Personality
David immerses himself in gaming, dedicating almost all his time to it. In the virtual world, he exudes confidence and bravado. His skills and achievements in games give him a personal sense of mastery and control, allowing him to thrive in an environment where clear goals and measurable success affirm his self-worth.
However, this confident persona does not extend beyond the digital screen. In the real world, David is introverted and withdrawn, finding social interactions overwhelming and burdensome. David avoids stepping out of his virtual sanctuary into the real world. He carries memories of being excluded in real life and believes trying new things is a futile effort.
He is emotionally sensitive, often reacting strongly to in-game events and personal issues. His heightened emotional sensitivity makes him keenly aware of his own feelings but struggles to extend this awareness to others. He is insensitive to the emotions and needs of others, focusing entirely on his own experiences and feelings, often leading to strained relationships and a preference for solitude. David's reclusive nature is further exacerbated by his self-absorption. So consumed by his pursuits and inner world, he often overlooks the impact his actions have on others. This narcissistic tendency manifests as a lack of empathy, making connections with others sparse and challenging.
In the structured, rule-based world of video games, David is confident, assertive, and successful through challenges and victories. Yet, outside this realm, he is fragile and isolated, entangled in his own emotional turmoil and lacking in self-awareness. David's commitment to gaming is unwavering because it provides him with a sense of achievement and belonging that he cannot find elsewhere. His all-consuming passion both empowers and imprisons him.
David also has a strange affinity for clowns and clown-themed characters.
Positive: Self-confident, determined, passionate work ethic
Negative: Narcissistic, unempathetic, socially isolated
Background
David's introduction to the world of video games began in high school, a time marked by relentless bullying. This harassment escalated to a particularly traumatic event involving sexual harassment and public humiliation. Already struggling with low self-esteem, David dropped out of school and retreated to the safety of his room. Feeling abandoned and betrayed by society, he found solace in video games. The virtual world gave him a sense of control and accomplishment he couldn't find in real life. He started spending day and night immersed in gaming, distancing himself from the past and embracing the freedom to be anyone and do anything.
David's family couldn't understand or help him. Over time, they viewed him as a lost cause, emotionally distancing themselves from him. Isolated, David had to fend for himself, deepening his attachment to gaming. This became his primary means of escape and fulfillment. His withdrawal and self-absorption grew more pronounced with time. He built a thick shell to protect himself from further harm but also severed all opportunities for real-world connections. While his emotional sensitivity remained high, it turned inward, fueling his passion for games while rendering him indifferent to others' feelings.
The idea of starting over was unimaginable, as it meant confronting painful memories and the risk of new traumas. The outside world became irrelevant to David. For him, the virtual world was much more than just a "game." It was his reality.
David first heard of Terrasphere through illegal backchannels on the dark web. The game's reputation for its unfiltered and immersive experiences drew him in. For someone like David, who was already disillusioned with the real world, Terrasphere offered an escape that was more real than reality itself. It promised a level of engagement and intensity that no other VR game could provide. When the game reappeared in 2036, David actively sought it out. Terrasphere didn't come to David—David came to Terrasphere.
