Slimes was what Ilya decided on to use as an introductory to combat for Fina. They were weak, the weakest of weak. Ilya could easily kill them in one swing, but it still was enough to simulate enough of the combat system to teach her friend. Thus she took the two of them to the fields of Dunnstads right outside of Stokbon. Without travelling too far so that the two of them wouldn't encounter any stronger monsters, Ilya turned towards Fina. "We'll be fighting some slimes, they're very weak monsters and they barely hurt if at all." Ilya's ears would flick as she tried to pick up the slimey sounds of the slimes she was hunting as they slid or hopped around the ground. "Even in groups, they're easy to take out. Even if it's tedious without any AoE attacks."

Ilya turned most of her attention back towards Fina, however part of it was still centered on being aware of her surroundings. Even if she knew the area they were in, there was still the very small possibility of a stronger monster appearing, as this world could be unpredictable. Ilya would give Fina a few moments to study the area around them. "Lesson one, even if you know where you are and what monsters are usually around you. Stay alert, you never know what might randomly show up. Be aware of your surroundings." Ilya held up her finger, "Now with that out of the way, are you ready to fight some slimes?"

It was pretty reassuring for Fina that Ilya accepted the girl's worries and even wowed to protect her on this trip, more or less. Of course, the feline had no idea how experienced of a fighter the lioness was… but she had few doubts that it was far more experience than she herself had.

As the fields opened up before them, the urge to run around like mad with no other care in the world crept up again. Fina didn't act on it, of course… not yet, anyway! They were here for a specific reason, and she would see it through! "Slimes, huh… so even this game went with that cliché." It seemed like poor slimes were always the introductory monster. Oh well, at least that meant a familiar territory, at least to some extent.

With the first lesson Ilya gave, Fina's ears twitched a few times happily. "Seems we've got a good advantage there, then! Hearing, smelling, sight… I got to enhance all of those senses by picking this race. It should be easier not to get jumped." Especially by something bigger and thus presumably also more dangerous. Unless a lot was happening at once, she'd hear them coming from a good distance away. "As ready as I'll be, I guess."

One would find it hard to resist the urge to just run around and have fun, and it was a good idea. After all, a lot of the low leveled monsters didn't target unless specific conditions were met. Even in that case they were relatively easy to take out. Slimes really being the only thing spawning in the area that the two girls had found themselves in.

Travelling a few steps more, it wasn't long before Ilya picked up on movement ahead. She nodded towards it, "Slimes don't attack unless they're hungry. So we should have advantage here." She would move further, hoping Fina was following after her. Ilya finally got to the point where she could see three Grass Slimes ahead.

Looking back Ilya would smile in reassurance, "It's pretty simple. Magic has an assist system that lets you just visualize the basic spells. I can give you more details but it's better to just experience it. You can also do physical attacks, i'll try my best to show you a mix of both in this fight!" Ilya then dashed forward with ease.

The slime closest to her was then popped as soon as Ilya's fist made contact. Her brute force shredding through its weak defense, it was surely overkill.

Following closely behind Iliya, Fina quickly became aware of the numerous slimes that hopped and splashed all over the place. It was actually quite cute… which naturally meant that they had to end them in the most horrible ways imaginable.

"I see. So different monsters have their own behaviors then… well, I suppose that was to be expected from a game this detailed." Since not a single one of the slimes around them was currently charging the two girls, it was obvious that whatever those special conditions were, they were not fulfilled. Her lion friend then swiftly demonstrated how easily she could obliterate one of the cute blobs with her fists. "Hooo~" Observing the action as closely as she could without getting in the way, Fina certainly seemed impressed.

Taking a few steps toward one of the remaining two slimes, the feline would squat down to stare at the thing for a few moments as its jelly body bounced up and down, a thoughtless smile plastered across most of its body. "No thoughts, just happy. How envious." Getting back up, the girl decided it would be best to dispatch the thing before she got too attached to its cuteness. Combining magic with physical attacks… definitely sounded like something she could do with the masteries she had chosen.

Focusing for a bit, the floating foci positioned itself next to Fina's body as it glowed briefly. Then, the girl's mana started materializing and forming a longsword. One that looked like it was almost entirely made out of beautiful gems… was that just because it was made out of mana? Either way, the lynx swiftly grabbed the grip and tried to move in. It was then that her body suddenly started moving on its own, at least partly. Dashing to the side, she would almost get right behind the creature and then perform a single decisive strike, slicing the poor thing in two.

