She wanted to believe the sound of rushing water that her ears were picking up were just some forgotten reservoir that happened to be nearby, but as she watched @Ronja‘s turning eyes as the magia explored her memory the floor of their level became engulfed with water. "Maldita sea…!" A faint whisper escaped as reality finally catched up with the trio, before concerned eyes turned to look at the smallest one of them all as the water level continued to rise without mercy.

"Dear, Luthy, Ronja needs some opening a portal to get this water out of here—" Crimson eyes watched as the magia began to work her magic, Ronja’s quick thinking guiding their efforts without missing a beat as a solution to their problem was offered. With @Fiora blocking most of the incoming flowing water Lúthien had decided to help her friend in the creation of the portal, before the unexpected and abrupt whirl on the wait-level water completely shattered the elf’s concentration.

"R-Ronja!"
"Ronja!"

The greenette is the first to act as the magical barrier Fiora had created shatters without a second thought, and as the knightess reaches for their little tinkerer the ranger gathers her footing before wading towards the spot that Fiora had previously occupied. "On it!" There’s no hesitation as she began to gather the astral energies around them, knowing that the magia would be safe and in good hands with Fiora to support her.

A new barrier shimmers to life as it forms, its light purple surface glimmering as the force of the flowing water pushes against it. It’s then that her ears catch the faint trickles from the opposite direction, an audible groan escaping before Lúthien turns to look at the corridor behind them. She barely has time to form a second barrier in its place before a new flow of water appears from further down, the water crashing against the magical barrier as the ranger pours all she has into keeping most of it away from them until Ronja’s portal is finally functional and able to drain it away.

"What the hell?"

She stepped back upon seeing the ooze that was let loose, the thing melting everything behind it, including steel pipes and metal doors easily. "What kind of weird things were the MIT keeping under here?"

Pushing the ooze with a copyright-free force-push gravitational magic, it bounced back from the wall, seemingly taking no damage. Thankfully, more travelers arrive, and among them was @Rael, conjuring a mana bubble that floats around them.

"Thanks!"

Quickly submerging both of her arms inside it, she could feel the power overwhelming her, letting her manipulate her body in an instant. Gigantic claws emerged as soon as she pulled out her hands, and Lune quickly dashed toward the Fire Lord Oozai, slicing it without mercy.

Alright, trying to dispatch an oozy creature with sharp attacks might not be the smartest thing, since they kept hunting after they had been cut into thousand pieces.

"The smaller ones...!"

When an emergency occurred you wanted clear protocols for how to proceed, and for everyone who was expected to be on-site to have undergone training to ensure they knew what to do and would be capable of it during times of high stress.

Either the people of MITHRA had never bothered with these kind of measures or this was a good example of how even with the most secure of precautions you could never fully expect people to keep their cool when shit really hit the fan.

Mizuki's perspective might be affected by the fact that she was only perceiving glimpses of what was going on throughout the facility, as she was currently travelling through the ventilation system in a serpentine form, but most of what she did observe indicated chaos and pandemonium.

Under different circumstances she might have done her best to help them out, but during an emergency you had to prioritise. If her suspicions were correct then all this chaos was still a small price to pay for keeping the worst-case scenario from occurring. Which was why she kept moving onwards, diving down another level while sounds echoed throughout the metal shafts.

It was only once she came across a truly dangerous situation that she felt compelled to delay her descent, the wildling peering out from a ventilation shaft to watch some kind of mysterious ooze attacking people, sticking to their solid bodies with its sticky substance and pulling them in. Panic was one thing, but maybe it was a bit much to literally leave people to die.

Her own form lost cohesion as she pushed herself through the grate, reforming as a sanguine wolf on the other side and dashing towards the remnants of the ooze. Right before she came into contact with it she came to a halt and shifted again, to her usual self with one arm already in motion. Blood seeped out from her arm and merged with it, forming a large, vibrantly red appendage that slammed straight into the ooze. Mizuki's blood-limb was viscous enough that as she completed her haymaker of a swing she dragged the ooze along, leaving only behind those people who had been facing the very real danger of getting dissolved to death.

A loud, heavy splat resounded as blood-limb and ooze slammed against the solid walls of the underground complex, the vicious slime splattered and crushed to the point that even its amorphous shape could no longer remain whole.

