When Sai and Tenshi logged on, Tenshi was already in the area that Sai had last logged out in, so it didn't take the two long to be reunited. Despite the scene that had played out earlier that night, and despite all the time Tenshi had spent expecting to greet Sai with a snarky confrontation, their reunion was... pleasant. Too pleasant, almost. The tigress had ran right up to the wolf and wrapped him in a hug, expressing both physically and vocally then that she was glad to still have him. Whatever she went through between his last login and now was swept beneath the rug as she laid out a solid recommendation for something to do with the near future.

First, the duo had to travel up to Zalra, which ate up a lot of time yet gave the two plenty of time to visit and catch up. Yet Tenshi didn't say anything about a stolen move or mope too terribly much. In fact, she didn't even mention dancing at all. Instead she talked about some raid she had participated in, and how she stayed in dead melee of the main boss for the entire fight without dying. She seemed pretty proud of it, actually! There was a lot of very obvious improvement in her skill and power since the two had last played, and that was the primary reason she wanted to partake on this Zalra expedition in the first place. It'd certainly help Sai close the gap between the two.

The further the duo went, the more Tenshi began to shiver. Up to a certain point she just walked closer and closer to Sai until a point where she tested his boundaries and began to shiver right up against him. It was soon afterwards when she fell into a comfort distinct enough to make her purr that she paused to change outfits using her UI--she wasn't going to manually change with Sai standing right there anyways--to something more geared for traveling in the snow. Seemed like she took his advice from last time.

The two eventually arrived in Zalra, and traveled the more lived parts of Zakaden on their way to the place. Tenshi asked around the locals about a grove, and eventually found the mark... but not before hearing plenty of warnings. Warnings of an incurable disease: Zalrisis. The tigress had already been jogging whenever she could to stave off the mild chill she still felt through her winter gear, but the stories she and Sai were provided made her shiver for an entirely different reason.

One scratch, one bite, one scrape, that was all it took to become infected. Was dragging Sai along really such a good idea? Of course it was, for one reason and one reason only.

"Don't worry. I won't let anything happen to you. That's a promise."

Tenshi wasn't going to let Sai get infected. Her? She had a pretty morbid plan to prevent her own infection, thanks to her morphing abilities, but not any way to save Sai from it. That's why the plan first and foremost was stealth. Crossing the Shimmering Flats was probably the most risky part of the stealth mission, but Tenshi's plan was simple: move quick and don't leave tracks. Thankfully, the ground wasn't easy to leave tracks on to begin with, seeing as how it was made of a solid, crystalized substance. After a bit of following directions, they finally arrived at the edge of the grove. Eve's Grove, that is, known for it crystalized fruits.

As Tenshi neared the edge of the grove with Sai, she got a nice jump scare as a wolf leapt out of the crystalline orchard, camouflaging easily given that it was made of a very similar material. That was the split second where she realized that any number of monsters could be here, and the two wouldn't even know it. Maybe Sai with his Hyper Sense could pick them out, but Tenshi could only do so much.

As the crystal canine made for the much warmer and not crystal canine, Tenshi shoved Sai out of the way and let the wolf pounce her. As the two hit the ground, the tigress rolled backwards and shoved the wolf high into the air behind her, then quickly kipped up and looked herself over. No cuts, no scrapes. Her clothes had barely even been damaged by its claws, so it was their bite she really had to worry about then.

"All right, change of plans! I can't see them that well, so you pick them off and tell me if any are coming." She still hadn't transformed at all, which might have seemed a bit worrysome. After all, that was her entire build. Leaning into the whole tiger thing. Then again, if she tore her gloves, she had bigger problems to worry about. Namely, frostbite, which was just as bad as Zalrisis in her eyes. "If we have to come back later, we'll come back later. Don't let them touch you!"

Sai’s strange supermarket encounter was fresh on his mind, even as he met with Tenshi. Thankfully, that curiosity faded relatively quick once they met, and he was happy just to be able to enjoy some new moments with her. "I see you still purr as much as I remember~!" he teased with a smug look as they traveled so close it was downright inconvenient.

"Woah, wait, one scratch!? That’s it!?" Sai gulped, only slightly calmed by Tenshi’s affirming words. Then again, maybe they were exaggerating things. After all, in the real world, one could contract diseases with "just one scratch," but that didn’t mean it was gonna happen every time. He could only hope.

"Tenshi, check it out! Gem fruit!" he chuckled, holding one up and wondering how one would go about eating such a thing. "Woah, jeez!" Sadly, even Hypersense could only do so much against the insanely well-camouflaged crystal wolves. "Alright, finally, time for some action again!"

Sai grinned and held out his gun, preparing to blast the thing, but finding himself toppling to the ground instead as Tenshi shoved him out to safety. "Oww. R-right, got it spot it!" Sai said with a salute, scrambling back to Tenshi’s skde with the weapon ready, and his eye now glowing to indicate his abilities in full use.

"There!" he called, blasting forward with his gun and revealing another merged with crystal. "Another one!" Slowly, but surely, they’d make their way forward.

