[I... Duuhmchild... Firstborn... Proud.]

[But... I am... weak.]

Help was not to pass this poor monster up. You, a ragtag band of Starcalled, bound together from a night of drinking at a bar, decided that you would explore the roads of Brisshal to find the first quest you could pick up. You came across a Duuhmeron, strangely speaking mangled words you could barely understand in your drunken stupor.

[I STAKE MY GLORY ON THIS REQUEST. I WILL DIE AT ANY TIME.]

[HELP ME.]

sm_a5faea9efedb-mothman.jpg

You decided to undertake the quest to help this man. According to his account, he wished for your help to find a sheep in the Scarwoods that ran away. He wishes for you to bring the sheep back alive, for all he wishes is to hug its' soft wool like the smallfolk farmers are able to do with their livestock. He had always heard from his mother how soft they were, and he wanted to feel it himself before embarking on what would likely be the final hunt that he would ever mak
jxxWcRR.jpg
e in his life.

Alcohol-bleeding hearts moved, you began the journey into the Scarwoods, a common forest in Eastern Brisshal that everyone remembers when thinking about their first experience as a Terrasphere gamer. Who didn't sneak into the woods at night to find dangerous critters and strange wooden effigies? Cowards without liquid courage, that's who.

The strange part of your night began when you came across a little sprite who offered to help you in your journey. A lantern hung from his little cloth body, and a cute little light shone from inside of his person and lantern both. It was a little bright to look at, despite the light being so small.

Wha~t's wrong, lost fellows? Could it be, could it be~? You're looking for something that's lost, I see! Hee, hee, hee!

No need to be wary-I want to help, you see! That poor child seeks a sheep to keep. I~know where it we~nt! Follow me, just through these trees! Soon I forsee your glee! Hee, hee hee..!

As a whole, the gut feeling of the party was unanimous-This guy was blatantly suspicious. Who talked to people like that without so much as a name? Even still, could you really refuse his offer just because he spoke like a creep? You'd thought the Duuhmeron was monstrous, and yet you remain out here to aid him achieve a childish dream. Who's to say that this little guy wasn't really here to help?
YcRk7ZC.jpg

Thinking this in your hazed minds, you follow. Tree after tree you pass through, as if through oaken tunnelways beneath a secret route. You have naught but the light of the faerie's lantern to guide you, and guide you he shall to a beautiful archway of bent trees intertwined. Light was beyond it-what was within? It could not be seen past the lantern's light.

You step through the doorway and find darkness. When you awaken, it is to three: The pounding of your hangover, the eerie silence of a barren home and a sight far darker and mistier than the forest you were in.

This was not the Scarwoods.

eeYqU5b.jpg

"I found your sheep, Starcalled..."

Tiny giggling could be heard in the distance, yet not a light was to be seen in the mist-save for a pale blue glow that lie far off in the horizon. You were now alone, lost in a place that your HUD's investigative mode identified as [The Bonewood]. For some reason currently beyond you, it refuses to give hints as to where The Bonewood actually is. Surely you couldn't have been taken that far, though. It logically made sense that you had be somewhere within the borders of Falderen.

The laughter grew closer. The limbs of trees closed off behind you, a wall against retreat. A lantern's light could be seen again within the mist. There was no more time to think-now you had to act. Thinking quickly, you hid behind a nearby stoneface. A quick peek past the side revealed that which beheld that dreaded lantern...

Q1Y8x6E.jpg

It was a sheep.

The sheep that stood in the clearing appeared to be minding its' own business, unaware of the fact that you were here. it appeared to be holding the faerie's lantern, and it sometimes gently shook the thing around to play the sound of softly rattling chains.

The UI labeled this wandering livestock with the name...
[Delilah, Lost Sheep]

This was incredibly suspicious.

CYCLE 1: BAA, BAA!

No longer drunk, you find this whole situation to be incredibly suspicious. You know full well from childhood reading and movies that farm animals are dangerous. Not wanting to be one to fall for the same kind of trick that Arthur's band of knights had fallen for a rabbit, you gather around to devise a plans to deal with the current situation. Speak quietly, lest the sheep hear you...

Guidelines:

  • All characters are permitted one post this cycle.
  • There is no set posting order.
  • There is no posting wordcount limit.
  • This thread will be updated roughly once every 24 hours.
  • This thread is primarily focused on progression of the objective. Additional communication may be done in our communications thread. Talking is a Free Action. Just don't be too loud in character, or the thread may react...

Cycle 1 Mechanics

  • Thread Code: 12346B
  • All rolls must be made in the #rolls channel.
  • Pick one of the two tasks below to try and solve.
  • Be sure to add your progress to the total progress below.