With the hostile substance pacified Mizuki quickly recalled her blood even as she turned back and ran towards the same vent she'd appeared from. No time to look after the people captured by the ooze either: there were others available for that task, and the wildling didn't know whether this delay, short-lived as it had been, hadn't already been too much.

Almost as quickly as she'd appeared to finish off the ooze Mizuki disappeared again, with only the faint sound of smooth scales against metal betraying her departure.

Tubby slunk across the floor, leaving behind trails of slime, sliding forward faster than he ever had before (which is still relatively slow considering how small he is, but the little boy is trying, ok?). Yugam followed closely behind the little wurm, trusting it to guide him to their prey.

The alarms sounding from within MIT were an entirely different concern altogether. Unrelated to Yugam's far more pressing matters. No one stole from him, least of all something so important. Not without consequences.

Tubby made a strange sound (as all his sounds were strange, being a wurm) notifying Yugam that they were close to the culprit. The hemomancer knelt down to the ground and offered a hand to the wurm, who crawled his way back into Yugam's breast pocket. The man pressed himself against the wall, and listened carefully. The rush of water, a number of voices. One he did not recognize at all. But there was that scent.

Yugam burst around the corner, "GIVE ME BACK MY SANDWICH!" He tackled a random researcher who had somehow found himself among the company of @Luthien , @Ronja Bubblyfoot and @Fiora Di Angelo . The sandwich flew high into the air, and Tubby launched from Yugam's pocket, diving beneath the sandwich to cushion its fall. Sadly the sandwich is much larger than Tubby, and he is squished and dies. Jk, he doesn't die. He is squished though.

"Good catch buddy," Yugam says to the little wurm as he lifts the sandwich, and Tubby in the other hand.

It wasn't until a familiar voice said his name that Yugam realized the others were there. "Luth? What's goin' on?"

Despite having been on the team that contained the Ooze the day prior, the only thing she had that was remotely useful was a static discharger, which she couldn't use since the blobby enemy had captured Sven.

Fortunately for the Fixer, there was an entire ensemble who lent a hand to take the ooze down. @Rael was the first to join the fray, dictating the group's rhythm with her magic. Then came the elemental combo that was @Aika's aquatic strings and @Devi's fiery punches, followed by @Kyanna Wynne's destructive hex, @Imoogi's pungent flask, @Lune's deadly cuts, and @Ueno Mizuki's flashy finish.

The moment the ooze slammed against the wall and splattered, Sven, along with several victims trapped within the ooze dropped onto the floor, coughing and hacking as they tried to expel the corrosive slime flesh from their throat.

"Sven!" Clarissa called out to the bespectacled blonde as she came to his side where she sent her palm to the middle of his back several times, helping him get the last of the slime out of his system.

"Gueeh…" Sven groaned, clutching his burning throat.

Once she was certain that the youth would be fine on his own, the ponytailed fixer stood up verbally showed appreciation to those who came to their aid, "Thank you! I take it that if you're here, you're heading down to Level-V, right? If so, stick with us. Sven here knows the best way to get down. Just need to give him a minute or two to shake off his wounds. I don't know what's going on down there, but I sure hope it's not--???!!!"

A tremor shook the entire facility, stopping Clarissa from finishing her sentence.

Immediately after he finished his coughing fit, Sven fought to get up on his feet as he croaked out pained words, "Come on, we're on a schedule here… If you're heading down, stick by me..."

Clarissa extended her dominant arm and wrapped it around Sven's side, supporting the blonde as he hobbled toward his original destination.

Together, the group makes their way down to Level-III, where their feet were greeted with the leftover leakage that @Ronja Bubblyfoot, @Fiora Di Angelo, and @Luthien had managed to fix, even if the work started on the wrong foot.

Without any obstacle in their path, all that was left was to get to Level-IV and work on opening up the Spine, which was the only way to go down into Level-V.

