Cycle Prologue: On the Tortoise Truck

"Ah, yeah, my first time too." And then Chako ran out of stuff to say... Small talk is hard.

Except she then became flabbergasted at Dynamax as he forgot her... And apparently forgot Luthien too.

"Uhn... We met in that annoying stuff with Trinity. Remember the dancing cat there? Doggo was saying some stuff there about recruiting me and the like... That was me!" Chako was honestly a bit annoyed that she was forgotten! She felt she was pretty remarkable herself!

"Oh, and nice to meet you too, miss fairy!" Chako waved.

"And I think both are good, by the way!" She waved to Emma too!

[Luthien]

Cycle 0

"That’s the spirit~" She smiles as @Emma begins to sing off key, before her attention turns to the two younger party members.

"I see not a lot has changed with ya, Max." Full of energy and almost filterless as always, though it looks like he forgot where they met before. "Solvale fields, they had that hog infestation a while back."

There was the weird dream with the Mad King too, but she doubts @Dynamax remembers it… though she can’t be certain if the same applies to his little companion.

"Don’t let him yank you around all the time, Jade." She whispers a small piece of advice to the fairy, along with a friendly wink.

"And that’s three votes for ‘both’~" With @Chako’s input their food “dilemma” is resolved, the elf clapping her hands together as a decision is made. "Majority rule and whatnot."

"What a lovely girl! Why couldn't you be a lovely girl like her, Max?"

Max rose an eyebrow. "For starters because I am a boy." He paused, looking at @Chako for a long moment before huffing with a nod. "Ah, yeah. You are right, you were that Doggo's friend. Well, it is good to see you again, friend of Doggo is my friend and all or something." He offered a handshake.

"Oh! A handshake. Max is finally becoming more polite, is being friend with Doggo finally changing you, or is it just that you are more of a cat-person?"

The only response was a death glare.

"Ah... And you are from that hog thing? That quest was horrible, not a single loot, and I was smelly for days." He clicked his tongue, while Jade leaned closer to @Luthien.

"I would never, he is just an idiot."

 

[Chako]

The more she heard, the more flabbergasted Chako got... Did he... Did he really not know that that was Chako and Doggo's first meeting?

Chako still took his handshake though, "Right, let's be good friends!" and smiled.

And well, she now knew the fairy's name from Luthien's whisper, so... With a name in mind, Chako too glared at Jade, "My heart is already taken, so don't bother with trying anything." she flat out told her.

And then Dynamax complained about lack of loot... "This is not going to be a very immersive experience, is it...?" Chako mumbled to herself.

The weight of another pair of eyes draws her attention from the youngsters just long enough to catch the stares from @Herculean Drakecon. "... What?" She knows he's investigating them thanks to the glow, but the expression on his face puzzles her.

Odd... don't think I've seen him around the Embertorch before. A light shrug follows the thought as she spares a faint smile back to the beastfolk, adjusting the chain around her neck that holds her violet whistle. "No need to be so formal... though you might wanna refrain from headbutting another Sun Claw while we're delivering their mail."

She offers a nod of understanding and a smile towards Jade, glad to hear the fairy knows how to manage her bundle of trouble, before @Chako's unexpected comment towards the pinkette earns a raised eyebrow. "Well, it's as immersive as any virtual MMORPG would be."

Was that the reason the felis was a bit testy with the fairy today? This might be a good lesson for her then. Best to learn sooner rather than later that things wouldn't always go the way one wanted or expected them to.

"Yeah, I thought we might find something interesting considering how odd those five were." Her focus turns back to @Dynamax, the whisper of a chuckle escaping as he grumbled about the aftermath of that event. "But we got enough meat for Finweald and the neighboring towns, so it wasn't exactly a waste."

 

[Dynamax]

As they finished handshaking, Max's frown couldn't help but go even deeper. First Jade went around implying he had a soft spot for cats, now @Chako was implying something romantic?

"Your heart is taken, so what? Nobody asked, nobody cares. Tsk, girls are always so eager to brag and bring their boyfriends and crushes to any talk." He rolled his eyes, shooting a glare at Jade.

"That's all your fault!"

Jade was giggling along with @Luthien, suddenly turning at Max when she was blamed for something.

"What did I do?"

"Existed!"

"WHAT?!"

The fairy and the monkey boy headbutted, glaring daggers at each other while grunting and hissing insults with gritting teeth.

Giving a hardy laugh with an agreed nod at @Luthien a big toothy grin. Sun claws were pretty tough but having to face more then at least at his rank would be pretty tough. "Wait am i known to be formal?Eh?i didn't think i was that famous compared to some others. Ya learned my lesson the hard way sun claws aren't the type to backdown. Hard to find foes like that when you aren't actively in guild work which i miss a lot. Facing down the unknown. He would smile as if remembering a fond memory then find himself quickly looking at @Dynamax and fairy companion butting heads.

