Those Who Seek The Future

Years ago an event took place that has impacted the Starcalled ever since. The first foundations for what would become Astorea, a nation built by and for the outsiders. At a time when Landers and Travelers were far more prone to distrust each other. To the point where a paranoid King would use unheard-of magic to control the masses to repel what he saw as a plague sweeping his fair land.

This city, Vintergard also saw the terrors of Titanius, and finally, its demise on the day of Dragonfall. Perhaps this place was cursed? Perhaps it was a harbinger of what may befall all of Astorea someday? Perhaps the game developers would focus all their might to continue and give these poor gamers hard time after hard time. What even would be the future for a place built by what might as well be aliens to those virtual denizens of Terrasphere? Who could say?

Regardless it was now a crumbled ruin, a shadow of its former self. Overrun by mechanical atrocities that wielded weaponry and armor that made other monsters native to the region seem like child's play. Thus there was only magitech. Civilized Magia that could coexist with the living these were not.

Only unemotional killing machines.

It was dark, on this warm early summer night. Why would anyone dare be foolish enough to wander around here now? Yet some players do like a challenge, or perhaps simply wanderlust brought you to see the great Dragonship up close?

If you were to come here now, at this time. You may notice quite a lot of junk scattered about. It seemed several sentries had been destroyed, and recently. In the distance what must have been a piece of debris from the ship could be seen, a large rounded top of what looked like a large steel wheel-shaped object. Although its design did seem to mismatch the other machines here.

As you would venture past it, you continued to find the path rather safe for how late it was, broken robots scattered all along...

Do you wish to follow these metallic bread crumbs Traveler?

Actions You Can Take While Exploring

  • Communicate with each other. This doesn't require a check...right Traveler?
  • Investigate the broken parts forming the trail. These are various destroyed bits and pieces of varying machines. To investigate and learn anything from the parts you'll need a Magitech or Knowledge roll.
  • Attempt to investigate the Wheel that lies blocked behind piles of rubble Use your Masteries or your Fitness/Knack expertise to get around or remove the debris blocking your way.
  • Unless a fated moment for one, a symphony of souls always shines brighter than a lone star.
  • Your results will be revealed in cycle 2.

A little music in the night.

A little wine for the mood.

Vintergard, ill-fated, remained still in one form or another, its ruins sunk into shadow and bathed in moonlight, machinery click-clacking unseen by eyes unaccustomed to the night. The afterglow of the sunset still rimmed the horizon, an orange band that offered one last reminder of the sun, but overhead, the sky was already consumed by the navy covers of the star-studded night, blues darkening artfully over the once-capital of Astorea. He had been here, many times. Memorable adventures by himself, and with promising newcomers. Slipping beneath the gaze of the Overseers, shattering the lenses of the Regulators, confounding the pursuit of the Sentries. Looking for answers regarding this anomaly that the Landers of Astorea and Falderen were simply ill-suited to uncover.

Perhaps a certain tinkerer would have delved deep into these mysteries. But she had gone before he had, and now, the midnight-haired muse strode beside @Seigi Ling Ling, the feather in his hat still whistling its electric tune in the night breeze. In a city of machines, anomalies offered insights, and it was at the discovery of the first set of destroyed sentries that the duo pursued the scrap metal trail, leading them to a wheel of prodigious size, grand enough that its shadow could blot out the rising moon.

“Curious,” Cain murmured, closing his eyes. Wreckage blocked the way, but magic had a way of reaching things from afar. He let out a breath, placed his hand against one such piece of scrap. Cool to the touch, but the only sense he cared for was of hearing. Harmonics magic resonated within, released by the bard's songcraft before propagating with the rest of the wreckage, until those echoes concentrated themselves into the distant Wheel. If it was a solid object, it would offer nothing, but if it had something within…then it too would resound.

It wasn’t the echo that first caught his attention though, but rather the approach of another. Steps heavier than the form suggested, and a snapping of electrical energy more pronounced than the static of a normal human being. Ashen eyes met cerulean ones (@Aroda), and the Flagbearer smiled. Reflexive warmth, mimicked from sunnier days.

“Hail, friend. Has this scrap iron trail drawn in the curiosity of the machine-children as well? I am Cain Darlite, Flagbearer of Miracles, and my companion here...” a twitch of the lips. Genuine mirth. "...can certainly introduce herself. We've the charm and the brawn, but if you care for it, your more intimate connection to sorcerous circuitry will be of no small use in elucidating the origin of this construct."

