Kyra

It had been a while since she'd been back to Honeyhome. Not that she had been avoiding the location in any way, simply that she had spent far more of her time at the emergency encampment in Lyrwick, helping those in need. She'd forgotten how small and homely the little settlement was; how it felt almost like a cottage country area of the world.

"And not nearly as noisy as any of the larger areas...that's definitely a nice bonus, too."

She skipped through the main corridor of the small hamlet, smiling at the few others she passed on her way. She'd been sent back to collect a number of materials that the local medical staff required for assisting the constantly influx of injured individuals in the encampment; a task that she had taken with a small amount of complaining. She would have preferred to stay and continue healing those in need, but the Powers To Be had decided against that, determining that her combative and defensive balance made her suited for the task of fetching materials.

"As if there aren't players, or even NPCs who couldn't handle this! I mean, how many willing magical healers do you see sitting around the encampment all the time, ready to spend their time just...healing? Few. Few is the answer. Very few. But let's send one of them off on a fetch quest, because why not? Seems smart. Super smart. Oh so-"

Her words came to an abrupt stop as she saw someone in the middle of the street that appeared familiar to her. For a moment, she remained still, head tilted to the left, ears twitching as she tried to recall where she'd seen that face before. The name came to her slowly, and when she did call out, she wasn't entirely sure she pronounced it correctly.

"Zuu...zuuulang? Zuulaang? From the forest? We dropped in together, right?"

if she were to be spotted in the middle of the road, most likely it was in mindless stupor. zhulong had her eyes affixed to a nearby street sign, the building it was attached to crafted from cobblestone and wood. brows furrowed, she was attempting to decipher the text upon it: a difficult task given its choice of lettering, never mind the apparent wear drowning out the paint from the board. to have her attention pulled away from it would've seemed like a miracle, too, but the player was familiar with what sounded like names being mispronounced, attributed her way, so she decided to shelve her thoughts for another time.

who was it that was looking for her?

"ah, kyra." the doe nodded, watching her acquaintance approach. "yes, from the forest. i remember."

"though, my name -- it's pronounced tzu-long, actually,"
she corrected as her companion got closer, arms folded, weight shifted to one side. methodical and stiff. a part of her even wanted to run over her horns once more, as though reenacting her actions from their first meeting. "tzu, like sun tzu's art of war, and long as in length. have you read it before?"

if a response had been given, zhulong would've listened, but otherwise the question had meant to be rhetorical. the corners of her face relaxed. "what brings you about these parts?"

She felt herself flush slightly as the other corrected the name. She mumbled an apology, before repeating the name a few times under her breath to make sure that she had it memorised. She shook her head at the question about having read sun tzu, a name that she wasn't familiar with aside from mention in a few media pieces.

"Oh, I'm actually here looking for certain supplies, as well as...err...a person who apparently needs some sort of medical assistance..."

She pulled out the parchment again, reading over it. The note had made limited amount of sense, but Kyra hadn't thought to ask for clarification before leaving. She flipped the note around, so that the other could read it - hoping that perhaps it would make some sort of sense to them.

Request of Assistance

To Whom Reads This;
I reach out, with the request of assistance. For those who are unaware, my name is Gregoire Demvoi, a minor influential from Honeyhome. I request assistance with a case most dire; one of a medical nature. Should you have, or know one who has, a skill within the healer's profession, please attend to the home on the western front. I will make it worth your while, this I promise.

Sincerely;
Gregoire Demvoi

Kyra gave another shrug, putting the note away once the other had glanced over it, before glancing around herself quickly. It had been a while since she'd been to Honeyhome, and although the area seemed friendly enough, Kyra felt lost.

"Erm...you wouldn't happen to know the area at all, would you? I...well, I've spent a lot of time at the Emergency Encampment, and well...I'm not entirely familiar with Honeyhome..."

a quick skim of the note was enough for the doe to fill herself in on the importance of kyra's visit. and yet, she felt stumped. for someone to label themselves a 'minor influential' somehow seemed odd to the player. just as well, she wasn't too certain she had any healing capabilities of her own. the doe hummed in consideration, as kyra took back the note to examine it herself.

"i've not been around much," the woman confessed. "so i can't say i'm familiar with any place around here. though we could explore honeyhome together." a small sigh left her as she spun around, looking to the sign of the building she'd been fixed on. she failed to focus on its lettering once again.

"... they say two pairs of eyes are better than one."

a slow blink, before she turned back to her companion. "and barring that, i'm sure we could always step inside establishments and ask for help. if this person in your notice is a 'minor influential' as they say, surely at least some of the locals would know of them."

"but i digress."
zhulong tucked a lock of hair behind her ear, gaze upon the letter. "are you a healer yourself, kyra? i unfortunately do not have the capabilities myself." there was a small clatter as her hand found the base of the hilt of her sword, weapon slung by her side. "but i wouldn't mind playing as some company while you work."

