MAI would say so herself. Creativity was important for just about anyone, and forsaking it was never a good decision. Although the Magia girl quickly started to wonder if Kyanna maybe had a bit too much of it after she started describing her thought process about the snake and the elephant. It honestly left her somewhat speechless, simply unable to find adequate words to respond with. Perhaps she was saved by the stranger that approached.

"So you are, I knew it right away! Ah, pardon me... you must have come here to relax and purchase some books, correct? I am terribly sorry to interrupt your free time, but... "

He looked around, almost nervously. It seemed that the atmosphere in the store grew a bit quieter, perhaps a lull after an influx of customers. His gaze returned to the two girls.

"I know this is hardly proper, but Tertoria is still largely isolated from the rest of the continent, and I cannot ask for anyone from the capital for... reasons. I... need some help from skilled undying Starcalled!"

The last phrase made MAI twitch a bit.

"If you have the time to help... would you go with me, to the back? It'll be better to explain away from regular customers."

"Refusal - We would like to help, but someone we are looking for might show up here. If we are in the back, we could miss them."

"O-oh..."

The man's pleading gaze fell onto Kyanna, something that MAI did not appreciate. She already knew that the witch would probably say it was fine, but... would it be, really?

Kyanna listened patiently to the man, confused about the secrecy of whatever he wished. When a request to go with him to the back of the bookstore came up, Kyanna was suprised when she barely had a second to answer before MAI simply cutted to the chase, claiming the current quest they were on.

The witch smiled awkwardly to the man, especially as he struck a pleading gaze.

"Aaahm..." She cleared her throat, glancing at MAI and then back at him, pondering for a moment before finally speaking.

"Maybe if it is quick enough? We are really waiting for someone important, so it should be very, very quick, mister." Kyanna said with honesty, wishing to help the man, but not wishing to lose the chance to potentially find her mother in this place.

There was also the curiosity of the girl regarding what exactly the man needed, especially when it was particularly to Starcalled.

MAI frowned and closer her eyes. It would be something different if there was a person in obvious distress, or if they came here specifically because of some request... but being picked up like this out of the blue certainly did not feel good. Especially given how much importance Kyanna seemed to be placing on the other person. Given the kind of store they were in, it briefly made the girl wonder if maybe the witch was looking for a long-lost lover, the two keeping their bonds despite immense distance between them and now finally having the chance to meet, yet unable to find each other easily.

"I am dreadfully sorry for all of this. The explanation won't take long, the rest... well, perhaps it could wait a day or two more... hopefully."

The way he said it all did not reassure the Magia, either. But as she got up, she at least let one of her drones fly out from beneath her clothes.

"Reassurance - This unit will leave a camera drone here to record the entrance. Kyanna can later watch the recording to see if the person entered or left the building while we were away."

It was a bit of an invasion of privacy, perhaps, but the governments of TerraSphere had not quite gone as far as those in the real world so no one could cry anything about unlawful activity. Leaving the small drone behind, MAI would wait for Kyanna to get up as well, the two following the man together.

Beyond the 'Employees only' door, he led them through a bit of a storage and then into a mostly empty small room. The only thing left was a table at the center, atop it a single book. The man stepped to the side and eyed the item with clear dread in his eyes.

"Before anything, I implore you to not speak of this to anyone... but I am at my wit's end. I am unable to get in contact with anyone strong enough from the capital, but I can't just leave this unattended to visit the adventurer's guild or a similar organization."

He briefly covered his mouth with the tip of his fingers, starting to sweat a little bit more as he tried to divulge the issue at hand.

"You see, when I first opened up... I had a rather unique customer. I only realized that he was... dissonant... much too late. He took a bulk of my books and I was able to recover only this one. But there is something wrong with it, I dare not do anything with it. That is why I require help of the Starcalled."

MAI eyed the book. She didn't know much about dissonance, only that it was affecting Magia of the Dragonship. Which wasn't a whole lot of information to work with.

"Query - Does kyanna know much about the dissonance? This unit possesses only limited amount of information."

