The ruins seemed to stretch out into infinity, smoldering embers still present among the ruins from all that was burned by the God-Searing Light. Mystia wasn't there to witness any of it, but she did read the MIT reports and tried to gather as much from survivors as she could. Although there weren't many who were willing to speak openly about something that seemed that inflict deep trauma. As for the fae herself... she missed all of the action because it coincided with the exam period at her school. It was a lot of work to prepare so many exams, get through all of her students and evaluate them all...

But even if she were present, someone would likely try to keep her away from all the chaos. While she was hardly new to the game, she was not... the strongest. Her real-life responsibilities kept her away from grinding, not to mention that she wasn't exactly keen on fighting overall. But she was interested in the aftermath. Thankfully, just about all of the bodies were removed, so she did not have to witness the horror of their charred and dismembered corpses, either.

Standing on a pile of rubble, the girl stood tall (despite her height) with a mechanical tail extending from a metallic spine on her back, curled around a few samples she had already collected. There were no assurances that any of this would even help her learn more about magitech, but since the formerly flying ship appeared to be one of the origins of the mastery in this land, it was probably one of the best spots to explore now, given that all of the defenses and threats were near completely disabled.

"Found any more?"

"NEGATIVE! AND WHY AM I THE ONLY ONE SCOURING THIS PLACE? THIS IS MECH DISCRIMINATION!"

"H-hey, your body is designed for this kind of terrain, mine isn't!"

The bickering between a faerin and her titan-sized magitech robot was heard across the battlefield, likely earning a star or two, perhaps even an eyeroll from the lions and others that were guarding the area.

Along with the other Lions, Hanno had his moment of free roaming around Vintergard, mostly keeping a freestyle patrol to make sure everyone and everything was on check. Even if almost everything was under control by now, there was still one or another rogue construct that could endanger the curious minds that decided to explore the ruins Vintergard had become.

Greedy people were also a concerning situation, both for their lack of concern for their own safety, meddling with tools and objects that may have been too dangerous to touch, or looting an important artifact that could be the difference between succeeding on actually finding an answer to their problems, and making every single of their efforts be a big waste of time.

But for Hanno's surprise, instead of finding the wrong type of troublesome individuals, he found a funny type of troublesome individuals... A faerin girl, half a feet smaller than him, and a giant mecha that was declaring his rights.

The funny situation, in the middle of all that wasteland, was a sight for sore eyes, and so Hanno approached them.

"Heya there, faerin buddy, and metal buddy." Hanno greeted them with a smile, raising a hand to emphasize it before lowering it and looking around. "Seems like both of you are having some trouble to find stuff, do you need some help or something?" He asked, taking a hold on the scraps so he could climb all the way up to them, despite carrying an enormous shield behind his back.

"Ah, there we go." He grinned, finishing to push himself up and looking at the two. "Most of stuff out in the open are already kind found, you need to be a bit more creative to find the good deal."

As a member of MIT, Mystia figured there would be no trouble in her scouring the area a bit. That didn't mean she didn't jump a little when someone approached and raised their voice, even if it was just she could hear them in this large a place, with many others moving about in the distance. While the fae's gaze fell on Hanno somewhat meekly, the giant 10 feet tall mechanoid was quick to jump and land closer to its creator, casting a shadow over her as it was ready to protect.

"Ah, good day! You're not here to reprimand us, whew... I am one of MIT's Sophomore researchers, Mystia! We are trying to find anything related to the Vintergard magitech to see if it is any different to what Starcalled use."

While the girl was quick to introduce herself and state her business in this place, her bot was... a bit on the wilder side.

"SMALL STATURE DETECTED - INITIALIZE FAERIN PUNTING PROTOCOL?"

"NO-!"

The girl slapped the shiny metallic plate that coated the robot before her one revealed crimson eye fell upon Hanno.

"I apologize if we're loud, I can mute him if necessary."

"WOW, RUDE."

Hanno couldn't help but feel amused by the sight of the strange duo. "I am not here to reprimand you yet." He playfully corrected, raising a finger and a grin for emphasis. "But you don't need to mute him, no." He chuckled.

