Hanno smiled at the fact they were finally being accepted, and then at the hold of Harveste on his hand, making him turn to look at her with a warm expression as he nodded. "We will save Petho, no matter what." He said, gently touching the doorframe and feeling the mana entrailing in him.

The countdown message slowly faded away, settling that Harveste and Hanno were now safe to stay in that plane as long as they needed.

His eyes rested on the shrine, with his mana wings appearing and fluttering for a moment as he offered a bit of his energy to the shrine, hoping the spirits in it would enjoy it.

Shifting his attention to the two mushroom folk, Hanno finally questioned: "Where can we find Petho? We need to have clues on where to look for him."

Looking at the resolve from both faerins, the woman felt a vague hope for a moment, yet, she didn't want to accept it fully right away. "Nawa... Bring those two to where Petho disappeared, then come back home right away." The woman pursed her lips, taking the necklace she had in her, detaching from her, and approaching Hanno to give it in his hand.

"This necklace has a picture of Petho, so you will know when you find him..." She said, taking a step behind before breathing quietly.

Nawa looked up at her auntie, nodding sheepishly before turning to look at Harveste.

"C-Come with me, big sis..." She said, taking a step forward and glancing back to see if the two would follow her before darting off hurriedly, moving away from the buildings entrailed by mushrooms, and soon approaching to the outskirts of the town.

As the three went farther from the town, the surrounding walls and biome became more open, and that strange plane became clearer in front of their eyes. Fungi Kingdom reigned that place effortlessly, creating a unique ambient that even Isulus felt underwhelming.

The humidity was strong, enough to be slightly suffocating for those that weren't meant to live in there.

The message slowly faded away, letting the small Faerin let out a sigh of relief. Good, they could take on the mission now- a mission she seemed to find greatly important, for reasons even she didn't understand. As the mushroom woman seemed to begin to accept their good will, she gave a cheerful smile. "We'll protect Nawa the entire way. Rest assured."

She felt a little weird being called 'big sis', but smiled warmly to Nawa as she followed the rushing girl into the outskirts of the mushroom town. The mushrooms seemed to be getting larger, and the air was even more moist than it had been from the first portal. She found herself coughing into her free hand from time to time, remembering some of the times she'd gone to Florida to visit relatives. Even that place wasn't as musky- and she could smell here, which made it both interesting and worse.

As the area began to open up, Harveste tried to scan the area for anything of interest or peculiarly placed. Nothing looked 'natural' to her here, however- it felt too bizarre to fit the realm of understanding she had grown accustomed to in Terrasphere. This place was of its own level.

She continued to follow Nawa, keeping close to Hanno in the process. I hope it's not much farther... This damp air is suffocating... How does Nawa seem able to breathe so easily? It's kind of amazing...

With a firm nod, Hanno agreed on protecting Nawa all the way to the place she would leave them, following her and having Harveste right next to him, soon starting to feel the effects of the humid air. He couldn't lie, the smell was terrible and he was struggling to deal with it, but that was nothing compared to the fear that the little, kidnapped boy was probably feeling.

He could feel the air growing rougher, and noticing Harveste's coughs, he tugged his scarf off his neck and wrapped it around her neck, tugging it to gently cover part of her mouth and nose, hoping it would help at least with the smell.

Then, he made sure to wrap them around a divine force field, something that would hopefully get any noxious air away from them.

"This will be tougher than I thought. So let me know whenever it is too much for you, alright?" He asked, looking at her while following the girl, that soon would catch their attention.

Eventually, Nawa stopped and looked at a tree, taking a while before turning to look at both of them. "I-It was here where he disappeared... Just after that big mushroom." She pointed at a giant magenta chanterelle.

"After that mushroom, there is no more magic protection from the town." She said, fidgeting for a moment and looking up at both of the faerins, wondering what they would do next.