Cycle 3

PROGRESS
[ 984 / 1250 ]

Rules
  • This is a megathread so all megathread rules apply.
  • Up to 2 characters per OOC account may participate in the event.
  • Make up to 2 replies per character per cycle: 1 with roll and the other for roleplaying.
  • Max word count is 500 words excluding BBcodes.
  • If you would like to take a personal moment with others, branch off via a private thread in the regular forum.
  • Any communication can be done either by making a private comms thread or posting in the event's official comms thread.
  • To interact with Clarissa, tag me in the comms thread.
Setup

  • You are somewhere within the MITHRA, which is divided into 5 expansive levels (floor). They are labeled starting from ground level and counting downward: 0 (ground floor), 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
  • The MITHRA has both above-ground floors and underground floors. The underground portion was constructed with heavily reinforce metal and stone for security. All five floors are built in a cylindrical shape around the Central Stairwell (called the Spine). There are research facility, lounges, lodging and other faculties on each floor. Although the fastest way to move between the levels is through the Spine, it also comes with the most intricate of security measures.
  • The Spine is completely impenetrable so you have to find alternative ways to get down.
  • There are hidden hazards or obstacles that may hinder the group's progress.
Objective: Get to the bottom of this. Enter the Containment Zone (Level-V) and figure out what is happening

Mechanics
  • You may move between the floors.
  • Each cycle, you may move up or down 1 level.
  • Each time you move up or down 2 levels instead of 1, spend 4 passive movements or 3 passive movements and BA rush, or before taking action, use your bonus action and make an expertise check (Awareness or Knowledge 100+). If you fail you may not move at all this cycle as you are lost.
  • You may only interact with the encounter or people on the same floor as you.
  • Check to make sure that you apply the starting penalty to yourself based on your previous location (your starting location before you take your action).
  • You may make an expertise check or a mastery check and flavor your action accordingly to add to the progress track. In order to go down to Level-V, you must meet all the sub-objectives in addition to capping the progress meter.
  • The objectives aren't meant to be completed super quickly. Take your time. Pacing will be adjusted depending on the number of players who show up.

Ground Floor

You should already have descended down to Level-I by now.

(Encounter S0) Sandowichstan Retrieval: Mediterranean Breeze
  • Spend an action and retrieve the "Mediterranean Breeze Sandwich" Grilled chicken breast, sun-dried tomatoes, fresh basil leaves, crumbled feta cheese, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze, served on a crusty ciabatta roll.

Level-I

(Bonus Encounter S) When you start on or go down to this level, you are privvied to a bonus mission involving a highly-paranoid MIT culinary researcher, Sandya Sandowichstan, who had just completed his Sandowichstan Special Fives, the 5 sandwiches to rule them all. They are unfortunately spread across the 5 levels (ground, 1, 2, 3, 4) and stored inside the malfunctioning fridges. Retrieve them before they spoil.
  • Use an action to find and retrieve the sandwiches.
  • Bring all the sandwiches and pass them to Sandya with a BA at Level-I before the start of Cycle 4 or they will spoil.
  • You may use a bonus action to pass the sandwich to someone else.
  • Collection list: Mediterranean Breeze, Banh Mi Fusion, California Dream, Roppongi Delight, Tex-Mex Spicy Latina
(Encounter S1) Sandowichstan Retrieval: Banh Mi Fusion obtained.

Level-II

Cleared. Reward: +2 passive movement when you start here.

(Encounter S1) Sandowichstan Retrieval: California Dream
  • Spend an action and retrieve the "California Dream Sandwich" Sliced turkey, crisp bacon, ripe avocado, juicy tomato, and creamy herb aioli, nestled between two slices of toasted whole wheat bread.

Level-III

Cleared. Reward: +2 passive movement when you start here.

(Encounter S0) Sandowichstan Retrieval: Roppongi Delight obtained.

Level-IV

Take 40 damage from the heating system and electro flux going haywire when you start your turn or enter this floor. Damage reduction and negation may apply here, however, be aware that you may need the BA to perform the actions below.

(Encounter O) Override the overwatch module to unlock the Central Stairwell (Spine).

  • There are 20 combinations that must be tried. Use an action to roll 1d2 to see how many combinations you can go through before the console rejects you. Using a BA adds one more (1d3). Magitech rank C, B, A, S adds +1 (up to 1d7).
  • Take 20 damage after this encounter.
(Encounter D) Find the damaged pipe that is responsible for dumping heat into the entire Level-IV floor.
  • There are 6 possible locations where the leakage could be, since they are too hot and too steamy, they are difficult to navigate to.
  • Use your action and roll 1d6 per 4 movements to reach the leakage. You will only reach the leak by rolling a 4.
  • Take 30 damage after this encounter.
  • Upon completion, the damage from starting or entering this floor will be reduced to 20, but the encounter damage will stay the same.
(Encounter S4) Sandowichstan Retrieval: Tex-Mex Spicy Latina
  • Spend an action and retrieve the "Tex-Mex Spicy Latina Sandwich" Slow-cooked pulled pork, tangy barbecue sauce, spicy jalapeños, crunchy coleslaw, and melted cheddar cheese, all piled high on a soft brioche bun.
  • Take 20 damage after this encounter.