Kyanna watched as MAI stood up and began working with her small constructs, widening her eyes and forming a small 'o' with her mouth as the magitech unfolded before her eyes. "That's amazing-" She grinned at the girl, tracing the drone with her eyes for a moment before she continued her path to follow the stranger, stepping into the 'Employers Only' room and casting a brief glance outside before the door closed behind her.

She didn't speak, letting the man start to voice his necessities.

A frown crossed her face at the mention of 'dissonance', and her gaze faltered, reminding herself of her fight against the 'Taxmen'.

While not bearing that much knowledge about the topic, Kyanna still turned to MAI, responding her question: "I am not very knowledgeable on it either... I've heard Magi, a friend of mine, talking about it before, and..." Her gaze lowered. "All I know is that people called Star Maiden destroy and purify it... But.. I'm unsure of what it is."

Her eyes then shifted to the man, voicing her own questions-

"Can you tell us more about this dissonance? We can't fight something we don't know." Kyanna asked, both curious and uncertain.

The store owner nodded fervently as the Star Maiden was mentioned. Though this physical enthusiasm was not matched by the attitude present in his voice.

"Yes, that is correct. Unfortunately, I dare not seek her and her aid... dissonance is capable of spreading. I am confident that I have contained it here, but the Maiden would likely not take any risks and would reduce this whole building to rubble, if not the whole village! I simply cannot allow that..."

Fidgeting with his robes, he looked all kinds of nervous. Especially when Kyanna asked him to disclose what dissonance was in greater detail.

"I fear that an ordinary citizen such as myself will not be able to provide an adequate description... but it originates from directly beneath us. From Calamity Deep. While the entire area is sealed by a barrier, some seem to leak here and there... and it twists, transforms both living beings and inanimate objects in some way."

"Observation - Sounds similar to Zalrisis, the crystal disease."

MAI interjected. She never came into direct contact with Zalrisis either, but she heard plenty about it. Primarily that it was especially lethal to Magia. As such, she kept quite a bit of distance between herself and the land of Zalra, at least for the time being.

"Worry - Can dissonance be beaten without the aid of the aforementioned Star Maiden?"

"I... don't know. But I do know that if anyone can help me with this, it would be someone capable of miraculous feats so beyond our imagination - such as surviving one's own death - the Starcalled!"

While the explanation regarding what Dissonance was somewhat vague, Kyanna couldn't help but feel chills at the explanation. The names sounded rather threatening, and the tone of the man's voice made her chest feel tight about it, as if it was something direly urgent.

Her gaze shifted toward MAI as she mentioned Zalrisis, something that made Kyanna frown in confusion, unsure of what exactly 'Zalrisis' was. Upon so many new terms and words, she could only be clueless and scared about the mysterious aspect it had... But she also couldn't ignore that apparently people were in danger due to it.

"So... Dissonance is like an illness?" Kyanna pursed her lips. "I'm unsure of how much we can do about it, but... If it is regarding corruption..." Kyanna's eyes shifted to MAI, and then back at the man. "I may have some abilities related to it." She admitted, resting a hand on her chest. "It is part of my powers, I may be able to understand it."

As Kyanna disclosed that her powers were, at least in some part, connected to the concept of corruption, MAI's eyes widened in surprise. The storekeeper, on the other hand, was nothing short of delighted by the promise of possibly dealing with his issue.

"Oh, I knew it was a good choice to rely on you, Starcalled. I shan't get in your way... the book is yours to fiddle with... er, as long as you don't spread the dissonance from it to the rest of the store, I mean..."

Taking a few steps back, it was the Magia that overtook the spotlight now. She had... a few questions in regard to what the witch had just said.

"Query - Kyanna possesses the power of corruption? That is a dangerous power..."

Getting closer, it was almost as if she was looking over the raven-colored girl to see if there was anything wrong with her body at all.

"Worry - Has this power had any negative impact on Kyanna..?"

Kyanna offered the man a faint smile, noticing how much more relieved the man was, even upon such a dramatic reveal. She didn't give it much thought, however, knowing he wouldn't take ill of her truth. And knowing of course, that she could trust even the biggest of her secrets to MAI.