It was a strange sort of night for Aroda. She was trying something new and, while not entirely confident that she'd be fine venturing out on her own like this, she really couldn't help herself. Once she'd heard just a bit about some of the events surrounding this place, the once-lively city, the ship, the crash...and its current state, overrun with dangers and, more importantly, magitech...how could she not come try and see for herself? This was the biggest...well, anything she'd heard about since she started playing!

Once she was near enough to journey out, and actually found the time to play for long enough, she set out right away. And, oh boy. She hadn't expected it to be this creepy.

Aroda didn't intend to be here so late, when it was this dark, but the timing for her trip here had worked out that way...and she didn't feel like waiting to try another time, so, here she was. Carefully pacing her way through the ruined city, hoping to avoid any untoward encounters, and occasionally distracting herself from her unease by taking in the outlandish and, at times, fascinating scenery.

The lone Magia continued on like so for a time, her weapon, a large firearm, held tight as she journyed the area. She was starting to think this wasn't a great idea...but such thoughts leave as she finally finds something she decides to focus on. A trail of freshly broken-up parts, hm? The idea of 'where is the person who caused this if it seems so recent' doesn't cross her mind, as she instead takes to examining these wayward parts, poring over any that seem to stick out as she slowly follows their trail.

Her brief investigation comes to a temporary halt as the trail leads her up to something she wasn't quite expecting. People? That don't seem to be robots - or even robot people, like herself? As the, evidently, chattiest one opened up to address her, she straightened herself up to respond.

"Ah...yeah. Hi there. Good to meet you, Cain. I'm Aroda, the...uh, 'wanderer of roads', I guess."

She didn't have a flashy title to give out, but she does put a bit of faux-flair on the one she makes up. Should work well enough...totally.

"Fortunately, I understood most of what you just said, so...I guess you guys are here to check this stuff out too, huh? I wouldn't mind sticking together...-"

While she's talking, she's looking about, notably, past Cain, eventually noting the big 'wheel' that's caught everyone's eye.

"-Wait, what is that? ...Is that a chunk of this big ship I've heard about?"

So she asks, the curiosity in her voice as clear as day - or, night, in this case - as she approaches further to join this collection of mostly-strangers.

There were so many memories, Seigi did not even know where to start thinking. Half of them buried by the events of the Dragonfall, and the other half following after. Yet, after 4 years, here she stood. Together with one of the people who had been buried alongside that past. Fresher than ever.

Shaking her head, she gave a small sigh. Vintergard had been one of the places the brunette visited frequently. Yet, even with her powers, there was only so much she could do alone. So now, together, they should have been stronger than ever.

"Ah..." Seigi turned around from the pile of debris she was facing, which was clearly in the way of the suspicious wheel further away. @Cain Darlite always had his way with words. Back then, she was like that too. And ever since then, she was slowly regaining that spark from the past. A small flame that would light her future.

Shaking her head once more to get rid of these needless thoughts of the past, she took a step towards the Magia @Aroda "Seigi Ling Ling's the name, punching is my game! Though my friend here rather calls it Sunset Sage of the Seven Strikes..." Yes, it was like that, wasn't it? For a moment she wondered, why even seven. "And while I'm not as wordy as Cain, I do more acting than thinking. Cuz if you put your all into it, you'll succeed... eventually!"

Seigi then pointed at their potential target. The various magitek circuity around the place made it visible enough even at this late. "That's our target. Yes. If we stick together it should be safer... that said." Without further comments, Seigi started to climb, jump, and scale up on the debris. "HIIYAAA!" Before breaking some parts of it with her bandaged fist to create a more stable foothold and just generally making it easier to traverse.

"Let's go..."
Offering a helping hand to those that needed it.

"Hello?"

The single word, though delivered in only a whisper, seemed to boom in the forlorn place. Magdalyn's hands instinctively closed into fists at her sides, made uncomfortable by the sound of her own voice. I shouldn't be here, came that same thought, as incessant and annoying as a buzzing insect. Part of the reason stemmed from the risk - Vintergard was not a place for the faint of heart. But more compelling was that strange stillness that fell over the wasteland, and the overwhelming feeling that she did not belong. That she had entered some holy place without invitation. That she walked over some unknown person's grave. Considering the ruin's history, it was certainly possible. I. Shouldn't. Be. Here.