Level-V

Inaccessible. Clear Encounter O & D to access.

The tremor forced her to brace herself moreso than ever, yet her body stood firm from earlier, doubling the effort down as she slammed her back against the wall, the air leaving her lungs with the impact alone as she held @Ronja Bubblyfoot closer to guard her.

With @Luthien's sudden outcry for @Yugam , her eyes turned to watch over as the man went after some sandwich in the middle of the crisis and, worst of all, seemed far less out of tune than ever with his surroundings giving his questions. Just explorers being explorers, aka, completely clueless.

"That's the last of it, we should really hurry up..." Her eye moved over to the group, then finally ended up on Ronja as she slowly let the magia back down to her feet. "Point the way but let me take the front, just in case something's waiting for us." She said, not willing to budge on that, given the current crisis.

It proved to be a good thing that she did, as past the metal doors that opened when they got close enough. Thanks to her beloved's knowledge of the layout, they would make it deeper into the facility, only to be greeted by a hellish sauna, with the floor being in a sorry state in comparison to the ones above, the damage far more evident to her eyes.

"Ugh, the steam must be coming from somewhere around here." She shook her head, trying to keep her senses pulled together. Given how foggy things had gotten in this floor, it made her rely on her ear instead-

Something sparked on the dark, forcing her eye to widen once this object bounced from the ceiling and went straight for them all, the many electrical wires still active and now turned into a shocking hazard within the hallway.

"Carefu!-" She couldn't get the warning out in the time her body reacted, spreading her arms to grasp on the cables coming to Ronja's direction, or as many as she could, her body spasming as the voltage coursed through, an anguished cry following up moments before she ripped the cables off with a yank, dropping to her hands and knees.

"S-shit, we are going nowhere like this." Breathless, her eye turned over to Ronja as she panted, struggling to get herself to stand up. "Go, you are the only one... Who can fix the electrical systems." A hand went over to her side, the pain stung hard enough to make contact painful enough to wince.

With the urgency of a corpse, Chrystopheles returned to Cafeteria Lady Sandowichstan with one of his five magical sandwiches. This one was called the Banh Mi Fusion Sandwich, which Chrys had a hard time resisting. Truth be told, he always did fancy the Asians. Food… Asian food. Sure, Chrys. Sure.

"I have one. Here. I’ll go get the one on the ground floor."

Chrys left the first sandwich he had found to Cafeteria Lady Sandowichstan before returning to the floor above them. He passed other panicking scientists, or whatever these nerds called themselves, but kept to his mission. No amount of screaming bespectacled children can distract the massive mountain man from his quest. This was why he was an Orichalcum Rank Adventurer, not one of those basic ranks. Like pewter or cerulean.

What sandwich must I retrieve somewhere here again? It took him his entire journey to the malfunctioning fridge, only remembering what it was once his eyes were on it. Ah… A Mediterranean Greece Sandwich. Or is it Mediterranean Grease? Eh. It was all Greek to him.

Get it? All Greek? Mediterranean? Greece? Grease? Eh, he's retired. Chrys also loves chicken breasts, by the way. This is basically the hardest mission for a retiree.

Her eyes went to the Technical Support woman, then to this Sven guy. Man, people at the MIT really don't inspire much confidence, do they? "Right, lead the way." Lune promptly went down the level with the rest of the group.

The aforementioned Floor IV should be renamed to Fourth Floor of Hell, since it's so hot in here she had to double-check if they were not in that volcanic mountain fighting the Prince of Fire. Was someone actually rerunning that boss?

Pipe leak? Why has everything here started to sound like a third-world problem? And that would actually be easy to fix, if only this place wasn't structured like a maze.

"Fuck it. Spider-sense, go." The red-haired woman ran through the hot gas and steam into one of the diverging paths, before ending up in a dead end with just nothing but a vending machine at the corner.

"Nope, not here!" She shouted at the others, warning them to not waste time and follow her here. "Find it ASAP or we'll die here trying!"

"Luth? What's goin' on?"
"Dunno, your guess is as good as ours."