Ambush

You may choose to get the drop on Delilah. Should you do so, you may use any combat action, normal, special or otherwise. ANY combat action will likely alert Delilah to your presence. If this happens, Grid Combat will begin. You must move adjacent to Delilah before using any attack action against her unless your range is increased by an Alter mastery. If you have the SPEED passive, you are allowed to continue moving after your attack during this ambush only.

Delilah, Lost Sheep

Damage Progress: 000/???

Abilities:
Haze: All data above this status, if any (with a minimum of their HP value), is hidden until Delilah enters combat.

Slow: Delilah only has a base movement of 1.

Armor of Wool: Delilah will not take damage from physical attacks which do not have precise power behind them. When attacking Delilah, A d100 will fail on a natural roll of 30 or below and a d20 will fail and not be added to the total on a 6 or below. This ability does not defend against Magical masteries.

Sneak Past

As if you would deal with a farm animal! You know very well how scary they can be after watching Monthy Python and Animal Farm! You're going to do the smart thing and sneak away from this suspicious ewe. That pale light in the distance is clearly your way out, and you don't need to deal with anything on the way there if you're careful enough.

Progress: 000/400

Sneak

Attempt to sneak past with quiet footsteps. Make a Knack or Awareness Expertise roll to sneak by the ominous ewe with your friends in tow.
Characters with SHADOW ARTS or HYPER SENSE masteries have advantage on a roll to Sneak.

Distract

Attempt to create a distraction that will draw the sheep's attention away from everyone, giving you time enough to pass by. Make a Knowledge or Presence Expertise roll to create a distracting scene that does not involve you. You don't want to be caught alone, after all...

Characters with ILLUSION or SUMMON masteries have advantage on a roll to Distract.

His signature was a cross between a halberd and a two-handed battle ax. Thanks to this crush art he is able to wield a one-handed weapon. A kite shield big enough to cover herculean's entire person, The full plate armor had spiked shoulder and knee caps. Between the gaps of the full plate, the armor was soft red silk mixed in the chain mail. His investigation mode wasn't giving any useful information but he kept his awareness up. Put the ax and back with the kite shield over it to figure something out. Kneeling down as he gathers some dirt in his hand letting it slip thru his fingers. He was still a very much inexperienced adventurer so he just kept his head on a swivel and eyes open. Being the tank he would be the front and keep the pace going forward for the group. Stopping for the moment to kinda read the room group so far sense the journey started off strange and was going only get weirder. Spoke in a hushed tone to every leaning to make sure nothing heard them. Squatting down and used a stick to draw paths that he could see in the dirt making sure everyone could see them clearly.

Ok...so...there was the sheep they were looking. But...why exactly weren't they going for it? Yu peered at the others in the part with skeptical look. At least he and Toko seemed to be on the same page. Their objective was right in front of them, but the other two seemed more inclined to play things quietly and not blunder a possible trap.

Ok...a little too cautious for Yu's tastes, but he'd go with it, he supposed.

"Ok fine, why don't we look around first, see what there is to see, make sure it's not a trap, and then come back for Fluffy McFluffykins," the man affirmed with the others.

Slowly moving off to the right, Yu began to creep around the fluffy sheep, crouching low to the ground and careful to keep his steps light, and to not unwarily step on some fallen branch and give away his position.

All the while, the man's eyes darted back and forth. From the sheep, to the treeline ahead, then his right. On occasion, he'd pause and cast a glance backwards, just to ensure something wasn't creeping up on his exposed back, and to confirm that anyone that chose to follow him was still with him, and not silently eliminated like some creepy ass horror movie. So far, so good.

The Lepus rolled her eyes, a faint frown on her face, but true to her word she followed the established plan by her current companions. Was the sheep sussy? Very much so, yes. Did she still wanna grapple it? Of course, after all Toko wanted to see how fluffy could it truly be... especially since that creepy as all sin Duuhmchild seemed so interested on sheeps too.

"Fine, I suppose we could do that for the time being..."

Was she happy about the decision? Not fully, no, but the Lepus wasn't dumb enough to go off on her own in a completely unknown place. Eager as she might be to experience new things in The World the one thing not high on Toko's priority list was actually dying.

She followed closely behind @Yugam, his face somewhat familiar although the rabbitfolk currently hadn't beena ble to pinpoint where she'd seen him before. Like her he too had been more interested int he sheep than sneaking about, and perhaps this caused the Lepus to feel a small kinship with the human in turn.

"So far everything sounds like a normal forest..."