There was a hint of surprise on him, however, when he was met with the giant mech activating some strange 'Faerin Punting Protocol' that surely didn't sound friendly. Enough for the giant shield on his back to rumble, and to three pairs of tentacles come out from its sides with the sounds of ripping flesh coming out of it.

"Ghast, they are just joking." He knocked the shield, that rumbled, but remained with the tentacles out.

With a sigh, Hanno smiled once again and offered a hand to the fellow faerin. "Mystia from MIT, eh? It is a pleasure to meet'cha, buddy. My name is Hanno, Hanno Futaba. Lion Knight and ready to help, so if you need anything, just say the word."

His eyes then turned to the robot, showing him a grin. "Granted, maybe you don't need that much of my help. You have a very good protector with you... I like you, buddy. Ready to protect your friend, that's some valuable personality."

"The pleasure is all mine, mister Futaba. And even if you say that we are not a bother, I'll try to keep all of this to a minimum."

The girl was always quite aware of just how much one's actions could influence others. Given that she was hardly the only scientist and/or researcher from MIT here, she hardly wanted to disturb the concentration of her peers. Even if it did seem that she was quite alone in this part of Vintergard. Which did bring about a thought that the fae was about to share before Hanno said something amusing. Both Mystia and her mech suddenly looked directly at each other and then back at the other faerin before speaking at the same time.

"A friend? Oh no, that thing is my property."

"A FRIEND? OH NO, THAT THING IS MY OWNE- I MEAN PROPERTY."

A moment of silence before Mystia coughed into her fist the clear the awkwardness before speaking again.

"Actually, if you are offering help... we have never been to this part of the world. It might not be quite like the noble mission of Lions to protect the weak, but I could use someone to guide me through here, maybe to some of the more interesting parts, too?"

Hanno nodded with a pleased hum at the humbleness. "Thank ya, buddy. But I'm being honest when I'm saying you guys aren't bothering anyone. At most, you guys are making a rather fun sight to see." He admitted, still being amused by the dynamic of the duo, on top of their appearance difference that certainly highlighted them.

He did frown when the two of them seemed to reject their friendship, making the faerin cross his arm with an raising eyebrow. "Well, you two do seem like friends to me, in a way or another." Hanno said, but then shrugged, unsure of how the two even saw each other as, anyway.

His gaze then turned to Mystia, pondering for a moment.

"Honestly, you guys are searching stuff in the wrong spot." He said. "You will have more luck trying to... 'open' stuff that already exist. Like lost side ships, and containers that are laying around across the wasteland... Here... Almost everyone already got what they need. Everyone went all out in this hunting, after all." Hanno said, then, grinned widely to the girl.

"There is no such a thing like a not-as-noble work though. If you are helping, it is noble, and that's how it is..." He then gestured for her to follow. "Come with me, Mysts. Ah, and no need to call me 'mister', I'm not too fond to formalities." He said, before sliding down the pile of scraps they were on.

It wasn't like Mystia thought she could make some landmark discovery here, or even anything all that useful. Frankly, it was more for her own interests and an individual that was quite curious about magitech itself. Given the size of the ship and the number of defeated magia here, she figured she would find something sooner or later. But if Hanno had a different idea as to where they could find something interesting, she was more than willing to listen and follow.

Quietly nodding along with all he said she only paused when the faerin called her...

"MYSTS... HU... HUHU..."

"H-hey, how about instead of being rude, you get your ass into gear..."

While she said that, Mystia did feel that Mysts might have been... a bit strange of a way to shorter her name. Regardless, the hulking bot extended one of its hands and opened up its palm near the ground, allowing the fae to jump up on it before it would lift her up a tad and started following Hanno with easy, long steps.

"Before anything, thank you for the help, Hanno! I didn't think any of the lions here would be interested in helping, already having plenty of work with people trying to sneak here and run off with anything remotely valuable."