The concerned questions and expressions of her friend made Kyanna blink, turning to face her for a moment. "Dangerous?" She giggled, faintly. "I've heard it. But it can be used in very beneficial ways... At least from what I've read, and how I've been using it... It comes with a price, but it doesn't matter." She handwaved the issue, and took both of MAI's hands, looking at the magia girl with a wider grin.

"You worry too much about me, you shouldn't!" She said, in a slightly scolding tone, not wishing MAI to spend so much of her mind on her.

"But... I appreciate it. For caring so much about me." Kyanna squeezed her hands, and trailing her eyes toward the door. "I do wonder if we will be able to work around it right away though, if it is something that usually only a Star Maiden can deal with..."

The normally neutral expression of a stoic Magia twisted into a bit of a frown. Even if Kyanna wanted it all to be dismissed, it wasn't like she could just say something to magically make it be so.

"Concern - The idea of a mastery and regularly used abilities coming with a 'price' is more than a little worrisome. It is ill-advised to take such matters lightly."

While it was a sweet moment between the two girls, the shop owner felt a bit more awkward witnessing such a thing. Clearing his throat, he clapped his hands together.

"U-um! To make you feel a bit more comfortable, how about I bring you some tea and snacks, might make your work more pleasant? Yes, yes, I'll be back in a moment-!"

Not even giving either of them enough time to stop him, he stormed out of the room and closed the door behind himself. So now it seemed that they were here for a bit longer.

MAI sighed briefly, her eyes going in the opposite direction of Kyanna's, eyeing the book once more. It looked... normal enough? The witch did bring up a good point. How did one combat dissonance without any special powers? Surely the local people must have had some success, given that they had no army of Star Maidens to keep everyone and everything safe at all times.

"Suggestion - As much as this unit despises the idea, perhaps Kyanna could examine the book using her mastery to see if she'll establish any kind of connection?"

Kyanna couldn't help but just keep a faint smile on her face as MAI continued to worry. She could, of course, understand where her friend was coming from, yet she was very sure she could handle that power, as long as she didn't go too far with it... Or didn't dare to cross any line that she shouldn't.

"It is alright, Mai... I will take care of it." She nodded, with a reassuring expression. "... If I ever go too far, I know I can trust on you to help me out, so I know it will be fine." Kyanna was confident about it.

The witch's gaze then trailed to the man leaving, perhaps a bit hurriedly as Kyanna paused and turned back to MAI.

"That was my plan, Mai! And I'm sure that it will be fine..." She said, handwaving the consequences of using such a power. "My corruption should be enough to get all the clues we need to solve this riddle."

While Kyanna wasn't wrong, given that MAI would not hesitate to go ahead and help the witch if anything bad had ever happened, that didn't mean the whole scenario was any less concerning. The Magia would have preferred it much more that her friend exchanged corruption for a different mastery to avoid the potential situation where she would require aid entirely. But it seemed that this was not in the stars, so the mechanical girl could only let out a faint sigh and nod.

Somewhat ironically, that very power was about to send the two girls on quite the adventure. With Kyanna deciding to try things out and pull some clues out of the book, the dissonance would react. As soon as the witch's hand made contact with the cover, dissonant energy would consume the entire room. Or perhaps the two girls were merely sucked in? All that mattered was that the walls, the ceiling, and the floor that contained them before were suddenly gone, replaced by a whirling energy of dark, bleak colors.

They weren't just falling, either. It was disorienting, almost as if they were rapidly spinning in circles even as their bodies remained still. Thankfully, this state did not last all that long. The portal would spit them out, and the two girls would enter a true free fall, high above the ground, surrounded by white clouds. As soon as MAI's sensors returned to normal functionality after that turmoil, she started frantically searching for Kyanna, who wasn't too far away from her.

"Cyberangel protocol!"