Pausing to inhale deeply, Mags filled her lungs with the warm, summer air. Then, even as anxiety closed like a vice around her heart, she tried a second time.

"Hello?"

Nothing, or no one, answered her. While that suited her frayed nerves just fine, it brought her no closer to achieving her goal - learning to use her new Spirit Magic abilities. The concept of conversing with the dead had intrigued her, and though it made no sense with her build, she had dumped mastery points into it anyway. Now, all that was left to do was to do it. To become the Ghost Whisperer.

And she couldn't find a single ghost.

"Melinda Gordon made this look so easy," Magdalyn heard herself grumble, but her mouth snapped closed as a voice reached her. It carried on the night breeze, and when realization bloomed, a different kind of warmth filled her. I know that voice.

As she crested the hill, the sight of the dark-haired man confirmed her suspicions (@Cain Darlite). Mags flashed a smile toward the other two Players (@Aroda @Seigi Ling Ling), but when she finally spoke, her words were for the musician only. "Cain Darlite," she said by way of greeting. "I'm not sure you remember me, as it's been... a very long time. But it's good to see you again."

Of course, it was entirely possible that he would not remember her. Not willing to leave room for that awkward possibility, she shifted back to the two women. "I'm Magdalyn. It's nice to meet you, Aroda and Seigi." Finally, she registered what it was the pair were working on. She drew her own blade. "If you need another hand cutting back some of this debris, I'd be happy to help." Without waiting for an answer, Mags hacked at a large piece of metal, the metallic clang like the haunting toll of a bell against the night.

The various mechanical bits and pieces that @Aroda had eyed while walking would be what might have been Sentries. however, it was the remnants of a strange liquid signaling an Overseer or two may have also been on this path. The liquid was spotty and far apart, not a full puddle, as if a great deal of it may have evaporated somehow. Perhaps it had already been collected via other Overseers afterward but then why so many parts left behind? That was all the magia could discern for now.

@Seigi Ling Ling would have more difficulty than she may have expected getting past the rubble but with effort and @Magdalyn the two together would make it to a point of good visibility. The Wheel before them was large as the sight of it from further away had suggested. The outer metal looked like a silvery steel with many discolored plates built into it. The center of the wheel and outer rims were ridged like a great tire.

The harmonics of @Cain Darlite would not unleash as strong a sound wave as he'd hoped. Yet a fine-tuned ear may have picked up a response to his sound wave.

In the end, the party would arrive at the wheel since the majority of them had chosen to focus on it rather than the trail to the dragonship itself.

It would not take long to see that the words P I O N E E R T E K had been engraved on it.

"Halt... who are you? What are y'all doing here now?"

A masked man dressed in thick white-colored combat attire came over from around the edge of the wheel. He had a gun-like weapon in both hands. His mask also seemed to have some sort of light source in the eyes, creating an eerie look in the dark environment. Even with all this, his distinctly country manner of speaking may have been even more jarring to behold.

Another would emerge from behind the party. He too held a gun aimed at them. It was then that the first man prodded his gun at you after a moment and spoke again.

"Step away from the Vehicle strangers. This is Pioneertek property."

"Bill, ya know they don't know who that is all the way this far east rite?"

The man behind them spoke, scolding the first. Who then would shrug.

"Look it here pardners, I dunno why y'all here but if 'you know how dangerous it is, I reckon you folks should skedaddle on out ah here. We have no qualms with you as long as y'all keep yer distance.

"I say we shoot em, Ted! They could have who knows what in diseases. I don't trust these easterners that just suddenly exist! Especially since Priscilla affiliated herself with em... Snooty dame is nothin' but trouble. Just look at that there Gardibrook now when we passed by."

The man gestured with his gun before the two came together but still kept their guns pointed at you...

The Pioneer Star

"Stand down Digger. I shoulda known bringin' some grunts would be a bad idea. I would have come alone if I knew it would be like this out here. This what I get for letting you fellas sightsee?"

EzWiSsv.jpg
A tall woman (although considering the heights of the ladies involved just emphasized Siegi's shortness in this group of vertically gifted individuals), built with very strong-looking legs in tight pants and boots with hair that formed what could easily be mistaken for the ears of a felis approached from the direction of the dragonship's immense hull. She had a third masked gunman at her side.