She’s relieved to see Tubby is well even after the wurm had a sandwich bigger than himself landed atop the little guy, before the ranger shrugs her shoulders slightly after closing the distance separating her from the hunter. There’s little time to catch up when a familiar blond researcher, currently supported by a Fixer, appears in their corridor—and with a whole entourage in tow too. "Sven!?"

A part of her is surprised to see him all the way down here, but there’s little time to exchange words as their small party decides to join up with them. Finding a quick route to the next level becomes child’s play under his guidance, but any celebratory thoughts are quickly squashed when a rush of heat engulfed them all once the doors were finally opened.

"Uuugh!" Her hands raise instinctively to protect her face as the steam swirls around them, faint squeaks signaling that Tirsk is now awake as the small basilisk crawls out of her hiding place in the ranger’s vest. "Too hot even for you, huh?"

"Ugh, the steam must be coming from somewhere around here."
"Fuck it. Spider-sense, go."

@Fiora is the first to step into the unwanted sauna that is the fourth level, closely followed by @Lune, while the blaring sirens and flashing red lights only aid in making their personal hell even worse with their presence. "Stay hidden, Tirsk…" Even the young creature is able to pick up the gravity of their circumstances, a soft croon escaping before it wiggles back into the ranger’s vest to hide on an inner pocket. A glance is given towards @Ronja and @Yugam, before the elf decides to follow the others and venture into the thick steam that clouds every inch of this place.

"Y yo pensaba que nada podía ser peor que peh-fucking-erre…" A quiet grumble escaped her lips even as the moonstone on her choker glows softly, the stone serving its purpose as it aids the ranger to channel her magic while she tries to shift the air within this place—though it does little to clear her vision or relieve her from the heat that only seems to strengthen with each passing moment.

"Carefu!—" The warning causes her to pause and look towards the source, the visual display as live wires connect with a solid source impossible to miss even through the thick and damp hell-fog that surrounds them all. "Fio?!" She calls out, the concern evident in her voice, before Lune’s own feedback echoes through the mist. "Nope, not here! Find it ASAP or we'll die here trying!"

A part of her is tempted to head in Fiora’s direction and make sure the greenette is alright, before the shifting critter within her vest causes Lúthien to bite her lower lip. She’s probably fine… nothing’s taking her down, not while Ronja’s around. There’s no time to lose, not if they want to avoid ending like crawfish on a cajun boil, before the elf heads down a different direction away from the other two.

"W-Wait…!" It’s hard to tell from a distance, a gloved hand moving to wipe off the mixture of moisture and sweat that now clings to her face before the blonde presses further ahead. "I found something—!" A large looking object slowly begins to take shape as she moves closer, an excited grin crossing her lips as she called out to the others, before her voice abruptly cuts off as she finally gets a clear view of it. "... a fucking fridge?!"

It’s impossible to keep the exasperated tones away from her words, disappointment washing over her as the ranger stares at the offending machitech creation. A faint squeaking noise echoes in the air as the partly open door swings back and forth softly, causing Lúthien to frown before a hand reaches out to stop the noise. "It’s not here!!!" She has half a mind to slam it shut in order to vent some of her frustration, before the familiar scent of pulled pork and melted cheese get caught in her nose.

Curiosity gets the best of ehr then and, with a grunt and a forceful tug, she’s able to pry the door open all the way before noticing the wrapped oblong shape resting inside. She reaches for it, confirming through touch what her nose already knows, before a quick movements in the air from her dominant hand cause the sub to safely disappear into her inventory.

Well, it certainly didn't seem like anyone had a real clue of what was going on, which at least meant that Yugam wasn't the most clueless person here. At worst, everyone else was at his level. Which, come to think of it was actually pretty bad, but glossing over that minor detail, there was still the matter of Yugam's unattended lunch. Unfortunately for him, it seemed like there were other things he'd have to deal with first before consuming the sandwich which he stowed away in his inventory, the delicious amalgamation magically disappearing in a haze of blue light.

Slowly everyone waded into the thick steam that filled the air here. The heat was palpable, unbearable even, and almost hot enough to cause their skin to blister and burn. "Find it ASAP or we'll die here trying!"
"I'm still on my first death, so no rush!"
Yugam countered instead as he was also not able to find this mysterious burst pipe. The MIT really needed to work on their infrastructure.

