The way Kyra explained away the style of her weapon actually surprised Fina. "Huh… that sounds surprisingly… err, how to say… brutal? At least for a healer, heh." To have someone dedicated to aiding and healing others be themed after the grim reaper was almost like something went horribly wrong. Or perhaps the other girl originally wanted to be doing something else and just so panned out to end as a support rather than a dps player?

Either way, the feline was quick to move her hand and pat the fox's head. It wasn't just the explanation of the weapon, the way she talked afterward was also a bit strange. Or, rather than strange, Fina could sense uneasiness. She had gotten surprisingly good at reading others when they would talk like this, one to one. So while they were slowly walking some distance behind the golems, the girl stopped for a brief moment to face her fox friend.

"Hey… are you okay? Your voice is shaking… I'm sorry, was that experience so bad? I didn't think they would start moving so fast… if you need a moment to calm down, we can easily wait, those golems are slow when just wandering somewhere!" In addition to this, Fina would open up her arms and take half a step forward, trying to appear inviting. "If you want a hug to calm down, we can do that too!"

She might have misunderstood why Kyra suddenly started acting the way she did, but she wanted to calm the fox in some way. Her experience with a fellow feline beastfolk had taught her that physical contact was often a very good and quick way to calm down, so that was the first thing she had offered.

Kyra

She felt herself almost purring at the headpats, the hand carressing the spot behind her ears, as if the other was unaware. She shook herself gently when the petting stopped, almost disappointed with the hand moving away.

Kyra smiled as the other tried to figure out the reason for her distress - guessing that the experience had somehow overwhelmed her; brought fear upon her. She found herself smiling and slowly shaking her head in response, her answer coming out halfway before the offer of the hug arrived.

"Oh, no it's not that at all. I'm used to com- I love hugs!"

Before the other could react, Kyra had pounced, leaping into the arms of the other girl and squeezing her tight for a few seconds, before releasing the other and stepping back - beaming smile declaring her enjoyment of the physical contact. Her previous hesitation gone, Kyra turned and skipped ahead, calling back as she chased after the golems.

"If you want more of that, you'll have to catch up! We're losing your quarry, by the way."

She giggled as she continued skipping, guessing that she had - most likely - confused the other player with her sudden change. There was still a bit of hesitation, and doubt in her mind - but the way Fina was acting was more than enough to solidify for Kyra that the other girl was alright. She doubted that even if Kyra had caused any sort of wasted time, that the other would be mad.

She came to a slow stop as she realised that the golems had changed their course, turning slightly to the left - towards a small collection of hills that somehow carried an almost ominous feeling, at least to Kyra. She waited for the other to catch up, before nodding towards the new destination.

"Something tells me we'll find the end of this joly jaunt in there. Something about the place feels...off. Let's just be...well, careful..."

It was nice when people were chipper and active. That kind of presentation often brought along happy thoughts as well. Fina felt that it was natural to want everyone to be happy, at least to some degree. It was the exact same with Kyra, who definitely seemed to be a little down until the moment hugs were mentioned. The transition in her behavior was so sudden and jarring that it made the feline jolt a bit, her ears and tail standing up in shock.

Once that initial surprise wore off, however, she would embrace the fox back for a moment before they separated again. While it was nice that the other girl was back to being chipper, Fina would have liked a bit of an explanation. Or to not have to chase after anyone. "H-hey, wait!" Jogging after her, she wore a smile herself. Even though they were on a bit of a quest that would likely involve fighting and dangers, this felt nice.

Slowing down once she got back to walking alongside Kyra, the feline would fixate on the golems in the distance. They were indeed going in a different direction than before, which made things look pretty promising. "Mm, I suppose so. Before we go, then, is there anything else that I should know? Your healing taking away your own life force was a rather unpleasant surprise, and I would rather avoid having any more of those while we're dealing with whatever we will find there."

The girl had invested a lot into her enhanced senses, so there was no way they would lose the golems even if they walked slower again. So before they would head out, she really wanted to make sure that Kyra was prepared and wasn't hiding something from Fina that could potentially throw either one of them off in a critical moment.

