CYCLE 5: Sermon

The Sheep was growing more and more frightened at the strange imageries shown before it. Today was a very scary day with many scary things, causing fear to spike. Even the doll had caught fire, melting and burning away into an unknown underside.

Hee hee hee..! You're beginning to irritate me. Why don't you quit while you're ahead? Go back to bed and take a nap, perhaps.

The doll's voice had changed, now a cute and light voice that sounded about as suspicious to the ear as could be. The flames on his person moved in tandem, folding into the lantern that it beheld as if sucked into a vacuum. The damages to his body, as if part of the flame, peeled right off with the fire and fell into the light.

Clink. The lantern closed, now just a little bit brighter. The restored doll floated down beside the young ewe's ear, whispering damnable words.

Listen to My words before all, for I am your savior. The false idols speak blasphemy to you, and only I am path to your salvation. Devote your soul to My name and praise it, for I am the one and only Lord.

The Sheep didn't seem to know who to listen to! Her gaze was enlocked with the rapturous prayer, yet her heart kept traitorously pulling back towards that precious mango that she had chewed about half of already...

Decisions, decisions...

Objective - Make the Sheep Love You!
Players: 109/400 - Subtracting 50 from the Doll's speech, and adding an additional 83 due to mango
Doll: 45/400 - Wicked words cause the sheep to listen to the doll...

Fear Gauge
[ 200/400 ]

If the sheep gets too afraid, it will run away! Scary things make it go up, and calming things make it go down.

Options

Get the Sheep to Like You!

No matter what, you need to make this sheep comfortable around you. Make any Mastery or Expertise roll to get the sheep to warm up to you. Beast Arts, Harmonic Magic and Nature Magic Mastery rolls, as well as Presence Expertise rolls, gain advantage when used for this purpose.

You must describe how you are using your check logically. If the sheep is not convinced by your action, you will subtract from the total progress instead.

Sabotage the Doll's Efforts

This crazy doll is trying to steal your sheep! How dare he?! You're going to make sure that this Doll will never make friends with the sheep. Make any Mastery or Expertise roll to convince the sheep that the Doll does not truly love it as he had once whispered into her ear. Illusion Magic Mastery rolls and Presence Expertise rolls gain advantage when used for this purpose.

You must describe how you are using your check logically. If the sheep is not convinced by your action, you will add to the Doll's total progress instead.

Attack the Doll

You could alternatively seek to destroy the mean doll in question. You may choose to attack the doll using any attack Action. If you do, you will take 20 retaliation damage. Be warned that from the first attack onwards, the doll will become a hostile combatant.

Operation Mango Storm was a resounding success! The sheep were eating the mango, and they seemed to be starting to be more comfortable around the group. Wanderer's antics both confused and annoyed Harper, whose golden feline eyes glared daggers at his attempts to seemingly help the doll. However, given that he was failing so much at that task to the point that it was helping them, she decided to let him be for now.

"Don't stop your enemy when he's making a mistake, I guess..." She would mutter to herself as she watched the pyromaniac truly make an arse of himself for a moment, before turning her attention back to the sheep. The doll was by its ear, and while Harper couldn't tell if it was saying anything she was sure it was at least trying to influence the sheep in some way. And that just wouldn't happen on her watch!

She would once again slowly approach the sheep, before sitting down within earshot of it. "Oi. Think with me for a second there." She'd call towards the sheep, still maintaining the softer-than-usual voice. "Look, all that floating rug did thus now is talk. And I say talk is cheap. Meanwhile, I and my friends are more than willing to prove our intentions with actions. Oh, I know! Here..."

She would take a pair of mangos from her inventory, before taking a hearty bite out of one. Chewing for a moment, she would then gulp it down. With a smile, the tigress would continue. "See? No venom or anything like that. And I have a loooooot more of those for you with me. And you want them, don't you?" She'd talk to the sheep much like one would talk to their pet dog. And she was too invested in the task to realize the animal probably didn't understand a single thing she just said.

Hopefully, it would at least understand her intentions and feel more comfortable around her. Playing around with it and touching it once it trusted her would not only deepen their bond, but it would give her a nice experience to let her mind wander off from the pain and bug bites.