The smaller Faerin let out a muffled thank you when Hanno wrapped his scarf around her. She felt bad needing to borrow it but was grateful he was willing to let her for the sake of dealing with the horrible stench. She kept close to both him and the little girl leading them, prepared to sing as soon as necessary.

When they arrived at the scene, roughly, Harveste wandered towards the giant chanterelle. Normally confident in her ability to communicate with plants and fungi, Harveste was oddly nervous near the giant mushroom. Was it because it was so very massive?

Still, she hummed a gentle melody to communicate with the mushroom, asking it to tell her which way Petho went. Putting her hand on the purple mushroom, she smiled softly at it, hoping to show it she meant no harm to the area. She begged it for a hint, any hint. Something told her she wasn't going to get an answer.

"Please... Help us find Petho..." She kept asking it. Would it listen?

Hanno smiled warmly to Harveste's thankful words, giving her a gentle nudge shoulder to shoulder, happy to see that she was feeling better with the scarf.

As they approached the mushrooms, Hanno could notice Harveste's nervousness, though he wasn't able to voice anything that would calm her heart at the moment. "So after that mushroom we don't have any more protection, hm..." Hanno crossed his arms, shifting a glance to see and her Harveste's prays for the giant mushroom.

For a moment, he frowned, noticing some magic flickering as a response to Harvete's prayers, soon starting to trace a route with other smaller mushrooms in its surroundings brimming and making a trail. Hanno was able to spot it with his magic vision, something that he could guess that Harveste may have missed.

"Seems like that big mushroom likes you. Its cousins are showing us our way." He gestured toward the trail of magic mushrooms, remembering that she could smell magic just as he could see it.

"It goes far out of the town though, so..." Hanno glanced to the little girl. "It is better for you to stay in here, buddy. But we will save Petho, you can be sure of it." He grinned confidently, then casting a glance to Harveste, nudging her for them to follow the path.

"A-Ah..." She opened her hands as if trying to grab one of their sleeves but halted herself... And then...

Despite both of them already having to move outside of the town's outskirts, it didn't seem like Nawa had any intention of turning to walk back home, instead, she seemed to tail right behind Harveste and Hanno.

It wasn't that she was worried to have no protection from the fungi of the area- though that certainly would concern her normally, since her magic focused on things like trees and mushrooms. Her worries were mostly 'would they get there in time'. They no longer had a timer telling them how long they had left in this plane- but the clock could still be ticking for the little boy they were in a hurry to save.

What soothed her most was Hanno's next words. The mushroom was showing its favor, and as she sniffed the spot the man had nudged her towards, she could recognize it herself. A broad smile was hidden on her face by the scarf around her as she thanked the giant mushroom and its cousins for the guidance, before turning back to look at Hanno, nodding to him.

She turned to look at Nawa. "Leave finding Petho to us. It'd be no good if you got hurt too. We'll all come back safe and sound, so please have faith in us, okay?" With a soft expression, she turned back to follow the path with Hanno. Too busy sniffing the path out as it moved, she didn't hear a single footstep behind them. It was a sound she would regret missing- but she couldn't help it. Not yet.

Moving further, Hanno similarly paid no attention to any steps from behind, mostly because after going farther from the protection of the town, their senses seemed to numb.

Their noses and ears stuffed, and their eyes started to feel watery and burned slightly. It wasn't a matter of a bad smell anymore, something was definitely wrong with the ambient they were in. That biome, that ecosystem... It didn't belong to creatures like them.

"Are you hanging in there..?" Hanno tried to ask close to Harveste's ears, keeping her close while pursing his lips and then trying to look at her eyes with a concerned expression, mouthing what he had asked if necessary.

They needed to do something about it before it started becoming unbearable, especially considering the dangers that were lurking around and could tackle them at any moment. They should be fully aware of their surroundings.

Harveste and Hanno must work together if they want to endure the unwelcoming atmosphere. They must make a Supportive or Defensive Mastery Check (Alter included) of their choice for the next three cycles.

