Ishtar lounged among the trees. She'd lingered there for some time and already the corruption had begun to spread. Nearly fifty square meters of trees had begun to succumb, turning dark blue as their leaves took on an eerie glowing hue. Her bare, glowing skin made her seem like a ghost as she languidly stretched in mid-air, her pink eyes gleaming like gemstones in the night. She twirled the crystal ball floating over her palm, changing the perspective it was viewing. Her eyes narrowed and her lip twisted into a smile.
Nearby, the four most impressive people she'd gathered thusfar had assembled. Her first prey stood closest to her,
Jacques was stoic as always, his grim eyes now hardened with resolve. He'd grown strong quickly after she had corrupted him. Next to him was
Teresa who's personality had grown a bit more aggressive since she'd become corrupted.
Niko was just past her, the UI-locked player staring at his knives thoughtfully. He glanced up in her direction and smiled.
She returned the smile and looked over at the last to join her inner circle. The man in robes from earlier who Niko's group had attacked.
Ephram had been a priest at one point, renouncing his faith in a god that never showed nor cared and instead putting his energy towards supporting a being that he could see for himself. The exhausted looking man had taken her interest immediately. He would be very useful.
"We have more children incoming, Teresa and Niko, return to the lake and have my Faerin prepare for more. I won't have a single lander in my care go hungry," She said quietly, returning her gaze to the ball.
"Jacques will stay with me, and Ephram?"
He turned and bowed, pressing his head to the ground. "I shall greet the newcomers, Pale Lady."
Her lips twitched upward,
"You know your role, my Priest. Go say hello for me, dearie. Bring them to me and I will personally lead them."
"Your interest in this group is..." Ephram said hesitantly before catching himself, "N-no! Forgive me, I shouldn't question your grace."
She tittered out a delighted laugh, dismissing the crystal ball and clapped,
"Oh Ephram! You poor thing! You've been repressed by that god of yours! You needn't be so frightened, ask me what you wish to ask, I don't bite, dearie!"
He swallowed and looked up, "Is there a Starcalled among them?"
Her smile widened even more and her glowing eyes sparkled with pride,
"My you are smart, yes, and she interests me quite a bit. Be polite. She might be useful..." She glanced over at Jacques who tensed up at the words,
"Don't be like that, Jacques. Why do you think I asked you to stay at my side? You never know with the Starcalled, but I have a good feeling about this one."
The hatchetman relaxed visibly and nodded, seemingly pleased that the Pale Lady had chosen him to stick close in case of emergency. Ephram sent a jealous look over in his direction before getting to his feet and bowing, the Priest quickly making his way through the trees with a pair of corrupted Faerin guiding him. She watched him go and cupped her face with her fingers, a flush coming to her cheeks, she bore her teeth and stared at his back.
"My oh my, Bluebird herself, what a treat!"
Ephram made his way through the trees of the region cleared by the corrupted faerin, not a single Goblin dared go into the area at this point. With the two wicked things guarding him he was satisfied that he could handle any trouble that might come his way. More importantly, he kept his head held high. He knew that she was always watching through her divination crystal. His weary face cracked into a smile as he looked down at his hand, power running through it. So this was 'Mastery'. To think the Starcalled were simply given this when they came into the world. Fate was cruel.
"Ahead! Ahead!" One of the wretched corrupted faerin giggled, pointing towards the trees. "There! There!"
Ephram straightend himself up and watched the dense foliage, in the distance he saw flashes of torchlight. Aha. He drew on his new powers, stepping forward and vanishing into the shadows. He reappeared just a little bit ahead of the group, waiting in the shade of the trees until the first couple of Landers spotted him. When they did he stepped out and leaned forward into a bow, bringing his hand up to his heart.
"Good day to you, I am Ephram, one of the Pale Lady's Archons and her first Priest. I've come to guide you the rest of the way, children of this world," He paused and looked into the crowd, "My Lady has informed me that among your group is a Starcalled. You are welcome to join us, but please be mindful while you are in her domain..."
Ishtar assembles her Archons and spots @Bluebird in her crystal ball, sending Ephram out to go meet with her and the landers so that they can be brought back to the Lake and the rest of her growing cult.
