Personality

Toward others, Gwyn is rather detached in more serious social interactions. Her eyes are generally on the world around her, lest she miss something, and her opinions are straightforward. She's blunt and to the point about things, even if it might come across as rude, but rarely with the intention of doing so. Her compassion is tempered with a caution she once lacked. Gwyn is happy to teach those that ask, help those that need it, and protect those that cannot do so themselves. She just watches her own back a little closer in their presence. Loyalty to others is won through action, not by the merit or words or passage of time and this belief has been firmly cemented while in Terrasphere. To fight at her side and face down fate with her? That is the only bond she sees worth forging. Like a pack of wolves, be her strength and you'll have her's.

There was a time when Gwyn was a whirlwind of potential, bold and wild with a notable lack of self-preservation. She started the game as a fearless and thrill-seeking junkie of sorts, finally free from her injury IRL, and happy to fall in combat or exploration so long as she was bettered by it in the end. She believed furiously that death wasn't permanent there and so everyone should be willing to press on against adversity. You don't gain experience in life by side-stepping challenges, after all. If she had to fail a thousand times, she'd make sure to succeed on attempt one thousand and one.

Things have changed. She still lives for the challenge and loses herself in the wild pulse of blood in her veins and pouring from wounds in the hunt. A shadow is cast on her optimism though, leaving her valiantly fighting the pessimism that whispers ill things in the back of her mind. Gwyn has seen horrible things happen, has done horrible things herself, and suffered like many others. Gwyn- no, Sabine has, for the first time in her life, known fear. Three strikes, and you're out and Gwyn's already got two.

Positive: Adaptive, Protective, Honest, Brave
Negative: Stubborn, Defiant, Bitter, Aggressive

Background

From a young age, Sabine was a wild child through and through. She played sports throughout her childhood, from soccer to softball to track and lacrosse. Her family often moved because of the nature of military work, but she wasn't too bothered. Her sisters constantly had to make new friends, while she found herself on a new team with a quickly formed bond between teammates. When they were shipped off to a base in California, things changed and Sabine found the outdoors. Be it with a group or by herself, she'd take off on weekends all throughout her last year of high school to go climbing and camping in the state and national parks, always looking for a new challenge for herself. When she graduated, it wasn't college that called. And it certainly wasn't settling down.

Sabine took a job with a company that ran tours through various state and national parks all over the world, and she took to it easily. She got to make money learning new places and showing people places she'd already tread the paths of, and taking part in competitions on occasion. There was no greater joy to the middle Bertrand daughter, even if her sisters poked fun at her living out of a car. Things have a way of changing, however. On a lone run, climbing an old haunt of hers, a rock gave way. Out of familiarity, she was careless with her holds and Sabine fell for her folly. She was lucky not to be paralyzed or dead. A dazed call on her cell had a climbing buddy headed her way, but her right leg and hip had taken a beating and multiple fractures left her unable to walk, much less climb.

Her father, settled in New Jersey and divorced from her mother for a few years, offered to help her pay for an apartment and physical therapy if she'd move close enough for him to help her. She accepted. They found a physical therapist, a new GP, and a small studio apartment for her to begin the long recovery. Sabine was sure she'd go mad with cabin fever before she healed. That is, until the day she came home from a therapy session to find an odd email awaiting her.

Sabine went from having never touched a video game in her life to earning herself glory, gold, and a fair amount of trauma as one of the top DPS players in Terrasphere. What started as a simple ranger, nothing more than a vehicle to let her climb unimpeded by her recovery, became a lethal name in the company of legends. Gwyn ap Herne. In the game she found unparalleled drive, loyal friends, loathed foes, and even a love of her own.

When the lockout hit, Sabine was forced to return to her physical therapy and work. What had become her whole life had been snatched away without warning. In time her mobility returned, and so she returned to work. The passion paled in comparison. Sabine eventually was contacted by a group reconnecting Terrasphere players and, more importantly, informing friends and families of the fates of those who had been locked in or died in game. Never one to remain in place, Sabine packed up the truck and hit the road to knock on doors while running from her own losses in Terrasphere. Then came the link.

