Zelrius followed closely behind his travelling companion, waiting and watching. Looking for the tendrils, listening for the voice in the forest. It had come again, telling them they weren't welcome. Trading words with @Aalam Abungu about how to proceed from here, the man had tot hrow in a comment of his own. The way his stomach squeezed and heart began to pick up. "Have to admit, man. Not a fan of the way this is looking."

This building apprehension came to a peak as a boat came from a nearby waterfall, falling down into the river with a splash. The pyromancer nearly jumped out of his own skin, the way his back straightened and feet left the ground. His shoes hit the ground, and his stance widened, wielding his two volcanic blades up now, only for the others to be revealed to have been on the vessel.

There was something here, his blue eyes found it. The outline of the creature, the way its forest green eyes moved unnaturally, focusing on them. A creature, an enemy. Some kind of wolf? Though that much was uncertain. It was hard to tell where the animal started and ended, with the way it blended in so cleanly. If it was green, and organic, it would burn like any other plant or animal, though.

Immediately heeding @Aalam Abungu 's request for flame, Zelrius stuck his hand out toward him. Letting a sphere of fire form there like a match or lighter at the end of a sword, and give the man warmth and light on his weaponry. His blade straightened, and the man charged forward once that was done, getting into direct, hand to hand combat with the beast.

Ronja was impressed that somehow @Rael had managed to calm down the creature, releasing a sigh of relief. For a moment, it would seem like her reinforcement was in vain, but soon the land approached.

With the boat sailing toward a 'land', Ronja frowned noticing the green vulpine and the other two allies. "So there is where the two of you are!" She called at @Zelrius and @Aalam Abungu, hurrying forward and already sending her wire out of her neck to plug in her materialized Skullbuster Rifle.

"Attention, the enemy before us is far from ordinary!" She thrusted the rifle in front of her, already charging it up.

"Valmont, Ronja will cover you... Fiora! Focus on the opposite side Ronja is aiming, maybe you can hit its blind spot this way!" Ronja instructed, with the rifle finally charging up completely.

The rifle shot, releasing a sparkling barrage of energy that surrounded @Valmont, and clashed against the wolf, attempting to stagger it and give room for @Fiora Di Angelo to strike it from the other side.

Let out a whistle as he did some math in his head. This was going to be one of the harder battles, and from what he could tell, the rest of his team had gotten into a bit of trouble if the wounds on them were something to go by. Alright, this was going to be something he needed to do; there weren't that many of them that would be able to get direct damage down on the creature, so they would have to push it. Letting the root system form a path under him as he moved out over the water, the big thing, the dragon, was going to be something they had to deal with, but for the moment, that wasn't the biggest danger no that seemed to be the wolf that had been trying to run them off from earlier. Reaching into his quiver as he moved and he added the odds in his head, he was going to need to make sure his shorts hit their mark each time because each time that he missed, that was another failure and one that brought down the rest of the team. Sliding to a stop on the bridge that his magic had made and reached into his quiver and aimed at the creature even as the tips of his arrows came alit. "Yes, this was a good idea."

Sliding to a stop as he aimed, feeling the flame singe his skin before he launched a series of arrows into the creature that was going to both hurt and burns, and to be honest, that was the goal that he was trying to achieve. "It seems that you lot took the hard way." Sliding back into cover far from the wolf, the good thing about a bow and some arrows is that you have range. "I have a spark on him, working it into a burning rage if you have any aero skills."

"About fucking time you two showed up!" Fiora took a leap out of the boat, eyes switching between the veteran huntsman and the fiery flamebringer, the duo keeping themselves busy with what seemed to be a grass wolf. Time to touch grass, they say.

"Attention, the enemy before us is far from ordinary!"

"It's going down eitherway, let's get the job done." With @Ronja Bubblyfoot taking the role of cover fire for Valmont, all that's left was for her to spin on her heels and look for the right angle, one hand kept busy as the knightess opened her palm menu, practiced motions lead her to the inventory and it's neat organization, each slot carefully planned, and now it's a matter of muscle memory for her. In mere seconds, her full armor pixelated itself into reality around her body, until every little detail came to life, as if she had never taken it off in the first place.

Her right hand spread outwards as she circled the beast, her blade begun to tremble as gravity forced it out of it's sheath and went straight to her grasp, by the time she had reached the monstrosity her blade overcharged itself with magic and a two-handed grip that promised death in a single swipe. Sparkles clashed and staggered the wolf, and her sword descended with full weight, piercing straight into it's side as the knightess swung steel and animal alike around and slammed it against the floor, pinning it down with the full force of gravity itself, and brutal strength.

As the boat drifted nearby, backwards, the aft bumping into the shore Valmont tried to regain his rattled senses from the fall. By some miracle they were still in the boat, still alive, and everyone was together. Only now, with the inclusion of this strange new creature he could barely make out, there were two threats. It was not as funny the second time.

He did a quick assessment, taking stock of his allies and their conditions. Mostly everyone was doing alright. Except for the massive chunk of health missing from Zelrius. Much like Ronja he decided his time was best spent protecting the red-headed man. Turning to depart the boat to join her in getting close to Zelrius he tripped on the broken shaft of his makeshift motor. His graceful step turned into a mad scramble to stay upright. With a splat he wound up on his back in the mud, his expert athleticism showing through. ”Ow.” He wheezed, just in case the feeling came back through the numbness from the chilled water.