They cannot use the same Mastery more than once, and they must a total of 400 points by the end of the three cycles. If they fail, a certain event will occur to the one who scored the lowest on total between the two of them.

Her face was slightly red, and she wasn't sure if it was from how close he was or the fact that her nose felt like it was being burned from the inside out. "I-I'll be okay," she said, pulling the scarf down so he'd be able to see what she mouthed. She immediately covered up her face with a palm as she felt herself about to cough. The air felt suffocating and troublesome. She had to try something, anything.

Her song didn't feel easy to use, however. With her airways feeling caught on fire, she opted to try just focusing instead. But, instead of creating an air barrier like she tried to, she instead caught a whiff of another person. Turning around, she noticed Nawa and ran to her side.

"What are you doing here, Nawa? You need to head back home. It's dangerous here. How are you even breathing?" Without thinking, she hugged the girl close to her.

Hanno looked at Harveste's face and words worriedly. She clearly didn't seem okay despite her words, and he couldn't help but feel a hint of guilt in his chest. He probably should've taken this mission by himself, but at the same time, he needed to trust Harveste's capabilities. She was strong, he couldn't pamper everyone, not even someone that mattered so much to him as she did.

Suddenly, Harveste seemed to change her path, going backward and making Hanno follow with his eyes and attention, noticing the little girl once again.

"Nawa?!" Hanno frowned, approaching quickly and with concern in his eyes.

"You shouldn't disobey your aunt, she will get so worried..." He said, gritting his teeth while feeling the smell and pressure increase the longer they stayed there.

Focusing, he closed his eyes, trying to create an aura around all of the three, hoping to give them some personal magical coat that could maybe get the three of them safe from any infection.

The girl was clearly caught by surprise when Harveste approached, though the stiffness from her muscles relaxed when Harveste hugged her, first and fore most.

"Y-You aren't mad..?" She asked, returning the hug, albeit sheepishly.

"... I-I can't let the two of you go alone. I... I want to save my brother too." She said with a shaky voice.

When Nawa asked if she was mad, hugging her back, Harveste couldn't help tightening her hold of the little girl just a bit. "I'm not mad. Just worried. You know the danger here even more than we do, after all." She gave Nawa a gentle kiss on the forehead (when she figured out where that was) and smiled softly, rubbing the top of the mushroom that was part of the little girl before her. "Nawa is a sweet girl. We already know that. That's part of why we want to protect you so badly. You and Petho."

Standing up, she sang a song again- this time inviting faeries to the party through her 'summon'. The faeries were holding small fruits, giving one to each of them before fading out of existence. "I asked the faeries in my song to bring us something to snack on that would boost our immune systems. These should help us fight against whatever is in the air that's making it so hard to breathe."

She took a bite and grimaced. "Warning, they're a bit bitter."

Hanno watched the heartwarming scene between Harveste and the girl with a faint smile, though there wasn't much time to appreciate it, with the air starting to crush his lungs in a way, making him wince until Harveste came up with summoned faeries and their fruits, catching Hanno's attention quickly.

"Huh- That's cool. It is how they say, the best way to win someone is with their stomach." Hanno muttered, taking one of the fruits and smiling thankfully at her, and tossing a small fruit into his mouth as he focused his sight on the little girl.

"You seem just fine breathing this bad air... Is there anything we can do for ourselves? What is even in that village that protect you all from all of this anyway?" Hanno asked, fluttering his wings and allowing a bit more of Rhiannon's divine protection to surround them, hoping to purify their bodies from any harm that those spores could be doing to them.

The girl's cheeks turned red at the kiss on her head, making her tug her mushroom cap down to hide her face a bit, averting her body. "... U-Uhm... Still..." She muttered, then widening her eyes, being surprised by the faeries appearing with the fruits.

"We... We don't have as much hard time breathing, but it isn't as nice as the town's air." The girl said to Harveste, taking the fruit with a grateful nod and gently taking a bite of it and looking up at Hanno. "In the village, my auntie and the other village adults use special magic to hide the village from monsters and the ugly ones... And make a good air that won't turn us into ugly ones." Nawa explained, soon frowning and averting her eyes to look in a specific direction before widening her eyes.

