He would up his ear rubbing game, doing his best to illicit more sounds of pleasure from the lovely lagomorph. "Melt it?" He would raise an eyebrow. "That...might just work..." He would remove his hands from her ears, drawing an instinctual pout from the woman as he turned to inspect the crystal. His few hits at the base had taken a solid chunk of it out. Rubbing his chin, he would take a deep breath and begin to glow softly. He would imagine the flame in his palm again, drawing a flame into it.

Inhale, Exhale.

Like a forge, he would breathe slowly, causing the flame to grow brighter and hotter with each repetition. Like the hag, he would think, like the hemomancer. You are a blowtorch. Slice through it. He would feel the flame growing hotter and hotter in his hand. He would clench his hand tighter, constricting the flame and creating more pressure. He would take a deep breath, feeling the pressure build up. Once he was satisfied with the pressure, he would crack fingers apart and allow a beam of bright blue plasma to course from his hand and hiss away at the metal.

"I would advise not looking directly at it." He would quip, a bit of sweat dripping down the side of his face from exertion. "Might scorch your retina..."

Someone was melting alright...

"Mmmmmm~"

Toko couldn't help the soft hums as the Felis continued to rub the base of her ears in a circular motion, the Lepus' purring getting just a little bit louder even as her tail twitched back and forth in response. Her eyes had long since closed as she enjoyed the feeling, before opening back up with a look of surprise—and a cute little pout on her lips that Toko wasn't even aware of—when Brutus finally pulled his hands away as he turned to inspect the ore.

". . ."

It took a few moments for her thoughts to catch up, before the rabbit's hands rose to cover her mouth as a bright flush instantly crept up to her cheeks. N-Nantekotta...?! Just what on Earth was wrong with her... and since when did she even make noises like those?!

"H-Hai...!?"

She hadn't been paying attention to what Brutus had been doing with the flame sequestered inside his palms, a bit too busy trying to figure out just what the fuck had that been a moment or two before, so when he suddenly addressed her the hare's response was a pitch or two higher than she had originally intended.

Brutus would slice through the crystal, snatching it from the air. He would take a loot at it with a toothy grin and chuck it over his shoulder, banishing it into his inventory and turning to zeroes and ones. He would turn back to the Lepus bathing in the afterglow of his earrub, raising an eyebrow before prowling over to her.

"Your ears alright Bun?" He would cock his head to the side, tail swishing. A grin plastered across his face. His heart would be beating like a drum, he couldn't get enough of it. It was amazing, it was like crack, but like crack it wasn't healthy. If they kept things at this pace, she would never take any legitimate affection from him seriously. She would never look at him with the same eyes he did.

Badump, Badump, Badump

"Look, can we." He would pause, wiping the grin off his face. This had to stop, he had to tell her how he felt. He needed to get this sorted. "Can we talk? Like...actually talk?" He would look to the stone and stomp his foot, causing a small stool of stone to rise for him, then again for her. He would motion for her to sit and then take a seat.

"About..." he would take a deep breath. "About us?"

That grin should be illegal...

Her eyes quickly turned away after getting caught in his gaze, the blush on her cheeks deepening as the Lepus tried to calm her beating heart. Badump! Badump!! Badump!!! Badump!!! It wasn't fair how vulnerable he made her feel, and it definitely wasn't fair that he could make her heart race so much with just a glance... and that predatory grin.

"Your ears alright Bun?"
"Y-Yeah, they're fine n-now..."

It was then she noticed his face go serious, the usual teasing gleam in those blue eyes gone... and that unexpected change made her heart drop. Toko couldn't remember the last time, or if there had ever been a time, that she had seen Brutus look so pensive—and that unnerved her.

"Look, can we... can we talk? Like...actually talk? About... about us?"
"About... us?"

He'd erected two stools made out of stone for themselves, motioning towards one of them as he invited the hare to sit down. For a moment she hesitated, the hare biting the inside of her cheek, before finally she moved closer and took a seat.

"Look, Toko..." He took a deep breath, steeling his heart. He couldn't get his heart together, he couldn't find the words. He needed them, he needed them more than a canonball in the Kurungar fight. He needed them more than his canon, he needed them more than air itself.