The girl stood in place as soon as it was done, somewhat dumbfounded. "What… was that? An assist function?" She experienced something similar in other VR games she tried in the past, but none of them were ever quite this aggressive in taking control over one's body. Was that because Terrasphere could interact with one's mind much more due to its lack of restrictions?

Ilya clapped her hands as her friend took on the materialization of a sword using her newly acquired foci to ignite her magic. Her eyes then began watching her carefully as Fina made a move for the Slime. "Good job!" Ilya called out to her, complimenting the performance. "Yeah, this game has that set in place. Otherwise you have to rely on your own reflexes and body. Granted the more you level skills, the higher your reflexes, agility, etc, etc will get." While Ilya was talking the remaining slime had made its way over to her, moving cutey as it hopped to slam its body against her. It landed just at shin height and bit down before letting go and dropping back down.

Despite the fact that Ilya had taken damage, the fact that Slimes had no teeth helped her not feel as much pain as she would have felt, given if it was a wolf. Ilya made no reaction to the light numbing in her shin as she made her reaction attack. Ilya looked at Fina, "Time to spice it up a bit?" She closed her eyes and began to mumble a chant. Light shining around her body, making her golden hair appear to glow.

"Aid me in my battle, O' Great Ys. Ignite my will." Ilya opened her eyes, a sharp hue glowing in the center as she fueled her body with her magic. A divine smite raining down on the remaining slime, causing it to shred into pieces and die in a puddle of mush. "And just like that! We took on our first set of monsters together! I'm proud of you!" Ilya reached out her hand to offer Fina a high-five the angelic glow fading as she let her mana disperse.

"T-thanks." Though Fina replied like that, she was unsure if she should actually feel accomplished or not. After all, Ilya still did most of the work. And even for the one enemy that the feline finished off on her own, the whole motion was accomplished by the game itself. The girl merely started the attack with her movement, and all else was done for her. It almost felt a little bit cheap.

"I guess I should start practicing if I don't want to lose control of my body on a regular basis, huh?" Having to rely on her own reflexes and skills sounded a bit scary, but this game world also felt nothing like the physical world outside of the VR. Out there, even a turtle would probably outmaneuver Bianca. But here? She felt like nothing could stand in her way! It was honestly amazing that the game could do such a thing to her mind, if a bit scary.

Observing Ilya cast some kind of buff on herself and subsequently obliterated the last slime just as Fina predicted. She did return the high-five but also couldn't help but ask. "Um… do you have to recite that every time you want to use that ability? It seems like a lot to remember in the middle of a heated battle, especially if you got multiple of those…" After the question, she would stop feeding the sword her mana, letting it shatter into pieces as well. All that was left were wonderings about what all she could create.

Ilya smiled, "Well. There's also some hand movements I can use. I'm not super skilled in magic to where I can just imagine what I want outside of the assist mode since I'm a melee user. Usually I just use small chants when I do want to use my magic, cause I don't use it that often, and fighting without assist mode is a lot smoother for me. I don't like to feel like a puppet." Ilya nudged Fina's arm with her own as she continued her little speech.

"As for not losing control of your body. You could always try turning off the assist mode and fight that way. It might take a lot more getting used to, but there's no harm if you try now. We could find some more slimes so you could give it a try. At the end of the day it's up to you though." Ilya would then think for a moment.

"I don't know much about magic other than imbuing myself in protection, the basic healing spells and revive. But if I just...." Ilya trailed off as she began to move her hands a certain rhythmic way, light forming in her right palm. "Annnnd there. Everyone has their own style of casting, I just sorta go to the default. I'm not the most creative person... So you can come up with whatever works for you! Taking things from other games, books you might've read... Movies, etc. I bet if you practice enough you could even just think hard enough and cast a spell. Like uhhh, in DND where they shout FIREBALL! You could probably figure out how to do something like that but in your head." Ilya smiled at Fina, "Why don't you give turning off assist mode a try?"