Long ears remained high and alert, swiveling to catch even the smallest of sounds as they slowly made their way towards whatever had caught the attention of most members in the group.

Unaffiliated

It put her worries at ease to know the group wouldn't just haphazardly begin to combat the sheep. They knew not of their prey's capabilities, nor the terrain they played hunters at, and even still they her head buzzed with the beverage that so convinced her to take a daring adventure out with all of them.

If a Duuhmchild wishes for this sheep, and this sheep in particular, then there had to be more in play than mere farm animals...

"Miss, this can by all means be hostile territory, and the looks are not as welcoming as they were earlier. Let us focus on our surroundings least we get an ugly surprise." She directed her whispers to @Toko, encouraging rather than chastizing if her tone is to be believed.

And while the group begun to make their way with supreme silence, Shane opened her tome and twirled two fingers to physically extract the runes upon it's pages, tapping the ground as a little flame-like wave beugn to emanate the opposite direction, the little showcase tame and alluring enough to try and position the sheep so it would be facing away from the group, her harmless trick fooled sound and eyes alike, as it was no more than a fancy show, all bark no bite-like.

"Keep an eye out you all."

As if she could...

The tiny Faerin nods acknowledgement of @Shane's warning and fae does faer best to follow after the path marked out by the hulking beastfolk leading their ragtag party... but fae keeps getting distracted by admiring and studying the scenery than paying close attention to faer steps. Fae certainly proceed quietly, respecting the hushed, eerie nature of The Bonewoods.

"Fluffy McFluffykins is a good name, I like that," Sepulchre grins, giving another glance toward the sheep and making sure fae hasn't strayed too close toward it. Faer eyes study the lantern, trying to commit it to memory. "It really is a fluffy floofball..."

First the encounter with the Duuhmchild, then one with a will o' wisp! Sepulchre can't resist grinning wider, keeping an eye out for grainy or clipping areas as fae travel. Fae had wanted to explore this world's secrets, and it was delivering opportunities aplenty for that today. Now if only fae can convince this party of the same...

CYCLE 2: SIN

To the regret of some, to the relief of others, it was the unanimous decision to quietly sneak past the sheep. They didn't want to deal with it right now. Who would wish to deal with a lone ewe in a situation like this, let alone one suspiciously set in a forest of pale deciduous trees and bonemeal? The sound of cracking-unclear as to what-filled the air at all times, bringing rise to nerves and suspicion. It was time to leave.

"Why..? Why are you leaving me?"

There was just one problem with that plan... someone didn't want the five to be gone so soon. A sweet, sorrowful voice without origin could be heard in the air. Where did that come from? Parhaps between the cracks of branches between the trees? From the soil?

Maybe it was coming from the sheep that you had turned your backs upon.

"You promised me..! You promised that we would stay together..."

That cracking noise, on the other hand, was loud and clearly emanating from behind you, a harrowing noise from the clearing that emanated from the sheep whose frame grew larger and longer, ganglier and sharper and monstrous in every moment that your footsteps slowed. That cracking noise-it was the sound of bone shifting, of muscle popping as one shape took another.

You hesitate for but a moment. It was a moment too late.
Chains burst forth from your chest. They glow with a cool blue light, and shone with a beautiful sheen not unlike glass. They interlock with other links that had sprouted from your friends, forming a five-man bond. All of those chains wrapped around limb and throat and cuff, gently pulling each of you towards that sight you did not want to see-the lost lamb behind your gaze...

"DON'T LEAVE ME!"

Delilah, Lamb of Lost Sacrifice
2500 / 2500

6d2PsiJ.png

Abilities

CURSE - As a host of dark forces, Delilah is capable of inflicting CURSE. This stacking status effect does nothing on its own, but is a vector for other abilities to spread.

GRUDGE - A palpable aura of murk surrounds the monster, only illuminated by the lantern on its' neck. Those who are adjacent to Delilah when a Cycle begins gain one stack of CURSE.

CHAIN - Spectral chains link you all together. One may only go so far before they pull taut. If a round ends and you are more than 2 spaces away from any character, calculate your extra distance beyond 2. When you do, you are flung towards Delilah in a straight line for double the amount of distance.
If this causes a character to no longer be within 2 spaces of any other character, a chain reaction occurs.

SLOW - Delilah only has a base movement speed of 1.

ARMOR OF WOOL - Delilah will not take damage from physical attacks which do not have precise power behind them. When attacking Delilah, A d100 will fail on a natural roll of 30 or below and a d20 will fail and not be added to the total on a 6 or below. This ability does not defend against Magical masteries.