Gwyn ap Herne is a primarily ranged huntress. She uses her keen Hyper Sense to balance her own awareness and capabilities in combat through her Ranged Weapons strikes, dangers toward herself or companions using Guard Arts with potent will-induced antimagic zones, and to spot enemies that close into range and force her to switch to powerful Martial Arts when her bow is no longer viable. To supplement her lack of frontline support to slow enemy approach to aid those closer to engagement, Gwyn uses a host of creatures whose loyalty she’s earned and talents she’s trained through Beast Arts. For support, from healing to buffs, Gwyn entirely relies upon allies to bolster her. Her goal is largely to mark and focus-fire enemies to prevent them lasting long enough to deal any true damage in the first place. Outside active combat, she relies heavily on her beast tames for utility to cover her beyond her natural physical prowess. Her inclination toward the hunt often translates to near-Beastfolk levels of sensitivity and predatory instinct when her attention catches onto a trail.

Equipment Tags

Ember Arch (Longbow). A weapon that glows and hisses with heated cinders, ground into the grains of the ancient, wooden longbow's arms. Soot gradually coats the wielder's hands.
Scalemail of the Usurper of Queens (Medium Armor). A set of leather armor reinforced with heirloom metal pieces reforged into scaled plates, some are still reminiscent of the shards of shattered crowns they're sourced from.

Trait Description
Shadowbound. Shadowed figures haunt Gwyn, most often when alone in the wilds without enough anchors to ground and distract her. Some take shapes almost familiar, but all are featureless and unsettling to her, especially after her death at the hands of a Shadow wielding a sword made of the same.

Code:
Law of Club and Fang

(Utility) Gwyn’s taming ability is based on an agreement of mutual benefit, rather than using the mastery to enchanting beasts to love or respect her. A solo combat is engaged between the two, with a pact formed upon the defeat of the tame in question. Some quest-based interactions do not require conflict, as respect is earned prior to a taming attempt.
Code:

Constrict

(Status Attack / Defense Utility) Gwyn selects an enemy or ally to be targeted by Nathair. Enemies are painfully wrapped in coils and slowly crushed, while allies are covered to provide protection until the tame is dealt with. Allies may freely leave the effect, but enemies suffer movement restrictions.
Code:

Swallow

(Attack) Enemies trapped by Constrict can be targeted by Swallow, allowing Nathair to consume foes under their lowest health threshold - depending on enemy difficulty. Loot can be immediately regurgitated upon enemy death.
Code:
Point Person

(Utility) An improved and empowered version of the standard Investigation Mode, backed by the skill and insight that attuned Hypersense offers. The tracks, weaknesses, whispered conversations, hidden locations, and the like of enemies and allies one and all are easy pickings. Gwyn's eyes gain the light-reflecting effect of tapetum lucidum while active.
Code:

Fox Walking

(Utility) While not as advanced as other masteries, this Hypersense version of stealth is still more adept than others by leaps and bounds. Staying out of sight, leaving no trace, and skulking in the shadows of prey are easy tasks given time and training. Gwyn's eyes gain the light-reflecting effect of tapetum lucidum while active.
Code:
Fighting Style

(Utility) There exist many kinds of martial arts, but only one that connects all people. Dirty fighting. When forced into melee combat, Gwyn abandons her bow and turns into a bare-knuckled brawler. She prefers to mimic boxing, focusing on using her upper body strength already honed from archery. Low blows are fair game.
Code:

Daze

(Status Attack) Gwyn aims to stun her opponents to give herself an opening, breathing room, or to offer allies a better strike. From powerful haymakers to clapping enemies over their ears, she'll do what needs to be done.
Code:

Disarm

(Utility Attack) If she has to abandon her longbow, then you'll be losing your weapon as well. To level the playing field, or put it in her own favor, Gwyn makes attempts to twist swords from hands, knock aside shields, or break wrists and arms entirely.
Code:
Denial

(Defense Utility) Magic is worked by convincing the world something is different and so it is thwarted by refusing to see it as so. This passive allows for effectively tanking magical damage.
Code:

Silence

(Status Effect) Any attack, be it by a weapon or by the body, can be Silenced. This Spellbane skill of Guard Arts allows the user to interrupt and interfere with a caster's spells and magical ability. Its effectiveness is heavily decided by the respective difference in powers of the attacker and caster.