"I see." Fina's response to everything Ilya just said might have been a bit lackluster, but she understood what was being conveyed. Casting spells certainly seemed like an interesting process that could somewhat differ from person to person. It was honestly impressive that the game could even process such a variety of inputs. So far, Terrasphere had yet to fail to amaze her. Anything and everything that was introduced to the feline seemed almost unreal, yet here she was, experiencing it all.

"I guess it's worth a try, yeah." Saying that she would open up her menu and start fiddling with it. She didn't know where to find the function but took an educated guess and followed a standard logical structure of how a proper UI should be designed. Sure enough, it didn't take her all that long to find the option and turn it off. There was no sense of change at all, so it obviously only applied to combat. None of her other actions so far were being manipulated by the game. Good to know!

Taking a deep breath, Fina would then close her eyes for a moment. A whirl of mana would surround her, almost like a small tornado with her being in the eye of the storm. It was no actual wind, of course. She lacked the appropriate mastery for that. Instead, the magical energy would eventually start forming into several different weapons. A greataxe almost as big as the lynx herself. A hammer of equally large proportions. A greatsword that could probably cleave boulders apart if one had enough strength. They all floated around the girl as she opened her eyes and grabbed the giant two-sided ax as it stopped right in front of her. "Okay!" Taking a few swings away from Ilya, it was honestly amazing how easily she could handle a weapon of that size and presumed weight. However, her unassisted swings were nothing to write home about.

Ilya's eyes glowed with pride, "Good job Fina!" Ilya clapped her hands gleefully. "Let's try it out!" Ilya's eyes began scanning the field. Her ears perked up, taking in every single sound that was made. Trying to locate another slime, she initiated her investigation mode. Her body moving as she followed the sounds that were being made. Using her tail, she beckoned Fina to follow her. Low and behold, Ilya picked up on a slight nibble. It surely wasn't a slime this time, instead as she moved through the grass and up a small hill... There it was.

A boar, it wasn't very cute, its tusks all mangled and chipped. It's fur was mangled and it looked like it was almost rotting. "That's our new target! Instead of the cute little slimes, let's get it!"

Ilya went up closer, until the boar's eyes locked with hers. It began stomping against the ground as it's focus went on her. "Quick, while I have it's attention!" Ilya focused on the boar, circling it with her body, once in awhile making a noise or a taunt to keep it's focus on her rather than her friend. "Go ahead and attack first, if you want me to help just give me a shout. I'll try to keep it's attention on me."

The praise earned naught but a small sigh, the girl feeling that maybe her partner was just trying to make her feel better. After all, it wasn't like she actually did anything worthy of praise. It was the empty words that always strung the most, too.

Still, they didn't dwell on it for long as Ilya decided that slimes made not for suitable practice targets. Fina didn't really understand why, but she did follow the other woman wherever it was that she was headed. Spotting the board, the feline would grip her weapon just a bit more tightly as she readied herself. Thankfully, the lioness took aggro, just like with the slimes. "O-okay…"

Even if she was supposed to do it quickly, the girl hesitated a fair bit. But ultimately, she would decide that the most straightforward thing she could do and not mess up would be a standard downward slash. As she sort of leaped toward the boar, she would do just that and bring her blade down onto it. "A-aah… why does it look like that?! And… smells… horrible!"

Right after the strike, the blade broke and disappeared as Fina took several steps back, covering her nose as it was assaulted by the smell coming from the beast's fresh open wound.

Not hearing Fina ask for her assistance, Ilya would continue to leave the beast to her. "It's just a- I honestly..." Ilya didn't know what had corrupted this boar. Most likely some residual dark magic energy. No matter what though, Ilya didn't want to leave it unattended to. For all she knew it could grow and mutate further and cause real chaos... It probably had the potential to even become a Boss-Class monster.

Not thinking too hard on it, Ilya took up the position of something she never thought she would do. Ilya took up the role of support, her divine magic being ignited.

She moved her hands using a holy spell to aid her friend and heal her of her wounds. She watched as the light seeped into Fina's skin. She ought to feel more rejuvenated and energized.

Ilya tightened her fists, "You've got this, i'm gonna leave it entirely up to you." Even though it was cruel, Ilya wanted the girl to gain more confidence in her abilities. What better way than throwing them into something on their own with little backing?