One of her heeled boots made a loud cracking sound as it landed on a piece of metal. it bent under the alpha female's heel. Nearly as a period to the soldiers pulling back their guns and straightening their backs.

"The Pioneer Star blazes the trail to Xanadu!"

The duo said before saying nothing more.

The woman gave the party of travelers a look and finally, her eyes would settle on Aroda's large firearm.

"That's a mighty fine weapon for an easterner darlin'. I see... you're a Magia.

Her accent was less thick than the soldiers but still undeniably from the same region, whatever that may be. She changed her focus to the rest as she continued.

"I do suppose I should praise y'all. That blockade was purposely set up when we drove through. We didn't expect other living things to come along tonight, let alone come knocking on our doorstep. We even took precautions to avoid leaving tracks but.. the best laid plans of ah farmer for his burcow

A professional smile.

"So... did y'all wreak havoc here tonight? I heard I might have to pierce through a high wall but this was a prairie walk."

Her expression turns serious.

"I assume y'all Astorans, or whatever you call em that had gotten wrecked by this big un'? You surely have questions, but I can't promise y'all get answers. I came here to clarify it was one of those flyers and I had already done got what I need out of this place. So, we will be gone by mornin'. Sooner if possible."

Her eyes suddenly shifted upwards for a moment as if something caught her eye.

But only silence surrounded the group.

Magdalyn.

Only the vaguest memories surfaced. Of haunted homes and of the excitement that fear brought. More people he’d have to reconnect with, it seemed. More people who, knowing the true nature of Terrasphere, still sought to enjoy it as it was. Perhaps there was a spark of insanity there, but in the end, what did it matter?

It was a good night for exploration and discovery. A good night indeed, to be meeting new people. To be meeting Pioneertek.

Pioneers both invasive and prejudiced, it appeared, cloaked in anachronistic garments and obscured by glowing gasmasks, armed with guns. Settlers? No. If what they said was true, they didn’t even expect there to have been people here. ‘Easterners that just suddenly exist.’ A phrase worth interrogating, if this didn’t turn out to be a brawl. Cain placed a firm hand on @Seigi Ling Ling, in case the brawler leapt to the challenge, and stepped forth as the leader of those two men did the same.

A statuesque woman with flowing, pink curls and azure eyes. One whose presence was indeed quite domineering.

“You’ll be gone so soon?” Cain echoed, a welcoming smile blooming over his chiselled face. “A shame indeed, for such a rare sight. I am Cain Darlite, Flagbearer for the Vintergard Scouting Expedition, as authorized by Duke Rutledge, and though you’ve taken your precautions to avoid leaving tracks, I must say…a Unicycle the size of a building would draw anyone’s attention, even without a trail of Sentries in its wake.”

Well, all that authority was bullshit, but Roland wouldn’t mind, and the Pioneers wouldn’t know. And Xanadu too. That was in the actual far east, wasn’t it? In China or Mongolia, according to mythology? If they came from the far west then…really, the Pioneers should’ve gone further west instead.

“Still, I mean no disrespect, and I’m sure you’ve all travelled a long way to reach here. The night’s still young, and I’ve some fine Astorean wine with me. Care to try a cup, Dame, and tell me what sights you’ve seen on your way here to the eastern coast?”

It was best, after all, to settle down for a conversation and ease into heavier topics over the course of the moonfall. He couldn't help himself though.

"Or would fruit juices suit better a far western palate?"

Aroda had begun to relax a bit, finally, now that she'd found a group of people who all seemed reasonably chill. However, they also all seemed to know each other, so though she'd found company, she also apparently found herself becoming a fourth wheel. How unfortunate. She'd also be concerned about evidently being the only non-human here, but she had the feeling these people were players, too. Especially when their first responses to an obstacle were to punch and stab it.

"It's good to meet you all. And, nice to be with some more...capable people. I'm quite...new."

Sadly, Aroda's relaxation just can't last long, as a duo of goons appeared and started waving guns around. Her grip on her own gun tenses once again as she stares them down through their aggression, and...she was pretty sure they were talking, but once she had a look, she was paying much more attention to the weapons they were holding. They were interesting - and Aroda had come out here to find some interesting tech. Or at least, to discover new things.