Fortunately for him, his power didn’t need a whole lot of movement. One of the octahedron that had left the boat to join him kept floating towards Zelrius in a graceful arc. With a quick flutter of movement it opened its panels and bathed Zelrius in a warm blue invigorating light.

Already had her mood improved at the success attained by her song, which continued to ring out for as long as the snake kept them company, which it seemed intent to do for as long as those upon the boat kept their weapons strapped to their bodies.

They moved further along the waters than she would've expected, or desired, soon brought into view for the two who had chosen to pursue another route at the beginning of their adventure. The elf's eyes strained to piece together the blurry bits of their enemy, a creature that almost blended with the background as it advanced on those much quicker than her to jump into the fray.

In fact, she already could see the wear and tear on some of them, wounds rapidly opening, and her companion, @Valmont, dutifully keeping others healthy. What could she do but follow in his footsteps? Oh, but their new friend...

As the snake moved after Rael's initial set of footsteps, she backed away into it, urging it back with a gesture of her hand and then pointing at her enemy, as if asking it to mind its distance lest it got hurt, too. With her warning delivered, it was much easier to increase the volume of the song which had been following them, the same song that had soothed the beast of the depths, now a revitalizing array of sound for others to hearken unto.

The Labyrinth

Cycle 7; The Voice

Hesitation. That's what one would expect, when encountering a foe that claims to be a part of the very environment that you stand within. Hesitation, which brings pause through consideration. Hesitation, which provides the dangers in life a single opportunity to leap.

That hesitation was nowhere to be seen by the adventurers beneath the ground. Nowhere to be found within the expanse that was a forest, beneath the very tunnels and earth. Instead, the initiative was taken, stolen away from the creature of the forest. As one might expect from those who spend their days delving into danger, standing before the horrors that is the world around them.

Flames leapt forth, licking at the very flammable essence that was their foe, and the forest that encompassed the area. Flames, which cleanse away the threat of everything, but burn the hand that feeds it should it not be controlled. Flames...the essence which ends worlds, only to dance upon their graves.

It was in this moment, as the wolf succumbed to the burning embrace of such flames, that it realised its mistake. It was but a pawn, chosen for the singular purpose of standing before these fighters in the hopes of...what? It wasn't sure, all it knew was that the flames tore into its body, that the flames destroyed its home and everything that it stood in defence of...

As the group watched, the fires set by @Zelrius burned through their target, quickly leaping from the Moss Wolf's body towards the environment around it. Where embers and sparks lay, the woods burned, turning the vision before them into one of horror - horror, in the destruction that was wrought upon the world before them.

Some may have begun to turn away, to look for another avenue towards freedom. Some may have stood and watched, as the very power they released turned upon them. Some...some may have glorified themselves in what they had created, joyful in the dancing mirage that spread before them.

Whether fleeing, fighting, or fervently watching over the scene before them; none were ready for the voice that seemed to echo around them. Girlish, giggling, overtly excited in the way it spoke. Slowly, as if emergence from the flames themselves, the body appeared, speaking in a way that bespoke madness, excitement, or something more sinister...

Flames...flames...go away...dance forever...another day! Tsch, tsch...look at what you've done, oh wonderful adventurers! Set aflame the home that was...how discourteous.

The figure seemed to stop, as if considering the group before it. The smile upon its face bespoke something far deeper, an excitement at the prospect of...what? Violence? Madness? Loss?

And here we were having so much fun...for now, though, you may pass. My sisters and I shall be waiting...and watching. Perhaps, one day, we'll see one another again.

A slight shift in the thing's weight, as if it was leaning off to its side, and suddenly the group found themselves outside once more. Before them, stood the entrance they had taken what felt like mere hours ago, the opening seemingly calling out to them, demanding them to enter. Had it all been a dream? A hallucination? Or...had something else, occurred?

Whether one could guess, could hypothesis, or even understand what had occurred...there was one agreement that all could come to - the Lair before them held something dark and sinister, a corruption that awaited any willing to test it...should they feel so inclined.

As the group stood, staring into the dark depths of the door, a laughter - tinkling and girlish - seemed to echo outwards, as if daring them to return...

Cycle 6 Notes

Conclusion

This brings a closure to the Challenge, a bit sooner than I had expected. However, while this one has come to an end - and after some major/minor fixes to the system - I'm hoping to be back with another adventure. The next won't be as easy, but I'm hoping that it will inspire storytelling as a whole.

I do want to take a quick moment to say thank you to the group for bearing with me regarding the mix-ups and confusions, as well as the numerous delays. I appreciate any and all feedback, and hope to provide an improved system shortly! As this was a trial run, I expected some issues, but found more than I thought!

A special thank you to @Valmont for providing me a huge resource of information. I cannot say enough how much I appreciate this feedback, and look forward to anything more you - or anyone else - has to add!

Final posts can be made, should anyone choose to do so, either here or in the comms area! I'll look at marking this complete and closed towards the end of tomorrow; approximately thirty-six (36) hours from now!

@Ronja Bubblyfoot, @Valmont, @Fiora Di Angelo, @Rael, @Zelrius, and @Aalam Abungu...thank you for joining us in the Labyrinth!