Whether or not Fina would hate her for it, Ilya didn't mind. As long as Fina could grow, that was what mattered here.

"Blech-" This thing really wasn't good for Fina's senses. The fact that Ilya couldn't answer the question wasn't exactly reassuring either. While the healing was lovely and left the feline feeling like she could run a marathon again, there was no way she was getting anywhere near that thing in order to finish it off. What if its blood was deeply poisonous and corrupting? She sure as hell didn't want to find out, so she had to get a bit more creative.

Tossing away her blade, it shattered back into mana upon first contact with the ground, leaving the girl unarmed for a brief moment. Raising her hand into the air, she started forming again soon enough, however. Many different blades of various sizes floated around her, all aimed directly at the boar. The moment that thing stopped moving for even a brief moment, they all rained down on it like divine punishment. Many missed, but plenty also hit. Pierced through and through, there was no way it could keep on going after that.

"Huff—" Leaning forward and resting her hands on her knees, the girl didn't feel quite exhausted physically… but definitely mentally. "So creating that many at once… is pretty rough, huh." She'd probably get used to it eventually, but this was her first time trying out an attack like that.

lion's pride...

Moves were displayed by Fina, and the lioness had watched with awe. It was always an amazing sight to see the moves and actions of others and their skills. Ilya herself only fighting with her fists, it was nice to see inspiration for potential future attacks from friends and foes.

Fina's last attack had slain the boar, meaning her experience would shoot up. It had a lot better goods than a slime would have, Ilya would look at the dead boar. "It's tusks are worth a penny at the Adventurer's Guild, you should sell them." Ilya would walk closer, not afraid of the corruption due to her Blessing of The Goddess. Anything harmful would be nulled out by her contract, meaning she could touch corruption directly and not be infected.

Ilya would reach forward to grab both tusks, where she then pulled them apart from each other. They ripped off the boar, and Ilya would turn to Fina. Holding them out for her to take, but not before she washed them off with her magically-refilling water canteen.

The sun had been setting for awhile, showing that it had already become dusk. Ilya had been in the game for awhile, and in the real world the time had also gotten pretty late. "I've gotta log off here soon, but if you like I can show you to the Adventurer's Guild.. Or we can grab a bite to eat or something?"

With the enemy dead at last, Fina could breathe a sigh of relief. This felt like a bit much for her first-ever combat in this game. But then again, it wasn't like she received much damage, and the support she received from Ilya was more than enough to keep things from going south. Approaching the dead bore same as her companion, she squatted down a bit further away while observing the whole collection process, an expression of mild discomfort forming. "A-ah… I see." She simply affirmed what was told to her and accepted the tusks when they were offered. A bit of gold for starters wouldn't hurt.

But that seemed to be about where their little adventure would end. "Right. Sorry for taking up so much of your time. You probably had completely different plans." Scratching one of her cheeks, the girl looked to the side for a bit, avoiding eye contact. The thought made her feel a bit bad, but at least this was all just a game. Missing a day or two would not necessarily have disastrous effects like it could in the physical world.

"Adventurer's Guild, huh..? At least it wouldn't be bad to know where it is. I don't wanna waste even more of your time with food and such." After a brief pause, the girl continued. "But, um… maybe if we meet again? I ought to repay you all of this somehow." She gestured at her outfit and the floating catalyst next to her as she spoke. As well as the whole introduction to the game's combat mechanics, there certainly was a good reason for why she should take Ilya out to eat at some point.

lion's pride...

Ilya reached forward and ruffled Fina's hair, grinning at her. "We can definitely hang out again, and don't apologize. You really didn't take much of my time at all. I always love hanging out with friends. Speaking of..."

Ilya opened her UI, focusing in on Fina as she tapped the 'Send Friend Request' button. "Another mechanic this game has, is the friend system. You can see when people are online, even shoot them messages if you want! That way we can message each other the next time we're both on and hang out or grab food or something."

Ilya then went on a brief description of how to get to the Adventurer's Guild from here, adding on at the end that if Fina should be berated for selling things, despite not being a member that all she had to do was mention Ilya's name and all things would work out.

Reassuring her that it wouldn't be a problem, Ilya would make her goodbyes. With the promises of another adventure on the horizon for the two of them, Ilya would log out, leaving Fina once again, alone.