Her intense focus on the guns of the two excellent dudes is interrupted as the real main actor arrived, the only one of these people with a face. Now, she actually paid attention - doubly so when she was addressed directly. Though the immediate shift of focus to the others worried her. She knew that 'landers' could act weird around her, what with the being a robot thing. She really hoped talking to these people wouldn't be a struggle uphill...because she was a bit confused.

"Wait, wait, hang on...what do you mean 'flyers'? ...And 'Pioneertek'? Where are you guys even from? And...did you say that's a vehicle?"

Clearly Aroda was most interested in the last bit, but she was genuinely curious as to who these strange new appearances were, and what they were doing here.

"Hi Magdalyn! I am Seigi Ling Ling!" Surely, they already had met before, but never really talked...? Regardless, the two of them managed to carve a path forward for everybody! At least until they met two goons...

"H-Hey!" Seigi wouldn't just sit still and idle as the two people talking in weird voices were clearly NOT taking them serious AND talked in a weird accent. Though before Seigi could take on a more aggressive approach (Though she'd never attack anyone without good reason) it was Cain who took a sort of lead. Even as the non-faceless goon appeared. Seigi couldn't quite put it why, but she certainly didn't like her... that much. Kinda like how some people didn't like Tsundere sort of deal.

Though she wouldn't let that come between them. Instead, the brunette was silent for a moment as she considered their situation. Between their senseless chatter, they did mention some things. Pioneertek. Xanadu. Priscilla. Gardibrook. In those four years she had spent in Terrasphere it wasn't just like Seigi had spend her time senseless.

Especially when it came to Dissonance. And she did know at least her basics in Terrasphere's local geography! "You're Tertorian!" She spoke up, stepping beside Cain. "I am Seigi Ling Ling, and we have vanquished Titanius's inner core." Or something like that, to a degree anyway.

Ultimately it wouldn't really matter, but it was simply more fuel to throw.

"Just like you, we're also here to investigate. It's a pretty long way out for you, though!"

Given how easily these strangers tossed around words like "y'all" and "pardners," Magdalyn couldn't help but picture them both in ten-gallon hats. She had never encountered anyone like them, in this edition of the game, or the previous. While it was possible they were Players with accents, something in the way they carried themselves hinted at a different explanation. That they were a part of the game she hadn't seen before. Maybe, even, a part that no one had seen before. If they'd been encountered before, wouldn't the rumor mill be buzzing? And what in the world was Pioneertek? Again, visions of covered wagons leapt to mind...

When the goddess emerged from the dragonship's hull, all conscious thought simply melted away. The first to return was a shameless, holy crap, what a woman. But as that woman continued speaking, and Mags reined in her galloping imagination, a new desire took up residence - the desire for information.

You've already found the answers you came searching for? Like what? She bit down hard on her lower lip, stopping the words from springing forth and potentially ruining everything. She couldn't come across as too eager. If she'd learned anything in the classroom, it was how to control her emotions. When a student said something especially ridiculous, she couldn't fall into a fit of hysterical giggles, or fly off the handle if the comment was mean-spirited. Likewise, if her pupil was slowly inching toward an epiphany, she couldn't bounce up and down in anxious anticipation (no matter how much she wanted to). The same rule applies here.

"You really should try the wine," she finally stated, moving up alongside Cain. "Duke Rutledge spared no expense, so you can bet it's really delicious." A pause, and then, "I'd also love to know more about the West, too, if you don't mind. I've always been curious about new places."

In typical fashion, Cain set the scene. Aroda provided the additional lines (of questioning), and Seigi added flair of her own. Now, Mags just had to make sure she didn't upstage anyone.

While their guns were certainly smaller than the literal ship-artillery @Aroda carried around, the design was certainly more sophisticated. While the curves, instead of edges, from the front to the back of the weapon made them look rather simple, a knowing eye would notice a few features missing. Like the lack of obvious heat dispersal, hinting at the use of some sort of possible coolant. And while it was hard to say if the weapon did use some sort of ammunition, as the insertion point could be hidden by said design, the troopers also didn't seem to carry any magazines.

Ringing...

"Sounds like disrespect to me shiny pants. Gardibrook lookin- "

The soldier behind the woman was ready to pick a fight with @Cain Darlite when the woman raised a hand to stop him.
"Enough of that now. Remember, we are in a new land, but also one with its own culture, its own ideas on how to interact. My status there is not the same here. Which I mighty appreciate to be quite honest."

Vibrations...
She would nod to the questioning and smirk, Although Seigi's comment would overwrite anything with a much more dark expression as she answered.
"Tertorian?

