Creation

... In an empty, monotone room, the girl was met with a perfect mimic. The model was no different from her own body, a true doppelganger, except lacking her usual outfit and having black underwear instead.

Kyanna looked puzzled at the model, approaching it and poking it a few times. It was so uncanny, it was truly herself.

Tools were soon presented to her. She could sculpt the model in front of her as she wished, and soon it occurred in her mind that she was in a character creation. Well, no wonder there was a big 'NAME' button over there. Clearing her throat, Kyanna nearly instinctively started working on her 'avatar', being mostly used to RPGs, she already had in mind how she wanted her character to look like, at least until something crossed her mind.

'My mother won't recognize me.'

Her hands leaned away, taking one last glance at her mimic before reaching for the 'NAME' button.

'I will find you.'

She finished typing her own name.

Kyanna Wynne there.

Kyanna Wynne here.

And with a press of a button... A blinding flash of light suddenly engulfed her eyes.

Surrounded by flames and a deafening wind, Kyanna barely managed to open her eyes, seeing a whole world beneath her. A layer of clouds covered most of the surface she was heading into. She couldn't really breath, but at the same time, she didn't feel like she was suffocating. It simply felt natural, as if she wasn't really there yet, but rather still being summoned into that world.

Her eyes shifted to gaze at another trail of light, a shooting star. She wasn't sure, but it was falling along with her, perhaps a bit farther, but before she could figure it out, the layer of clouds was finally reached, cloaking her vision momentarily and forcing her to try and look down, realizing the ground was finally coming closer.

The speed was overwhelming, scary even. But faith in her heart told her that everything would be alright.

Soon, the air-piercing force that was sending her straight to the ground slowed down, clearing all the deadly speed that was going to crush her against the ground real soon.

Kyanna waited patiently for her to land, but due to a mischievous destiny, she ended up stuck on a tree, entangled by its vines and stuck on branches while upside down, blinking surprised.

"H-Hey! Let me down!" She struggled for a moment, making her feet slip and causing her to nearly fall once again, making her squeak in fear. Thankfully, the vines were still managing to hold her, stopping her from going face first in a dangerous fall, but making her dangle like a Christmas Tree decoration. realizing her predicament, the girl decided to remain still, unsure of how long those vines would endure her weight.

"Uhm... Help?" Kyanna looked around. "Anyone! Can anyone help me?!" She pleaded.

Katya had never tried any Deep Dive VR Game, especially after the mandated VRSA ban of Terrasphere. For her, the tech behind the game sounded too good to be true. But after hearing a piece of information from a trusted source of a sighting of her former groupmate, she had to jump in to see for herself. With the top of the line VR headset, she dove into the game she obtained through a secret QR code distributed on the internet.

VRSA wouldn't ever dare to touch her, especially here in Russia.

It was unbelievable, like getting into a lucid dream. In front of her stood a perfect copy of herself, standing still like a mannequin. How did they get all the details right? The amount of data pulled from her brain and processed in such a short time when she first logged in was unbelievable, it was almost magical. Presented with the choice to remake her own in-game experience, she simply brushed the menus off believing she was already the perfect version of herself.

"Eva."
She said, naming herself after the first woman in the world.

Suddenly, she was transported into orbit, burning bright falling down toward the world like a falling star. Eva had seen this particular view many times in battle royale games, but feeling the sound-breaking dive down for herself was a very different experience. Landing on the empty plains of grass safely, Eva would see the UI start to boot up around her view. She inspected her current body, which is very lifelike and indistinguishable from her own real one. The game spawned her already equipped with simple pants and a shirt, and a pair of leather boots like the ones you see in fantasy media.

"Anyone! Can anyone help me?!"

She looked at the woods behind her, where another person seemed to also just have spawned from the sky. Walking closer, she found a petite girl dangling upside down entangled by vines, like a spider's prey. Eva looked at the girl unblinking. "I can help," she said, positioning herself below the dangling girl. The height should be safe enough to catch her without straining her own back. "Start wiggling, I will catch you."

Kyanna perked up at the voice, and the girl shifted her position to try and look at whoever had just spoken.