He stared at the doll confused he clearly said to follow the doll right? He said he was the savior, and that the sheep would be led to salvation. This was clearly 101 Cult Tactic. If he didn't know before he knew the doll was mischievous now. "I don't get it Mister Doll, I clearly said to follow you but if I'm lying that creates a contradiction." The flames coming out of his head would come down from the raging roar it was to small flickers.

"I'm not even sure why the doll wants you to stay in this forest. There' are fearsome predators that lurk in the forest!" He said as he swatted the buzzing pest around. "And good lord why do you want to stay in a place with all these bloodsuckers. You say you will bring salvation," He put his hand above his eyes "I don't even see a fence! How will you protect this sheep? You seem like an irresponsible pet owner. What about all the stray wolves that wander the forest! How are you going to protect the sheep then? Last time I checked those things eat sheep. That's definitely not blasphemous that is nature and facts."

At this point of rambling, he knew that there were two different pest in the forest currently. It was the insects and him. "Going into the forest seems more dangerous. You should go to the edge of the forest sheep. There were forest mangoes closer to the outskirts and no trees so you can see if something wants to eat you so you can baaaaaah-ck out." he said as he pointed his trusty stick in the direction towards the outskirts of the forest, that resembled a shepherd guiding his herd.

The only information he could pick up from that sheep was it sure did enjoy the normally tropical fruit as he slobbered over it. He understoof it was delicious as he had one earlier At this point he wasn't sure if the sheep could understand human speech. He never knew a sheep that could. If this was just a regular sheep boy he'd look like an imbecile. Hopefully the talking points would go to someone that did understand it. "If I make a good point Mister Doll we should head outwards no? Only if you want to protect the sheep and have it praise you in all your gloriousness in the open Sun! Or is there some other possible reason we can't go out there?"

CYCLE 6: Blinding Light, Sheep of White

The doll almost decided to consider your proposal with a tilted head. Given the grumble under his voice, he was likely irritated at the admission. @Wanderer sure had a way with words... But Wanderer did not have control over the crows that littered the area, and neither did Nicolas. This man, who had created an image which his conscious mind was not in full control of, naturally the rest would be delegated to the subconscious.

This manifest in very crow-ly manner. In particular, the beak that broke the last straw was the one that landed on the doll's head and did so physically. The little tweed sticking out of the doll 'pulled' right out in an illusory manner one could almost believe.

It was enough to settle one thing-the doll had now endured enough.

Hee... Hee HeE HEE HEE..!
[I've heard just about enough from you little dogs, you little croaking frogs.]
[Unruly beasts such as you need to be punished. You're going to REGRET THIS!!]

9ynPF7E.png

It was clearly seen as the doll screamed-once more speaking in a mockery of the Duuhmeron's voice-that the forest had not lashed out before out of fury. The forest had not lashed out at all, in fact. The limbs that creeped through the flames unfettered were not that of the Scarwoods' nature.

Black thorns pulsed as one in tandem, a putrid heartbeat audible within the grove. It was a heartbeat heard from that very doll from whom teeth and horn and knurled, blackened branch now creeped. Something dark, something terrible-and it was angry as he.

They first reached out to lash out into Hyacinth's flesh, tearing her body apart from the weakest points. They stabbed and teared and with a sickening crack, the limbs popped away and lapped up the crimson corruption that she leaked with eagerness.

Notice

Hyacinth has died. You have 10 minutes to revive Hyacinth...
_Read More_

The limbs tore at the leaves and grass. The thorns shattered and crushed the fragile bark of trees. The whipping lashed shattered the frames of pests in millions, merely because they were alive and had bitten into the vines for blood once. They lashed out at every crow in the grove, splitting them apart like copper-filled magoes. Even as mere illusions, they popped with a sickening squelch.

Whoever the controller was, wherever he was, the next choice for him was to flee from this place. It was too dangerous, more frightening in mere moments than the whole day had been.

Notice

Nicolas has left the party.

A blink's time had halved the human life in sight, just like that. What was once a day-long friend was now frightened meat. Their sheep would already be bolting from the horrifying sights and sounds and smells were it not for the dark brambles that now formed a terrible ring around the grove.

Fear Gauge
[ 400/400 ]

Now they came for you. Now they would tear you apart, piece by piece, just as they had the poor elf...