She turned to the other, stopping on the spot as she did so. Her ear cocked slightly to the left as her tail slowly swished behind her, considering any other surprises she may have. Quietly, as if thinking aloud, she listed everything she could think of within her capabilities.

"Well...I have my scythe, but that's not really a surprise...healing I do mostly through the Spirit magic, which is, well...yeah...uhm, there's the hemomancy too. Not that that is super surprising...otherwise no surprises that I know of..."

She felt her brow furrow as she considered, before she suddenly lit up with excitement again, a beaming smile on her face.

"Oh! I know a surprise! I'm super cute and irresistible!"

Giggling at her own joke, she turned back the way that she had been heading, waving a hand to Fina as she continued walking, throwing a casual call back.

"Come on, we're gonna lose them if we stick around here too long. Besides, if you stand there staring at me too long, you might forget all about the golems! And that would be bad, right?"

She smiled to herself at her own joke, pleased with how she was handling the situation. If only I could do this in the real world, too. Wouldn't that be an absolute miracle? She shoved the thought aside, knowing it was just her own doubts, nothing to be troubled about right now. Besides, she needed to focus.

She could see the golems scurrying into the distance, quickly making their way into a small groove that clearly cut its way into the centre of the hills themselves. Kyra slowed, waiting for the feline to catch up. With a wave of her hand, she gestured towards their destination.

"Ladies first? I'm more of a...err...in the back area type."

Fina didn't exactly want the other girl to list off her whole inventory and skill list, but oh well. It really didn't seem like any unpleasant secrets were waiting to be discovered in the middle of combat. That said, the feline also didn't expect the fox to be such a… flirt? Was she picking up the right signals there? Shaking her head, she tried to banish the thought that the fox was attempting to flirt with her while they were trying to solve a problem here. "Right, let's just focus on the golems then."

The girl had no issues with taking the lead. It was her mission, after all. Kyra was still just tagging along out of her own goodwill and really didn't have to. She had the option of leaving at any moment as well. All that aside, as the two girls observed the golems head toward the clearing, they would suddenly just… disappear. As if the game had despawned them for no reason, one moment they were there and the other, they were just gone. "Wha-"

Somewhat perplexed, Fina would speed up and quickly spring up to the spot where they had vanished, only to feel something. "What is going on here? Kyra, stay behind me, just in case…" Putting her hands in front of her, she walked forward and 'pushed' against whatever it was that they could not see. There was resistance, almost as if she was trying to submerge herself in some very thick liquid… but then she pushed through. It was a barrier that made everything inside of it invisible from the outside!

Monolith of Animosity
ᛞᚨᛚᛖᛏ

In the middle of the clearing was a large floating structure with glowing blue markings, clearly magical in origin. As it pulsated energy, new golems would be created around it, meaning that they had found what was responsible for all the trouble. The only question now was: Could they possibly destroy it? And, perhaps more pressingly, why was such a thing even here in the first place? It was unlikely that they would find an answer right now.

Kyra presumably followed Fina inside of the barrier, as from her point of view, it would have looked as if the cat girl had literally dissipated into the air right in front of her as she said that she encountered some resistance. "I think we better destroy that thing as quickly as possible! The golems might get in the way, though… stay close so we can protect each other!" Sure enough, both the stone constructs they have followed here, and the newly created one, would start slowly moving toward the player duo.

The monolith crackled with energy, and it was clear that some form of magic was present inside of it, capable of bringing life forth through the medium of rocks. It also did not want to be destroyed, controlling the golems and creating a defensive line. As the monolith itself appeared to be made out of some rather hefty rocks, Fina summoned a large battle axe to ready herself for some heavy hits. This would not be easy…

She raced after the catgirl, trying to keep up with her new partner as they made their way after the golems. Something ahead caught Fina's attention, causing the girl to pause in what Kyra could only assume was confusion. She'd missed whatever Fina had seen, and walked up beside the other.