Hanno huffed a chuckle at the mecha's mild teasing, tilting to whisper to Mystia:

"Sorry about that, buddy. I think just Mystia will be fine." He slipped a brief apology, before continuing to move, guiding the faerin and the giant mecha to somewhere else. For most of part, Hanno seemed to ignore the large piles of scraps that had been salvaged endless times. It wouldn't be entirely unfitting to think that there were treasures buried under them, but honestly it was better to work with something more certain, before doing the harder work.

"You are welcome, Mystia. I can't just let someone exploring this place without supervision. There is still some lingering dangers around." He said.

"Is there something specific you are looking for? Since you aren't looking for someting finantially valuable, you are probably looking for something of more... Personal value or need?" Hanno asked, slowly approaching what seemed to be a half broken vehicle, large and bulky, similarly salvaged as everything else, but not as much destroyed as everything else.

Perhaps, with a heavy fixing it could be even used in the future.

Hanno gripped the metal vault, grunting before forcing it open, tossing it aside before peeking at Mystia. "And if it is fine, can I ask you a small thing?" He looked at her, stepping into the vehicle first, to make sure it was safe.

"Oh no, you can call me whatever you want, I don't mind! This piece of shiny junk just likes to seize any opportunity to make jokes of others, me included."

The girl flailed her hands around a bit in a clear gesture of disagreement as she spoke, not nearly as quiet as Hanno was when he started that little conversation.

"UH-HUH. AND WHO PROGRAMMED ME TO DO THAT, THEN?"

"Well, I sure don't remember giving you that much snark..."

Given the fact that Mystia was riding on top of the mech's arm, there was no hiding anything from it in terms of conversation. Not that the girl minded being open about anything. It was still her mech at the end of the day.

"That's kinda the thing. Not looking for anything specific. You could say... that I'm just interested in the origins of Magitech. Got a friend who was part of this world 4 years ago, and she told me that it just didn't exist back then, but then here is a whole mechanized location. So I figured that if I could find some good pieces, I could maybe figure something out."

In a way, she was trying to piece together a history lesson more than anything else, at least in a way. Though when Hanno asked for a potential favor or a more 'invasive' question, Mystia quickly halted that train of thought to let him ask, all the while her mech used its other hand to examine their find a bit more closely.

"Hm? Go ahead."

Hanno hummed, raising an eyebrow while looking at the big metal guy. "A joke-y type, huh? Alright, alright... I will think a bit more and give not only you a better nickname, but that guy a nickname too-" He grinned, before pausing and tilting his head. "Wait, actually, what's his name? You didn't tell me." Unless he had missed it, which would be fair, considering his memory has been faltering lately.

There wa another smirk from Hanno, this time along with a chuckle at the duo's interaction.

His attention was then caught by Mystia's reveal about a friend that told that magitech never really existed, and Hanno couldn't help but nod. "Your friend is absolutely right. Four years ago... Almost five years now, honestly, there was no magitech." Hanno said. "We had other type of crude technology, but it was mostly 'steampunk', as one could say... Now, it is far more flexible." He explained, finally stepping into the abandoned vehicle.

As they got into the vehicle, its magitechnological interior was as much alien as one would expect. It was a strange mixture between sci-fi and traditional fantasy, with pipes spreading out everywhere, with wide wires, most of them disrupted and non-activated scattered everywhere.

Broken screens and useless artifacts existed in great quantity, along with crystals devoid of glow, but that somewhat resembed a miniature of Power Stones from Eastern Brisshal.

"Say the word, and I will help you to push heavy things around. It is better to have two pair of muscles than just one, right buddy?" He joked a bit, approaching, one of the scraps and then peeking at the fellow faerin.

"As for what I wanted to ask of you... It is very simple. But... There are some cores. Magia cores. They are fairly important. I'm not sure if they had showed you one, but they... Potentially have the consciousness of victims from this disaster, maybe some even from the past, from the early days of the Dragonfall." Hanno said, giving a bittersweet smile.

"Make sure to return those, alright? We need to identify everyone."

"Ah, um, well... that's, you see..."

Suddenly the fae started fidgeting a bit while the giant machine shook its head and let out a robotic sigh.