The perspective was a bit weird and dizziness-inducing, but it didn't take long for her to spot the silvery-haired woman. "Y-You can?" She asked, trying to not squirm too much to move, having her eyes following the newcoming figure that was soon beneath her.

At the confirmation, Kyanna smiled. "Ah! Thank you, thank you! Uhm, just wait a moment, I..." She squirmed, taking a deep breath. "... Alright, here it goes-" Kyanna quickly started struggling, wiggling and making the treetop shake along with the vines that entangled her, slowly loosening and making the girl feel slightly nervous...

However, the reminder that the stranger was ready to catch her brought an easiness that allowed her to keep going, and eventually, her upper body was released, making her squeak, having only one vine holding her leg, which endured her weight for just a second before it snapped.

"AAAH-!" Her eyes grew wide, and she tried to curl as she fell, bracing herself for an impact.

The girl dark-haired girl started to wiggle out of her bindings, as the woman below her relaxed her muscle and prepared to catch her.

"AAAH-!"

Using her whole lower body to absorb the momentum like a suspension system, Eva felt her muscle stretching as the weight of the girl almost brought her to her knees. Looks like her body in this world isn't as fit as the real one, most likely tied to the leveling system. "Relax," She reassured the girl by smiling, but her neutral tone made it seem robotic. "I said I will catch you, didn't I?"

She let the girl down from the bride carry position, before massaging both of her own thighs. "... What a bad system, letting new players fall from the sky like that." The white-haired woman coldly criticized, as if this was a video game review. There was no tutorial, no quest, or even pointers whatsoever, so Eva quickly tried every mainstream gesture she knew. Two-finger swipe, three-finger swipe, two hands zoom out, finger snapping? Nothing came out. The girl beside her probably was as clueless as she was.

Opening her palm faced-up, suddenly an assortment of option menus came out. "Ah," she voiced out, probably to indicate to the other girl of her findings. Her eyes scanned up and down, "There's no map." She calmly stated. The woman assumed that the first thing people should do in RPGs is to find the nearby town, as danger may lurk around beginners like them.

Kyanna's eyes were still wide open, wIth her heart racing from the fall that - despite expected - surprised her. However, the stranger did keep her promise, and Kyanna looked at her and listened to her reassurance, softening her expressions and smiling gratefully.

"Y-You did, thank you so much!" She said sheepishly from her position and carefully getting back to her feet when released, letting out a brief and relieved sigh. "It sure is... I felt like a meteor." Kyanna looked up to the skies, covering her eyes with her hand to avoid the sun instinctively, but... Wasn't it kinda dark already? Wait, it was almost like how it was in real life.

Shifting her gaze to look at the stranger, she tilted her head, seeing her gestures and trying to mimic them along. "No map? What do you- EH?!" She jumped startled when the UI Menu appeared, blinking and leaning in.

"Oooh, right. Super powers! We are in another world so it is only fair!" Kyanna huffed, excited about it before turning to the stranger.

"But... No maps... And sun is almost completely gone." Kyanna rubbed her neck. "Do you want to try to find a town, or should we find a shelter and wait for the day?" She wondered.

"But... No maps... And sun is almost completely gone."

"Hm, we have to get going now." The snow-haired woman simply nodded, closing the palm UI as she looked around. There's a road nearby that ought to bring them to at least a place of interest.

"Do you want to try to find a town, or should we find a shelter and wait for the day?"

She processed the question for a while. If the time in this game runs 1:1, it'll be more than half a day till the sun rises. "Let's find the town." Eva decided, walking forwards and gesturing for Kyanna to follow along. She bent down, grabbing one rock in case a weapon was going to be needed.

The sky quickly turned dark as the pair followed the road, still no city, village, or town in sight. Not to mention that as freshly-spawned characters none of them have light sources. "Stay close to me, and look out for anything. As with RPG games, there might be wild animals, bandits, or worse... " She paused, noticing torches in the distance. "... Hostile players."

"Get going and no shelter? Alright." Kyanna nodded, giving all her trust in the experience of the stranger that had just rescued her, following her while remaining wary about everything in their surroundings. "There isn't even any trail for us to use. I wonder if we are in some sort of deep woods..." Kyanna wondered, looking around and sometimes casting a glance at the lady next to her.

