She wasn't sure when she stopped responding properly to the name "Linsday Clark". It had been a while, at least, since she'd last made her public appearance and had spent most of her time secluded and exploring the basics of Terrasphere. She'd become so engrossed during those days, and the medical equipment she'd had attached to herself to keep her fully immersed had been adequate to allow her to even sleep and relax within the world of the game. Her doctors had been bewildered that she hadn't been bedridden when she'd suddenly risen from her month-long slumber and proceeded to her shower. The checkup had been brief and she'd paid a decent sum to keep the man quiet as her private doctor.

It would do. After all, Terrasphere had been everything she'd imagined it could be and more. She'd met with a few UI-locked individuals and gathered some of their personal information to confirm their real-life identities and their status. In short, it was without a doubt possible to transmigrate into the world of Terrasphere. Not only that, but there were far more opportunities and a greater sense of freedom in that world than anything the real world could offer. It was clear, Terrasphere was the next frontier. Certainly, dangers existed in that world as much as the real world, but it was a chance that some people would be more than willing to take.

She rubbed her chin thoughtfully as she looked over her investment portfolio. She was by no means the richest woman in the world but she was certainly flush with cash until it became irrelevant. What she needed to do now was create a following on earth and then transfer it into the world of Terrasphere. She quickly went about ordering a virtual avatar of her terrasphere identity that she could use in the future before checking for invitations to any public speaking opportunities. There; an oratorical festival. That would work.

Now to test the waters. Her plan had a few stages to it, the first thing to do was to pay off one of the individuals who was filming the festival to upload her speech to the internet. Next was to write a speech as carefully as possible; the goal was to leak out the idea of transmigration to people and get a feel for the reactions of various communities while still framing it entirely in the hypothetical and also avoiding mentioning Terrasphere all together. Since the game was officially illegal it wouldn't be wise to sing its praises on a public stage even if there was a moderate level of freedom of speech in the country. It was a delicate dance because some would have suspicions about what she was implying but that was impossible to avoid. Ultimately she would target the communities with a favorable response to her words with new speeches framed in a more religious light using her Avatar.

A long game. But one that she planned on playing anyway.

"...and now I'd like to welcome Miss Linsday Clark, she has over a decade of experience as a public speaker since when she was very young and has won a number of awards including the European Chancellors Speech Award for Excellence. She, like the other keynote speakers, have been allowed to select their own topics just like you young people. Please take a moment to listen. Miss Clark?" The man at the podium said, gesturing to her.

She'd paused when he said her name the first time, but when he'd called for her she'd managed to right her attention. It had almost felt like the name Linsday meant nothing to her in those brief seconds. Attia was her real name, she realized, as she stepped up to the podium. She put her hands on the surface and looked out over the audience before smiling, "Space was the final frontier..." She began, before diving into her speech.

"...To articulate the idea that it is even possible to experience such things is difficult without seeing them first hand. But many of us here have witnessed them in the form of the rise of modern dive games. It is even possible that there are games out there so real that it borders on this idea of transmigration. But what is transmigration? Transhumanism..."

"...so I ask you to seriously consider the implications of what this means for our society, for good and ill. It goes without saying that as time passes the impact could be more significant than anyone can imagine. With overpopulation and the struggles many experiences in life, it is even possible that transmigration could be considered an opportunity to lessen the burden on both sides of the aisle. Thank you."

The applause was deafening as she stepped off the podium and smiled politely to the director before being escorted into the back past the other keynote speakers to wait in the VIP lounge. She'd wanted to hear the other speeches but apparently, they wanted to keep the small group of speakers off the stage to not distract from the person currently speaking. It made sense. Either way, she could enjoy some refreshments and wait for the notification that her speech had been uploaded. She threw herself into the couch and cracked open a bottle of water, chugging it down and relaxing into the cushions. Maybe she should get herself something this plush for her next trip into Terrasphere?