The girl's frantic command was accompanied by a tearing sound as two holes suddenly appeared in the clothing she was wearing, right around her scapulas. Countless blue plates flew out through the shredded holes to form two large glowing wings. With how fast they were falling, MAI was worried about what negative effects any changes to gravity could have on the both of them, so she instead spread the wings to gradually slow their fall until they were too close to the ground.

Flapping the wings forward, she instead wrapped them around Kyanna to form a shield before they made contact. It was not the most comfortable of cushions, but they were slowed down enough to receive only a few bruises here and there upon landing. Although the damage to the wings themselves was a bit more substantial. Thankfully that was something MAI could fix easily later on. But, perhaps the bigger question was where in the world they were at the moment.

Desert of Rememberance
Dissonant Tales

"Query - Is Kyanna alright..?"

MAI's first words were those of concern as she tried to get up, quickly examining the girl lying below her. But as soon as the immediate worry was chased away, she couldn't help but look around them. The environment was... considerably different from the fancy and cozy store they were in just mere moments ago. Instead, a seemingly infinite desert stretched around them in every direction. Perhaps they were lucky, then, that they appeared to have landed right next to an oasis.

A beautiful body of water with a small amount of vegetation around it. But that was not the only marvel visible, either. Right next to it, half buried in the orange sand was a modern plane. One that a person could see in the physical world, but definitely not inside of Terrasphere. No amount of magitech could produce such a machine, even if the caster had the necessary knowledge. It might have been the sudden heat from a scorching sun, but MAI stumbled around as if she was beyond bewildered.

"S-statement... This unit... thinks we might have been transported into the story of The Little Prince."

Things turned chaotic in a blink of an eye.

The touch of the book came with a strange feeling, alien and terrifying in an eerie way that Kyanna couldn't quite pinpoint. Perhaps that was the said dissonance...

Kyanna reached out, trying to get into contact with the source of the problem, using her own corruption to try and touch the core of the 'infection', until everything suddenly turned rogue. Fear sank into Kyanna's heart, with her emotions amplyfing immensely as she nearly felt her heart leap out of her throat, struggling to make head and tails of what was going on.

"MAAAI!" She called for her friend, unable to find her as she flailed until they were in their free fall.

Dread ran through her veins as she could only see the ground approaching rapidly, with breath and heartbeat pounding heavily in her chest as she struggled to try and reach for Mai, who neared her with magical wings that soon wrapped the witch, as she braced herself.

Eventually, they finally went straight to the ground, with an impact that made Kyanna lose her breath, taking a moment to recover from the impact that thanks to the magia, wasn't deadly.

"A-Aaah..." She struggled, looking at MAI above her, barely listening to her question.

"I... I am alright, Mai... Thanks to you..." Kyanna winced, getting on her butt as she stood up. "A-And you, are you alright?" She returned the question with just as much concern, until MAI revealed the potential problem they were about to face.

Kyanna's eyes grew widely, with worry panging in her chest.

"I... No... Mai, I..."
It was her fault, she shouldn't have meddled with the book. "I am sorry, Mai. I didn't know this would happen." She frowned her lips, looking at her friend apologetically.

Recalling what was left of the wings to ensure they would not get in the way later on, MAI looked around once more before her gaze quickly fell back onto Kyanna. The witch might have been doing fine physically, but it appeared that she wasn't taking this little flub very well. The Magia made sure to quickly shuffle herself over and, almost mimicking Kyanna's previous behavior with MAI, grabbed the other girl's hand with both of hers and gently squeezed it.

"Reassurance - This unit is in a fully functional state, Kyanna doesn't have to be afraid. There was no way to predict something like this would happen, so Kyanna should not put any blame on herself."

They were still together, weren't they? Surely that was all that really mattered in a situation like this. As long as they stayed together, they would figure a way out eventually.

"Observation - Dissonance must have twisted the book and transformed the tale within into its own world we have fallen into. Perhaps following the story will lead to an exit."

She squeezed the other girl hand a bit again.

"Proposal - This unit will protect Kyanna if any danger comes."

