Stars of the World: Dayeon Song

????
In the Nexus between Fantasy and Reality.
Somewhere between the Moon and Sun... the space Earth can never face.
The Eclipse of Evolution.

A black beyond black.
Absorbing all light.
*THUD*

From the darkness, a single red spotlight blooms, cutting through rising fog. A low, distorted guitar note snarls, followed by the crash of drums like pounding fists. The giant LED screens behind the stage flicker to life, showing black sludge spreading across white marble, twisting into monstrous, faceless silhouettes.

A single cloaked figure appears in the spotlight.

The stage erupts.

DIZZONANCE storms forward. The guitarist strikes a furious chord, the bassist stomps out a rhythm that feels like a heartbeat under duress. Then the voice cuts in:

"That darkness in me..."

The lights slam off. Silence for a beat then a jagged guitar riff tears across the arena, joined by pounding drums that hit like gunfire.

The shine of a fang within the hood.
The cloak flies off.

upGNRjx.png
The face of the group, Helter Skelter (real name Selena Cruz) gets full focus. Her hair streaked wildly, one hand gripping her microphone stand, the other a electric guitar.

She leans into the mic, voice echoing with a retro meets new generation stinger that pierces the soul.

A chant shakes within crowd. Black veiled dancers surge from the wings, lunging at her. Helter Skelter slams the mic stand into one, spinning, then swings her guitar like an axe into another, neon sparks burst forth as if lightning itself followed her swings. The strikes land perfectly in time with the drummer's powerful strike. The cymbals are hit via drumsticks, that alight into flaming flying saucers. The entire band is slaughtering countless shadows all while they utterly jam out.

"I will feed them and you will too!"

Her scream bleeds into the chorus as the LED wall explodes into spirals of black and white, shadows writhing between them. Dark flames roar along the stage edge, twisting into even more shadowy beasts.

The creatures seem to literally burst from the screen and fill the stage, the air, all around. The stage covered in sludge as the performance continues.

Helter Skelter plants her guitar neck-first into the stage, splattering a rising eye to bits, screaming into the mic.

"Your enemy is YOU!"

The entire arena chants it back at her, thousands of voices rising into one monstrous choir.

When the last echo fades, Helter smirks, fangs catching the light. Behind her, the LED wall fractures into a kaleidoscope of pure chaos. The screen cracks apart.

DIZZONANCE: T̸̳̗͈̊̊H̶͔̄͛̒̔͋Ȇ̷̟̇͝Y̵͍̱͇̬͐ ̵̨̤̚Ĩ̸̙̈N̶͉̺̖̬̐̔V̵̭̠̓A̶̢͖̥͚̔͐̅D̶̟̲͎͋̄͘Ḗ̸͈.

The teaser ends.

The image cut, leaving only static, then silence.

A roaring applause as the lights blare back on. The screen shifts to a variant of the ever recognizable Nexus logo.

"Bravo! Yes! Yes! That was the newest teaser from DIZZONANCE! Brought to you by Nexus Entertainment!"

Besides the male announcer was the rent a icon that was Dayeon Song. Who had been payed to act as a co-host for this event and the star power since who the hell was this guy anyway? The event covered many upcoming groups songs but this was the anticipated Nexus backed finale.

Outside of a slight hiccup involving it's one time founder in the past. Everything Nexus seems to touch turns to gold, so of course.

Helter Skelter was also present, alone. She was after all the main character of the sensation that was Dizzonance.

"Thank you all very much ese!"

"I'm really grateful to Nexus Entertainment for giving me, and my fellow band mates a chance to reach this point. We don't bring the expected sound and Nexus was willing to risk on us! Actually, grateful is an understatement eheheh!"

A glance at Dayeon.

"I hope our sound isn't too much for you doña Song."

The comment, cloaked in jest, aimed at Dayeon amid the cheers.

"Kuso-ongaku. Ryoko-chan was a real musician. The voice of Himiko blood."

A man muttered in the crowd. A lone hater in an otherwise sea of fans and the excited media. He sinks into the masses.

Far above a boy claps so enthusiastically it looked like his hands might go through each other.

"WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!"

Almost a howl of joy until a man pushed him back into his seat where several others were. A special area reserved for certain Nexus VIP in attendances. He wasn't the only younger than expected person up there. Some looked to be students of Nexus Academy although some were definitely not.

The event would conclude shortly after the teaser.

Dayeon would find herself alone walking through a empty hall. The convention center emptied so quickly...

The lights blinked.

A lone man appeared at the end of the hall. He had one hand in his pocket.

"Yo. Can I have an autograph babe?"

