"Uhhhm... well... okay then..."

Cynna was currently watching a mineshaft in Redchron from deep underground with her partner, Alecto. It was currently ablaze. You see, there was another shaft that Cynna, leading Alecto, had used to reach this one: a smuggler's route that ran beneath Astorea which had become very popular in the wake of Dragonfall. Cynna's job had been to stage a cave-in of the miner's shaft so they'd leave and move on to their other veins and not chance digging across this more illegal source of revenue. Cynna had done her job successfully, a little too successfully, and now the entire mining network was threatening to go up in literal smoke.

Watching this unfold, Cynna scratched the back of her head. On top of it was a helmet with a light and in her hands was a shield she'd used to shield herself from the initial blast she made to open the way from the smuggler's tunnel to the mining one. Now there was fire. So much fire...

"Okay Alecto, in insurance terms, this is what one might call an 'act of God'. Which means, that really, it's nobody's fault..."

Cynna continued to watch the spreading flames.

"So let's think positive. The miners have clearly started to clear out, so setting the charges to crash this whole shaft should be more than easy. The collateral damage though... well~ I think I may need a little help containing that after all. Do you think you could get a head start heading up and around? Nobody's going to be suspicious of an explosion at this point, so really, it's the perfect cover up. ...I just don't want to hear any fuss about those other shafts... Maybe it's time for one of those performances of yours I'm so very fond of~ eh~? eh~? ~Maybe get someone to call the Lion's fire department? I mean, if they're gonna eat our tax dollars they may as well get to work."

Cynna gave a thumb up.

"Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and say this is one hundred percent your fault, but I guess we can set that aside for now.

Alecto listened to Cynna's idea with a scowl.

"You know, I really don't like having to clean up messes like this. If anyone finds out it was us, we're going to look like shit-eating idiots which would really make me quite angry. I pride myself on perfect execution and this type of mishap really tarnishes that image, understand?"

Looking towards the fire, Alecto began to massage her temples.

"Next time you do something, please consult me before everything goes up in flames... literally. Ineptitude isn't acceptable in our line of work."

Turning around in annoyance, Alecto headed towards the exit suddenly she stopped and turned back to Cynna.

"Just so you know, I am rather annoyed at this if you didn't gather that already."

Turning once again, Alecto headed towards the exit.

Now, what's the best way for me to handle this ordeal? Maye one of the miners? Or a miner's wife? That might work. A screaming wife that believes her husband is still in the tunnels. Yes, I could see that being effective.

Putting her hands in her pockets, Alecto walked into the sunlight.

A bit older but not too old, mid-fifties... strong build, a miner's wife... right. I've got it.

Engulfing herself in her magic, Alecto transformed herself into a slender but strong-looking human woman in her fifties.

This should do, now to just run towards town and sell the part. On your mark, get set...

Taking off at full spring, Alecto in disguise ran towards the town screaming.

"HELP! HELP! FIRE! THERE'S A FIRE IN THE MINE! HELP! MY! MY HUSBAND! HE'S STILL IN THERE! HELP!"

"Yeah, yeah~"

Cynna shrugged as she was scolded.

"Precision really isn't my strong suit, but we're still within parameters so there's no proooooblem, really!"

Cynna covered for herself while heading into the smoke with a wet bandana secured firmly around her nose and mouth.

"There's no grade for this kind of work because every job's different! It's the spice of life! Like cracking an egg, really~ every one's got a different break to it, and speaking of eggs, good lord, I'm frying in here!"

Cynna was quickly setting charges against some choice roof supports while taking care to avoid any flames setting them off early. She was absolutely drenched in sweat at this point and had a feeling if she didn't hurry she'd be getting more than a little dizzy soon.

"Ah~ hell to with it~! I'm sick of this~! I thought blowing up a mineshaft would be fun but what's the use of blowing something up that's already on fire~! Everything's backwards~! Nothing makes sense~! If there's any idiots still in here ya better ruuuuun~!"

Fed up and getting whiny, Cynna finally just throw the whole stack of remanent explosions as hard as she could into the tunnel ahead of her and ran. Not too much later there was an earth rattling boom.

"Well then." Cynna coughed. "I wonder if the managers of the smuggling route will pay extra for a new living room."

The miner's side had certainly caved in, but the smuggler's side now had an extra room's worth of side crevice, a land taxation from the former miner's shaft. Frankly Cynna was sick of everything at this point so the details were becoming less and less important. If there was any complaints she could just take a bounty job to hunt down the culprits in charge of all of this instead and take her frustrations out that way. Minus herself, of course.

"Let's get the heck out of here."

Cynna longed for fresh air...