"MY CREATOR'S INCOMPETENCY IN NAMING THINGS HAS RESULTED IN HER CREATIONS NOT HAVING ANY NAMES. UNBELIEVABLE, IS IT NOT? I AM THIS NEGLECTED!"

"Names are hard, okay? I'm glad I was able to come up with one for myself in this place... nevermind, just call him robot-face or something."

"THIS IS VERBAL ABUSE AND ROBOT PROTECTIVE SERVICES WILL BE CONTACTED!"

Thankfully (or perhaps unfortunately) the giant bot couldn't quite fit inside of the vehicle, so it remained outside while occasionally peering indoors to check up on the faerin duo. Mystia, in the meantime, started exploring the interior together with Hanno, casting the occasional glance at anything that looked interesting, although nothing seemed to catch her attention for long.

"Magia cores? They didn't show me anything of the sort, but based on the name alone, I could probably recognize one if I saw it. I suppose they didn't expect someone as low-ranking as me to be snooping around."

Hanno looked at Mystia with a curious expression as she started fidgeting, pondering what about his question sounded that embarrassing for her to be hesitant to answer- Which was when the nameless robot stepped in once again, answering on the place of his owner, and making Hanno let out an "Oh!" but then chuckling and shrugging.

"I get you, buddy." Hanno nudged the shield on his back, that rumbled quietly. "I took a long arse time to name my shield. And I didn't even do it myself, it was someone else that did it." He admitted, then looking at the big robot.

"Don't take it personally, buddy. If your master wants, I can help her out on giving you a name." Hanno suggested, looking at Mystia and smiling a bit, to give her a hint that he meant it.

Into the vehicle, Hanno continued to meticulously search for Magia Cores, something that Hanno decided to focus on as it seemed Mystia didn't know much about it. "Magia cores have the names of the victims in it. So it should be a bit intuitive to know when you see one... I am sure someone that has knowledge on Magitech will realize it is one when you see it though." Hanno said, with a hint of certainty.

His gaze then shifted to look at Mystia.

"If anything, it would be helpful to see one by yourself." He pushed a pile of scraps aside.

"At the very least, it is the source of how a Magia is created. It should be good for you to learn about it. We are going to need people that know how to do it."

Setting the matter of naming something that seemed to be rather sentient aside, Mystia didn't seem to be particularly thorough in her search. She wasn't exactly the type to get her hands dirty digging through sharp pieces of metal in unstable ruins that could fall apart and onto one's head at any moment. In such situations, she preferred to rely on her other abilities granted by the game. Although that brought about some slightly disappointing outcomes.

"Mm, no obvious sources of magical energy. Even whatever powered this thing up must have been completely destroyed a while ago..."

Without elaborating much further on her own, she let out a sigh and sat down on the most comfortable part of the machinery she could find, assuming a thinker's pose as her mind tried to dive a bit. Although that did not prevent her from coming up with a bit of a joke to accompany what Hanno was talking about.

"Creating magias? Surely it can't be all that much more difficult than building a 10 feet tall golem of destruction and programming a neural network into him for the sake of generating bad jokes and sass~"

She giggled afterward to indicate further that it was indeed meant to be a joke, just in case. She was well aware that some people who liked to be seen as the 'smart' types were often anything but that and merely used such a position to try to elevate themselves above others.

If Mystia didn't dare to touch the scraps and getting into the dirty work, Hanno was already sinking his hands into the piles of metal and pulling them aside, opening the way and giving her a bit more of room for her to see what she wanted. "Yeah, this thing is deactivated for a long time by now." Hanno shrugged, tossing something aside and huffing.

An eyebrow then rose at Mystia's words, making him blink and chuckle a bit himself.

"Sounds like someone is confident. You know, if you really could do it, it would be great. But it seems like there are some complications... The cores are a bit picky, from what I've heard. They don't accept any magia body, it needs to get some proper sync and stuff." How exactly it worked? Hanno had no idea. But he knew each core needed a particular body.

"Maybe it is some Operational System compatibility? Uh... Lack of RAM? I don't know." He frowned, confused about it.