He slowly strutted down the hall towards her.

"I'm a real fan of yours. Slime Girls right?"

The lights sputtered again. A green light on the security camera turn red, then off completely.

He sped up as more footsteps came from behind...

"..."

Another man, camo vest open and bare chest with a dragon tattoo.

Some choices to attempt

>Give the loyal fan an autograph of course!
Look for a way out, maybe a side door or something.
Choose violence.
Pass the fuck out.

The final, distorted chord of DIZZONANCE's teaser faded into static, and then for a moment, a silence held the arena captive. Then, the applause hit like a wave. Dayeon maintained the camera-ready smile that had graced a million magazine covers, perfected over years of media training, hiding the headache the performance had given her.

It wasn't music to her ears; it was an assault.

Beside her, the announcer was practically vibrating with manufactured hype. Dayeon turned, her smile softening just enough to appear genuine for the cameras.

"Truly a visceral performance,"
the black-and-white, short-haired idol commented, her voice as smooth and sweet as honey. She gave a slight, respectful bow of her head towards Helter Skelter. "You command the stage with such... raw power, Helter Skelter."

"I hope our sound isn't too much for you doña Song."

When Helter Skelter shot a casual joke, a flicker of something unreadable passed through Dayeon's eyes before the professional mask slid perfectly back into place.

"Oh, not at all, Selena," She let out a light laugh while switching to the artist's real name. "Nexus Entertainment has found another powerful voice. Congratulations on a successful debut teaser." She replied, her tone perfectly pitched between polite and playful. She addressed the roaring crowd, her voice swelling with practiced warmth. "Let's hear it one more time for DIZZONANCE!"

With a final, flawless wave, the event concluded. One moment, she was already out in the hallway, unusually empty. There's no security detail assigned to her, which makes her frown a bit.

The lights buzzed, then blinked once. Twice.

Weird, but she's not the superstitious type that gets scared of things like that. But then she saw a lone figure at the far end of the hall that started walking towards her.

"Yo. Can I have an autograph babe?"

The word 'babe' struck a nerve. It was cheap, dismissive. Her smile froze on her face as she remained. Her hand, which had been resting on the strap of her custom Miu Miu handbag, casually dipped inside.

"I'm a real fan of yours. Slime Girls right?"

No real fan, not even a casual one, would phrase it like that. They'd say her name, Dayeon Song. Who the fuck would just walk up to her and be 'Slime Girls right?' on her face? This wasn't a fan.

The lights sputtered again. She didn't notice the security camera turned off, but she heard another footstep from behind. A slight turn of her head revealed a man with a dragon tattoo on his chest behind. Not to be prejudiced, but as a woman, she doesn't exactly feel safe at all.

Jojkka.

Her hand snapped out of her handbag. It wasn't a phone. It was a sleek, pink keychain attached to a pepper spray. Her thumb found the button.

BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!

A high-pitched, loud alarm tore through the silence of the hall. In the same fluid motion, her index finger slammed down on the button of the pepper spray.

A vicious, conical plume of concentrated orange pepper spray erupted. She didn't hesitate; she aimed for his eyes as she viciously sprayed and turned around while holding her own breath. Even if those guys didn't mean harm, it's better to be safe than sorry. Blame that first guy for being a massive creep.

You know what they say. Bad girl woke up and chose violence.

"I just wan-"

A orange barrage of pain interrupted him.

"URRRGHHHH YABAIIIIII!!!!!!"

"...tch"

Tattoo Chest went for his concealed weapon but was stopped as the first man shouted.

"*Cough* No! Don't shoot the bitch! Knock her out!" (In Japanese)

Covering his eyes with the back of his hand, the man spoke in Japanese to the other. Meanwhile the alarm Dayeon set off was met with hurried footsteps from both sides of the hall...

"Stop resisting. You just make it-"

*Click*

"Yeah so... I'm going to have stop you right there."

A cold muzzle ready to unleash blazing heat pointed at Tattoo Chest's temple.

"You are under arrest for attempted kidnapping of a international celebrity. You have the right to-"

"You found them?"

"Haha! What did you expect?! I got a bum by gunpoint!"

"You-"

On the officer(?) and Tattoo Chest's side came the sound of a door opening. The bathroom door swung open behind them and out stepped a familiar pierced face.

"???"

Selena Cruz stepped out of the bathroom. She looked directly at the impending kidnapping as she rubbed her right arm. A bandage that wasn't present earlier now stuck on it.