No matter how she wished otherwise, Bluebird... no, Mira could not simply spend all her life within Terrasphere. Certainly, she could live comfortably on the money saved and invested by the people that managed her, but they kept her moving, like a bird forever migrating from place to place.

There was a speaker in the VIP lounge, piping in the various speeches for those interested in listening. For most of the event Mira had ignored them, focused instead on a leather-bound journal. Scraps of song and simple sketches wove between the thoughts scrawled on their pages in curling script. Lately, most of those thoughts were about Terrasphere.

She paused, however, when Linsday began to speak. Mira could even feel a ghost of Bluebird's wings fluttering as the speaker's words began to register.

Transmigration. It was a familiar word, a familiar subject. Once she had been part of a family that sought such a freedom from this physical world, before it had been extinguished in a single night. To hear the topic roused feelings she had long ago forgotten.

...feelings that she had recently had about Terrasphere, and the world of Arcia.

She gently closed her journal as the woman entered the room. She gave her a moment to settle in before she finally approached.

"Miss Linsday Clark?" She smiled softly, hands folded in front of her. "My name is Mira Eden. I found the subject of your speech interesting; would you be willing to have a discussion?"

Attia glanced up from where she was sitting after a few seconds, once again taking a moment to register that someone was speaking to her. Her lip twitched inwardly but she kept her expression as still as possible, not wanting to give away any hint of what she was thinking about only for her to freeze in place when she saw who was standing there.

Mira Eden. How couldn't she know about her? She was a prominent public speaker with a very good backgound in a very particular topic. A specialist and also a personal-experience speaker. She was famous in a few circles because of her way of handling the subject matter. She was also drop-dead gorgeous. Attia cleared her throat and forced herself not to stare at the raven-haired bard that stood before her. Instead she offered an easy, if lopsided grin and got to her feet.

"Mira Eden, I've read some of your work, it's a pleasure," She said, offering a hand palm up to the woman. "Please just call me Linsday," She continued. If the woman accepted her gesture she would squeeze her hand once in polite greeting before offering her a seat. If not she would offer the seat anyway. Either way she would sit down after that, crossing her legs and leaning back in the couch.

"I would love to hear your thoughts, please," She said, gesturing once to allow the woman to initiate the conversation.

Mira smiled, accepting the handshake and taking the seat. The young woman carried herself well, with reserved movements and perfect posture. It was the sort of performance one might reserve for a public showing, and it didn't fit here, in this place meant to be a casual resting place.

Alas, she knew no other way.

"Hearing a speech on the subject of transmigration was unexpected. I have always found people less... appreciative when discussing the nature of the soul. There are few believers in this modern world." She was quiet, but there was no hesitation to her words. "Especially in the context of... technology. The line between spiritual and physical is rarely crossed."

Even she had not crossed that line before now. Before Terrasphere had come into her life...

Her gaze flickered briefly to her folded hands and the well-worn journal resting beneath them. Then she turned back to Linsday, the smile on her face weakening. "I suppose... I was curious as to what inspired the subject. You seemed quite sincere about it."

Attia tilted her head thoughtfully, she was expecting this the moment the woman approached her. Of course she would be curious as to why someone like her would be interested in transhumanism via technology so suddenly. There were probably plenty of people who followed her work that were thinking the same thing after that speech.

She leaned back and crossed her legs, trying to make herself look comfortable.

"I've had some insights recently that come from personal experience. Dive games are quite popular but there are some that are more interesting than others," She said casually, waving a dismissive hand as if the subject wasn't a particularly dangerous one.

"Generally speaking I've always been a bit of an escapist, experiencing things outside the norm and wandering places that I've been warned against wandering." She said coyly, she wasn't going to outwardly admit that she played such an illegal game, but her gut told her that teasing the subject a little might get some interesting results.

"They are quite interesting, are they not?" Mira nodded, her smile more sincere. A note of excitement colored her voice now. "It was only recently that I began playing. Technology is not my forte, as you may have guessed."

