Caelia wasn't entirely sure if Kaede was being serious or just teasing her. It was hard for her to read people in real life, let alone in a game. A part of her was wary about this sudden attention, but a larger, more desperate part of her
craved it. She wanted so badly to be
seen, to be someone that others wanted to have around. If Kaede wanted to play this little game and bet a date on her losing, hell, Caelia was half tempted to just throw the entire thing altogether!
She was still going to try, though. She didn't like losing.
Caelia's breath caught slightly in her throat as Kaede suddenly dropped all appearances and became... Well, the only word she could think of to describe it was monstrous. She felt a fear sink into her stomach like a stone, wondering briefly if this veteran she'd only just met would actually hurt her. She suddenly became fixated on that thought. Would Kaede just use her like a plaything? Fear mixed with frustration. Her eyes, two gleaming blue pinpricks with red centers, widened ever so slightly.
She focused on Kaede's words about how dark magic came from a dark part of the person using it. Caelia focused on that fear, that frustration, that
upset that someone might use her
again just because they could and did what she'd always wanted to do in the real world.
She lashed out.
Like a whip, a crackling tendril of dark energy shot out from the Faerin and slammed into the protection that Kaede had wrought around herself. Caelia held it for as long as she could, pushing it to do as much as it could, before it dissipated. When she spoke, her voice trembled ever so slightly, choked with emotion she was trying so bitterly not to show on the outside.

I think I'm starting to get it.
Don't drown in it, Caelia, don't drown in it, she told herself silently. But oh,
oh it felt good to lash out at someone for once in her damn life, to have some semblance of
control over a situation. Of
power. Even though she knew Kaede could beat her easily if the other caster tried, she let herself have this moment of riding high on the magic she was learning to wield.