Thank goodness Sai wasn't so terribly out of practice from the long break. Momentarily her thoughts went back to how she was definitely right about Sai having something to do with Angelique, but what it could be for certain had to wait as she kicked with all of her might as Sai made a callout near enough to Tenshi that she could help take care of it. The wolf's shoulder shattered and splintered from the impact, and the tigress winced momentarily. She wouldn't let it slow her down though. Tiger claws or not, she was still practically superhuman, and still a beastfolk without them.

As they pressed forward, and Tenshi kicked another wolf, her eyes widened as she realized something. Her leg was bleeding a little bit. Did she really get scratched? Was she going to actually contract that disease? Her thoughts on the matter fell in line similarly to Sai's, not that she knew that much. Just because she could get it from one single little scratch didn't mean she would. It didn't help her remain anymore patient, though. "Hey, new plan!"

Tenshi figured their numbers were dropping enough to go from a full defense to more of a forward and offensive tactic, and she looked to Sai for a moment for confirmation that he felt the same. She wasn't entirely sure what made her think she'd be able to tell just by looking at him. Maybe it was an instinctual thing, since they were both part animal? "I'm gonna grab another apple, that'll be two, and then we'll run out of here!"

And just like that, she made a mad dodge around another crystalline wolf that tried to bite at her and put her cat half to work as she climbed up and grabbed a fruit really quick.

This was the part where they start running, and Tenshi wasted no time bolting back over to Sai. At nearly the same time, it seemed that their escape became aided by the convenience of less wolves as none impeded their retreat. Not a single one, in fact, as the two bolted back the way they came, through the trees, and through the trees, and through the trees, and... through the trees...

Tenshi eventually slowed up and came to a halt on her uninjured leg, taking a few moments to carefully look around. "... I could've sworn this was the way we came from..." The trees of crystal around them were just as numerous as they had been as the very much non-crystalline wolf sniper fired his first shot. It apparently wasn't obvious to Tenshi even when she looked right at it, but Sai's sharper eyes could see a mass of crystal vines hanging just behind Tenshi as she looked at him. Unmoving, with distinct crystal eyes seemingly floating in the center of the mass staring right back at him as well.

"Don’t go reckless like you always do, alright? Save the showing off for a safer place!" Sai pleaded. Then again, as far as he knew, Tenshi didn’t really have any capabilities beyond those that required her to be right up in the face of danger, so the warning was probably a complete waste of time anyway. "New plan? What was wrong with the old one!?"

Turns out, it was not instinctual at all. Eventually, Sai got it though… after being directly told. "Oh. Uhh, isn’t there a safer— gah, Tenshi!!" he complained, raising his rifle again and striking the wolf back to make especially sure it’d miss the flying tigress snack. "Alright great, let’s skedaddle on outta this joint!"

Or so they tried to do. Sai had a tendency to feel like he was a master tracker with impeccable sense of direction and space because of the power of hypersense… alas, he was not. Not even close. He saw the crystal eye spaghetti though.

… Wait, the WHAT!?

His eyes bulged and he spoke quietly as he raised his rifle just past Tenshi’s shoulder. "Tenshi. No sudden movements. Don’t freak out, just come this way slowly and whatever you do, don’t look behind you…"

Tenshi tensed at how seriously Sai had just given her instruction. There was never a time she could recall where her partner both in crime and a pretty basic online relationship had been so sincere in terms of fear or dread, so she listened keenly. She even resisted the urge to nod as she walked straight towards him with slow, quiet steps, her eyes transfixed on the barrel of his rifle and the look on his face. Either one, back and forth as his concern began to well up in her own chest.

The crystal eye spaghetti, on the other hand, didn't budge even a little bit. In fact, as Tenshi stepped away from it, and Sai steeled his resolve to blast it into a million pieces, he would have to stress his vision to continue to see it only to find that those eyes staring right back at him were no longer there. In fact, he began to see that there had never truly been vines in the first place, or at least not quite in the way that he had seen them. Instead, what he was now looking at was the leaves and branches of the crystal trees. If he really tried, Sai could sort of see the vague idea of what he had misconstrued as a vine monster moments prior as a trick of the light and the angle of the shiny earthen trees surrounding them.

And then he would look at Tenshi, and just behind her was a far more menacing monster of crystal vine, with its sharp-toothed mouth open just around her head like a pair of guillotines ready to bisect it at a moment's notice. Once again, unmoving, and staring right at Sai. His tigress meanwhile, stood staring at him in fear, waiting for instruction. She may have been closer to him, which was reassuring, but then again so was the tangle of vines.

Sai eyed the monster closely as Tenshi widened the distance between the two of them. And then he saw it. "Oh." Well, that was an awkward misunderstanding. He scratched the back of his head and lowered the rifle slightly. "Uhh… false alarm, haha~ Whoops. Sorry, it’s been a while since I’ve activated hypersense, so I’m still kinda getting my "sea eyes" if ya know what I mean. Nice trees though…"

He turned and repeated the gesture. Now that definitely wasn’t his imagination again, was it? No way, it was there, right around her neck. He couldn’t wait.

"DUCK!" he commanded with a frantic urgency, raising his rifle right for her head and praying she was as fast as he remembered. He pulled the trigger, unleashing the blue, magical energy shot straight for where her head had just previously been, and where hopefully the monster would still be!
