It's hard to imagine that behind the poker face purple haired character is someone who is looks pretty cheerful on the outside. Rather the outlet of an online avatar has allowed Kanako to embrace a side of her she had been desperately pushing aside, the feeling of being dead inside.
However that doesn't mean she will engage in suicidal tendencies. She simply loathes her existence and wishes sometimes she can just not exist for a few moments to get the peace and quiet she wants from her life. A pessimistic positivity some would say. The glass is half empty but she'll make sure to hydrate.
Regardless of her inner turmoil, she's willing to put herself on the line for the sake of others. From heroics to saving a cat from a tree, as long as her values and morals are being tested by the outside, she'll seek the path she believes is righteous. Loyalty to a cause and friendship motivates her to continue on the path of a simple hero.
The icy cold mask can't hide her actions. If you are hungry, she's strongly tempted to pass you a piece of her meal. If her wallet has money, she'll donate what she can to the poor. She even donate an amount of charity no matter how small through fundraisers and campaigns. Her kindness isn't shown on her face, it's shown in her actions. If you need a friend, she'll be there to listen.

Background
Born in the Fukushima prefecture, Okūma was her home town for many years, till a disaster uprooted her schooling, her family and her precious mementos of the town. She lost many things, friends, family and even items she cherished. After facing such a challenge, it was hard to keep a smile afterwards.
With a bit of therapy, Kanako eventually gained some degree of normalcy to herself. Her survivor's guilt had toned down and she managed to get herself back into education and the workforce. By the time she was 19, she had graduated from culinary school and started work in several culinary establishments from restaurants to izakayas. However many lay her off due to her occasional depressive streak.
That was until she enter Two Spoons. Two Spoons was a Western Rustic cafe located in Hokkaido that took her in. The calm, down to earth and cottagecore design of the place helped her maintain her mental health and healed her quietly. It was then the owner's daughter, would pass a headset and a game to her. Terrasphere.
It started with simple curiosity, she never did play video games in her childhood. However she would get hooked. Something about the gameplay clicked for her. Something about Terrasphere made her happy to continue. While she always remembered to take a break and log off, she tends to constantly having Terrasphere on her mind.