"When I started playing this game I didn't know what to expect. I didn't know the adventure I was starting, or the people I would meet. I had no idea of anything I would be getting into." He took a deep breath. "Like the Kurungar." He would take a deep breath. "That...that was nothing like we'd ever dealt with. And you were with me almost every step of the way." His eyes would meet hers and his heart would settle down.

"In fact, you've been with me almost every step of the way the entire time. We've been working together, we've been on adventures together, we've spent almost every other day together. We've fought against death, we've risked everything, hell." He caught his breath. "You and I took a trip to space together. And when the chips were down, we almost risked it all and ate a death and in that moment." He clenched his fists together.

"In that moment I knew exactly how I felt. Look." He would reach forward and take her hands in his. "I know I've been teasing you off and on for the better part of a month, and don't get me wrong I've had my fun, but at the end of the day." He took a deep shuddering breath. "I...care very deeply for you, and when we're done with this little mining excursion I want to take you out to dinner. On a date. Because I love spending time with you, I love talking to you...I" He trailed off.

"I'm love you, Toko. And I said it to you earlier during the after fight but I knew your ears were fucked up and you couldn't hear it, but like...this is the third time I'm gonna tell you because the first time you didn't believe me, and...and I'm rambling. I'm sorry, I can stare demon bugs down in a fight to the death but telling all this to you is the scariest fucking thing I've ever done."

"Look, Toko..."

Her current thoughts were a muddled mass of confusion, mainly because the Lepus hadn't found the one connecting string that would unravel the mess in her mind, and as a result Toko couldn't help but feel panicked as she sat down on the stool besides the Felis. He had been acting different today, that much Toko had picked up on, but the hare couldn't understand why Brutus was not being his usual self. ... maybe he's finally tired of me. Her gaze had lowered down as that particular thought crossed her mind, the palms that Toko had placed on her lap curling into tiny fists in response, as the rabbit hung on baited breath while Brutus struggled to get his thoughts and words together.

When he finally started speaking the rabbit's ears twitched in response, her eyes raised once more to meet Brutus' gaze as the Felis reminisced of the times they had spent together thus far in the last week. "Y-Yeah, it has really been a wild ride..." Honestly that was probably an understatement, 'cause Toko herself had never imagined getting a chance to see The World from the fucking stratosphere, or throwing down like they had against a demonic bug matron eager to fuck them all up.

"In that moment I knew exactly how I felt. Look..."
"... eh?"

There was a look of surprise when Toko found Brutus reaching out for her hands, his bigger palms easily encompassing her smaller fists as he squeezed them with a tenderness the rabbit had not expected. She could feel the heartbeats inside her chest quicken in response, before his next admission quickly caused the hare's temperature to rise quickly.

"I love you, Toko."
Badump...! Badump! Badump!! Badump!!!

It was as if the Lepus had finally been presented with a missing piece of a puzzle, causing everything else to slowly fall into place as a result as Toko's mind finally connected all the dots together. She had believed Brutus to be scolding her when Jin had dragged the half dead hare and deposited her in his arms, but instead it turned out that she had the opposite idea at the time... and before that, too. That day at Fort GunDame, when Brutus had told her that he wanted to walk hand in hand with her through the village—and even lay under the stars as they talked about hopes and dreams for the future—the Felis had actually meant it as an actual confession... and what had she done?

"G-Gomen, Brutus..."

She had called him a liar straight to his face, having thought Brutus had just been saying th first things that came to his mind to get a kick out of watching the Lepus fluster in response. That realization alone had been a mental blow for the hare, causing her voice to crack and break slightly as the pitiful apology spilled out of her lips.

However, the Felis hadn't been the only one to come across a deep reality check as the aftermath of the Kurungaar had settled on them since a few days ago... but it wasn't until now, as she heard his love confession, that Toko finally realized she had also developed feelings for the Felis in front of her... but even more so for the Olivier that Nao had come to know in the real world through their daily messaging and voice chats.

"Tot-temo suki d-dayo..."