"*Grumble*"

Pain...

"Our lives may be there but our hearts lie elsewhere. I don't expect strangers like y'all to understand."

A squint of the eyes at @Seigi Ling Ling Titanius' mention.

"Well, Seigi Ling Ling, a rather long name ain't it? You met Saya I reckon? She isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. Be careful it doesn't rub off on y'all. Regardless, I am not interested in what the east does, including your lands. I only came to check this here ship considering I can't get anywhere near the other. Also, lands already settled into are not useful to my people. Our Xanadu cannot be found where others have already staked a claim"

Her attention would turn to @Magdalyn and also Cain again.

"We are excavators of the past, pioneers of the future, and seekers of Xanadu. Being the best lurkers of the night ain't in our description handsome. I'm also sorry ma'am but your Duke will have to drink alone tonight heh. We came from mighty far indeed. The Horizons Frontier is the edge of the world for Tertorians but so was Naryu Canyon not too long ago."

(A sense of determination coated those last few words)

"We were not the ones that cleared this here path. I would have enjoyed a chance to test these machines in a battle, but it wasn't meant to be. Tis why I asked y'all if you had been the havoc wreckers. Well... the journey back is long and my responsibilities are many. Those who follow the trail I am paving call me the Pioneer Star, those who stand against my dream have other names for me that are well worth wearing in exchange for my justice... For everyone else. Natasha."

The humidity had vanished...

All these senses one may have suddenly become dulled...

Natasha's eyes now passed your party to something behind you.

'..."

A platinum-haired girl in silver robes floated a few inches off of the ground and watched the group. Her eyes locked on the muse and her face dead cold. Void of even the smallest muscle movement. A single blackened flower filled one of her eye sockets and its vines looked as if they were fossilized.

"Seems we have more visitors. Strange ones at that. Maybe late-night wanderings are normal in these parts heh."

Natasha's words were jovial but her face showed otherwise. The soldiers readied their guns again out of caution.

[Theme Fade Out Here}

'Ner! There you are. Hmmm, well it cannot be helped now hahaha. Greetings fellow sleepless stars."

A green-haired young woman whose legs were covered in a metallic plate approached. Perhaps a fan of X-Men would see semblances between her chair and a certain Xavier character., this floating girl would be a possible candidate. Her chair floated only slightly higher than the silent female.

' I couldn't help but overhear you all! I see an Oracle is here, and fellow Starcalled no doubt! How delightful, I am Xsune, that is pronounced TSU-NEI my friends. This is Ner. We all seem to have been shipped into the same place tonight. Isn't fate an interesting puzzle indeed?"

The weaves of fate had tangled here tonight.
Stars crossing in tandem,...

You see I am a seeker of knowledge and solver of puzzles.'I am here researching this wonderful discovery. As an intellectual, it is impossible to ignore. Although we mustn't drag-on or the various terraminators of this place will certainly return."

A gentle smile and kind voice that belied the strange gleam in her eyes.

“Pioneers in the truest sense,” Cain echoed, allowing just a glimmer of genuine interest to shine through. The Explorer’s League had been impressive in some form, but there was a grand difference between unwieldy caravans trawling through the jungles and a sleek magitech vehicle that could traverse through so effortlessly through ruinous landscapes. “It is a pleasure indeed, Natasha. May tales of the Pioneer Star’s ventures be brought back to these lands, once you plant your flag upon what lays beyond the horizon.”

But such pleasant conversation was not meant to last, in truth. For in the absence of both parties’ involvement with the destruction of Vintergard’s mechanical vanguard, there had to be another. And the third party that involved itself was certainly one with a more…familiar aesthetic to the Starcalled. A girl crafted of moonlight, as still as steel with a black flower sealing one eye. She floated in defiance of gravity, and yet possessed a pervasive poise herself, her gaze reserved only for the midnight-haired muse.

He did not know her.

Perhaps he would know of her.

That strange mood was disrupted forcibly by the girl’s, Ner’s, handle. Xsune. A scholar who made pretensions of disability, considering how she claimed to be amongst the Starcalled herself. Cain smiled though, a spark igniting within his ashen eyes. Whether they were friendly or dangerous, he was prepared for both outcomes.