"Or they need bodies that aren't too unlike their original ones."

Mystia simply stated the most simple condition that might have been at play. If Occam's razor was at play here, then it wasn't anything too complicated, simply the fact that the core, or perhaps the 'soul' inside of it remembered the body that the being used to have. But that arose a different question, one that was indeed rather problematic. How exactly could you create a mechanical body that was similar enough to what the individual was prior to their... core-ification? The Vintergard magia clearly had some means of doing so, or perhaps they merely forced things to work?

"Well, that aside, I guess a lot of this tech wasn't working even before the battle? All I know is that this mess happened sometime during the game's absence, but I've never explored her until now as it was apparently far too dangerous."

Maybe a small history lesson wouldn't be amiss, although the fae didn't want to ask her current guide and protector directly. For one, she wasn't particularly sure how much the Lion even knew... and two, well, he was already much too kind showing her around. She just didn't want to bother him too much.

Hanno tilted his head while looking at @Mystia, pausing and pondering deeply about her suggestion before muttering- "Maybe you are right..." He nodded. "But honestly, I know very little about magitechnology and tinkery tools. Only what my old friends had told me before." And it was far, far more different than what they had currently, to a point it was actually a whole different thing, impossible to consider it similar in any manner.

"You could say that... Basically everything was already kinda broken when we came here. It is kinda hard for everything to be working when thousands and thousands of tons heavy of a flying ship falls and crash on a palace and a whole capital." Hanno scratched his neck, giving a half shrug while he continued to work on the rubbles and scraps.

As he meddled around, however, something was accidentally sweeped aside when he moved a hand in a brushing motion.

A pyramid shaped object, that rolled around like a d4 dice before landing aside. Initially... Hanno continued to meddle his hand through the scraps, but at some point, the pyramid released an echoing clicking sound, enough to snatch the attention of the faerin warrior. A cyan brim escaped between the edges of the object, and Hanno, unsure of what it would be, rushed in almost a leap near Mystia, taking his shield off his back way to quickly to look believable, considering the side it had.

Forcing his protective stance between the faerin girl and the pyramid, Hanno braced himself for anything, with his shield even rumbling once again, even if it kept its mundane apperance.

A hostility, an explosion, or any contraption that could prove to be dangerous. However, nothing happened, with the pyramid simply glowing, and a small portion of its tip suddenly raising like a protuberance, hinting to be a button.

Raising an eyebrow, Hanno remained wary, but less tense.

"... The hell?" He muttered, glancing at the object, then back at Mystia.

"Mm, I've heard that this was a capital city, once. It's a bit hard to imagine now..."

A hint of sadness in the girl's voice somewhat betrayed how she might have felt about that topic. The idea that so many lives were probably lost during that event. Even if she knew only the basics, imagination did the rest, often filling that void with the worst possible outcome. She shook her head and tried to focus on her magical sight, only to be suddenly met with a rushing Hanno, causing her to take a quick panicked step back.

"WHOA-"

Surprises like that weren't good for her heart! Her fellow faerin did not tackle her, as his charge almost suggested, instead trying to shield her from... something? The small of her hands pressed against Hanno's back as the girl curiously looked over his shoulder while staying close, a faint glow emerging past the silvery locks that hid one of her eyes.

"W-wanna tell me what that was about? I felt my heart skip a beat!"

Even now, it was racing wildly within her chest, trying to pump adrenalin in preparation for another possible fight or flight response coming.

Hanno frowned, looking at the pyramid and then back at Mystia again, when he felt her hand resting on his back. "I... I don't know, there is this thing I tossed aside, but it apparently is still working." His stance loosened again, watching the object intently for another couple of seconds, but with nothing in particular happened.

After another moment of silence, Hanno glanced at Mystia. "Stay here." Hanno said. "Ghast, keep her safe if anything happens." He said to the shield, letting it go while tentacles grew beneath it, attaching to the ground while the shield rumbled, 'standing' as a cover for Mystia and having one eye opening widely in its center to watchthe faerin warrior approached the pyramid.