The heat that pooled onto her cheeks and at the base of her ears was more than enough of a sign for Toko to know she was currently blushing like crazy, the soft words stuttered as a result as the doki doki of her heart increased further. Unlike many times before Brutus would actually find that the hare wasn't trying to actively pull her hands away from his grasp, her own silent way of accepting and reciprocating the giant's feelings... though looking him straight into those blue eyes of his was an entirely different matter.

"Gomen nothing." Brutus would reply pulling her forward and wrapping his arms around her. He would cradle her in his arms for a moment, trembling slightly. He didn't understand her response exactly, but he understood the gist of it. She felt the same way, or at least close enough to warrant reciprocating the moment. His heart thumped heavily in his chest, mirroring the beat in hers as they began to resonate together.

"I'm sorry that I've been teasing you so much its just..." he would pause, taking in a deep breath. "You're so cute." He would ruffle her hair a bit before pulling away. "With that out of the way..." he would struggle to regain his composure as he looked over the adorable bun woman in his arms.

"It's time for us to get Ore Galore, Mi amore."

God, she was so fucking cute. "You ready?" He would ask raising an eyebrow. "Gotta get this granite and then I'm taking you on one hell of a date."

He would pull Toko close, the stool having been erected close enough to one another to allow the motion without it being awkward, before his arms wrapped around her frame softly. She was being cradled in his embrace, and the closeness this provided allowed Toko to notice that the Lion was actually trembling... something the hare had never thought possible. It really helped to drive the point home that Brutus' words weren't just another joke, and it caused Toko to bury her face on his chest in return.

She couldn't help blush as he called her cute, his hand ruffling the hair on her head softly after he'd placed some distance between them. "Zurui..." It really wasn't fair how easily he could make her heart flutter, especially when he decided to call her mi amore.

"H-Hai..."

She nodded softly as he asked if she was ready to go, the blush still present as he mentioned his excitement at taking Toko out for a hell of a date after they were done with the ore and exploring the cavern.

"D-Do you think that'll be enough ore for your cannon... or should we check deeper in the caves for better quality?"

"We'll need more Ore for shore." Brutus would reply with a sly gin. He felt raw, vulnerable, and fragile having spilled his heart to the Lepus. He felt the need to slice through the tension with a bit of humor. Rising to his feet, the giant would release her from his arms and take a few steps away. Stretching, he removed the lump of ore from his inventory and presented it to Toko to inspect.

"We're probably gonna need at least...thirty of these, maybe more."

He would explain, as if that wasn't an absurd amount of work. "However, we happen to be in luck. Deeper down within the cavern you can find massive earth elementals that eat rock and ore alike, gathering the riches of the mountain into their gut and then metabolizing it into their earthen bodies. If we managed to take one or two of those down, we can harvest them for everything we need and more, most likely."

He would nod sagely, rolling his shoulders and then his neck. "We could also do it the old fasioned way, but I'm not sure how time efficient that would be."

"We'll need more Ore for shore."
"Pffft...!"

She couldn't help the soft chuckle that escaped at the Felis' attempt of a joke, her previous nervous awkwardness slowly pushed away as the Lepus also stood from her stool. "Thirty, huh? I suppose that makes sense... it was a pretty big cannon." Her hands moved to accept the piece of ore that Brutus presented the hare with, before Toko began to shift the object around carefully as she inspected the material.

It was heavy for sure, dark in color and with a unique scent that the rabbit wasn't able to properly identify, but other than that she wasn't an expert to know if it was of a high enough quality or just an average grade ore.

"I think the old fashioned way would exhaust us way too quickly... might as well take advantage of earth elementals if they already did the hard work for us, ne?"

"You know what they say." The lion man would quip motioning for her to follow him. "Work Smarter, not harder." His tail would flick idly. "And if you thought the last one was big." A grin would spread across his lips as he turned to the Hare. "This one is going to have three barrels, and we have a plan for special ammunition to make loading it easier." In truth working with the brain trust to come up with this thing had been kind of annoying, he'd been trying to get it belt fed, but the nerds kept insisting that a long belt of dangerous explosives out and around in a firefight was a danger.

Especially given his own proclivity to shoot fire around.