“It would appear as if fate has conspired to interlace our paths indeed, though I do suspect that this is less coincidence and more the in-born curiosity of the Starcalled that have brought us here together, Xsune, Ner.” Floating would explain the lack of tracks. “It doesn’t take much effort to be drawn in to the sight of something so dramatically anachronistic as Pioonertek, though I do wish that the two of you called out earlier to us.

He met her eyes. Perhaps only five or so minutes have elapsed since contact with the Pioneers, and progress through the wrecked metals had been slow before that. When had these two first arrived?

“It was quite a struggle, ridding the path of obstructions. Extra hands, even ones so slender as yours, would have made some difference indeed.” He laughed, in a friendly enough manner. “Though I suppose your levitation may have just exempted you from those obstructions to begin with. I take it that you’ve come here for the same purpose that Natasha has, at least originally? In regards to plundering the secrets of this Dragonship?”

Trying to sus out how suspicious Xsune is, and whether or not that duo had anything to do with the trail of Sentries.

There's no way this is coincidence.

The thought came as two more joined the fray. Judging from Natasha's reaction, the odd pair did not belong to their group. Then who were they? The only conclusion that Mags could arrive at was that she, Cain, Aroda, and Seigi had stumbled upon some strange in-game event. Do we have a role to play, or do we just observe while the event unfolds?

Surprise lanced through her musings as the green-haired stranger claimed to be among the Starcalled. Was it possible that she could be another Player, and not just an NPC delivering pre-written lines? Mags' pansy eyes narrowed in suspicion before she could stop them from doing so. Everything felt a bit... off, when she considered the entire situation. If Xsune was a Starcalled, then was Ner? Was it possible even Natasha and her lackeys were Players?

Maybe Mags was getting a tad ahead of herself.

After schooling her expression into something far less accusatory, and allowing Cain to finish speaking, Mags addressed Xsune directly. "You're also Starcalled? That's really great! We never know who we'll run into in places like this." With one hand, she absently motioned to their surroundings. Her gaze never left Xsune's. "Have you worked with the MIT at all? Since they're into research as well, I bet they'd be right up your alley."

Urrggghh. This sounded like half-a-politics talk! If anything Saya may have already rubbed off on her! She did like Cain's fancy talks, but only when it was for cool things. In situations like these, she'd wish everybody would just get to the point already!

Suspicious...

Was her next thought as more weirdoes joined the scene. "..." Instinctively, Seigi shuffled closer to Cain. To protect him? To seek protection from him? She wasn't too sure. But all this empty filler talk really didn't suit her at all.

"I don't believe in Fate." She tried to say at least something, with an ever-so-light pout. "I rather carve my own path." She shook her head. "How about you come down here so we can TALK?" And not kill their necks while at it, though if they really continued to talk she'd hope for something more... tangible than useless theatrics! Those were only cool in fights.

Aroda examines the hell out of those guns, and while said guns don't look nearly as intimidating as hers, she still finds them quite interesting. Not having obvious vents or anything was apparently not unheard of, but not even having an obvious source of ammo was curious. Considering the size, it couldn't be all internal, and they weren't even carrying ammo, so...what were they firing? If they were as out of place as they looked, maybe they shot some kinda energy and the guns just had batteries they recharged? She almost wanted to ask, but...the conversation here was getting, a little hard to follow already...

And speaking of hard to follow, she spins around as a few new appearances take the stage, confusing the situation even more. She looks between them, and throws glances at the players she first met up with, and the odd 'pioneertek' people, with a concerned stare that almost seemed to say 'who are you people'. With that, she begins to shuffle her way as much into the center of the other three players she'd first met as she can, hoping to keep something between her and the strangers that had started showing up rapidly.

"Uh, yeah, so...I really wouldn't mind if we slowed down a bit, here. What..."

She pauses, clearly considering 'what' she should even ask about first, then realizes that she's got too many options for her to pick one.

"What is going on...?"

The magia finally says, weariness taking over her tone, though not completely overriding the wariness.

Those Who Seek The Future

"Hm? Oracle? Yes, indeed I suppose you solved that puzzle all on your lonesome?"

Natasha raised a brow as Xsune made her introduction. Obviously not expecting anyone to be aware of that this far from home. There was something else as well, which she would mention shortly after Seigi's outburst and she surely agreed with @Aroda on one thing.

"What in tarnation is going on tonight? ...Your eyes. I've seen those kinds ah eyes before. Are you...?"