"A-Ah! A spore storm-!" She warned, pointing at what would look like to be a sandstorm, except it was made out of several fungal particles, coming relentlessly in their direction.

When Nawa pointed out the storm of fungal spores coming their way, Harveste stopped worrying for just the little girl's safety. There were three of them, and many more spores- this was an unfair fight, if it even was a fight. With a deep breath, she let out another song- this time, one that would call local animals for aid. When the animals heard her plea, they came to aid the trio by wrapping themselves around the three like a shield or forcefield.

Tearing slightly from the kindness of the animals, Harveste thanked her friendly aids for hearing her plea. They all faced her, seeming to smile. She was lucky to be good with animals, even if these were ones she didn't know well at all.

Curiosity was killing her slowly. "Say, Nawa, what does a spore storm generally do?" She had a bad feeling, but wanted to make sure she wasn't just jumping to conclusions willy-nilly. There was a lot about this plane she didn't know, after all. There was a lot she had to learn, and Nawa was the only one who could teach her.

'Make a good air that won't turn us into ugly ones' was the main thing that caught Hanno's attention on the little girl's words, and when she called the attention to the storm, he gritted his teeth.

"Regardless of the case, this doesn't look good. Come on!" Hanno said, grabbing Harveste and Nawa, holding both of them close to him before calling: "Ghast!" He exclaimed, and his shield rumbled with tentacles growing on its sides, and one huge dissonant central eye opening. "Kukuku..." The shield rumbled, widening its form to protect the three of them along with the animals Harveste had summoned, blocking most of the storm that clashed against the protection the group had.

Gritting his teeth, Hanno braced himself feeling the pressure of the storm trying to push them away, but he kept firm on his feet while marching against the dangerous spores that were being blocked, holding the other two tightly to make sure no one would be dragged away.

The animals seemed mostly unharmed by the storm, with their traits making the 'why' rather obvious.

When the storm passed, Hanno felt his stiffened muscles relax, breathing a sigh and looking to the animals, smiling faintly. "Thanks for the help... You too, buddy." He said to the animals and to his shield, that rumbled back and remained awaken for now, then glancing at the two girls. "And you? Are you two okay?"

Without having time to answer Harveste immediately, Nawa yelped when she was tugged close to the faerin knight, widening her eyes in surprise when the shield seemed to move.

When the storm came, she braced herself for the worst, with tears in her eyes. But the work of the two faerins together kept her safe for most of part, and when the sound of the storm was gone, she looked at her own hands surprised that she was still fine. "Th-Thank you, miss and mister... I am okay." She said, looking up at both of them before fidgeting and casting a glance at Harveste.

"S-Spore storms are when the bad spores get together. U-Usually being caught in one is what turns us into ugly ones." The girl said, holding her chest in relief that she was protected by the two of them.

Harveste was surprised when she was pulled closer to the other two, but smiled beneath the scarf she was borrowing from Hanno. His protectiveness had always surprised her, but it was pleasant and comforting. She kept close to Nawa even when being held, however, wanting to help protect the little girl from the storm. Especially when she heard it was spores like these that turned her people into aberrations.

"I-I'm okay," the little Faerin chirped, smiling to Hanno and giving him a hand signal of some sort to show she was completely fine. "I'm so glad Nawa is okay too." She hugged the little girl close to her, smiling. "I really am so glad you're okay... This is why we wanted you to head back. Things like this are bound to continue happening, Nawa... Are you really certain you want to risk yourself? We told you, we'll save Petho ourselves..."

She glanced to Hanno, frowning. "Though it was Nawa who warned us... We're really lucky she followed us this far, but I'm worried..."