Actions

Cry of Eve - A horrible wailing wracked the grove. @Toko gains 1 stack of CURSE and must make a Will Saving Roll this turn or take 10 damage per stack of CURSE that she currently has applied.

Rear - Delilah is watching @Shane very closely as it begins to paw at the dirt with its' many spindly limbs. At the start of Cycle 3, she will charge straight at you, ignoring her base speed limitations. Perhaps you may be able to get her to run into something that could stop her..?

Not even a moment after Yu had thought to himself that, so far, things were going about as well as could be expected did the sound of a snapping twig echo through the woods behind him. Stopping dead in his tracks, Yu slowly turned around with a slightly unhinged smile on his face, a smile of complete and total dissatisfaction with just happened.

But who knew, maybe Fluffy McFluffykins didn't hear that?

Oh, who am I kidding, that demonic fucking screeching told them all that they needed to know.

Almost immediately, black vine-like tattoos began to crawl across the Lepus' skin, dark marks that gave off a definite sense of foreboding. "Oh, that's not good..." Yu muttered before the Lepus stoop out and let out a battle cry...taunt? She shouted at the fucking sheep before she charged it.

Had their cover not already been broken, Yu would've probably been pissed that the woman charged on ahead with only the smallest of warnings, but given the situation, it was probably the best course of action.

"You guys are gonna need to trust me with this," Yu said, as he began to roll up his right sleeve to the elbow. A bandaged arm, the crisp clean linen, stark white, contrasted sharply with the dark garb the man wore. It wasn't until he began to unwrap the bandages that one could really understand why it was necessary. Strange cracks in his flesh ran through his fingers, over his hand and half way up his forearm, . The flesh itself was angry and red, only kept from letting blood by the fact that the man's magic prevented it. "This is gonna hurt..."

Yu clutched his ravaged arm, at the wrist and held it out before him, palm down. Blood suddenly began to flow freely as the man released whatever magic had kept his bodily fluid inside him where it belonged. Wincing slightly, the man kept his eyes fixed on their foe, and on their ally already halfway across the field.

Having given up enough of himself, Yu willed the scarlet blood to rush through the dirt, flowing faster than the Lepus could run, moving around her, gathering in front of the sheep and then forming terrible lances, each shooting up from the ground towards the monstrous sheep's face, creating a protective barrier between Toko and their foe, one that would force the enemy to impale itself to get to her.

Taunting (taunt)

The Lepus had rolled her eyes in response to the whispers of the silver haired human behind her, though she had managed to bit back any remark. After all, it didn't sounded like @Shane had been trying to scold her... but Toko was still displeased at the time currently being lost as they all tried to shuffle quietly through the undergrowth. In her opinion it would've been better to gang up on the ewe now, while it was completely unaware of their presence, instead of gambling on the possibility that they could sneak by unnoticed—

Snap!

Toko wasn't sure who, or what, had caused the sound, but one thing became evidently clear very quickly as a voice drifted in their direction... this was no simple ewe, the creature suddenly going through a drastic transformation before their very eyes. "Whoaaa—heeh? Nandayo...?" She was suddenly distracted when chains began to burst from Toko's chest, the glowing bandages interlocking with those that had appeared on her companions, while their glass like surface tightened around the Lepus' throat, wrists and ankles.

"Yooosh, ikouyoooh!"

The chains became a past thought as the Lepus focused instead on the gangly creature that now towered before them, Toko seemingly unphased by its grotesque appearance. Her loud cry was enough to attract Delilah's attention, a horrible wailing wracking the grove soon after—but the rabbit fighter remained unshaken as she began her assault, completely unaware of the black vine like patterns that had begun to form on Toko's skin.

The scent of iron had been the first thing to alert Toko of the blood speeding past her, the rabbit angling her steps slightly before watching as the blood shot up into sharp spikes towards the ewe. She jumped as instructed, using the now solid surface as a step of sorts, before Toko landed atop a mass of rocks not too far from her initial point. The chain still seemed to be attached, linking her to the other companions, and a more mentally inclined creature would've pondered about its meaning.

"Alright lil' sheep, let's see what you got...!"

There was a predatory gleam in those red eyes as Toko stared down the creature, having effectively made herself a target by acquiring high ground, before her hands pressed against the stone underneath her feet. Toko allowed herself to amass the energy from the earth, various chunks of rocks and dirt breaking along the blood spikes Yugam had created before they glowed with a faint purple sheen as they were levitated into the air.

"Open wide!!!"