"I'll be able to fire three shots at once if I'm feeling froggy, or I can toggle it to fire off one at a time. It'll afford me more shots in a fight. The payload will be slightly reduced, but only slightly so."

He would walk as he was explaining, then turned back to her. "I'm calling it the Cerberus Canon."

She nodded in confirmation to the well known phrase, honestly working smarter instead of harder should be everyone's life motto. "... how much bigger are we talking about this time around?" Her eyes narrowed slightly in doubt, before blinking as they widened in surprise as Brutus elaborated on his current plans.

"Cerberus? Okay, that's actually a pretty good name~"

A soft chuckle escaped Toko was the Lepus fell besides the Lion like before, the occasional tap tap tap of his tail now an expected touch as they continued to go deeper down the caverns. "That said you aren't wrong, if it's going to be that ambitious then you'll definitely need a lot of ore... we should consider getting more than whatever amount you think will be enough, just in case some of it is impure or gets ruined when it's being forged into the new cannon's shape and parts." Could never go wrong having more instead of less when it came to crafting, something she had learned from the ceramist back in her home village.

Always made more pieces than needed, because you'd always lose a few along the way... especially during the kilning process. Toko supposed molding metal ores into cannons would probably not be too different in that regard.

"I need it to be able to handle anything." He would turn to her, his gaze suddenly serious. "If we ever cross paths with another demon I'm going to blast it with Hellfire until it decides to go back." His teeth clenched, visions of the demon flashing before his eyes. The smell of rotting carrion and blood filled his nose, the screams of whirring wings filled his ears.

"Those things have no place here, and I won't let an evil like that take root."

The declaration came out more stern than he intended, causing the lion to blink for a moment before shaking his head. "Sorry, I...got a little worked up there."

He would walk in a contemplative silence as he pondered her words like a magician would ponder a fancy orb, or a cultist would ponder the entrails of a gutted crow. Turning them over methodically in his head. "You have a point, more ore would open more doors for sure." Okay, maybe he'd spent the time coming up with the wordplay and not reflecting deeply on their meaning. "Luckily it seems like we won't need to bore into the earth for it either, nor will the task leave us to snore."

His grimace slithered away back into the dark recesses of his mind and was replaced with cousin the grin who was the usual suspect for that part of town.

"Although it's going to be quite the chore, getting this Ore."

She was surprised at the sudden intensity the Felis displayed upon talking about the mutating Kurungaar at the end of their battle, the Lepus' eyes widening just slightly in surprise though Toko kept her mouth shut. After all it wasn't like she didn't agree, that thing had been inhuman and absolutely disgusting just before Shane's sacrifice wiped it off the map... but Toko also had zero knowledge of demons and how they might work in this world.

It didn't felt fair, or smart, to instantly pass a venomous judgment upon it all without having all the pieces of the puzzle... after all, if Brutus had found a group of peaceful goblin, what if not all demons were infamous murderous pieces of shit?

"Sorry, I...got a little worked up there."
"Iie, that's fine... it was a pretty gnarly thing."

Was he... rhyming? The Lepus couldn't help but chuckle lightly, making an exaggerated show of rolling her eyes at his last line, before Toko bounded a few steps ahead from Brutus.

"Just hurry up, those rock elementals aren't gonna kill themselves~"

"They shore won't" Brutus would quip picking up the pace so he wouldn't be to tortoise to the helpful hare. An idle hand would tussle her silver hair, perhaps sneaking in a scritch or two to her ears.

He would continue forward down the tunnel, his tail keeping tabs on the tomboy. The occasonal tap keeping Toko in his gaze like Azykia's cane. Their footsteps echoing through the chambers alerting their foes to pairs intent to raise some cain.

They would find themselves entering a large cavern filled with crystals. The soft twinkle of light refracting throughout gave the entire thing an eerily beautiful feel to it. The walls, when not covered in crystal, glittered softly with a faint hint of metal.

The giant would redouble his gentle tail taps against Toko, tactically taking stock of where his ally was. The earth would rumble and shake as stone and earth would writhe like a turbulent sea, giving way to a goliath of Ore and Granite, shimmering in the sublime light of the crystals.

GroooOooooOoooooOgh.