Kyanna's apologetic and scared gaze shifted to MAI as soon as the other girl took a hold of her hand. Her eyes were sparkling faintly with pre-tears, feeling the weight of what could be a potential terrible mistake that could get both of them stuck in a world inside of another world. Yet, the magia's reassuring words calmed her down for a moment, making her pause and breath, partially recovering as she listened to MAI's observations.

"I... Y-You are right, yes... We should just keep going." Kyanna shook her head, taking a quivering breath as she stood up, looking around with uncertainty, until her hand was squeezed one last time, with a proposal that made Kyanna's emotions soften for a moment.

"Mai..." Kyanna muttered, smiling faintly. "It is mutual, if anything happens, I will do everything I can to keep you safe, I promise." She said, firmly.

They were going to leave that place. They had to!

With Kyanna slowly calming down, so did MAI. This situation was far from ideal, but TerraSphere liked to throw such situations around like candy, or so it felt like. If she got through everything up until this point, there was no reason why she wouldn't be able to get through this as well. And the witch's affirmation that they would protect each other made the girl smile, too.

"Understood - We shall protect each other. Observation... we have landed near an oasis. This means we have access to drinkable water, at the very least. And that plane..."

Looking in the distance, it really was sticking out like a sore thumb. Such a modern piece of technology shouldn't exist in this game, yet here it was. And, if the two girls were quiet for a moment, they could hear voices coming from around the wreckage as well. MAI knew the story, so she was aware of what this meant... but given the fact that the book was dissonant, she was a bit reluctant.

"Proposal - Let's be quiet and see what is going on over there."

Taking hold of Kyanna's hand, the Magia wouldn't hesitate to lead the both of them to some stones and bushes that they could hide behind while slowly peeking over to see who those voices belonged to.

"As I said, I've crashlanded here and have to fix my plane before I run out of supplies!"

"Why?"

"Because I will die if I run out of supplies, obviously!"

"Why?"

"Because people die when they are killed or starved."

"Why?"

"You little...!"

Kyanna's gaze rested gently on MAI's, with a warmth growing on her cheeks and on her smile. Even if there was still a hint of fear lingering in her heart, it would be fine, after all she had MAI with her.

After the small observation of the magia, Kyanna looked around, noticing the sources of water and slipping a sigh of relief. "Well, that's not a problem then. I can produce food with my magic." She said, confident that her spells would be enough to bring some provisons to the table.

Her attention then finally went to the plane, exchange a glance with MAI and listening to her idea before nodding. "Alright-" She muttered, letting MAI guide her by the hand as she did her best to keep up.

It took a moment for Kyanna to understand what was going on, but the exchange between the two strangers made Kyanna tilt her head, turning to MAI as she whispered. "They sound troubled... I think that we may be able to help them..." She said, pursing her lips.

"What do you think? We can't just leave them in here."

It was good to know that with Kyanna around, the two of them would not starve. Granted, MAI hoped they wouldn't actually be here long enough for that to be necessary. Given that the book they were inside of right now was dissonant, they had to leave as soon as possible to ensure there would be no negative side effects from being in the presence of such chaotic and dark magic.

As they observed the two individuals ahead of them, Kyanna somewhat predictably decided that they should help the strangers. And while the machine girl was rather hesitant, it was true that they'd probably have to be proactive if they wanted to get out of here.

"Understood... Kyanna should stay behind this unit. That way, defensive measures can be deployed easily if necessary."

Those two ahead of them looked harmless enough, but there was no way to tell in a place like this. Leaving their hiding spot slowly, MAI would let the black witch follow closely behind as they approached. Sure enough, the two strangers noticed the approaching pair very quickly once out of their hiding place.

"Huh? And what's this, even more annoying gremlins..?"

"Hm? Who, who?"

"Why are you looking at me?! Ask them, not me!"

The girl was small, clearly a child well younger than MAI and Kyanna. Her dark hair reached nearly all the way down her back, and a small golden crown rested on her head, not quite matching the rather ordinary brown dress she wore. Rather cheerfully, she hopped and skipped toward the other two girls, causing MAI to enter a more defensive stance. Though the little girl didn't seem to be bothered by it at all, pausing and tilting her head to the side.