There was a moment of silence, and when Kyanna reminded herself of something, her mouth partially opened as she was ready to speak once again, but she was quickly interrupted by the woman's words, which made her eyes grow wide when she saw the vague torch lights wandering between the trees.

"Hostile players..?" Kyanna muttered, sideglancing at a dense vegetation, and gently tugging the woman's sleeve, urging for her to follow before Kyanna rushed to hide in there, looking at the other whenever she approached.

"A game like this would have hostile players? Don't people die for real in here?" Kyanna asked, incredulous.

"There isn't even any trail for us to use. I wonder if we are in some sort of deep woods..."

"Maybe. There's a rocky path, so that should lead somewhere."

She pointed around the ground they were currently walking in, indicating that people have at least tried to make some kind of a makeshift guided road towards a place.

"A game like this would have hostile players? Don't people die for real in here?"

"Yes. Probably either those who don't believe the deaths are real, or kind of people who get the enjoyment out of killing without having to deal with the real-world consequences."

The woman explained, pausing before realizing that the girl knew about the risks, unlike most of the people she talked to in the real life that dismissed it as a marketing strategy. She turned her head towards the dark-haired girl, "You know this fact, but decided to play the game."

The frosty woman did not even bother to hide behind the woods as Kyanna did, instead, she continued to walk toward the torch lights as if she was trying to confirm her suspicion. There were multiple people noticing her movement, quickly shouting at her. "Who's there?!" Eva raised both of her hands after hiding the rock in her pocket, slightly waving to indicate that she was not a threat. "An adventurer," she responded, implying that the girl should stay hidden for now.

Four men with torches came into view. Judging by their garb, they're most likely adventurers or hunters. "Oh, look at that. A newbie," One mentioned, confirming he was a player while bringing the torch closer to her. "A cute one, too. Say, miss, why don't you go with us?" She kept smiling, with eyes closed without giving an answer. Behind the hidden squinting eyes, she was looking at their movements; one person seemed to have their hand ready with their dagger; indicating they were up to no good after all.

Who wouldn't believe deaths aren't real? This was no game, this was another world! Her mother was in it, after all- according to all the research she had done, and after going through all the devices her mother had in the day of her death on Earth.

When the woman pointed out the fact Kyanna was playing the game despite knowing all of this, the girl smiled. "Of course. I have an important mission to accomplish." She said, only not elaborating further because of the interruption caused by the newcoming strangers, that kept Kyanna away in her hiding spot while the woman seemed to take the lead of being the face between the two.

Unsure of what she could do about it, Kyanna opened her UI Menu, quickly reading through her Masteries and her abilities, squinting at some descriptions that were certainly... Very vague and open. It was almost as if her abilities had no limitations as long as they were within the boundaries of her capabilities. Was that how it worked?

Meanwhile, the other half of her attention remained on the woman and the other strangers, with Kyanna being ready to try and act as soon as anything occurred.

"Of course. I have an important mission to accomplish."

"Must be pretty important." If the girl didn't want to elaborate, no reason for her to stick her own nose in this business.

The only logical course of action was to run. No matter how slippery she was in the real world, there was not even one percent of chance that the white-haired woman was going to be able to handle four experienced adventurers while being a newbie herself, especially with the mastery-based system this game has. Not to mention that the masteries she picked on character creation won't help in this situation.

One guy stepped closer, it was now or never. Her right hand quickly reached for the rock she had hidden as her left hand extended to reach the adventurer's torch, grabbing it while tossing the rock to his face. "Ouch! What the hell?!" The one guy groaned, while his friends quickly got into combat stances. With no time to waste, she ran off with the torch while warning Kyanna. "Run!"

The four of them started to follow her trail, chasing the torch-bearing woman through the woods.

With her eyes darting between her UI with her masteries and the woman with the strangers, it didn't surprise Kyanna that much when the woman went for a sucker punch-- Or rather, sucker rock to the face-- before exclaiming the other to run.

For a moment, Kyanna staggered. The woman was going to be the bait? It worried her for a moment, at the same time she felt bad for the man that had just received a rock to his face. Her UI closed, and she clasped her hands together, not daring to run away just yet, at least not before she felt a warmth spreading across her hands and then the ground, a moment before vines and roots erupted from the ground.