The amethyst earring on her right ear glowed brightly, the focus channeling the cosmic energy that Toko had infused into the various boulders, before they were all sent hurling at Delilah with a gravitational force far greater than it should've been normally possible. As the boulders met their target they would impact with full force, before three of the larger boulders seemed to explode in mid air as they released stone shards to barrage the ewe within striking distance.

Sepulchre winced at the sound of snapping twigs, quickly glancing down to check where fae was stepping. Wait a minute, that sound was coming from behind... fae turned around, eyes going wide as the ghastly voice resounds and the sight of the sheep contorting and morphing into a horrendous creature. Faer heart pounds with fear and excitement, horror at the figure they now face clashing with the thrill of a true challenge.

"Got nothing else to do in a situation like this, do your best!" the tiny Faerin calls back to @Yugam. Fae whistle in appreciation of the lad's spellcasting and his coordination with the lepus.

Fae opens up faer grimoire and strike a pose, crossing faer arms as fae chant a spell. "I invoke you, Wolf of the Devil's Call! Remind this lamb who its master is!" Some of the bones rattle nearby and breath an unearthly sigh, as the blue glowing spirit of a wolf emerges, emitting an unearthly howl and jumping over the boulder nearby its summoner, bounding forward to charge the ewe with a snarl.

CURSE (X)

Herculean would read the battlefield drawing his ax and shield. Looking to see yugam using blood magic which was cool. Drawing blood magic from himself was an interesting sight that made even herculean wince a bit. Suddenly toko would attack taunting the creature in the process, This was clearly the prowess of someone being a seasoned fighter and adventurer. Lift boulders as if it was nothing off the ground her gravity magic. Huge rocks being propelled at such force was inspiring to say the least but the creature looked durable enough. Umbral would cast chant a spell which did decent enough damage and with everyone dealing damage so far he just take a defense position. Walking to position C4 and pulled out a throwing ax from his side. Putting away the shield and gripping the ax with both hands focusing on the creature.

Putting all his power into this throw sending the ax flying at the evil-looking sheep. As soon as it left his hand he quickly swapped to his two-handed axe. He remembers umbral fumbling her spell as he would turn to her with a smile.

"Oi keep your head up We've got your back!"

As he finished talking to umbral he would transform into his heroic form. His armor adjusts to his sudden change in character. Growing seven feet tall growing visibly more muscle and turning into a humanoid version of a saltwater alligator. Newly transformed with really putting effort into it he wielded his shield and ax in each hand. The weapon in his right hand and the shield in his left, keeping his eyes on the creature and breathing in ready to cleave at it more with his party.

Unaffiliated
Targeted by the sheep

Perhaps the worst wasn't the strange flow of energy that amassed that sheep and soon turned into a full fledged monstrosity when they least expect it, but how she could not truly pinpoint what the sheep truly is, as even her vision blessed and cursed by magic could not find a conclusion. It simply existed, an unnerving revelation she should have seen coming from before compared to everyone else. Only she didn't.

"My eyes deceive me, I can't tell apart the magic out of that sheep. Be careful!" She called out, specially to the bunny brawler @Toko who rushed in head first. Too far away for her to do something about it, and the chains across their bodies did nothing but force them all on the move across the panic it caused.

So could she feel the chains rattle and instinct took over mind at that point as she broke into a sprint, fixating her sight upon the energy that made up their bindings and the one creator of them: this lost abomination, who seemingly set it upon itself to target her of all people as it's head never ceased to gaze at her despite the much more threatening presence that was Toko's onslaught and @Yugam 's visceral assistance through hemomancy itself.

"Herc, at your right!" She called out once she set herself to move closer once everyone was set in motion, trying to keep the chain flowing, yet there was no time to put much thought into strategy. She rushed to the side, until her vision of Delilah and Toko became completely obscured. It confused her greatly, until an attempt to move forward had her stumbling against one big set of boulders, hands tapping against it just to get a clear look to the surface.

Right...

She tapped her foot twice, her aura spreading as a singular, invisible wave across the floor, colliding with nature and companions alike to grant her visuals for at best two seconds of everyone and everything.

CYCLE 3: EVE

Tic-a-tic-a-tic-a-tic... The lumbering monster skipped and tangled limbs as she tried to follow sight of Shane's movement. Magical volleys and rainfall of stone did fall upon her woolen frame, and she cried as she was struck each time. She sobbed and wailed, unable to bear the pain that assailed her.

A scream alit the air of the grove. It was Delilah, screaming with all of her might, a terrible wail that pierced the ears and displayed her rage.

Delilah charged. She ran straight into the stone wall that separated Shane and the beast, then she continued to fruitlessly dig her spindly legs into the ground over and over as if she could gain enough traction to move the earth. The great stone groaned under the stress, a warning that she very well could.