The floating scholar spoke over her with little interest, instead answering only what she wanted to.

"Without knowledge one is but a reckless ape. I hear, things, I learn things, I seek things etcetera, etcetera."

Xsune crossed her fingers as Ner moved closer to her. The unnaturally quiet girl never blinked, as Cain met her gaze. When she moved beside Xsune, it was as if a piece had been shifted on a board rather than any natural movements.

"Forgive Ner. She is incapable of emitting sound. She does seem to resonate with the little magic you used earlier. Seeing how she decided to come here on her own haha. How interesting, I have learned yet another thing tonight."

A slight glance at Ner before continuing in response to @Magdalyn .

"MIT? Ah yes, my mother told me about that school, but I did not attend. Oh... perhaps you must mean the new MIT? I prefer to learn from many places at once, diversify my educate-"

Natasha would add to the inquiry about the duo's competence in getting here alone, straight interrupting the glasses-wearing woman herself this time.

"You don't even look like you can stand on your own in that transport of yours. You also know a lot for a stranger about things you shouldn't. Now I'm suspicious see? And the oddly named darlin' here is right about one thing. Fate had nothin' to do with my being here. I can assure you of that one."

Her gaze hardened. When she spoke the word fate it was almost as if she spat it.

"Oh? Ner is quite good at erasing things. She is invaluable for my explorations. A true gem. Magia may be a real steel these days but nothing beats a homunculus as a companion."

Xsune would barely acknowledge Seigi's nor Natasha's words and just continued to speak undeterred not accepting another interruption. The bandaged girl indeed was but a reckless ape although there was one thing that caught her attention. She had no interest in mentioning it here, however. Tonight was not at all related to that sort of thing.

"Sigh, unfortunately, an imperfect world means imperfect meetings. And so we must depart or we will keep our hostess waiting."

The exact purpose of Xsune's presence here would not be revealed to these travelers tonight. For she took hold of Ners ghostly white hand and offered a small wave as they seemed to be pulled into a vermillion colored gateway which closed as quickly as it had opened.

Natasha put a hand to her chin and the other to her hip. Surprisingly or not, someone just gate warping away didn't really cause her any shock. Instead it was the comment Xsune made that made the pioneer think.

"A homunculus. I do suppose I might have to visit an old flame now. Didn't expect to hear that word."

The Pioneer Star waved a hand at her guards and they immediately moved into a line next to her.

"Sorry to say, it's time for us to head on out. I have some questions I need answered back home, and while this place is mighty interesting. I don't have much more I can do here without more men."

A slight smirk as she turned and with a remote control opened a latch to the large Wheel.

"We aren't likely to meet again. The Order isn't keen on lettin' strangers visit a Heretic's lands no matter how much the rest of the subservient masses use our technologies. Although, if Fate isn't something y'all believe in, who knows? ...All right Diggers, we're moving out!."

The latch closed. The Wheel began to spin slowly at first that faster as it levitated ever so slightly off the dirt as its rim spun in place. a searchlight appeared and shined into the darkness before it began to slowly leave the area, speeding up as it went along.

Perhaps it was also time for you to leave. Before the inevitable mechanized menaces of Vintergard return in mass...

Aroda continues to stand there, rubbernecking about as words beyond her understanding are shared back and forth, her confusion never really abating. She was starting to feel like she'd dropped into a scene in the middle of a really wild movie, with no context of the parts before or after, or...anything. Who are these characters? What are they talking about?

She's not any more certain of what exactly is happening or who these people are, but seeing as her role had long since been relegated to 'spectator', that's about all she does as she waits, wondering if any of this was going to somehow break into hostilities.

And then just like that...all of the strangers took their leave. She idly waves to the group that actually had parting words for them and left without teleporting away.

"...So that was a flying saucer...that's so weird..."

The robot murmurs to herself, though despite her words, she's already wondering how she could try to make something like that. This magitech mastery was a hell of a drug. Unfortunately, flying saucers wasn't exactly in her ballpark yet. Hopefully she did get to meet these people again, in less...hectic and confusing circumstances.

Regardless, she looks around at the people remaining, whom she had hidden herself in the middle of.

"Uh...well, should we get moving, everyone? I kinda wanna get outta here now."

She offers to the collection of players, since having some extra muscle around would definitely be reassuring as she makes her way out of this bizarre place. Though whether any accompanied her or not, she'd be leaving regardless.