"Hey, hey! Who are you, who are you~?"

MAI paused for a moment, casting a glance toward Kyanna before coming up with a bit of an excuse.

"Answer - Visitors from a distant land. You may address this unit as MAI."

Kyanna nodded briefly at @MAI's statement, staying close to her friend, but not taking the front line just yet. She did know MAI had far more defensive capabilities than she had, and even if she felt a little bad that her friend had to be so protective of her, she knew she would be far more useful in the support zone if things blew up.

She kept a gentle hold on MAI's sleeve as they approached, with the initial encounter being something that truly felt out straight out of a book.

The two persons in front of them were so uncharacteristic to each other, it was a little funny. Well, funny until Kyanna realized she looked like a traditional witch, and she had a robot girl as a friend.

With MAI's excuse being pulled, Kyanna stepped in, taking a quick glance at the duo, and then at the crown on the top of the girl's head before she cleared her throat and released her grip from MAI's sleeve, resting a hand over her chest.

"I am Kyanna Wynne, witch queen of the Fungilands, a distant land you were told-" Kyanna said, perhaps sounding a little theatrical. "- I've opened a magical circle to try and multiply soup for my famine people, but it turned out I was sent flying into a twisted dimension, before I was saved by this lovely robot-" She rested her hands on MAI's shoulder. "- that while very brave and smart, is just as lost as me-" Kyanna shook her head.

"I see you have a crown. You are probably of royal blood just as I am..." She said, offering a hand. "... Perhaps we could unite strength to find a way to find our path back home, with the help of your overly-grump servant, that seems to have a highly accute navigation abilities, despite managing to crash a plane!"

MAI had left Kyanna's introductions up to herself. For one, it was always better when someone could introduce themselves however they wanted, and two, MAI just wasn't good at introducing others. That said, she expected the witch to present herself as normal. So when the sudden declaration of queenhood and soup sprung up, the magia couldn't help but stare at her companion in bemused stupor. Was she... a theatre kid at school?

The pilot merely shook his head and covered his face with his gloved hands briefly, letting out a sigh of frustration. It was as if he was silently judging them all for the performance, wondering how he got to be surrounded by weirdos who talked way too much. The girl, on the other hand, was positively estatic about the whole situation, suddenly dancing around the pair and looking at them from whichever side as if to measure them up after that grand story.

"Hahaha, a mushroom soup queen! Even if yer a queen, I'm better! I am a Little Princess, but a princess of a whoooole planet!"

The introduction gave MAI a bit of a pause before the girl pointed a finger at her.

"You talk silly, what fun! More fun than that old fart over there, he doesn't even answer my questions!"

The pilot nearly popped a vein when he was called old, trying to stop the ground, but the sand made little sound. While his anger remained silent thanks to that, he still had some words for the princess.

"Hah! You're one to talk... doing anything other than helping, you brat. I bet that you wouldn't even be able to answer my question if I asked you!"

As the two argued, MAI leaned toward Kyanna and whispered.

"Warning - This is very strange. Instead of Little Prince we have Little Princess and the pilot is supposed to be very friendly. Dissonance must have flipped this tale upside down..."

Kyanna stared as the Little Princess hopped around, being as lively as one would expect from a child and seeming to make it a competition of who was grander.

The witch giggled, and her eyes.

Before she could say much, however, an argument broke between the two strangers, and @MAI's words caught her attention. "So that's the kind of thing Dissonance does, huh..." She muttered back, frowning. "... The name is self-explanatory, after all..." Kyanna added, before clearing her throat and clasping her hands together, trying to string the attention of both of them.

"A little Princess of a whole planet? We are lucky then!" Kyanna chirped, tapping her totally-not-a-broomstick staff.

"This means you know everything about the planet, right? Just like any royalty would know of their kingdom!" Kyanna pointed out, raising an index. "Why don't we do it like this..." She said. "... We help to fix the plane of your grumpy-servant." She gestured to the plane.

"And both of you find our way out!" Kyanna suggested.