Critical Failure
1

Fractions of spiritual magic ran into her hide. There was a screech louder than even her scream. Delilah lit up underneath the shattering wolf, that one who was destroyed as soon as it bit into the wool of the monster. The wolf shattered into countless shards, each of which fragmented into glimmering sparkles that shone like dusted steel without a single source of light.

And also as steel does, it conducted the charge of the soul that had been thrown at Delilah.

CRACK!

A blue light ripped across the Bonewood. The resonant soulform lanced between Delilah and Sepulchure in an instant. A blue smolder was left upon the Faerin's chest, and scorching likewise could be seen on Delilah's fur. One could even see the way that energy coursed from the blackened wool across Delilah's body, the way that pebbles rose around her charged form...

Was the monster going to discharge that?

It was already too late. Her claws were beneath the stone, and her wool was discharging power gathered from terrible friction. A pulse of blue light wracked the canopy as Delilah threw the stone cover straight up into the treetops in a sudden surge of unholy strength.

Now nothing was in the way. She advanced, bringing fang and limb to bear upon you...

Delilah, Lamb of Lost Sacrifice
2038 / 2400

6d2PsiJ.png

Currently, ARMOR OF WOOL has prevented 15 damage from rolls (15 from Herculean,).

WEAKNESS - Delilah is very reactive to Spirit Magic. When attacking Delilah with Spirit Magic, a violent backlash will strike out at both herself and the attacker. This reaction will reduce both Delilah's current and maximum HP.

Actions - This happens in order from top to bottom.
WEAKNESS - @Sepulchre af Umbral created a violent resonance involving the complete obliteration of a poor wolf's soul against the lashing curse of Delilah. Delilah takes 100 damage. Sepulchre gains 2 stacks of CURSE and takes 50 damage as the brunt of the violent backlash strikes out at her. A successful WILL Saving roll (DC 60) will halve the damage taken to 25.

Charge - This attack has failed, stopped cold by a stone wall. Shane takes no damage from Rear.

--Turn Begins--

GRUDGE - @Sepulchre af Umbral , @Toko , @Shane and @Herculean Drakecon each gain 1 stack of CURSE.

Cry of Eve - Her horrible wailing grows. None may ignore it any longer. @Yugam gains 1 stack of CURSE. All characters must make a WILL Saving Roll at the end of their next turn or take 10 damage per stack of CURSE they are currently afflicted by.

Shepherd's Cane - Delilah's reaping limbs lie in wait for those who seek to run. Leaving adjacency from Delilah will cause you to take 20 Retaliation damage.
If a character chooses to Taunt Delilah, Shepherd's Cane will deactivate and others will be free to walk away.

  • There is no posting wordcount limit.
  • All actions are unlocked, including Armor Abilities.
  • This thread will be updated roughly once every 24 hours.

Actions

Run!

You don't know what that thing is, but you don't want to deal with it now! We're getting the heck out of here!
Make a Mastery or Expertise roll to run away, so long as you can justify the use of it in your post. This decision must be made unanimously among the party.
Progress: 000/???

Damocles

Delilah threw the stones into the sky. They have yet to come back down. A glance up will tell you why--They were stuck within the hanging branches of trees.
If you were to leap up and strike them down, you may be able to stop Delilah's rampage here and now...

Make a Fitness Expertise roll (DC 90) or a Geomancy Mastery roll (DC 70) to strike the boulders out of their hanging cradle. On a success, they will fall down right on top of Delilah. They seem to be just about the size to crush her underneath, to boot.

This action might only be available for this cycle. Delilah may unknowingly move out of the way of the boulders if time is given.

Invoke Urukhan

The shattering of your wolf companion, and the resulting discharge thereof, was traumatic and shocking. You have come to understand that whatever Delilah's dark aura entails, it is inherently hateful towards pure souls. Normally, this would swallow the soul whole and blacken it. When you command one to attack, however, a resistance is formed. Reactions are created. You can control them.

The skull you saw in the split second of light told you such. Delilah is an unnatural beast, yet you can fell her. You must destroy her.

Make a Spirit Magic Mastery roll (DC 50) to initiate a violent WEAKNESS reaction-one that heavily favors you in the matter. Success will initiate a reaction as if you had critically struck Delilah with a Spirit Magic attack.