The limbs could not so much as reach Harper.

Notice

The Trinket's blessing has been activated.

A brilliant shield protected the two from harm, the rebounding impact sending Wanderer onto his arse. He watched as Harper stood above him, arms out for protection (of herself, but he didn't need to know that), the verdant hue of light between herself and the grasping nettles. On her side was a glowing totem that was caught in her clothes. When had it gotten there? Perhaps it had latched onto her when she had run through the forest.

Harper opened her eyes to see the very same thing, along with the above notice on her UI. The two and one sheep were safe for a moment's time. But as soon as they left the bubble-which surely would not last forever-they would surely die. What could they do to escape? Would one of them need to die to distract the mad doll?

Perhaps, but it would not be them.

207aa8e0da35348e71984c23ac046660.png

A loud, almost-human cry could be heard from above. Something flew in from above, framed by the fading and smothered sun, a great monster cloaked in dark feathers as if to avenge the fallen illusory birds. He was not here for that, of course-he was surely here to protect you, for he flew straight into combat with the indignant doll, who shrieked in fury at the moment of collision between feather and thorn.

It was distraction enough. The thorns paused in their advance to break your shield. If there was any time to run, it was now.

But would you run?

Who will you save?

YOURSELF

Flee! Spare yourselves! Too many people have died already in what seems to be a gruesome way--It was time to go while you still had to chance. You may leave with your life intact, but you will leave behind the Duuhmeron and endanger the sheep in doing so.

THE SHEEP

This sheep was the whole reason why you came here--you were not about to let it die now. Protect the sheep and get it out of the dangerous grove. Doing so will leave behind the Duuhmeron against this foe and endanger yourselves for putting the sheep first in importance before the two of yourselves. Roll a Mastery or Expertise check to clear the way for the sheep.

CHILD OF DUUHM

You don't believe that the Duuhmeron will survive this encounter, no matter how big and strong he may be. It would be cruel to leave him here to fend for himself. You won't let this happen. To perform this, simply do not leave and instead use any action on your tracker sheet available to you, whether for yourself or the Duuhmeron or against the doll. Doing so may put the sheep in danger if you do not take measure to protect it. Consider yourselves to be within the same Hex as everyone else for all range-related purposes.

It all seemed to happen in a flash.

At one moment, Harper was watching in slight confusion as Wanderer had now seemingly started to interrogate the doll about its intentions and question its goals. It helped them for sure, but it didn't help in letting Harper get the slightest grip on what sort of person Wanderer was. In any case, things seemed to be going well, and the sheep was getting more and more comfortable around them. All was going so well...

It was like a flash. She didn't quite perceive what triggered it, but the doll suddenly went berserk. And with that, a maelstrom of thorns and vines started to ravage anything in its path. And unfortunately, Hyacinth was the first victim. The tigress had barely any time to compute the fact that a friend had just been hacked apart in front of her, nor the fact that Nicolas had just hauled ass. After all, she was next.

Her reaction time was barely good enough for her to put up a guard, the beastkin closing her eyes as she braced for impact. But there was... Nothing. She would slowly open her eyes to a green forcefield in front of her and a glowing talisman hanging from one of the branches sticking out of her body from when she rushed through the beaten path. But the when's or how's didn't matter in the slightest right now. Nicolas's cowardice didn't matter right now. Wanderer's allegiance didn't matter right now.

Harper was livid. Livid that Hyacinth had been butchered on her watch, that she would've potentially met the same grizzly, unbecoming fate had it not been by some contrivance of fate, and most of all...

That the culprit of all of this was currently in battle, And.She.Wasn't. Harper would let out a low growl, her canines creeping out of her mouth as her face twisted with strong emotions. Anger, sadness, confusion... All would contribute to forming a gaze of a teary-eyed, yet threatening beastkin. She was ready to just rush in and tear that doll apart regardless of her own or others' safety, but hearing frightened baas behind her broke her out of it.

Taking a deep breath to regain some small amount of mental clarity in her current state, she would turn to the cowering sheep behind her. Her distressed face would slowly melt down to a more mellow one, Harper knowing that the sheep of all things had the least guilt in all of this. Doing her best to break out a smile in this horrible situation, she would snag the talisman out from the branch and settle it on the ground in front of it.