"Something wrong? What did you...okay and we're off again, that's fine."

The other had continued forward before Kyra could even begin to start her question in earnest. Shrugging internally to herself, she carried on after the other. They made it to a specific point in the centre of the area before they came to another stop, prompting Kyra's questioning again.

"Alright...we're here now, but where are the golems? They must be here somewh-"

Mid-sentence, Fina walked forward and disappeared from sight. Kyra felt her mouth hang open as she tried to comprehend what had just occurred.

"Okay...that doesn't happen every day. Uh. Invisibility spell, maybe? Or perhaps some sort of barrier? Maybe a magical field! I wonder..."

She stepped up to the area, feeling the resistance as she came closer. Taking a deep breath, she forced her way through the barrier, finding herself side-by-side with Fina. Her eyes moved from the catgirl, to the giant monolith directly ahead of them.

"Uh...what is that?"

The thing destroying the golems. It became obvious after a few seconds - and after Fina had confirmed what Kyra's eyes had belatedly figured out. Now they just had to...wait, what?

"How are we supposed to destroy that? Do you have some sort of secret magical monolith destroying ability that I don't know about, because I got nothing of the sort..."

She sighed, deciding that questioning things wasn't getting them anywhere. Instead, she did the one thing she thought might help them in the instance - turning to her magical capabilities. She began speaking, laying a hand on Fina's shoulder.

"I provide you with what gifts my soul has to offer, may they allow you to strike true and without fear."

She felt the squeak leave her throat as the Spirit magic took affect, slicing a piece of her and passing it on to her target.

So Kyra had followed her through the barrier, which was good. After seeing what they were facing, Fina didn't fancy her chances being alone. Well, she would have probably gotten through somehow, but at what cost to her health? Looking back over her shoulder, she shot her new healer a smirk as she bobbed the greataxe in her hand up and down. "How? By hitting it REALLY hard!" It was half-joke and half-true. Since the feline did not have any real magical attacks, she could only measure her physical force against it.

She assumed the same about Kyra, only with the logic that a healer probably did not have many offensive abilities. That aside, the fox was already showcasing her supporting power as energy flowed through her hand directly into Fina's body. Not a small amount of energy either, it was almost overwhelming. "Whoa-!" She was confident in her strength before, but now her body felt like it could break down just about anything with her bare fists. Still, she would use her weapons… just 'cause! "Alright, take a step back! Hey, uglies! All eyes on me!"

Taunting (taunt)

As all of the golems fixated on the girl and started approaching, she would firmly plant her feet on the ground and then put all of her strength into the attack. She would spin once, twice, then thrice, and finally throw her weapon. With all of the momentum, it was almost like a massive boomerang that tore through the approaching stone constructs, easily cleaving them all apart before the axe would continue on and embed itself in the monolith. It did not destroy it, of course, but it left a giant gash as it dissipated a few seconds later. "There! We can do it if I just keep the pressure up, so back me up, okay?"

Her ears twitched as the girl rushed forward, slamming the great axe into the giant monolith with a sound that seemed to echo in Kyra's ears. It seemed simple enough, smack the thing long enough and it likely would break apart - and seeing as that's where the golems were all coming from, well...

"Alright...well, I can't let you just do this all alone, right?"

She flashed a smile as she pulled her scythe into her hand, the main weapon held in her left, and the chain balanced loosely in her right, the dagger on its end swaying in the air.

A quick moment to check her surrounding, before she rushed forwards towards the monolith, dodging in between the few small golems still on the ground before leaping up towards the giant rock-thing. Spinning in the air, she brought her scythe around in a wide arc, using the momentum of her rush, as well as the added spin, in order to slash across the front of the thing. A few sparks flew as her blade dug into the monolith slightly, before she was sailing past and moving on ground again.

"Fina! Quick! Slam it while it's stunned! We gotta end this quick, before we get too tired out!"