It was, after all, the one thing she was known for.

"It is a good escape though, isn't it? I find it delightfully amusing how it is technology that can give us the ability to experience a life without it." She covered her mouth as her smile widened. Terrasphere was something she wasn't supposed to speak about. Even her manager wasn't aware she played - they just assumed she had finally decided to join the modern world. There was something delightful about being able to keep that secret, and know she was talking about something forbidden.

It was nostalgic.

"In fact, I think many would benefit from that experience. Too many people rarely even leave their homes anymore, let alone the cities they live in...""

Attia's smile widened a little as she nodded. So she played too. Attia wasn't surprised, someone like Mira wouldn't be able to resist their curiosity if an opportunity like Terrasphere presented itself. She tilted her head thoughtfully at Mira's phrasing. 'Technology that can give us the ability to experience a life without it'. It was practically the Terrasphere slogan.

"It's certainly a spectacular experience. The wind blowing through my hair on an a world unlike that of earth. The surge you feel when magic courses through your body..." She trailed off, a knowing twinkle in her eye. She pressed her hands into her lap and locked eyes with Mira, "It's a bit dangerous though, a scary world I mean."

She let out a breath and sipped at her drink, glancing down at the floor for a moment as Mira continued to speak. "You'd like to draw more people in? Not everyone is looking for an adventurous escape though." She said, raising a finger. "You'd have to convince them that the game you're referring to is more than just hacking through bandits in the middle of a forest."

Her lip twitched, referencing the forest near the starting area was the most blatant tell she could give.

A scary world, Attia said.

"No more dangerous than the world we live in now. After all, it was the works of man that brought about the downfall of Eden." The statement was very nearly a joke by Mira's standards. Eden, the paradise. Eden, the cult. Both gone, forever out of her reach. Until Terrasphere.

A game that, by now, Mira was certain this woman knew of. Other games had magic and danger. But none could truly make you feel it.

"I think in their hearts, people know the truth," she said. Her hands were folded back in her lap, her tone back to the practiced meter of a speech. "They yearn for something more. Something that this world cannot offer."

She tilted her head, and her smile was sharp. People had many impressions of the demure young woman that was Mira. But perhaps even Attia wouldn't have suspected the steel concealed beneath the surface. "They simply need know that such options exist."

Spoken like someone who's been through it as well as someone who's heard the rhetoric over and over. She controlled her expression as she reached for her drink, taking a sip and glancing over the rim at Mira. Mira had been coy about it as well, but they both knew what the topic was about.

"It's not like everyone in the world has access to the same information. It also requires a bit of convincing and a safe place to experience these things."

Proselytize and gather people, then provide a place where they can log in without fear of law enforcement. There were a lot of variables of course, but those could be met on occasion. Bolstering the population of Terrasphere was something that Attia wanted, and getting more people joining 'because' of her, would be even better.

"Just have to spread the word somehow," She said, her lip finally twitching into a wry and direct smile. She locked eyes with Mira. They were both thinking the same thing under the surface, weren't they?

Mira was quiet for a moment.

Terrasphere was wonderful. She couldn't imagine her life without it, now, and she honestly believed it would be good for others to play it. But there was something about the idea of spreading it to others that felt... off. A lifetime of education, of some people cannot be saved and no one can understand our mission, cried out in the back of her mind.

She pushed her hair back behind her ears, removing the one shield against Attia and herself. She looked up at her, briefly making eye contact before her gaze flickered towards the doorway, and then up to the security cameras installed near the ceiling.

"...such a thing would require great care," she eventually said. "And you must ensure the people around you are trustworthy."

The Eden she grew up in, the family she once had, had fallen because of betrayal. The 'lost', as the Father had once called them. Those who were seduced by the sin of the outside world. Mira had learned, over time, that she could not blame those people. She knew now that the world beyond the compound was filled with wonders. There was as much good in this place as there was bad.

"...but I'm sure there are ways," she said, smiling.