"Everything is going to be alright, little guy. I'll make sure that thing won't hurt you. Nothing will." A glance would be shot at Hyacinth's corpse, the tigress closing her eyes for a moment.

"Be sure of it. Because I am. And you can trust me." Her eyes now open with renewed determination, Harper would stand up as she now shot her now stern gaze at Wanderer, putting one of her hands on her waist. "I still am not quite sure if I trust you or not. But I'm afraid I don't have the time to figure that out either. If you want to help, I'd be quite thankful if you had my back. If not..." Her claws would come out, the tigress presenting her intent in no uncertain terms.

"Enough people have died today. You'll be free to bolt it once I'm done tearing that thing apart, as long as you stay out of my way. I won't give chase." Harper would crack her neck, the few pests remaining not even registering in her mind now. All of her anger and frustration were directed at one single thing. And it was currently in a battle with the Duumhchild. She would not wait for Wanderer to answer, juking the thorns just outside the shield as she dashed past them.

"OUT OF MY WAY!" She'd roar towards the Duuhmchild, going past him and wasting no time once she was face to face with the doll. Grabbing its head with one of her hands, she would flip over him while still keeping the grip, before using both the momentum as well as her legs, hips, torso, shoulders, arms and any other muscle or body part she could use to help absolutely flatten the doll's head between the soil below and her palm.

Once finished, she'd shoot a glance at both the Duuhmchild and Wanderer. "Either one of you, CATCH!" Lifting the doll from the ground, she would release her grip before soccer kicking the mid-air doll upwards as high as she could, hoping that one of them would follow up on her offense.

The events that had led Wanderer on his arse happened so fast. Two of the party members had disappeared and he had survived. He was speechless. No fear as area grew darker and dimmer, only awe as his jaw dropped. Not even noticing that the sheep had fled in fear. His eyes were fixated on the beast as the trinket activated to protect the remaining survivors.

Smoke began to billow from his mouth. He grasped at the grass below his palms as the doll. It looked like he was praying or begging for forgiveness if it was not for the smoke just coming out of his mouth. He grinned as his party member attempted to comfort the defenseless sheep. The grass had charred around. Wanderer as his body was ignited with flames once more, this time crackling louder before it. He yelled out hysterically as his arms shook in anger.

"Fake. Savior. FALSE. GOD."

The doll was right by calling him a beast. It seemed like he struck a nerve in the normally calm Wanderer as his short-term party members were attacked.

The Duuhmchild shrieked as it intervened as it attempted to protect the remaining survivors. Harper would lead the charge as the physical assault on the doll began. He was impressed by the besatkin's natural agility as the assault happened so quickly. Speed however was not the Wanderer's forte as he advanced and lagged behind the beastkin.

The doll was then set into motion as it was flung towards Wanderer as he heard "Either one of you, Catch!"

His feet would stop as he planted his lower body into a more stable stance The heat would intensify as it approached 'Can't catch with a closed fist he thought.' As his knuckles connected. The flames felt so much more satisfying as it truly warmed his soul. He felt a euphoria like no other as he threw the next punch and next punch and next punch at the doll more recklessly to 'chase the dragon.'

Cycle 7: Rejiciunt Salvatorem

Harper's hammer utterly shattered the doll on the first swing. Cloth and tweed went everywhere, while his little lantern went flying off to god-knows-where. Little brambles fell out of the bottom opening, and the creature went limp.

That's all it had taken... Up until more vines had possessed the doll with life once more. It took only a few tendrils creeping into the doll as if wriggling leeches to bring unholy life back to its' cloth frame. It rears upwards towards the surprised group, ready to lash out once again...

Yet a fist coated in flame punches the living daylife out of it once again, and so it fell down and became a simple rag once again.

This was the beginning of a long and gratifying spree of violent revenge against the little vengeant doll. It would die, come back and roar indignantly, only to immediately die once again and repeat the cycle anew. It would have been comical had it not murdered one of your companions.
pw84ilb.jpg

Brambles caught alight over time as they sat in place with each death, too stunned to move. The fire spread, and ash fell as the soul of the doll fell away into pieces beneath the relentless beating of the gang of three.