Curse (1)

Cry of Eve mitigated by Will Saving Throw

The skeletal wolf, conjured by Sephulchre charged forth as commanded by it's master, leaping at the nightmarish Fluffy McFluffykins' throat. And for a moment, it looked as if the beast would end the fight before it had even really started. But as soon as those razor fangs touched the beast's taut-drawn flesh, it exploded into thousands of glowing bone shards. Lightning cracked, shooting violent arcs all across the battlefield, striking Sepulchre in the chest, throwing stone, massive boulder and miniscule pebble alike, into the air as if it were nothing.

And then that screeching. That dreadful, godforsaken screeching resumed. Ear shattering, piercing the air. Yu could feel his eardrums threatening to burst as he covered them with his hands, bending forward and wincing in pain. Forcing himself to look, the man drew his eyes to the nightmare before them, stepping towards them with it's menacing, spear like legs.

But behind the massive creature's head, or rather above it, Yu saw their chance. The boulders that had been sent skyward were still hanging in the air, somehow supported by the thick, petrified branches of the Bonewood itself.

Yu's entire arm burst with crimson blood, wrapping around his arm, forming crystalline chains, ending with a hooked, bladed instrument reminiscent of a kama. Fighting through the pain of Fluffy's piercing cries, the man swung the chain-weapon above his head, throwing it at the boulder, manipulating it's path with his magic until it wrapped it's way around the massive rock, cinching itself. With a massive heaving effort, Yu pulled: "Would you just shut UP!"

Taunting (taunt)

His heads-up display asked him if he wanted him to taunt this action. Pressing the button suddenly ax turned blood red. Leaping into the air and brought down ax on the creature as another cast protect on @Sepulchre af Umbral. She would find herself coated in rotating shields around her, The cursed energy that would affect her would also get herculean. Smirking as the dark energy would burn his skin visibly but in his heroic form didn't bother him much. when it would connect sweep across his lamb back cutting into it. Hopefully, it got its attention long enough for squishier teammates to do something. Turning to @Toko as saying his heroic form. Herculean voice is deeper and more growly but tame enough to hopefully get his point across.

"Yo toko how about a little tag team taunting! Focus on dealing as much damage possible I've got this ugly bastard."

He would Position himself so that the sheep back was to the party. Putting his shield with one arm covering the entire person ready for its next attack.

Cry of Eve Mitigated - met Will DC

"Yeah, get that ewe!"

Toko had cheered as the Faerin's spiritual wolf had lunged for Delilah, confident like others that the creature could handle the ewe with ease. It was then a crackling sound, followed by a flash of blue light, resonated through the ears—and when Toko's vision finally cleared she noticed the burning marks on both Delilah and Sepulchre... something about the attack had seemingly backfired unexpectedly. Then came the screeching, the unnatural and guttural scream that was released by the ewe caused Toko to instantly raise her hands towards her ears as she tried to muffle the unwelcomed cacophony while Toko gritted her teeth.

"... Urusai na!"

The Lepus moved to the side, seeking higher ground on the boulders she stood, while complaining loudly about the ewe. From her vantage point she had missed the sight of the many rocks entangled in the sturdy branches of the tree, looming just above Delilah as the ewe stalked closer to the group, but thankfully the Hemomancer further from the party had no such issue. The blood kama certainly caught Toko's attention however, and when the rabbit looked upwards to see the chain entangle with the boulder above Toko couldn't help but grin widely.

"Here, let me give you a hand with that!!!"

The earring on the fighter's right ear glowed brightly, the amethyst gem within assisting as Toko channeled the cosmic energy found around them, before the stones glowed with a faint purple sheen. From above the branches creaked and groaned, the weight they held suddenly multiplied without their consent, before the Lepus brought her hands down in a swift motion that was mirrored by the rocks above as the gravitational pull between them and the ewe was exponentially increased.

"Yo Toko, how about a little tag team taunting!"
"Oh she's getting taunted alright... keep her busy!!!"

The inky like blackened vines that had appeared on Toko's left arm continued to swirl and grow, but their progress was either unnoticed or ignored—the Lepus far more focused on the chaos she and Yugam were about to cause.

CURSE (3)
Cry of Ewe mitigated by Will Saving throw

Sepulchre is only able to get in a grateful smile at @Herculean Drakecon before the crackling boom resounds and glances off the shield of faer reptilian companion, absorbing some of the blow. The Faerin is sent bowling backwards with a shriek as the spirit-formed wolf shatters apart and faer magic hurtles back into faer chest, sending inky black vines mirroring the lepus's exploding outwards to poke out from the collar of Sepulchre's dress and sleeves. The inky vines writhe and wrap around the unaware Faerin's neck, an extension of its creator's malice. "Ungh... ow..." Sepulchre groans, rolling over and trying to reorient faerself, only to shudder and pause to cover faer ears as Fluffy McFluffykins emits its godawful wail.