A sigh of relief escaped Hanno's lips, seeing that both girls were okay, it was small comfort in the hell that place was turning into. The smell was particularly bad, and Hanno's sight was already tired of seeing so many magical stimuli, but it seemed like they had settled in a way that things wouldn't be as harmful to them as before.

He looked at Harveste tightening Nawa in a hug, offering a small smile, and taking a step closer to Nawa as well, resting a hand on her shoulder while Haveste had her in her arms.

"What Harveste is saying is true, Nawa. I feel... My instincts tell me that the danger is coming to us at any moment. It will probably be a bit deadly in a way." Hanno said, casting a glance at Harveste and frowning his lips.

"You've really helped us right now, but we also can't put you at risk... I will try to protect you in the best way I can since I can't force you to go back. But please... Be aware of what we are telling you." Hanno said, looking at the smaller girl firmly.

The warnings from both faerins, and the constant reminder of what could've been her death made Nawa's expressions falter for a moment.

After a moment, she squeezed Harveste in her hug. "I-I want to save Petho... I... I can smell him if we are close, I know him very well, more than auntie, more than mama too." She closed her eyes. "If you want me to go, I will though, th-this time I will obey."

It was now up to the faerin, what they would decide was the best. Though one or both of them would need to escort the girl back to the town.

Harveste hated decisions as it was, but she hated this one the most. "We can't just let her go back alone... But I don't want to leave your side..." She mumbled her thought process aloud. They'd already gotten this far, and it was clear to her that Nawa's worries wouldn't go away unless she saw this through herself. Harveste knew a lot about having anxiety. Sometimes, being told everything would be okay made things feel ten times worse. Smiling sadly, she finally caved in.

"Nawa... You have to promise me that if you come with us, you'll find a way out of there if it gets too dangerous. I'm not willing to lose you to an aberration. Or to anything else, for that matter." She rubbed the girl's head gently and stood as tall as her short legs would let her, glancing up to Hanno. "We'll both do our best to protect you... But you need to promise you'll cherish yourself enough to get away when the time arises."

She had to admit, having Nawa with them would make things a bit easier. Sure, they had one more person to protect, but they also had someone who knew Petho infinitely better than they did- and depending on the situation, they might just need that understanding of him.

"Shall we continue onward?"

Hanno half opened his mouth, feeling his cheeks warming at Harveste's words and resting a hand on her shoulder, rubbing it gently. "I will do what I can to keep both of you safe, and as long as you try to keep Nawa safe too, we can keep her fine. I'm sure." Hanno said, then casting a glance to Nawa, hoping that she would listen to Harveste's words wisely while he added his own:

"We aren't in here to see any of you, or ourselves, getting hurt. We are here to save someone, and we can't get someone hurt for it. Everyone's well being counts." Hanno said, firmly looking at Nawa's eyes before showing her a confident smile.

"I have to say though, as worried as I am, your courage is amazing." Hanno said, encouraging before nudging for the two of them to follow. "Alright, let's do it."

The mushroom girl tugged her cap down, hiding her red face from the two faerins and fidgeting for a moment before looking up at them.

"Y-Yes... I promise I won't get on you two's way... Or anything." She nodded, just as the two of them started to take a path deeper into the mushroom foreign lands.

The path grew into something less welcoming. The variety of colors and life that existed before soon turned into something more putrefying. A dangerous-looking magenta covered most of the area, and the air felt even heavier than before, with strange fauna and flora appearing, mostly corrupted by whatever those 'bad spores' did...

Every step felt like slippery mud, with viscous liquid splashing on the feet, an unpleasing experience for those that lacked boots.

Albeit, Nawa didn't seem to mind touching it with her bare feet, her nose twitched in high activity, looking around while she remained mostly attentive, gesturing for the two to follow her while she pointed out potential dangers and shortcuts.

The path to the next checkpoint will be a dangerous one, and obstacles will exist all the way through it. During it, Harveste and Hanno must make an Expertise Checks that can't be repeated. If all five experise types are used and the two of them don't complete the bar, an event will be triggered.

