Personality
In her real life Amber puts on a bright smile and positive attitude. Being a double-leg amputee she hates when people pity her, so pushes forward such a sunshine-filled attitude to make her friends and family believe she is okay - when that isn't always the case. She puts on a mask, more for those around her than her self. She has problems, everyone does, and she hates being the center of attention. Being "normal" is what she strives for in her life, ever since her accident twelve years ago. As a hopeless romantic she wants to find love but finds it difficult and almost feels like she has waited too long. Wasted too much time. She's content in her life, but wants more.
While in Terrasphere as Nova she doesn't hide. If she's having a bad day, or feeling down on herself she'll let you know. If she feels strongly about something she won't stay quiet. As Amber she can be introverted most of the time, but as Nova she feels free. She can still be reserved and observant but doesn't just sit back and let the world move on without her. She jumps in fully and passionately and wants to experience everything that she's missing out on in her real life. She's not going to waste any more time, she's going to live.
Positive: Open-minded, Passionate, Understanding, Obeservant, Creative.
Negative: Self-conscious, Hidden, Unambitious, Reticent.
Background
Amber grew up in a middle-class family in the midwestern United States. Her upbringing wasn't anything special. As an only child she grew up a bit reserved, never having to strive for attention but still had a good relationship with her parents. Not in the strictest of households she did what she needed to get through school, sometimes the minimum, and was never very ambitious. She had friends and enjoyed going out but school was just never something that clicked with Amber.
What did click was art and video games. She had been drawing since before she could remember and she was good. Good enough to get into a decent art school. Yet she hesitated. The art was more for herself, and well...as we know school just wasn't for her. When she wasn't making art she was playing video games, she enjoyed escaping into the different worlds. And she had no idea just how much she would need that in the years to come.
At 18 just after graduating high school it happened. A drunk driver, wrong place wrong time, the accident. When she woke up something was missing. She knew it. She felt it. Both of her legs had to be amputated below the knee. She was fitted with prosthetics, she healed. Her family and friends pitied her, she knew it, yet they pretended like nothing had changed. Their looks said differently. Amber became even more reserved and introverted at this point. Showing a bright smile to avoid questions and escaping to her room. To her art, and to her video games.
Her life grew stagnant, routine. She got a job at the local library, something that didn't require a ton of walking. She sold her art on the side. Got her own apartment. And outside of work didn't leave very often. She'd procrastinate. Say just one more year of resting and she'd get out in the world. Meet new people. Have an actual life. Until it became easier to just...not.
Twelve years passed by. She was lonely, but she was content. That was until a random email popped up in her inbox. It looked like spam, and as her mouse hovered over the delete she hesitated. She opened it. Terrasphere, a VR RPG. She had recently purchased a VR headset, had barely tried it and this was her chance. She could escape into a new world. Be someone else. Live the life she had been wasting. A new start. A fresh start.
This was her new beginning.