Sepulchre unsteadily works back up to standing on faer feet as the fight continues, barely registering the words being exchange as fae focuses on recovering from the shock of the recoiled spell, blinking in surprise that for the force of the blow fae really only had a smoldering hole in faer clothes, revealing the gleam of armor underneath. Faer eyes narrow at that realization, and fae stands back up while gritting faer teeth.

"Thanks for the help, mister!" fae nods at the reptilian beastfolk before before narrowing faer eyes onto Fluffy McFluffykins. "This bastard ruined my dress, and its going to PAY! HAH!" Sepulchre flips open faer grimoire and strikes another pose, determined to summon up a bolt of spiritual energy to blast this abomination right back with... but right before fae can finish the spell faer hand wobbles and faer voice cracks, the sheer terror of what they're facing starting to hit home.

Cycle 4: Light at Each End

69s6T3P.png

--CRASH!!--

The stones did sink into the earth, and Delilah was struck down beneath them. Naught but spindly legs could be seen beneath the fallen earth. Even they began to fade in moments' time-as if dragged to hell itself, the thin and tearing limbs slipped downwards beneath the soil-naught to be seen again.

Only a shattered lantern remain where Delilah once stood proud. The light had gone dark, nothing within able to keep the broken glass and bent frame alit.

The monster was dead. Faint light shined down from the shattered canopy, illuminating the quiet scene.

3e128f4db8c021ae4874ee811c4cbf01.jpg

As if to reward your triumph, the grasping limbs of the Bonewood's trees receded from whence they had first formed an oppressive wall of knuckled branches. Beyond it was the sight that you had once seen in a drunken stupor-the archway of trees that had brought you here to begin with, brought forth to this place by the accursed lantern that had enchanted you so.

You have been given the chance-it was time to leave.

Two threads, each red, lead towards each light. You must shatter one to choose which direction to go.

WILL YOU LEAVE?

Leave

You have survived the trap, and it is time to go. This experience has been harrowing, and you need to get out. There is a light, yet lights have only so far invited disaster. Walk through the entryway to the Scarwoods and do not return.

Delve Further

A light in the distance still yet remained. It had shone indifferently upon your struggles against the monster, and still it yet remained. Could there be something further where it lie, or was this a will of the wisps, another light in the distance that led only to doom?
It was time to find out.

This choice must be made unanimously. If a decision is not reached, you will leave the forest. Delving further will increase the difficulty of this challenge to Hard. Your status will remain as-is and will not be updated. You will not have a second chance to leave.

Curse (1)

Through the combined efforts of Yu and Toko, and with Herculean distracting the spindly Fluffy McFluffykins, the massive rock finally broke through the rotten tree canopy above, plummeting to the earth with such force that the ground shook beneath them as it crushed Fluffy beneath it's massive, gravity magic enhanced weight, turning the nightmarish ewe into a bloody red splatter on the ground.

Was...was that it?

Yu then held up a fist towards Toko, giving her a fist bump.

Yeah. They were awesome.

The tree's behind them began to part once more, releasing the fighters from their arena, and offering a choice. Press on, or leave.

Yu turned and looked at the others. "If you want to turn back, now's the time," he said, "but if anyone else wants to find out what other nasty horrors this place has in store for us, I sure as hell would appreciate some company."

He would watch as the stones fell on the lamb crushing it underneath. He knelt down for a moment and prayed for the creature before turning to his party in question. As he spoke his armor and weapon disappeared from his body and he got a notice. He had bought a tag as well sent in armor and staff to be redeemed freely with it. Two things were added to his person called the playful night, A long three-chain-linked staff that had darkness coming off it. The armor itself was black with a distinctive deer-horned helmet. Looking heavy and awkward with large thick horns mounted on top, however, the antlers were made of a lightweight gold. The heavy armor was layered enough to protect him from even the most powerful of blows.

With the path open before them he would try to rally them with his words. @Shane seemed a bit hesitant so maybe she needed them. He would fold the staff to his side and cross his arms with a big toothy smile keeping in his heroic form.

"The path pushes us to move forward but yugam is right no one should be forced to continue. Though it's better if we did because did you see that teamwork back there? We kicked ass plus with the armor upgrade I think I am immune to the darkness. If we are to pursue our factions I think it's good for us to see this quest through to the end. Let us keep our wits about us and our spirits high. We don't leave anyone behind agreed?"

The huge grin only got bigger as he nodded making sure everyone was okay. When everyone game the signal he would be first to walk into the next area. For now, though it seemed they had a moment of respite to themselves.