"Watch out!" She warned the woman.

They were far from being large or enormous, being just sizeable enough to hold onto ankles and maybe trip someone.

This sight of the girl and the roots growing on the ground near the strangers would eventually be visible by them, with the woman rushing closer with her torch and revealing that Kyanna was still standing in place, certainly delaying her run to try and slow the ambushers down.

The adventurers ran behind Eva, having difficulties navigating through the forest. One of the men suddenly moved at an incredible speed, leaving dust trails with every dash as he closed the distance. He extended his arm, trying to pull the snow-colored long hair.

"Watch out!"

Hearing the girl's warning, her eyes quickly scanned around and realized the vines and roots growing in front of her. Jumping over it, the speedster behind Eva never saw it coming and tripped, sending himself flying through the woods at a high speed before his head impacted a big tree.

Closing near the bush that the petite girl had been hiding in, her eyes widened in surprise that she hadn't even tried to escape yet. "Come!" The white-haired girl pulled the nature magic user's arm to run with her. While running, the woman swung the torch left and right, lighting the surrounding shrubbery on fire to distract the chasers. It was gonna be a matter of time before the whole forest catch fire.

Kyanna winced watching the man going face first onto a tree, swallowing and for a moment asking inside her mind if the man would be alright--

However, there was no time to think or ask anything, with the woman approaching rapidly and already snatching her arm, tugging her out of the danger by force, since the witch girl was too careless to do it herself right away.

"W-Wait, you will burn all the forest down!" Kyanna exclaimed worriedly, with her eyes growing wide as she was pulled away.

Despite the initial protest, Kyanna hurried her steps, trying to keep her pace enough to not be a bother for the woman, avoiding letting her bear not only the weight of decisions but also the literal weight of carrying her out of there.

"Why this has to be happening, why can't they just leave us alone?" She whined, looking behind her back to see their chasers struggling for a moment before disappearing from sight... But for how long..?

"W-Wait, you will burn all the forest down!"

Eva did not respond and continued to set fire to the trees and bushes with the torch while circling back toward their original path, surrounding the area where the men were with flaming vegetation. Once they found the rocky path again, the pair continued to run at full speed until there were no signs of the chaser to their behind.

"Why this has to be happening, why can't they just leave us alone?"

"It's us or them,"

Eva slowed down, trying to catch her breath. After making sure the adventurers have lost their trail amidst all the fire, the woman just stoically gestured Kyanna to move on.

"And you have an important mission. Let's go."

After a minute of walking, they finally made it out of the woods, into an intersection where several paths connected. There's a wooden sign that pointed to "Stokbon - Capital", indicating that at least they were going towards a city.

"It's us or them,"

Those words echoed in Kyanna's mind, and she shook her head in a momentary denial.

The rush got Kyanna's heart racing, her lungs burning, and her legs aching- Surely, in real life, she was extremely energetic, but it seemed like this 'new body' wasn't entirely used to it. Kyanna would need to work on it, though it would only truly occur after they were done with the chase.

Supported by a hold on her arm, Kyanna managed to give one last push of a run, nearly stumbling at the last sprint until they finally slowed down enough.

"Ah... Ahah..." Kyanna held her chest, soon leaning onto the sign and using it to support herself.

"I-I... That was a lot of a run... This... This body is nothing compared to my non-virtual one..." She rose her face, trying to catch her breath and side-glancing at the sign, then back at the woman, seemingly desiring to pause, as her legs were trembling. "... Y-Yeah, I have a special mission... B-But I need a rest too." Kyanna giggled tiredly.

"... Y-Yeah, I have a special mission... B-But I need a rest too."

Not efficient, but Eva did not comment on that, since being exhausted was understandable. She nodded, arms folded waiting for the younger girl to catch her breath.

Around one minute passed, and they continued on the path toward this capital. Seeing light and city walls in the distance, the woman pointed out. "The city's close." All the fatigue from walking and running disappeared as soon as they spotted the safe place. Walking closer to the gate, a guard halted them, probably because it was almost night and they didn't seem to be familiar faces.