This party was very entertaining to say the least and he was here for it. Standing back with luthien not adding anything yet. He is a big body able to step in-between two people should it get too serious." So seems we have lovers miss understanding. Glad to see we have a lively group then this will be quite the adventure then. He would find himself gazing at her hands oddly enough. Something about soft elf hands that appealed to him a lot. Even the player characters he had seen some hardened warriors with soft hands. In her hands she played with whistle a purple one."No way your a purple whistle rank?!?!? t-that's so awsome in my short time playing i haven't seen one in person! Your one more rank to a black whistle which that's an amazing achievement." Pulls out his golden whistle with a huge smile on his face," i still got my gold whistle but i got the heart of a black whistle. I have to ask you a favor...could you take me with you on your next expedition!"Eagerly waiting her response with huge smile on his face.

Chako really disagreed with Luthien's idea of immersion... Talking about loot and being on top a turtle truck was absolutely immersion breaking! Chako didn't have to deal with that while she was near Honeyhome!

She didn't have time to comment on that though, because she started blinking over and over at Dynamax's comment... I... Thought we were in agreement that Jade's comment was out of line?

Chako didn't understand why Dynamax suddenly started lashing out at her, and she was a bit stunned for a reply there... At least until he said something that she could agree with that is.

"No no, Jade. Dynamax is right. This really is all your fault." Chako commented... And after a small break, added, "Well, not existing, I guess existing would be your parents' fault, and it's not like existing is a bad thing anyways... But still, this is all your fault anyways!"

Though when Chako thought about it, Dynamax didn't blame Jade for existing, he said that what she had done wrong was existing... Which was still the wrong thing to blame her on, but it was still a different argument... But it's not like Chako could simply not say what she had already said, and it's not like it mattered much anyways, so she decided to not make any further comments.

Though Chako snapped and hissed at the other guy's comment, "There are no lovers here!"

"Oh boy…" An amused whistle escaped her lips as the conversation—if it could still be considered as such—between @Dynamax and @Chako escalated… poor Jade was going to have her hands full with those two.

"Friendly spars and whatnot are fine, but we should try to stay on friendly terms with the Sun Claws." Though time had dulled some of the tension between Starcalled and landers, it hadn’t fully dissipated after Szofrit’s decommissioning. "We’re able to log in and out as we please, but not everyone has that liberty."

Still, the way @Herculean Drakecon stared at her was unnerving. "... What?" A slight edge to her voice as she stared back at him, before the most unexpected words dropped out next.

"I—hrm hrrmm—I s-see..." It took everything she had to mask the laughter that threatened to bubble up by clearing her throat. "And, while I don’t doubt your words, I’m not willing to put a fellow explorer at risk like that."

A pity that Yugam was too busy to come along, buried under paperwork back at the Embertorch. "However I’ll be sure to put in a good word, perhaps you and Chako here can work together when the next expedition for gold and orange whistles comes up~" Time to throw Jade a helping hand…

 

[Chako]

Chako's attention was suddenly diverted from how everything was Jade's fault to the unexpected comment from Luthien, "Eeeeh!? An expedition...?

"But I don't wanna... It feels like work... Exploring is supposed to be fun, not work!" Well, playing the harp was also supposed to be just fun and not work, but that was how Chako was earning money these days; by playing her harp in the plaza of Honeyhome and waiting until new Starcalled dropped by and gave her some coins... Since well, Chako was not going to get anything from the people living there past the first day. She knew that from the start.

"Being sent here for work is already bad enough. I don't wanna have to do even more work for the Explorer's Guild..." Chako grumbled.

[Herculean Drakecon]

He would squint at @Chako quickly examining her and before walking over to her and standing Infront of her. Placing a hand on chin for a moment then squat down with one arm resting on his knee. She was only four eleven and to him she was tiny. Taking the hand off his chin and gently placed his massive hands on her head giving her head pats. "Aw quite small creature you are very kawii as the weeb's say. Don't take this the wrong way but very delicate for an explorer. I don't doubt your tough though the smaller person bigger the spirt."

He would grin at @Luthien with a thumbs up and a nod"Oh man putting in a good word for me to the guild? That would be awesome I've heard some good things about expeditions. My dream is to kill something big and unknown. Not sure what i am looking for its more you'll know when you see it kind of deals." Turning his attention back to chako and didn't notice a weapon her and nodded "Hm so uh what do you? Can you summon a giant fire ball or something? What about summon a giant companion you know like that anime trope. The small person with a huge robot kinda deal?. He was reminded of the fight during his early days. He was nearly beaten to by a small girl and her robot which pummeled him. He only won because he grabbed the girl and used her as shield before it could knock him out.

Chako reminded of shame he should've felt back then when he was reckless. For a moment he was sad holding it for a moment. Mentally shaking the feel off he would redeem himself. Waving his hand in the air and produced a hilt of a sword."Oi If miss @Luthien words are true then we should go on a expedition. This is my promise to you to accompany you. Just kind of smash the hilt on the ground and it will summon me. Eh call it a promise of duty. I need to get stronger for those who can't defend themselves.