30 damage mitigated (@Fiora Di Angelo)

A lot happened fairly quick, with the protective hold of her lover being the main thing that kept the magia going. An apologetic, and grateful smile were given to @Fiora Di Angelo and @Luthien, just as she got back to her feet. "Sorry... Ronja went a bit too far." She sighed, trying to rush along. "We just need to keep going ahead, the Level-IV is as close as we can get to our destiny right now, but to open the access in these conditions will be a little..."

Before Ronja could make it clear what were the dangers, however, they presented themselves in a very direct way, with the cables electrocuting Fiora and making Ronja yelp in surprise and horror. "FIORA!" She rushed to touch the elf's back gently, pursing her lips as she was told to keep going.

"... Ronja may do it, but you better be careful." She frowned, taking a deep breath when noticing that Fiora wasn't in life danger.

They needed to get done with that mess as quick as possible, and so she rushed, soon finding herself attempting to decode the access, though not without the cost of some retaliation from the security system itself.

Devi heaved a huge sigh of relief when the ooze went down, so to speak. She immediately turned to @Aika and looked her over for any injury or bruise and heaved another sigh when she found close to nothing of grave severity.

"Looks like we’re still in one piece, darling! Now, come on! There's probably still plenty of people below."

That and I’m sure once this is all done and over with, my client’s going to celebrate my heroics! Would make for more clients and thus more money if she starts spreading that news!

With a huge grin on her face, she proceeded to go down to the next floor level, kicking doors and helping trapped scientists out of there. There was a couple of them trapped underneath fallen tables and cabinets and what other furniture they had in those rooms, so Devi did her part in making sure they wouldn’t be left behind.

"Come on, guys! What are you still doing down here? Get up and get on out of here! Grab others along the way!"

All this destruction and for what? No, really, for what? Devi wasn’t sure what was going on, what the answer to that question and many others were, so she just took her time and did what she knew best: Make sure a potential client wouldn’t get crushed during all this chaos. Waste not, want not, or however that goes.

Not much was changing for the situation at hand. MAI had to find a way to the other floors if she wanted to do more good than just fixing random machines and find out what was really going on. And given what state of disrepair the whole building was in, she figured that she no longer had to be particularly careful with how she went about things.

Focusing her gravitational powers to their absolute maximum, she started tearing a hole in the white walls that surrounded her, attempting to open herself a small passage through which she could squeeze to the next floor. The process was briefly interrupted by a small message popping up in her UI, one that gave raise to more questions than anything else.

Kyanna Wynne

"I'm in-!"

"In? What do you mean in?"

@Kyanna Wynne

The magia didn't have much time to ponder, unfortunately. Alas, before she could move, yet another encounter got in her way - a member of the MIT suddenly threw something at her. Catching, she was rather surprised to find that it was... a sandwich..?

"????"

"Bring that to the next floor! One of our colleagues is there; these are his masterpiece! The fridge started malfunctioning, so we gotta gather them in one place and do our best to ensure that they do not spoil!"

Baffled but unwilling to waste any more time with this, MAI kept the sandwich as she moved her body through the air and into the newly created opening that ought to get her further and closer to the core of this whole thing.

With the slime defeated Mizuki had hoped they'd dealt with the worst of the obstacles, allowing everyone to return their focus to the greatest issue at hand. Unfortunately, such optimism would soon turn out to be false hope.

Slithering through the ducts, passing one floor and heading for the next without stopping, she felt the temperature rising. Something had gone haywire with the climate control systems, so now instead of a stable temperature everyone was in danger of overheating. Her usual lupine form would only work against her in these circumstances...

Her attempts at bypassing this challenge and heading straight for where Szofrit was kept were stymied by the revelation that the ducts didn't connect to the lowest floor of the complex, most likely for security reasons. Just like everyone else she'd need to use the stairs if she wanted to get to where Szofrit was kept. Slithering out of the vents as she'd done before she looked around, seeing that some of the others had also arrived here and were already trying to both fix the systems turning this level into an oven and breaking into the security systems that were denying all of them access to the final level.

Returning to her usual form she shaped it to adapt to this new hazardous environment: her entire body was covered in a layer of short but very thick and sleek fur, making her look more like some kind of mustelid than a wolf. With the insulative layer keeping the heat at bay she headed for the security systems, watching as @Ronja Bubblyfoot managed to make several attempts at getting through before she was shut out.

Which combinations have you already used?