Since Nawa is still with the group, Harveste and Hanno both receive +10 bonus on the Expertise Checks, since she is guiding them.

On top of that, every cycle has the chance of an obstacle occurring, which is decided by rolling a 1d20:
  • (1-10) Nothing happens.
  • (11-14) Difficult terrain, expertise rolls receive a -30 penalty.
  • (15-18) Dangerous terrain, everyone (including Nawa) receives 20 damage.
  • (19-20) Spore storm. Another spore storm occurs, either one of the group forfeit an expertise check to protect the group from it, or everyone must roll a DC 80 Fortitude Save against an unknown effect.

"Family is precious, after all," Harveste mused as Hanno commended Nawa for her bravery. "It's good to see someone so caring for their sibling. My family fights all the time to the point I don't know if they'd actually go to save each other in a situation like this. I want to think they would, but... Who knows with people, really?"

The girl held a hand out to Nawa, offering to hold the little girl's in return. Whether Nawa agreed to it or not, Harveste would happily follow her lead, keeping her nose in the air for any peculiar magic that filled her nostrils. Of course, nothing really smelled 'usual' in this peculiar biome... Was there really a point to her nose at a time like this?

Glancing at Hanno for a minute, she couldn't help smiling despite the scary situation they were in. She felt oddly safe, and warm- the latter likely because of the thick air and the scarf around her neck. Without thinking, she started humming- which seemed to help keep some of the fauna of the land from taking an interest in them. Or at least, she hoped it was that helpful.

"Yeah, that's right." Hanno smiled at Harveste's words, agreeing completely with them. Knowing how brave Nawa was, despite being of such a young age, was certainly something that made Hanno feel warm. She would certainly become an amazing woman in the future.

There was, however, a brief reminder of the 'true' nature of Terrasphere, making the faerin be struck with a moment of uncertainty that he quickly brushed off, especially when noticing Harveste's look at him, making Hanno smile back at her warmly, even if the thoughts still poked his mind...

The idea that Nawa and the others were just NPCs.

Were they? At that point, Hanno felt like the answer was much more complicated than he could consider.

At some point, they reached a thicker area, and Hanno took a step forward, trying to brute force his way through while using Ghast as a way to shove their path open.

"I love my brother... Th-There is nothing else I could think of doing if not helping him..." She admitted with flushing cheeks.

Nawa held Harveste's hand, keeping it tight even when she was guiding them through the depths of the mushroom forest.

As she guided, she noticed the quietness, casting a glance at Harveste, noticing she was looking at the other faerin for a while, then tilting her head slightly in curiosity while staring at the older woman intently.

Harveste and Hanno both receive +10 bonus on the Expertise Checks from Nawa.

Every cycle has the chance of an obstacle occurring, which is decided by rolling a 1d20:
  • (1-10) Nothing happens.
  • (11-14) Difficult terrain, expertise rolls receive a -30 penalty.
  • (15-18) Dangerous terrain, everyone (including Nawa) receives 20 damage.
  • (19-20) Spore storm. Another spore storm occurs, either one of the group forfeit an expertise check to protect the group from it, or everyone must roll a DC 80 Fortitude Save against an unknown effect.

She could feel herself being stared at when she was looking at Hanno, and curiously turned to look at Nawa with a smile. "Something on your mind, Nawa? Besides what I already know, I mean." A soft giggle escaped her. But, as she was looking closely at Nawa now and not the path ahead of her, Harveste missed the clear sign that the terrain was getting more treacherous. Sharp rocks, jagged and tall, were starting to stick out of the ground.

Without looking, she passed by one particularly sharp rock and winced, having scraped her leg up pretty good.

"Ow... I guess I should really focus on where I'm going..." The woman laughed nervously, hoping not to cause Hanno or Nawa to worry that much. On the bright side, it was just a scrape still- there was no more than a small dot of blood, which didn't seep or trickle. "You two learn from me and be careful, okay?"
