Inevitably, Brightleaf manages to talk both girls back to her place and warms them up with more tea and cozy blankets. They both needed the rest and the relaxation. Kamala could not think of anything, any reason at all to decline the elf's offer. The fact that they still had a lot of questions they wanted answered helped. If anyone was going to alleviate some of the confusion, it would be the self-proclaimed medical expert. Kamala cupped the warm porcelain in her hands, taking a long whiff of the drink before following that up with a much-needed sip to awaken her insides. Brightleaf, on the other hand, wasted no time in providing some explanations.

"I didn't catch a glimpse of the tiny flying creature you spoke of. When I got there, outside of the cave's mouth, I only saw the two of you. Likewise, there were no other survivors we could find."

Kamala clenched her jaw at the revelation. The survivors were not found? Could it have all been an illusion brought about by their exposure to the fungal sickness? Was Piewing an illusion as well? Or was something else, something worse afoot? She continued to sip her tea as she thought about numerous other possibilities, none of which were as comforting.

"The Mycelium you fought and destroyed must have been the source of the fungal sickness. It fits the criteria based on my expertise, but we will need a few more days to verify that."

Kamala nodded absentmindedly, agreeing with the elven medic's preliminary findings. It was still too early to come up with a definite conclusion, but all signs pointed to the Mycelium as the main culprit. Well, it was their only culprit but it was powerful and toxic enough to play the role of their main antagonist. Kamala could only imagine the horror if there was something else, something worse. She turned to @Ayna Nietzsche with a look of concern before Brightleaf closed out her statements.

"Either way, you adventurers have done your part. I'll see to it that you get paid. Thank you for your help."

Kamala wondered if Ayna would reveal to Brightleaf the existence of the notebook they had found inside the cave. She wondered if it would be right to surrender an important piece of their investigation. Were they done with all this? Or were they just beginning? Kamala wasn't keen on keeping secrets, but if it was for the good of all, the good of the sick, then perhaps she could agree to it. If Ayna chooses to go down that path anyway.

The truth was, Ayna wasn't quite sure where to go with this now. They had done their part, yes, but there was still the nagging feeling of not having truly solved the mystery they had just stumbled upon. Were they already done with their investigation? Could they even move forward knowing that there were still questions left unanswered? Or maybe they could just let time do its thing, allow Brightleaf and her healers to do their part first, and then come back to do the rest of the work should there be remaining work to be done?

"We also found this inside the cave. Might be useful to you and the rest of the village."

Ayna took out the mildewed notebook that @Kamala Graham had found first, the one with the instructions for concocting a potion out of fungi and a pint of blood from a faerin, all harvested within the past 24 hours. She didn't know what it was for, and Kamala didn't as well, so perhaps Brightleaf and her healers would have a better crack at it. They were the experts, after all. They'd be more efficient with their attempts. Adventurers could only do so much.

"If you need anything else once you verify what you need to verify, maybe with the help of this strange notebook, you know who to call. We've already scratched the surface of that cave. We're the ones best prepared to go back in and finish the job."

Before she truly surrendered it, though, Ayna hinted at further negotiations with Brightleaf. She had a point: She and Kamala were already familiar with the cave. Who else could be better, more useful to Brightleaf and her healers than them? The elf seemed to agree with the sentiment, too, as she nodded to the two of them after taking the notebook warily, staring at its cover, and briefly browsing its contents.

"Hmm? We'll keep in touch then."

Ayna smirked and returned the nod before turning to Kamala. If that was it, then they'd best rest up and prepare to return home. Or just rest up. Or then go somewhere else in the meantime. They've done their part, done their job. What's left to do? Some r&r would be nice. Definitely need a recharge.

Kamala returned @Ayna Nietzsche's look with a warm smile. She felt a sense of relief when Ayna willingly surrendered the notebook they had found in the cave with Brightleaf. It was as if an entire world's worth was taken off her shoulders. On one hand, someone could argue that keeping the notebook might have been to their advantage. Yet Kamala didn't see it that way. If anything, she felt that keeping the notebook would've given Brightleaf and her healers some sort of disadvantage. With them, it felt more useful, more helpful, than it felt left with the pair of adventurers.

"Then we'll wait for your call to action. Rest assured we'll be there when you need us. Thank you for having us both, Brightleaf. This was a great opportunity to see new places, and meet new people."

The village elf simply offered Kamala a nod and soon left them to their own devices. Kamala heaved a sigh, also of relief, at getting to rest some more. Soon, they would depart the village as well. But for now? They had all the time in the world to rest up. All the time in the world indeed.

"Do you think we'll have time for a few days of vacation here, Ayna?"

Oh, who was she kidding? Of course, they did. And they owed it to themselves. Kamala didn't need to worry about taking a few days off from adventuring. A few days off to find herself, themselves, just doing nothing, playing casually... It was well-deserved. Especially after what had happened in that cave. Who knows? Maybe they'll even return to finish their investigation if Brightleaf and her healers called for them while they were still around. An elven girl can dream.