"Wha? I thought this area was supposed to be cleared!? This one has a working comm? These were all supposed to be fucked" (In Japanese)

"*cough* Call the Good Boy!" (In Japanese)

Two more thugs came around the corner. One in the back tapping a long black rod in his hand and the other had what looked like... A even more BAD version of a NES power glove?(?) over his visible hand.

But what was following them and quickly gaining was what was really alarming.

Two security robot dogs The rise of technology and AI brought with it a form of security that had seemed impossible before. Although maybe it wasn't so superior right now...

One was obviously meant to protect the Convention Center with familiar US design, but the other looked to be of another make. Both however were following the directions of these gangsters.

"..."

The look on the so called savior's face said it all. She didn't know what to do on the spot and had been caught off guard by the sudden door opening. This was why she wasn't cut out for the streets...

"Rah!"

And just like that Tattoo slammed the blonde in the side pushing her back as he drew his gun fully.

"Yahhhh... urgh crap..."

"I can OFF this bitch RIGHT?!!!!???!! (In Japanese)"

"Hai."

Spoke the man as he raised his gloved hand. The power was out, the cameras off, but the glove worked fine? There was some real bullshit going on here... so much for the normal world being normal.

The random stories and rumors of untimely deaths, missing persons, a "magical" VR game that kills...

"Wrong place, wrong time ese."

Suddenly knee to the privates and a swift bite to the arm drawing blood caused Tattoo Chest to stumble and drop his gun, unfortunately it went off in a wild direction before falling...

The bullet went straight for Dayeon!

BULLET DANGER!

1d5
  1. Neck (Non Lethal)
  2. Stomach
  3. Leg
  4. Am
  5. Miss!

"WRYYYYYYY!"

Selena grabbed the gun off the ground as she took the man down and held him in a grapple. Slamming his head into the hard floor as his struggling slowed and the blood flowed freely.

"Are you okay?! Come on! Those Good Boys are going to rush us if we aren't shot to death first!"

"Losing a brother. ...a complete disaster. Kill the punk. She wasn't supposed to interfere. I have the other two." (In Japanese)

"My pleasure once I can SEE HER!" (In Japanese)

The panicked officer(?) would try to drag Dayeon down the hall just as the security dogs started to give chase...

Her hunch was right; the two of them were indeed up to no good. One even shouted some command in his own language. Thankfully, she both understands and speaks Japanese well as a part of being an idol group that markets to multiple cultures.

"Iya, anta koso bitchida yo."

She paused for a second to process what she actually just heard. The weirdo fucker indeed said 'shoot'. It was then she realized that the chest tattoo guy was packing some heat.

The moment she turns toward one guy, the one behind would try and grab her. She was essentially in a checkmate, or not anymore, as suddenly a blonde appeared, pointing a gun toward her assailant's head.

"Yeah so... I'm going to have stop you right there."

Under arrest. An officer? No, the police wear actual uniforms. Security? She wouldn't be alone if she were one. Perhaps an independent third party, but Dayeon didn't have the time or the space to ponder. Things were happening fast, and it gradually got more dangerous every passing second. Especially now that Selena just walked out of the bathroom and got involved.

Another joined, this time equipped with a gizmo straight out of 80s sci-fi. Behind him was a pair of security dogs, one definitely belonged to this convention center. That's why there wasn't any security coming to help them; they probably ensured that the Nexus security detail left the premises, too.

The blonde was distracted, giving the Iron Fist wannabe some opening to attack her. Dayeon was going to charge him before he pulled out his gun, stopping the idol on her track.

"Wrong place, wrong time ese."

Not sure when she and how she got there, but Selena was already there to deliver the nutcracker—perhaps the strongest martial move known to mankind in every conceivable universe.

"Selena!"

The gun fell and fired.

Bang.

The idol took one step back. She felt the force; she definitely got hit by a stray bullet somewhere. But before she could process it, the blonde girl had already tried to drag her away, prompting Dayeon to follow her.

"Are you okay?! Come on! Those Good Boys are going to rush us if we aren't shot to death first!"

After a few steps of running, the woman looked downwards. Blood was pouring down her exposed abdomen, where she clearly got shot. It drips onto the floor of the hall, leaving a bloody trail.

Perhaps it was the adrenaline, or perhaps it was the muscle memory she got from playing Terrasphere, that got her used to even the most gruesome of injuries, but she hadn't felt any pain just yet. Still, her legs lost some power at the sight, and her left hand pressed on the entry wound really hard, forcing her to drop her belongings.

There was no Animancy in the real world to save her. There was no telling whether the injury was fatal or not. No magic to help her diagnose which organs got damaged, whether the bullet went through or got dislodged inside her.