"Greetings, we're looking for..."
She stopped. Both she and the girl have just spawned into the world and in no way they could pay for anything. But after eyeing both of their clothes, the guard quickly understood what she was implying and pointed to the inside of the city.

"Ah, new Starfallens? You two can seek shelter at that tavern on the corner, they work with the Guild and Lion's Pride to provide facilities for people like you."

Nodding at the Falderen guard, she gestured Kyanna to follow her inside the city while commenting. "This world's not as cruel as I thought, it seems. Organizations helping newer players."

Quickly getting to the city, Kyanna left the talking to the woman that companied her, looking around with a curious expression on her face, impressed at the fantasy world, even if it was already too dark to see everything.

When the woman was done, Kyanna followed her right away, getting to the path for the supposed tavern.

"A world can't be cruel at all. Even if it was, there is you in it, and you've saved me twice!" Kyanna said with a smile, certain that as long as there were people in this world, there was a chance for kindness, no matter how dark things were.

Her attention didn't avert from the woman, "So much happened, that we didn't even introduce ourselves properly." Kyanna said, then took a step closer, almost nudging the older woman.

"My name is Kyanna, Kyanna Wynne. What's yours?" She asked, with eyes brimming with the city's night time lights, just as they reached the corner of the tavern.

"A world can't be cruel at all. Even if it was, there is you in it, and you've saved me twice!"

"It just happens that we're both around. No one's ever acted on kindness alone." Harsh, but true. Anyone else would've done the same, but for the sake of their own survival. As for her, she just did it out of pity.

Nothing else.

"My name is Kyanna, Kyanna Wynne. What's yours?"

"Eva."
The woman coldly replied as she pushed the door to the tavern, bright lantern lights finally greeted them after being in the dark for so long.

Most likely recognized their starter outfits, the tavernkeeper greeted them as soon as they stepped into the rather empty establishment. "Ah, welcome. Get a table, I'll be with ya two soon." There were like only two or three other patron groups, minding their own business. Eva motioned the girl to follow her and sit at the farthest table.

After a while, the tavernkeeper came back with two servings of warm soup and bread. "Here ya go. Also, I have a spare room in the back, but I've been told that yer kind might not need sleep or that kind of thing." The older woman just nodded and gave a simple "Appreciate it."

She started to slowly munch on the bread silently.

"So you didn't help me out of kindness?" Kyanna asked, leaning in and smiling playfully, perhaps even teasing as she leaned in as she gently nudged the older woman. "Liar. You had nothing to gain from saving me." She giggled, leaning away and looking at her.

"It is very nice to meet you, Eva. Thank you so much for saving me." Kyanna beamed, just before they finally got into the tavern.

It took a moment for them to finally get a table and some food going, and the Fungi Witch joyfully showered grateful words for the hospitality of the tavernkeeper, taking a spoon of the soup and perking up in surprise. "W-Woah, this is... Just as tasty as the real thing." She said, with sparkly eyes as she looked up at Eva.

"... Say, you may look just like me, new at this game... World? Well! You look like new, but you seemed to know about this place much better than me already... How? Did you have access to a wiki or tutorial? I couldn't find anything like that online."
She sighed.

"Liar. You had nothing to gain from saving me." The girl teased, nudging her while giggling. Eva pretty much gave up any notion of disagreeing and just sighed while deadpanning at Kyanna.

"It is very nice to meet you, Eva. Thank you so much for saving me."

The woman might be cold, but she was far from rude. "Likewise, Kyanna." She nodded.

"Did you have access to a wiki or tutorial? I couldn't find anything like that online." The white-haired woman slowly shook her head while still enjoying her warm, filling soup. "Not in detail, no. VRSA wiped off all traces of information about this game. You can still find it in the corners of the shadier part of the web, after all..." She took a spoonful of the soup again, seemingly enjoying its taste before continuing. "... The game's illegal."

Her sharp eyes examined the dark-haired girl, who couldn't be older than twenty. Eighteen? Nineteen, maybe? Speaking of which, those adventurers that messed with her looked young too. What is it with young people and their tendency to throw themselves into something deadly?

"Your mission." Eva set aside her empty soup bowl, her piercing gaze directed toward Kyanna's eyes. "It must be so important that you're willing to jump into a place where you can die for real."