Reaching the surface, Cynna found herself several buckets of water and dumped them on her head. Then she went in Alecto's direction.

"I think I'll stick to above surface jobs for awhile."

Arriving, Cynna messaged Alecto to ask for a status update.

Maybe you're not happy to hear from me after the big boom but I'm alive. How's the clean up on your end? Having fun yet?

Cynna squinted as she watched the crowd working into a panic.

Actually, which one are you?

"I'm not actually... though I think I have an idea to get this over with quickly so this whole mess can be over. Just wait for me somewhere out of the way, and whatever you do NO. MORE. MISTAKES."

Alecto cut off her transmission and sighed.

I'll need another face for this one...

Looking through the crowd, Alecto spotted some of the Lion's Pride firefighting team that were actively working to control the flames.

That should work...

Ducking into the crowd, Alecto found an out-of-sight spot then quickly transformed once again. This time into a twenty-something-looking member of the Lion's Pride firefighting team.

I'll just run out there and get to work. If anyone asks any questions I'll just ignore them for now. I won't be around long enough for them to try and find me anyway.

After transforming, Alecto jogged towards one of the burning open mine shafts.

"OUT OF THE WAY! OUT OF THE WAY! I'M AN AEROMANCER! I'VE GOT AN IDEA! STEER CLEAR!"

Rushing towards the open tunnel, Alecto began shouting at the other firefighters.

"I'M GONNA TRY AND SUCK UP THE OXYGEN TO PUT OUT THE FIRE! THERE'S NO ONE LEFT IN THAT SHAFT, CORRECT?"

"Yep! Shaft's empty!"

"ALRIGHT, LET'S HOPE THIS WORKS!"

Using her aeromancy, Alecto created a vortex that began siphoning the air out of the tunnel. After a few moments, the fire started to die down thanks to the oxygen being sucked out of the area.

Why the Lion's Pride wouldn't have thought of doing this themselves is beyond me. Stupidity really is so very common these days. Pathetic.

A little while later, the shaft fire was almost completely out.

I think that's enough for me. These idiots should be able to handle the rest, though even if they aren't I've done my part...

One of the older firefighters came up behind Alecto and slapped her on the back.

"Hell of a job there, son! What's your name."

"Leo, sir!"

"Well, you're going places, Leo let me tell ya. Don't know where you learned to put out a fire like that, but that's a hell of a thought using aeromancy to extract the oxygen!"

Alecto wanted to roll her eyes so bad it was causing her a headache.

He didn't even get that I'm using a made-up name to make fun of him...

"Thank you, sir! If you don't mind I'm going to grab some water. That took more out of me than I like to admit!"

"I bet! After you're done, come back here. I'd like to introduce you to all the people you saved in this here town today!"

"Yes, sir!"

Oh god, spare me. I need to get out of here ASAP.

Jogging away from the crowd, Alecto once again ducked into a dark alleyway and shifted forms. This time, finally, to her original.

"Cynna, it's Alecto. Meet me on the road leaving the town. I'm done with this place. Over."

Putting her hands in her pockets, Alecto casually walked away from the scene. Leo the firefighter was never heard from or seen again.

"Yeah I'm feeling pretty done myself. That should cover things with 'the client' anyway. Ahhhh a nice shower sounds so good right about now. Yep no more underground work for us for awhile~ As in, you know~ actually below ground, of course~ Though now that I think about it we might need to take an above level job once in awhile if we're going to maintain appearances. Heck, maybe you can go straight after you kill me... those Lions were really impressed after all, frankly I was too. That was really really smart! I would've just blown the entrance to the shaft after all, ha ha ha. I'm joking! It was a joke! (Probably.) Anyway~ You're still listening right? Right~? Alecto...?"

...I wish she'd show me the fakey sweet smile once in a awhile...

...Ahhhhh~ I'm going to get the silent treatment for awhile aren't I?! I hate the silent treatment... Alectooooo~

Ears and tail flying at half-mast, Cynna made her way to the rendezvous point.

Mission Accomplished.

The fires were contained thankfully. Only after it was ignited by a mishap from someone trying to cover up crime. The people of Spyre were all none the wiser, atleast, for the moment. One of you was quick thinking, and the dust settled. Though the people of Spyre are left confused and anxious.

...Just how easy would it be for someone to start a real fire in their mines? What if someone tried to sabotage their quiet life? For now, those questions would need to go unanswered. One of the many problems of this small town's life were solved. Sort of.

34 Progress Added to Stifling The Storm
(10 Base + 10 for closing up the Smuggler Tunnel, reducing crime in the area [for now] + 14 for putting out the fire in a timely fashion with the help of the townsfolk.)
