdo but she kept it for her mother and father's sake. Littletails was her nickname and her mother always wore them during her shows.

"I met Dayeon Song at this event. She is... okay. ...I might add her as a prospective connection."

Connection, in this case, meant something more than financial.

"Huh. Nice, I've heard her stuff. Isn't that Danielle girl also named Song? She's watching over you still."

A small curl of the lip on the large boned man's face as he turned back towards the windshield. He was once one of her father's closest bodyguards and has chosen to stay working with Chelsea even post Nexus Corporation. Her mother's impact on her life overall was decidedly small compared to her father but music would follow her everywhere in small ways.

Boo... she hated superstitious mumbo jumbo.

It wasn't something she cared for. Honestly, Chelsea wasn't sure what she cared for anymore. Pulling out her phone she looked at the picture she was sent. It was rare for her to take photos with people that weren't just business acquaintances or some other formal gathering.

In those, photos she was seen as a weirdo. A reject that failed to hold onto Nexus and had to start over. A child that should be treated as lesser for it. Her looks reinforced this so she spent her time working to stay relevant to herself and the world at large. This photo though... yeesh. She closed it and adjusted her glasses as she spoke to her driver.

"We are going to VRS. I have more work to do tonight."

"Understood ma'am."

Dayeon drew everyone's attention, holding a phone as she called for everyone to pose for a picture. The man wrapped his arm around Valeria, giving the camera lens a small smile before it flashed white. Ari blinked a couple times to clear his vision before leaning over small idol to look at the image. "Oh, nice," he commented. No need for retakes for once. That was pleasant surprise.

Ari took the phone from Dayeon to tag himself. "So, what exactly is Monster Siren?" he asked as he handed the phone to Valeria next. "I don't think I've ever heard of them before." Ari wouldn't have been surprised if they turned out to be fairly popular and he'd just never caught wind of them before. The man typically just let the Spotify radio guide his music experience, discovering new artists that way.

Dayeon had asked for them all to get together for a picture, and the blonde had been quick to comply with the request. She felt Ari’s arm wrap around her back, his hand resting on her shoulder, before the blonde leaned her head to rest on his shoulder as if it was the most natural thing in the world. A soft smile remained on her lips, before Valeria gave the camera a little wink just as the idol asked them to smile.

"That’s such a good picture~"

The phone was handed towards Ari first so the man could tag himself on the Instagram post that Dayeon had composed, the blonde unable to stop herself from commenting as she caught a glimpse of the picture. It was hard to believe that, just a few hours ago, none of them had known of each other—especially when a retake wasn’t even necessary despite being quite the spontaneous photo that Dayeon had aimed for.

Valeria happily took the phone when Ari passed it over, quickly tagging herself in the picture, before the device was held up for the next person to take. "Same, the name sounds vaguely familiar… but I can’t remember where I’ve heard it before." A common occurrence with most things in her life, really, Val often found she could remember scenes in movies and animations or lyrics to songs with ease… ask her about the title of a movie, song or even the name of an actor or artist and the girl’s mind was pilling blanks the majority of the time.