She smiled at the other, nodding as question and answer were provided. Her mind was wondering a bit, as she considered everything - not enough to derail the conversation, but enough that she realised she was losing focus. Dragging herself back, she tried answering everything that had been asked, as well as a few of the unspoken questions she thought she had heard.

"Help would definitely be appreciated...I've only been here a few times, and I'm still not entirely familiar with the area. You're right though, we could likely ask around as need be."

Her eyes scanned the area as she considered the numerous buildings around, trying to figure out where to even start. She was sure that someone around here must've known the named individual, but barging into the first building she spotted seemed like the wrong way to go about things.

"Oh...yeah! I built my build entirely around healing...I mean, I can use slash masteries for my scythe, but the rest is all based upon healing and support! It's...well, kind of my thing...I guess."

She smiled at the doe again, her teeth beaming out from behind her pulled back expression. The smile slowly faded as she realised they'd been standing in the middle of the road for quite some time already; far longer than was likely considered normal - although she had nothing to base this on beyond her own feelings.

"So...do we find this Gregoire first, or do we feel like hunting the wilds for some sparse herbs and plants and medicinal ingredients?"

"the option is up to me?" zhulong paused, tilting her head with a smile. "how strange. i'd assumed you'd be taking the lead, but i suppose i do have a stake in this adventure too, if i were to accompany you. well, let's see..."

"... in asking me,"
she continued, glancing to the doors of the establishment she'd been transfixed upon. "i'd probably say that finding the man in question first is for the better." a gaze upon kyra and a hand to gesture to her companion. "for example, i assume you've not met this 'gregoire' in person before, have you? likely, someone to send out a call for aid in this manner would be cooped up in quarantine. though, i may be projecting my own unfamiliarity with the world upon you."

"the other is out of efficiency. though," the doe paused, considering kyra's build and the in-world mechanics. "if it's in your ability to heal and support, would the cure for his condition even require herbs?" two blinks, the woman without an answer for her own question, before zhulong's curiosity simmered. "well, if it came to that end, i'll help scavenge around with you."

the player took a couple of steps forward, towards the building they were in front of. a small turn around, and she beckoned kyra with a hand. "now, come on. i can ask, you follow. though, i hope you don't mind explaining to anyone who asks why we're looking for gregoire." her sights were then set on the sign once more, as she ascended the wooden stairs, voice low. "though what kind of shop even is this...?"

Kyra listened as the other woman spoke, almost enthralled by the logical connections being made. Sure, most of it was just well perceived conjecture, but to come to conclusions so quickly, and with limited knowledge of the entire situation. Well, that in itself was beyond average, if not special.

She nodded and shrugged as the other offered her hand, beckoning Kyra forward. Her eyes glanced over the building in front of them, catching the image of the scissors and knife in the window, before seeing the wares on display - collections of tanned hides, tools that appeared to be designed for a specific purpose, as well as numerous pelts. For a moment, Kyra reeled away in shock and disgust, before remembering that she herself wasn't actually a member of any of the displayed families.

And even if I was...I'm not. I'm a human being, playing a game, where I'm a beastfolk...I'm not really one of them. She shook her head, suddenly disturbed by how involved she'd become. Was she losing sight on reality?

"Well...I would say this is a tannery of some sort. Leatherwork, hides, all the good stuff. Great place for beastfolk, right?"

She smiled at the other, hoping her joke wouldn't be misinterpreted. Trying to move on past the shock she'd given herself, she stepped up to the door, knocking gently before waiting patiently. It took a moment for anyone to answer, the sound of footsteps coming after a few brief seconds of silence.

"Ah, hello! How may I help you two ladies today?"

Kyra gave a soft smile up at the man, his well-placed appearance seemingly friendly and welcoming. She wondered how best to approach the topic, before deciding to be upfront and honest. Honesty always works, right?

"Well...I'm looking for a man known as Gregoire Demvoi. I received a letter that he was requesting assistance, and well...I'm new to the area. We both are, actually, and were hoping that someone around here would know him."

The man's welcoming, friendly appearance suddenly took a dark turn - not anger, but definitely far less welcoming than it had originally been as his brow furrowed, and a slight frown appeared across his face. Kyra felt her heart speed up ever so slightly, and her hands drifted towards her sides in response.

"Hmm...well, I do know the name, although not personally. He lives on the west side of the town, out on the edges a bit. You'll recognise the house almost immediately. I...recommend caution, when approaching. Cursed area, that one."

Before Kyra could ask anything further, the man turned and closed the door, providing no further details and no goodbyes. Turning with wide eyes towards Zhulong, she shrugged, before speaking.

"Well, at least we know where we're going now?"