Retal damage countered

The level of acrobatic prowess Kyra suddenly showcased with her little stunt was rather impressive. Especially after what was displayed when they first encountered the small golems. Was the girl secretly much better than she portrayed herself as to keep the people around her guessing? Anything was possible, Fina supposed. Either way, the fox was right - they had to strike the strange monolith down as soon as possible. It wasn’t able to keep up with the production of smaller golems for now, but there was no guarantee that’d keep up.

“Alright, get to the side!” They still didn’t know if their enemy could do anything other than spawn more mobs, so it was best to keep some distance. Conjuring countless swords all around her, the feline would swiftly gesture forward and let her arcanamancy proper all of the weapons forward, their sharpened blades digging into the stone surface. Not all of them made it, simply bouncing off of the hard surface, but many created even more gashes that started breaking the monolith apart. It was still holding, but it was obvious that it was starting to give. “Alright, let’s keep this up!”

Going well so far...just gotta keep...The thought was lost as she felt herself stumble slightly, dodging to the right around one of the smaller golems that had charged towards her. There was no time to worry about the little creatures - the monolith was their target, and she needed to focus on bringing it down. Fina needed her help with that, as strong as the other player was - besides, it wasn't like there was anything else to do right now anyways, right?

Catching herself and pushing forwards, she chased around the far side of the monolith, drawing her scythe across the thing as she circled it slightly, before sliding to a stop a distance away from it - directly across from where Fina and herself had entered the area to begin with.

"I think this thing is almost done...come on, we can finish it off! Just a bit more!"

Her call seemed to bring attention to herself, as the small golem creatures suddenly turned towards her, stepping slowly in her direction. Bringing her scythe up to her left side, and swinging the chain gently in her right, a smile spread across her face.

"Fine...come and get me you tiny little stone creatures. I won't go down easily though."

-40 HP from Retal (Vulnerable)

With the golem cracking in several different spots, it was clear that their victory was near! The power gained from Kyra's boon was slowly fading away, so it was a good idea to put everything Fina had into one last attack that would hopefully finish the enemy off. And with the scythe-wielder drawing the aggro of all the small golems that were freshly spawned, the feline even had the necessary space to do just that! Firmly planting her feet on the ground and checking her position, she breathed in and then breathed out.

A giant war hammer manifested in her hands, easily as long as she was tall. With all the cracks, the monolith's structure integrity must have been compromised to some degree now. If she could just apply enough crushing force, she would surely be able to break it fully. Opening her eyes, there was a glare in the golden orbs as she suddenly sprinted forth, leaping high into the air and filling both her body and the weapon with as much energy and downward force as she could possibly manage. The flat head of the hammer collided with the top of the monolith.

❰ Mystic Forge • Fortress Breaker ❱

A loud thundering roar washed over the entire battlefield as the two near-unbreakable objects collided. The shockwave generated might have even been enough to send both the small golems and Kyra herself flying for a bit. Sure enough, after a moment, it became apparent who was the winner in that clash. Even more, large cracks started forming on all sides of the monolith, making the structure crumble. Going down with it, Fina rolled through all the rubble, obtaining a few bruises in the process, as she went out the other side and rolled onto the ground.

"That… might have been a bit too much…" Empowered by Kyra, Fina didn't think she could perform such a feat. The monolith lay shattered, obliterated, even. And with it, all the smaller golems ceased to function. As the feline tried to get back up to a sitting position, she winced a few times. "Ugh, whole body hurts…" Then she looked over at her companion fox, Kyra. "Hey… I thought you were a healer… you did almost as much damage to that thing as me before that final attack. And to think you felt the need to run from the small ones before…"

The sudden burst of energy had cascaded from the golem, Kyra's focus on the small ones trying to surround her - pulling her attention from the larger threat for just moments. Moments that had clearly been long enough to cause her to miss whatever the monolith had done.

She'd spiraled, sliding across the ground in a tumble as the force of the monolith's attack had tossed her like a mere child's toy, before eventually coming to a stop. Her head ringing in a way that wasn't from any sound, Kyra lay there for a breath, trying to collect herself.