An ear-piercing scream announced the time in which he'd had enough. Leaving the cloth to rest eternally, the thorned landscape receded and fell away. It was retreating-slithering with wicked speed away. It could be understood that they fled through an archway of bent trees, falling through a gateway of some sorts to wherever lie beyond it.

You have won. You lived, the child of Duuhm had lived and the sheep was alive, too.

Time passed as fire settled down. Your clearing was now a wide, open field that greyed under the countless flakes of falling ash. Wherever the sight of your two companions were, they weren't around anymore-Perhaps Hyacnith's body had been buried in the fire, or perhaps she had just already chosen to respawn.

The Duuhmeron said nothing. Its' eyes stared at you, yet he remained silent. It was likely that the doll, for whatever reason, had been his translator to speak with you. Whether he knew that or not was unclear. The sheep had yet to run away, for it did not know where to flee. Away from the creatures that had driven off the thorned death? It was not yet time. The little ewe acknowledged your efforts to save her life.

The dark figure held this sheep in his arms. It had protested at first, but you were able to calm it down once more. The spotlight red of his eyes had closed, and he did nothing but hold onto the soft wool as if it were his mother long lost. A single tear spread down his monstrous face, the crack of a barely open eyelid tinting the sorrow as a red trail down his cheek.

He was happy. You knew this not from his words, but from the bottom of your heart. Perhaps that was reward enough. Even still, he had something to give to you-aged trinkets of great value to his people, blessings of his appreciation and other little things. He gave these to you quickly, for his gaze was set upon the forested gateway through which the darkness had escaped.

He flew off. It was time for him to go-something needed a hunting, something more important than the upcoming battle with the crows. He would see through it with fervor as only the Duuhmeron could hold.
And as for you? Who could say what you would do next? You were alive and well, the whole world before you.

You have cleared the event! Congratulations!

You are free to post if you are inspired to do so. You may consider this to be a private thread between the two of you until you are done with it.

You may choose one of the following options. Due to two missing members, you may each choose a second option. Note that these items are primarily for DM content only-check with the owner of the thread if they are okay with your use of these items.

An item may only be taken once. If there is conflict, roll opposing d100s where I can see them, tagging the roll with # Greed | Itemname

2★ Consumable: Refreshing Mango
It's so good, it could keep you away from the whispering thoughts of the Devil himself! You may use this consumable one time (as a bonus action) on yourself or another character to heal 30 HP. For the rest of the thread, whoever ate the Mango gains a +10 bonus to Presence Expertise checks as your breath adopts a pleasant citrus scent.

Code:

2★ Trinket (Bracelet): Bracelet of Thorns
Vindictive hearts seek, more than anything else, a reason to fuel their hate and justify their cruelty. This ring of brambles will fit neatly around your wrist and never let go until you forcefully pry the thing off like a giant burr. When you take an instance of damage, you may choose to increase the damage taken by 5. If you do, the next damage roll you make against the attacker will add an additional +5 damage, applied before modifiers.

Code:

3★ Trinket (Misc): Gentle Duuhmfeather
The feather of a gentle soul who hid away inside of a warrior's shell. To a Duuhmeron, even the single feather of a Great Crow is a sacred thing. As if granted might by a divine source, this single feather brings strength to your legs. Once per thread, you may activate the Gentle Duuhmfeather (as a bonus action) to increase your movement speed allowance by 1 during the cycle in which you activate it.

Code:

3★ Trinket (Misc): Guardian Tiki
This totem, found in the trees by Harper, still yet has dormant power lying within itself. Once per thread, you may use this totem (As a Special Action) to grant yourself and one ally in the same Hex as you the Protect status for this cycle. This Protect status will not affect a character who is currently in the Vulnerable state.

Code:

3★ Trinket (Misc): Discarded Puppet
The bleak rag that was once a monster that had torn your friend limb from limb. More accurately, it had likely been naught but the mouthpiece of the wicked brambles that had tried to do the same to you. The possessor of this rag gains a +5 bonus to Presence Expertise rolls, heart steeled by a furious memory from your past.

Pant Pant...

The beastkin fell to the ground as the thorns retreated, seemingly giving up on their battle. They had... Won? After what seemed like an endless cycle of death and rebirth from the doll, it had finally ceased to be a threat, the beastkin being able to draw a long, relaxed breath after what seemed like an eternity of fighting. A thought about the fact that whatever they had just faced was still on the loose, as they had merely defeated its host did cross her mind but she decided to pay it no heed for now. After all...