[Chako]

Chako was suddenly taken aback when the giant guy that was talking to Luthien suddenly came over, like... He is big! Might even be bigger than the giant wolfman!

She didn't know how to react as he seemed to be looking all over her... He isn't a creep, is he?

The thought evaporated when the head pats came, "Purrrrr..." Chako's face was suddenly filled with a blissful smile, and it seemed like all tension had left her body.

"I don't... Don't think I'm particularly tough." She meekly replied while rubbing her head against the hand patting her.

Then, the giant started talking back to Luthien, and as the hand was lifted away from her head, she finally got her bearings again... Which meant Chako instantly went beet red and tried hiding herself in a corner of the space they were in, I... Really, really hate those instinctual reactions... Well, she knew part of it was her own conditioned reaction, but at least she didn't purr when this kind of thing happened on Earth.

And when the giant went back to talking to her, Chako answered, "I dance. I can do some magic with that... Like healing or strengthening others. This kind of thing." and the giant robot comment brought back some of her annoyance at this mission lacking any level of immersion, which was kinda welcomed at this point in time, since it distracted her a bit, and she didn't want to keep on mulling over her incredibly embarrassing behavior just now.

And what came next was... An offering to come whenever she needed? That he would be able to always come if Chako threw this sword hilt on the ground or something?

That... "That's way too much." Chako shook her head, And it's kinda creepy too. Can he spy on me with this kind of enchanted item? she didn't share those thoughts out loud though, "I don't like relying on others too much here in Arcia."

... I shouldn't have said the Arcia part. Chako sighed.

"Who are you anyways?" He was the only person here that she hadn't heard the name of... "Ah, and I'm Chako. Though you already heard that from Luthien."

He would laugh loudly forgetting his manners once again, Herc tends forget that when meeting new people."Oi forgot introduce myself the name is herculean drakecon,I know your a crocodile and not a dragon. I'm not well known because i tend to be kind of of weird and reckless. I've had a few notable moments but for the most part i just enjoy helping people."He would take a moment to and listen to her and wave off any doubts she she had." No matter how big or small the warrior they will always be useful in someway or another. I was killed once hurt like hell but lesson learned and all of that, Healers are pretty important on a battlefield. If your going get your whistle a healer is almost needed at all times. Hell i wish i could have a pocket healer at all times. Would make fighting so much easier and being able to go all out. You are as strong as you mentally make yourself. Find your strength use and find someone who can need it simple as that"

He would then smile and poke her nose before laughing, He had both a physical and mental toughness to come this far. "Everyone here will always have a place a battlefield if it isn't fighting. Oh the sword hilt for me to help you in your time of need. Miss @Luthien inspired me oddly enough, If i am going to get my black whistle i need to lift up those who need help the most. While i just met her its something that needed to learn as hero. Plus she is going to be in a good word for me so i have to show that i can do it, No one is getting left behind while i am around". Giving Luthien a thumbs up and a nod before having to re focus on the the misson at hand.

[Chako]

Chako was a bit relieved that Herculean was a man who seemed to focus more on what was said and less on what was left unsaid. It worked out better for her.

Either way, while she appreciated his encouraging words, it seemed to have the opposite effect of what was intended... Chako usually tried being optimistic and didn't think too much about things, but... With someone telling her about how a healer's role is important or how she could be as strong as she could make herself be... All that came to Chako's mind was that she simply wasn't someone who was good enough for people to rely upon.

It was strange... Chako was just feeling uncomfortable at this point. It was not a feeling she was used to.

So, as he finished saying what he wanted, Chako just replied to the last part, "Thanks, but... Sorry, I can't take it. Keep your sword hilt." Was it too blunt? Chako wasn't sure... But she really did not want to be able to summon anyone at will. She did not want to have the option to rely on someone else whenever she felt like she needed them.

... She really was way too tired of always needing to rely on others.

@Luthien Somewhere deep in your soul you heard an echo...

And then it was gone. Gone like a soap bubble of a dream you'd just awakened from on a warm weekend morning. Shimmering in the sunlight you might have seen an afterimage of a king giving a two-finger salute fading into sparkles that scattered off on the breeze. And that was that.

 

[Chako]

"I heard that before... I don't really know how to simply block my senses..." Chako never felt like she had any real control over that.

Though she also never expected to get dizzy due to a cacophony of smells... She usually just had trouble with sounds.

"I just hope we get to our destination soon so that I can get away from all those smells..." Chako mumbled... And her wish was granted before long, but not before she was greeted with some mad people shouting at each other.

"Get away from the smells...?" She would've understood if it'd been foul or rotten odors, but the food stalls around here breathed such delicious aromas that even at the start of her gameplay Lúthien was sure it wouldn't have bothered her nose...

Well there would've been one problem, she would've been so hungry the ranger might've blown through a sizable chunk of her savings.

"Luckily for you this village is filled to the brim with beastfolk~" She made sure to leave the caenis part out, last thing anyone needed was @Chako freaking out over that too. "Maybe try asking them for help? Surely at least one of them here must have good advice for your troubles."