Following up on Ronja's attempt Mizuki tried another combination, but either the security was catching onto the fact that unauthorised personnel were trying to get through or she'd somehow messed up. As the terminal told her that the code was incorrect sparks erupted from the keyboard, shocking the surprised caenis who quickly pulled her hands back with a yelp.

What the-?!

Shaking her hands to get the tingling sensation out of them Mizuki growled, closing her eyes and inhaling sharply.

We're going to need help.

Each of the women takes turns swinging at the creature, its alchemical composition slowly eating away at their armor and skin alike, burns already visible upon each one of them. But no matter, because before long it lays inert on the floor, no more than a viscous liquid now that the threat lays dormant, unable to tear at them anymore.

"Have you heard anything from those unfortunate enough to be trapped with... Her?" And she knows better than to keep hope for the alternative from showing in her voice, a being targeted by Time itself knowing that she wouldn't have the opportunities she had been afforded before. She keeps up the pace with others regardless, near fainting from the incoming heatwave and holding onto the nearest person for balance.

Her health meter depletes in front of her eyes, and her head lulls to the side to watch her summon appear beside her with an offer for comfort, magical materials at the ready to patch up her wounds. And so she stays behind, with the strangers working on cracking down the combination.

Once the slime was well taken care of, Aika turned to @Devi with a triumphant grin. Her partner’s worries were for naught, as once again, as per usual, she was flawless. For the most part. They both were. World's Greatest Lovers and all that.

"Right behind you, sweetie!"

Aika may not care as much for those people below them, figuratively also beneath them, as Devi did, but she wasn’t a fool. There was indeed more practical use for a pawn still in play, and until the broader game was over, or even started, she wouldn’t say no to ensuring her own field, maybe even theirs, had enough pawns to play with. Such was the nature of the game of life.

"Hey there! Make sure to stay safe and remember that the World's Greatest Lovers had your back today!"

Shameless self-promotion with every person they saved aside, Aika did her part to ‘help’ as well, gracefully bringing people back to their feet and cleaning off any debris they may have had on their faces or general selves with her Hydromancy. Plus, her smile should have helped brighten their fearful demeanors. Customer service 101. Also advertising 101.

The lifetime of an opportunity presented itself when chaos decided to take a trip into the facilities that conveniently house the Mother of Machines. So convenient that they had just finished their newest frames and the shells of their bodies had changed into something difficult to recognize from the last! Even the paint work and porcelain was of the highest quality to ensure humanity where there is not!

They crawled and crawled, bumping onto eachother through the ventilation system up to the point they reached the outer shells of mayhem, where the path cut off entirely, and instead begun protocol: Leg Day and tracked their way to Floor IV, where they realized just how terrible management was within these facilities.

Wires gone awry, deadly smoke everywhere, even the thermostat bumped to dangerously high levels!

"Of course YOU of all people are in the middle of it all, as Tick calculated."

Her index fingers became pokers, aiming for @Rael's right side, a big dumb smile forming on Tick's lips as her eyes went up to meet the pinkette. Destiny walked with her, or maybe it was just misfortune what plagued her?

"Big Sis Rael, long Tock no see!"

Tock leaned from Rael's left side, offering a warm smile upon a soothing expression amidst the technological chaos within this floor.

"Tock's sure you didn't forget our agreement, yes yes? one magical, four-sided three-dimensional object for us, in exchange of sparing Mama's life."

"We heard sirens and thought it's open for visitors now! Mama must be so lonely down there in the basement..."

Tick waved her hands in dismissal, at the same time Tock took off on her own. By the way things were progressing, their chit chatting would be cut off with death should they not play H.R and get down to fix the problems within this floor...

"Come on, big sis. Tock and I will help you once again, so long as our deal stands."

Distinguished Sophomore Researcher (MIT)

Level-IV Technical Support (MIT)

YzpFdSm.png

After they gathered a few researchers running about like headless chickens on Level-III, the groaning Sven helped the group navigate to a nondescript closet. Inside, he had the biggest muscles among them, including Clarissa smash the floor apart and bore a human-sized hole so they could crawl their way down to Level-IV.

Although the first stretch of the crawl was tiring, the last stretch downward was steam filled. Clarissa who led the pack sweat like a pig, her lungs burning from the wet heat. She fought through the discomfort and stored all of that suffering in her fists and punched the grate dispensing air into Level-IV.

