Kyra

She watched, from the corner of her eye, as Caelia continued to work on the injured around them. The words of the other rang true, but Kyra had heard all the arguments before. The questions, specifically those designed around but what about when you're not here?, had always left the same answer.

"Travelling would be nice, once I get myself situated. For the time being, there's enough people here who need help - and as you stated, I'm not the only one in this world who goes about helping others. That's not to say I don't make my way from the encampment once in a while. Often times the medical staff here have me heading out somewhere, or another, in order to obtain something or help someone...but I always return."

She fell silent for a moment as she cauterised the wound on one individual, using a tool offered by one of the medical staff nearby. The smell of burnt flesh hung in the air for a moment, causing Kyra's nose to wrinkle slightly, before she continued her conversation.

"One day, I'm sure I'll find myself on the move again. And a medical centre, with the ability to travel...would be nice. One day. But I think, for myself at least, I'll always be in the place where the most people need me."

She looked at the Faerin, a sad smile on her face as she spoke again.

"If there's one thing we can be sure of...it's that healers will always be required. So long as there's horror in the world, our work will never be complete..."

Caelia had sort of expected that kind of answer. Kyra seemed like the type who wanted to be where she was needed. Hell, if Caelia wasn't so taken by wanderlust, she might have wanted to stay here, too. Being needed was...nice. But she didn't just want to be needed. She wanted to be wanted by others. She wanted them to enjoy her company because she was herself, not just because of the services she provided. So, she wandered, meeting new folks and adding to her friends list as she went.

Speaking of...

Would you mind if I added you to my contacts? You've been really nice, and it'd be good to keep in touch. I can, I don't know, tell you about things I see while I'm traveling! You could tell me how things are going here, too.

She was still looking down at the patient she was currently working on, but after a few more seconds, she looked up, satisfied with her work. She stayed kneeling for a moment, opening her UI and finding the contacts section to add Kyra.

Notice

@Caelia Etterni would like to add you to their contacts.

She sent the message across, looking up at Kyra with a gentle, friendly smile.

I'm trying to make as many meaningful connections as I can here... It's a lot easier for me to do behind the venier of the game than in real life.

The question caught Kyra off guard, only in the sense that it was so out of place. She nodded, her focus entirely on the individual she was helping at the moment. She finished up, before gently pressing the acceptance button that had appeared before her in the air, likely looking a bit odd to those who wouldn't know what she was doing.

"Of course! I always enjoy having contacts with the world beyond the encampment. If nothing else, it lets me keep in touch with what's going on, and if there's opportunities outside of the encampment that may require my assistance."

She took a second to glance at the other, before continuing to speak - acknolwedging the final comments of the Faerin; comments that Kyra could only mirror.

"Yes, meeting people in this game is...certainly much easier than meeting people in real life, in many cases. I wonder if it's because we can be who we really want here, or if it's something else...No matter what it is, though...I've definitely made some better friends here, than I ever did in the real world. Even if I don't know their real life persona...I think what matters is what's in here. Where they can be who they truly want to be."

She gave a shrug, before turning her attention back to the injured, working silently, but with a slightly flushed face. She had shared more than she had meant to, feeling comfortable with the Faerin. Still, it had felt good to make those connections, even if they were just words.

The Faerin smiled brightly as the request was accepted, pushing herself up off of her knees and back to a standing position. She nodded a bit along with what Kyra was saying, agreeing wholeheartedly. I can be who I want to be here...

You can be anything you want to be.

Oh, now you're here,
she thought, both amused and slightly annoyed. It was right, though. She could be anything she wanted...

No one could step on her here.

For a moment, if Kyra was watching, there was something to Caelia's expression that was different than her bubbling, smiling appearance before. Something...darker, just for a moment, before it faded away.

Well, we still have a lot to do. I can't just up and leave with people I could still help... (quieter) No one seems to have noticed, anyways, so I think it's okay to keep helping like I have been, yeah?

Kyra

A shift, if only for a moment. Short enough that Kyra questioned if she'd really seen anything or not. Instead, she was distracted by the commentary of the Faerin, confirming that there was more to do - as well as the fact that none seemed to have noticed, or taken offence at, how Caelin was assisting.

Kyra glanced about, taking in the scene. A large collection of medical staff had finally arrived - enough now that Kyra couldn't see much more work being required on their own part. She nodded her head, more in habit than any actual answer to the other's questions. Leaning back on her heels, she gave a large sigh of relief.

"I would say it looks like our work here is coming to a close, if only for the moment...There's more than enough others to take over for the time being, which means we can take some respite from...this."

She gave a wave of her hand over the scene, accenting the reference that likely wasn't required at all. She could feel the tired expression on her own face, and she could see it in the others around her. It seemed like it was a constant state for some, here. Which is why I can't leave...not yet. Although, perhaps there are other things that can be done...

She gave a quick, sly smile towards Caelia, before nodding towards the far side of the encampment. Her words carried a combination of humour, and an almost thankful tone to them as she acknolwedged the others help.

"You really helped a lot of people here, today...and me. Thank you. If you ever wanted to truly get into the profession, feel free to reach out to me. One of these days, I'm hoping to open my own medical clinic, somewhere...one of these days."

She rolled herself up onto her feet, before offering a hand to Caelia, waiting for the other to rise themselves, before offering them one, final smile.

"It was a pleasure to meet you, Caelia...and if you're ever in the area, don't be shy - feel free to drop by and say hi to me at any time, yeah?"