Golems...still a threat... She forced herself to her knees at the thought, using the small hilt of the scythe in order to push herself upwards. What she saw, wasn't a swarm of golems rushing towards her, or the overbearing presence of the monolith. Instead, she saw the feline standing over top of her, smiling down, her lips moving as though she was speaking.

"What?"

The question rang in her ears as she tried to figure out what the girl was saying, the hit on her head clearly doing more to her than a simple bit of dizziness.

"Healer...yeah...I'm a healer...err...but I also...well, I'm the Grim Reaper, after all..."

She forced herself to her feet, passing a shakey smile at the feline as she swayed before her, scythe in her left hand, the chain wrapped loosely around her right, tingling as it swung slightly.

"That was something else...eh?"

Well, so much for all that. As Fina stood above Kyra, the felis realized that her healer was rather out of it and failed to witness the grand finale of the fight. It made the girl paused for a moment as the thought crept into her head - no one had witnessed her super cool finishing attack. It was her first time being able to do something like that, hell, it was the first skill she gave any name to. And yet, the only other person around did not even see it, or registered it in any way. It made the girl hang her head in shame.

At least Kyra appeared to be fine, even able to get back up on her own. There were no obvious injuries on her, unlike Fina, so clearly she managed to keep all of the golems off of her. "Grim Reaper, huh... what a dedication to a bit." Looking back at the shattered monolith, the girl sighed. At least the job was done. "I suppose it was. But that's the source of the golems dealt with, unless there's more around... Guess i'll have to hang around the local farms for a while longer to see if any golems show up."

Then it hit her. They didn't solve Kyra's problem at all, did they? "Ah, er... I guess we can go report to my employer now? He's a local Lander, so he should be able to point you toward the village you're looking for"

Kyra's gaze followed Fina's as the girl stared at the shattered monolith. Already, the few golems that had been surrounding the area were beginning to retreat - either unwilling, or unable, to keep up the conflict. Whatever the thing had been, it seemed that it's destruction had brought about the end of the coordination of the miniature creatures.

"Yeah, well...I'm a dedicated person, I guess?"

A small grin at her own words, before she looked back at Fina. She shook her head at the other's offer, knowing that it would be more hassle for the girl.

"No...that's alright. I'll keep looking for it, for a little while. I'm bound to stumble upon it eventually, after all. Plus - you're right, there may be more out here that need dealing with. So, how about..."

She palmed her menu open, before passing through a collection of submenus, eventually finding what she was looking for. She tabbed the necessary interactions, sending the request off immediately.

Friend Request Received from Kyra Vashtana

She grinned at the other girl as she continued speaking.

"...if you come across anything dangerous again, or need my help, you send me a message and I'll pop over as quickly as I can?"

Regardless of the response from the girl, Kyra would take a few more minutes to pass some final words, before making her way off into the distance - determined to find the village, but also happy to have met the new individual, someone who she thought was definitely wonderful. I hope I come across Fina again...she was rather lovely, even if a bit eccentric.

When Kyra declined the offer, Fina stood momentarily shocked. They were working together just fine until now, so why not hang around a little longer? But any worry that the healer might have been angry or something similar were swiftly dispelled as the new window popped up in the feline's UI. One that she had already been surprisingly familiar with. A smile spread across her face as she did a few hand gestures herself, accepting the invitation to another person's friends list. From a gaming perspective, it was always good to have a contact on a reliable healer.

But Fina was just content that she had another person she could hang out with, possibly even become real friend. They did just go through quite the experience together, and that usually brought people together, right? "Well, if you insist. Best of luck with your search!" Once they had said their goodbyes and parted ways, the girl would offer one final wave of her hand as she watched the fox girl head off in the opposite direction. "All kinds of people playing this game, huh..." The words were no longer meant for anyone other than Fina herself.

Just like that, Fina's newest quest came to an end much sooner than she thought. It was not bad, though. A wonderful new experience for her to remember!