The being would bellow, thumping an earthen fist against his stoney chest. Brutus would mimic the motion, thunking his ironclad knuckles against his chest.

"Come fucking get some!"

She heard his steps as the Lion quickened his pace, catching back up to the hare with ease before a hand reached over to play with Toko's hair. The touch wasn't something she was used to, and it showed int he way the rabbit flinched slightly, though when Brutus scratched softly at the base of her ear she almost seemed to lean into the touch instinctually.

Tap... tap... tap... went his tail as they continued down the current tunnel, teir footsteps echoing around the open cavernous space even as the hare's eyes adjusted to the poor lighting conditions of the caves as they went. A sudden twinkle, unexpected in these depths, had caught Toko's attention then—and as their steps angled towards it the hare couldn't help but gasp in surprise as they entered a large cavern covered in crystals (and some metal) all around its walls.

"Kirei...!"

Tap, tap, tap!

The gentle taps against her side had seemingly doubled up in speed, causing the Lepus to look down questioningly at the appendage, before a gravely groan echoed through the chamber as the ground began to rumble and shake when a dormant creature finally became aware of the intruders entering its grounds.

"Waah... sugoku ookii!"

While the earlier jade serpent had been quite long in size this goliath of a golem was quite the thicc boy, the exterior coated in hard materials and ores... this was certainly a tanky monster, and it seemed ready to rumble the intruders encroaching upon its territory.

"Come fucking get some!"

Brutus certainly seemed eager to go head to head with the monster, causing the Lepus to take a step back so as not to be in the way before Toko took a moment to analyze the situation. She didn't doubt the Lion's strength, after all she'd had plenty of chances to test it herself, so instead the hare decided to take a supporting role this time around.

Her eyes focused on the left leg supporting the granite goliath, before her palms smacked down onto the earthen floor as Toko focused on gathering and manipulating the substance. It took a few moments for her to weave her nature magic into the mix, before a crater suddenly formed underneath the foot of the creature. The sudden change in the surface caused the goliath to stumble, and it was then a mass of vines sprung forth from the crater to firmly grasp the left arm of the creature in an attempt to unbalance and immobilize it to some degree.

Brutus would charge forward, the creature lumbering forward. The longer this fight went on, the more likely it was that he or Toko would get hurt. The answer was obvious and easy, overwhelming force. Toko dipped back, creating a gap between the two. He would shoot a backwards glance to her, watching her scheme away.

Magic? Interesting.

He would charge forward, placing his faith in his fluffy eared companion, and that would pay dividends. The creature would stumble, forward, her leafy leash tethering one of it's arms to the ground and yanking it downwards, perfect for his plan. He would hook his right fist upwards, perhaps like some sort of street fighter in a wild uppercut. His ironclad knuckle would hit the creature in it's stoney jaw, causing its mouth to clench and crack as it let out another rumbling groan. It would swipe at him clumsily with it's free hand, but with a burst of flame from his feet, he was sliding backwards and away from it and towards Toko. He would let off several gouts of flame from his hands, peppering the creature with fireballs to cover his own retreat, taking care to avoid the verdant vicegrip Toko had one of it's hands in.

"Excellent work Bun, if you can try to wrap it up more and more I can just hammer him to death with impunity!"

All he had to do was hope that the Rabbit's tendency for magic to get out of hand played to their advantage, and not to their hinderance.

"Hai!!!"

The golem stumbled just as Toko had intended, allowing Brutus to nail its face with an uppercut and a series of punches before the Lion was backing up. A grating grumble echoed through the cavern as the creature struggled with its bindings, the frustration almost palpable as it had resorted to smack towards the Felis with its free arm... only to miss him entirely.

A peppering of fireballs would come then, the golem down on one knee as it raised its one free arm to shield from some of the barrage, before the natural ore construct of a being let out a loud and gravelly roar in the direction of Brutus. "Whoa... shimatta!" The creature was clearly riled up now, managing to tap into additional energy reserves as it doubled its struggle to free the immobilized arm. Down here, where darkness reign, Toko's Nature magic wasn't as strong, and the hare cried out in surprise as she suddenly watched the vines break loose—the giant hammer of a limb heading straight for Brutus in an attack.