The situation couldn't have looked worse. Steam hissed violently from ruptured pipes, scalding all the poor souls stumbling around in the near-impossible to see steam with only the obnoxiously red emergency lights overhead to find the shut-off valves. When they got to the control room, people were in a frenzy as they tried to override the overwatch system to regain access to the Central Stairwell. The frantic clicking of the console keys echoed as teams worked through the combinations, their faces lit by the eerie glow of the console. Every attempt was a gamble, a roll of dice against time and danger as the threat of Szofrit's awakening drew near.

"Sven, stay here with these guys. I'm going to head out to help find the shut off valves. Just work on overriding the thingy, alright?" Clarissa had to shout to be heard.

Sven nodded, hobbling over to the console where @Ueno Mizuki, @Tick Tock, and @Ronja Bubblyfoot.

"Here, let me help," Sven grunted words at the girls, his fingers flew over the tap interface, his brain overclocking. "Come on, don't shut papa out now… we need to go down to Level-V, or we're all going to die. Ah. Ha. Hahah."

Sven had a minor breakdown as he worked the machine.

Meanwhile, Clarissa plunged into the steam, gasping to expel all the gassy liquid her lungs were guzzling up as she explored the steam labyrinth, looking for the valves. They were so close to getting to where they need to… whether or not they can fight Szofrit a second time in their current state is a different matter altogether.

CLANG!!!

When Clarissa ran past a steam-hidden door, she heard the sound of something heavy dropping. Immediately pivoting into the room, she saw a burly fixer had passed out after checking a non-broken pipe. She immediately got to work in slinging him over her shoulder and rushed out of the room, intending on telling anyone she comes across that at least one of the valves have been shut.

"Hup! I got you big guy, come on, let's get back to the control room!" she pep-talked herself.

Cycle 4

PROGRESS
[ 1250 / 1250 ]

  • This objective can now be turned in at the end of the event thread.

  • Current Progress: 8/20
  • There are 20 combinations that must be tried. Use an action to roll 1d2 to see how many combinations you can go through before the console rejects you. Using a BA adds one more (1d3). Magitech rank C, B, A, S adds +1 (up to 1d7).
  • Take 20 damage after this encounter.
(Encounter D) Find the damaged pipe that is responsible for dumping heat into the entire Level-IV floor.
  • There are now 5 possible locations where the leakage could be, since they are too hot and too steamy, they are difficult to navigate to.
  • Use your action and roll 1d6 per 4 movements to reach the leakage. You will only reach the leak by rolling a 4.
  • If you have a racial trait enhancing your senses, or Hyper Sense, +1d4.

Lune pushed through the steam, the heat made it hard to even open her eyes, not that she could see anything from the steam or the heat haze. Relying on just hearing to find the source of the hissing pipe, she could slowly feel the pressure getting stronger than walking forward.

"Found one!"

Her hand suddenly found the broken pipe that was shooting high heat everywhere on the floor. And the pipe was flaming hot, so she couldn't touch it for long. Instead, she concentrated her magnetic power into the center of the pipe, causing it to slowly implode, crumple, and self-seal.

The noise stopped, and the room cooled down a bit.

"Alright, that's one pipe down."

The leak in this part of this level was taken care of, but she could still hear more hissing. After regenerating burn wounds on her skin, she continued along the hallway to find more leak sources.

Fiora lifted an arm over her features, covering face and eye alike as she pressed on through the steam, clad in sweat and burnt marks over her body where the wires had struck. Their time was running short, and she knew there were more than one person through these tunnels.

Elimination process left her with one tunnel left to check, determination running high as, at the distance, she could her the leakage crystal clear, up until she approached and noticed how severe the wreckage was. Glancing around the floor in search of anything worth using, pieces of collapsed ceiling gave view to support beams made out of metal, and so an idea came to mind.

Hopping up to grasp onto them, veins bulged as she planted her feet against the ceiling, groans and many pulls later hearing how the metal begun to give in and bend with a screech that announced it dropping, along herself, onto the ground with one loud thud. The pain was nothing in comparison to the suffocating heat within this fourth floor, but now with one metal beam on her hands, she could begin the process of patching up the leak...

Via wrapping the support beam like a pretzel on the gap. A solution that wouldn't last, sure, but probably would be enough for the time being. It wasn't until the fizzling noise of the pipe went quiet that she finally took a deep breath and leaned back against the nearest wall, shooking her head as she fought to stay awake.