They had won. THEY HAD WON!

With a tired smile on her face, she would let her body fall flat on the ground as she caught her breath. It had been a long day, and she could finally just lay down and give herself a moment to relax. No pests, no dolls, no thorns... Just a somewhat scorched yet still all so comfortable soil. After this moment for herself, she'd get up and be faced with the heartwarming scene of the hug between the sheep and Duuhmchild.

Said feeling did not go away as the creature presented their rewards, Harper being drawn to the talisman that saved her rear a few minutes ago initially, but the choice of her 2nd prize was a bit harder. Eventually, she'd settle upon the feather, figuring that if anything it would look better as an accessory than a thorn bracelet. And why would she carry that cursed rag that had caused them so much trouble?

Turning towards Wanderer, having overcome her lack of trust towards him over the course of their prolonged beatdown towards the doll even if she still found him a rather odd fellow. Putting the feather and the talisman on her inventory, she'd speak to him. "Say... Given we are seemingly done here, and we don't have a body to bury..." She'd cast a quick glance at Hyacinth's old resting place, wondering what exactly happened to the elf's body. "What do you plan on going from here? I was thinking about crashing down at the tavern back in the town before logging out for the day. About all of my body is sore, haha..." She'd laugh to hide her whining as she pulled one of the branches off her arm. Ow.

Hah Hah...

"False. prophet."
he growled at the doll rag. It was clear the prescence in the doll was no longer there..

It seemed they were done with the battle as the adrenaline wore off. He would feel the aches and pains of barreling through the large thickets. The flames from his alters would dissapate into nothing. He dropped to his knees and his hand would slam down into the braclet of thorns.

"Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaah" he howled. The sounds were not clear if they were cries of victory or pain.

"I'm so glad it's over." The scene above was worth the trouble as the two reunited as he gazed as the Duuhmchild found it's sheep. He grabbed the discarded puppet rag to pat his eyes of the tears. "It's so beautiful." He would than place the discarded puppet rag into a pocket for later use.

He looked back at the beastkin. "I got nohin' but time, everywhere to go and nowhere to be." he stated as the sunlight pierced through the forest canopy. " Honestly. I was thinking about searching for more delicious forest mangos and collecting them." His fist would light up with flames as it raised "I would than go razing the forest so the prices can be raised due to artificial low supply of some idiot who burned them down If you have any other ideas however. I'm down." His tone did sounded like he was joking, but for some odd reason the flames seemed more intense than when he attacked the doll.

Harper would be slightly startled by the sudden howl from Wanderer, but she understood it well enough. They had been through a lot today and have seen many things most people shouldn't have to see or experience. It would be mentally tiring for anyone, really. So any form of releasing all of those feelings was valid. With a smirk, she'd follow the pyromaniac with her own roar, the tigress letting out an animalistic howl as she faced the sky.

Seemingly pleased with her vocal cords' performance just now, the beastkin would turn and listen to the man beside her as he went into detail on his supposed plans. Harper's face visibly twisted in confusion, her head tilting as he went on. Even after all that's happened, Harper couldn't really say she had gotten any closer or farther from him.

Was he trustworthy? Was he sketchy? Harper didn't feel like she could answer these questions, even after all of this was over. But he did help her, no matter his reasons for doing so. And Harper at least could appreciate him having her back. Shrugging her shoulders, she'd put her arms behind her head as she responded.

"Well, can't say I'm one much for the economical aspect of things, so I won't be much help to you there. Though I can't say I approve of more non-sensical destruction of the forest." She'd say, looking at the rescued sheep. It had probably lost the area of the forest it used to call home and would need to spend gods know how much time getting used to whatever new surroundings it found itself in. The beastkin would rather not have that happen to any other animals if she could.

"You are free to go and do it, however. Just as I'm free to bash your face into the ground for attempting it. So I say, just get your mangoes and don't be a douche about it, okay?" Harper's confusion about Wanderer's true nature made it so that even if it what he said sounded like a joke, she couldn't help but feel like she should take it seriously. If she was wrong, then no harm was done. Better safe than sorry, after all.