Her breath quickened. The next bullet could go just about anywhere, even between her eyes. The only thing on her mind was to run faster, but then she hesitated as Dayeon looked back. The two dogs were after them, but it was as if something was more important right now.

"No, Selena's still there! They're gonna shoot her!" She tugged her would-be savior's arm, trying to persuade her to stop and save the vocalist somehow. "We have to turn back!"

"The hell am I even...."

Selena looks at her bloody fist in awe for a moment as the chaos continues around her.

The world was a mad, blurry mess.

Dayeon's desire to play hero was, as it always tends to be a foolhardy one, but the officer with her did understand. Afterall That was what Sarina Fair was supposed to do, or wanted to anyway. But then came the voice of another arrival just as Dayeon's hearing and vision worsened even further from blood loss.

"There's no we if you bleed out on this floor."

The new woman and another man came down the hall. The man was firing a gun while pulling a cellphone from his suit pocket.

"Help yes! Good! Great about now!"

"Get her out of here."

"Pushed to support again. Real life sucks. Come on..."

The first mechanical dog leapt and met a roundhouse kick to the face.

This absolutely impossible scenario would be the last thing Dayeon maybe saw before the world grew dark and the chaos faded to silent order.

Consciousness returned to the sound of a .vital signs monitor. And a warm blanket, set in a cold hard room.

The walls were a soft, matte grey, and the only light came from recessed panels in the ceiling that mimicked natural daylight. Dayeon started alone here.. Her body was a wreck and quite weak but no pain besides soreness.

A piercing through the body in real life now as well. But one that won't be turning into a sword of vengeance anytime soon.

A soft hiss.
A door, seamless with the wall.
It slid open.

The same woman from earlier.. Her expression was calm, a calculated gaze but not unkind. Simply professional. She sat next to Dayeon and set a cup of coffee next to her. On the other side of the door one could have heard voices but the moment it closed the sound was cut off entirely.

"I see you're awake, Miss Song, My name is Chisato. I know you must have a great many questions. Please, rest assured. You are safe here."

A crease in her brow as she sipped her coffee. There was a obvious wound on her wrist showing from her sleeve.

"They really pushed their luck targeting you. They are sure of themselves but this time. Too sure. Nexus even took action at the location. Of course, the majority of work comes down to us. Bureaucracy in action. But what works, works."

The door opened again and a man stepped in.

"It's being taken care of. Video eiditng is already underway, they are demanding to se proof of life."

"Right. Miss Song, I am afraid you will have to cancel any upcoming concerts. You're life is in jeopardy and...."

"Hmph."

The large bald man over the bed and knelt down, he removed his glasses. Chisato said nothin to stop him. Perhaps this was better.

"Your photo, is still kept by Matthias's daughter. She doesn't admit it but she holds on to things that matter to her. To a fault. You and that other woman. Left a impression that that Nexus woman wanted for herself."

"This is Bernard, he was going by Gregory while working as a mole in the ex Nexon heiress's personal project. We had been watching VRS closely. She wasn't able to gather the kind of information we were hoping without drawing the attention of others. We will have to work more closely with the above average "Starcalled" than originally intended."

"And you, Miss Song, are one of those Starcalled as it calls you. Someone who encountered the game's door, accepted it's invitation and has survived it's trials up to this point."

Chisato's gaze was unwavering, cutting through any potential confusion with its intensity. She took another slow sip of her coffee, the picture of calm in a situation that was anything but.

"Which brings us to your current predicament. Bernard is correct; your management is demanding proof of life. They will get it. A carefully edited video, a press release citing sudden illness and extreme exhaustion. The official story will be that you are taking a much-needed, private sabbatical. Managing the narrative is part of our job. The less dangerous part."

She placed the coffee cup down, the sound echoing in the sterile silence of the room.

'"Mr Matsumada was a victim of this. Miss Nexon. People are disappearing or outright dying from a plague of circumstances that are all connected. The things that happen outside the public eye are not the conspiracies many might believe but are not a simple expected reality either."

"You know we can't just let you back out there. The people who attacked you will not stop. Whether because you involved yourself with the Nexus situation involuntarily or simply you have the potential they want. You can stay here, protected, but a prisoner for all intents and purposes. .I think you understand. You can choose to work with us or we can use means I'd prefer not to. You should rest more for now."

"There are two pills. Red and Blue. We here take red. I watched someone too young and not ready to take red. It didn't end well."

Chisato stood and placed her hands in her pockets waiting to see what her next few days of work would look like.

Bernard didn't rise and just curled a corner of lip downwards. His thoughts seemed even farther away from this room.

Roll credits on the cliffs of uncertainty.