Hanno crouched near the pyramid, squinting, and taking a nearby stick to try and touch it a couple of times, making another sudden click occur, and the pyramid to 'open' in four parts, while an hologram suddenly appeared, making the faerin blink surprised.

SB88Fyw.jpg

The female figure flickered, having mostly a monochromatic and overly saturated teal color all over her frame, making her seem like some ethereal vision. Her shape flickered, twisting and glitching like a screen that couldn't keep enough signal.

"G̘̟̦͙̹̜ͦ̓̑̉̕r͓̗̊̌̂̕ͅẽ̸͓͈̭̤̖̞̯̰3̧͎̹̱̮̘̎̄̾ͅ ̥͉̉ͦ́ṯ̢̝̠̖̆͋̇ ̪̺̬̻̦̞͔̓͂͝n̡̗̰̹̼̒g̘̺̻̯̫͗̑͜ ̙̬̏͢

Her voice whimpered, with her words sounding more like a plea than a question.

The image flickered out again, becoming overwhelmingly unstable, and the own pyramid's energy seemed to falter, with a sizzling sound coming from the pyramid while the unintelligible words from the hologram escaped in the form of desperate shrieks.

Hanno's eyes grew wide, unsure of what to do as he looked around, taking the pyramid with his hands and becoming a bit anxious himself. "Shit, this probably isn't good. How does..." His teeth gritted, looking at Mystia. "... Can you do anything about this?" He asked, swallowing the lump in his throat.

"E-even if it's functional, it can't possibly have that much mana in it, I would have 'seen' it if that were the case!"

Ah, she still hadn't explained that one, had she? No matter, right now was not the time for that. Clearly, the more experienced one of the two thought it was worth approaching with caution, which was sound logic. However, Mystia would never advocate for the approach that he took. Being placed behind what appeared to be a demonic shield, the girl shivered a bit as she meekly looked over the shield's edge.

"W-wait, hold on, that's not following safety protocols of any kind! Just get back, I can have my robot break in here and-"

Her pleas were not in time for Hanno to stop poking the item, making it suddenly erupt with blue light and a somewhat distorted hologram. It was... well, it was certainly humanoid, but from a greater distance, and with only one functional eye, the girl couldn't make out much else before it all faded away.

Before anything else, she rushed from behind the shield and nearly slid down the floor toward Hanno, squatting down in front of him and pulling back one of her sleeves to reveal some kind of long forearm cover with various buttons on it. With a press of a blue one, a beep sounded in the distance, and a tiny drone flew into the ruin, stopping by the girl. At the same time, a familiar voice sounded from the outside.

"MEDICAL DRONE DISPENSED. WHAT ARE YOU TWO DOING IN THERE TO ALREADY BE INJURED?"

Mystia didn't bother answering, more worried about Hanno's wellbeing, although the other fae was clearly more worried about the small device than himself.

"Do anything about it..? You mean to make it work again? Could try to recharge it with mana, if its magitech then it should be powered similarly to my tech, but... only if you feel alright."

Hanno's overprotectiveness blinded and deafened himself from Mystia's warnings, one that he honestly should've given a bit more of attention to. However, when it came to protect others, Hanno didn't have a lot of second thoughts, albeit it almost seemed to trigger another problem he wasn't expecting, that was essentially a faltering magitech tool of the sorts.

Ghast blinked at the faerin girl simply sliding past her wide form, and a rumble escaped from her while she crawled with her tentacles to approach the faerin duo.

Noticing Mystia's approach, Hanno glanced at her arm and all the quick button pushing, followed by the drone and the familiar voice. "We aren't injuried-!" Hanno responded to the drone, then looked at Mystia, who seemed worried about him, making his expressions and panic soften for a moment, trying to not bury even more concern into her.

"It isn't me, Mystia... It is this piece, there is... There is someone in here. She was screaming in... Fear? Pain? I'm not sure. But she didn't seem to enjoy that this thing is failing her." He shook the pyramid piece, that still had some brim into it, but was mostly hissing like a failing radio.

"I am alright, I promise." He said.