"Brutus, look out!!!"

There was a panic in her voice as she watched the golem go for the Felis, before a thought quickly crossed her mind as Toko remembered a trick Erick had helped her develop. Instantly the rabbit's hand reached out in Brutus direction, allowing the cosmic energy to gather while Toko's eyes and thoughts focused on the jacket he always wore.

Pull back, pull back, pull back...!

The trick was still new, and Toko hadn't had the chance to try it out in actual combat... originally it had been meant as a way for the Lepus to get ranged opponents within close quarters, which would allow her to clobber them senseless, but right now the hare was switching gears as she attempted to use it as a defensively support action instead. However with time ticking Toko didn't had time to measure her strength, and while the gravitational pull succeeded in yanking Brutus away from his spot—the golem's two arms smashing down mere seconds later to where he'd stood and leaving an empty crater behind—it also caused the giant of a beastfolk to come careening straight into the rabbit.

SMAAACK!!!

The hit was solid as Toko found herself bowled over by the larger frame, the pair becoming a tangled mess as the momentum caused them to roll back a few feet before the cavern wall served as a stop to their unplanned tumble.

"I-Itaiyo...!"

SHIT! FUCK!

Brutus would watch as the fist came for him a lot faster than anticipated, he hadn't put enough gas into his jets and this thing would catch him. Then he felt a tug on his back, like someone had grabbed him by the scruff and WHOOSH, he sailed through the air.

"What the Fu-"

SMACK

He and Toko would slam into the wall, the wind knocked right from his lungs as he found himself tangled up in her. The lion would wheeze, struggling to bring vital air into his lungs, both for the oxygen and the fuel to power his pyromancy.

"Thanks for the save." The giant would grunt as the Lepus would groan. He would clamber to his feet and growl as the living rockslide would charge forward, closing the gap. He would scoop the Lepus into his harms and jolt forward, propelled by a burst of flames from his feet as they would dash around the edge of the cavern, forcing the creature to smash itself into the wall. The entire cavern would rumble and shake, sending bits of debris down from the ceiling. The giant would create a large enough gap for the two of them before setting the Lepus down on her feet.

"I think we need to focus hitting it from afar..." Brutus would grunt. "I don't think either of us can chance getting hit by that fucking thing."

He would ready a couple of fireballs for the creature as it advanced. Ready to dodge at any moment.

Toko had thought she understood how it felt to have three hundred or so pounds of muscles to charge in her direction, after all she had sparred plenty of times with the Felis over the course of time they'd known one another in game.

She had been wrong, so very wrong.

The wind had been knocked out of her lungs upon impact, cutting the gravitational magic short as a result—but physics dictated they would continue to move until their momentum was expended or a sturdier surface stopped them in their tracks... and that's exactly what the cavern's walls did. "O-Omoi...!" She barely managed to squeeze the word out between breathes, the hare groaning as she struggled to regain oxygen into her lungs even as a dull ache throbbed in different parts of her smaller body.

This was an experience she'd love to not repeat any time soon.

Brutus was the first one to regain his footing, the Lion quickly scooping Toko into his arms before barely dodging the goliath's path as the creature smashed into the crystal encrusted wall. Only when he'd placed a decent distance between themselves and the golem did Brutus set Toko back down on her feet, the hare giving a faint nod of acknowledgement before frowning as he mentioned they should stay at a distance while fighting.

"... but I can't hit it from a distance."

She frowned at that thought, and for a moment the Lepus contemplated charging forwards like Brutus had done before—After all she had always been quite confident of her speed and agility—but that idea was quickly snuffed out when a sharp pain ran up one side of her chest. Fuck...! Did I crack a rib...? The thought made Toko frown, wincing as she took a deeper inhale of air, before the rabbit resigned herself to using support magic on herself as the Felis barraged the goliath with multiple fireballs.

Right, it's fine... just heal it the way Solaria showed you.

Both of her hands were placed on her chest, slightly closer to the left side which was the area where the hare felt her discomfort emanating from, before she allowed the soft green glow of Nature energy to cover her palms and slowly ebb into her body.
