Within the sweltering jungles of Isulus, Yugam tread over the thick, blue-leaf covered floor, and beneath massive, gnarled branches and roots. Humid and hot, his thick black hair lay flat against his head, plastered there by the sweat pouring off his brow. Having shrugged off his coat, in favor of some more jungle favorable attire, the man's shirt stuck to him nonetheless, the oppressive humidity practically soaking the fabric though. But still he pressed on, following the red threads tied to his wrist, if only to see what it was that his last, foggy dream had lead him towards.

Ever since the Red Fever, since he'd killed himself trying to subdue the Kuruungar Mother, every waking moment had been haunted by barely audible whispers, and his dreams forced him to either relive those harrowing moments within the belly of the beast, waking him in a cold sweat, or been vague apparitions, shadowed by a veil of forgetfulness. Piece by piece, he'd written down what he could remember, urged on by the ceaseless whispers. And by the end of it all, when he'd recollected all he could, he'd been left with nothing but the dream addled image of a woman, armored and dressed in red, starkly contrasted by the blue leaves of the jungle surrounding her.

The same blue leaves that surrounded him now. It had been only by chance that he'd heard of the blue-leaved trees of Isulus, and at first, it had felt like only coincidence. But the red threads around his wrist, pulling him towards those Aquarian jungles told him otherwise.

lion's pride...

Everything felt colorless since her death, though it hadn't been that long since that day. Nothing felt right, her movements seemed sluggish. Her feet had managed to wander back to her place of death. It was foggy now though, it was hard to see the massive crater in front of her. But just knowing it was there was more than enough to send chills down her spine. She didn't know why her feet had wandered their way back to this spot... The only thing certain to Ilya was consuming her mind. This is where I failed everyone, where I proved that I deserve nothing. Useless.

Ilya's ears swiveled to the direction of the whisper in the air, taking a tentative step towards the source. Her tail twitching as she sniffed the air. Then that feeling crept up, the feeling that everyone dreads. Where you feel like someone was watching... Her eyes flashed to the side as she turned her body, so she was looking directly behind her. Off in the distance was a shadow dashing across the horizon. Murky through the fog, she tensed up. The fur along her tail spiking up as the hairs on the back of her neck continued to tickle.

Worthless. The whisper was directly to her right now... Ilya turned instantly towards it, another shadow dashing around. Laughter then echoed across the crater, her attention now turning towards that point. Ilya pinned her ears against her head as she turned away from the crater and began to run in the other direction. The immense fear flooding her body had triggered her flight response.

Stumbling through the trees and vines and rocks, Ilya made her way further and further from the crater. The echoing and whispering insults and self-deprecation fading the further away she got from it. Her fear still instilled in her, she lost awareness of her surroundings. Focusing on making as much distance as she could between her and the crater. She narrowly avoided trees, albeit no one would be surprised if she ran into one.

Then, out of nowhere came a brick wall, her body smacking into it. Pain radiated through her body as she tumbled with the wall, their bodies becoming entangled as everything went black. Her body slouching on top of whatever she had hit, her eyes closed and her breathing erratic and hefty. (Spoiler: She crashed into Yu and is now on top of him, passed out.)

The sounds of something crashing through the thick overgrowth of the jungle penetrated Yu's ears, the snapping of branches, twigs, and leaves causing him to pause and look in the direction of the sounds. They drew nearer, fiercely approaching. Yu reached for his sword, but before his hand could wrap itself around the handle, something collided into body full force, toppling them both over.

Yu's head slammed into the ground, the thick layer of leaves only barely softening the blow to his head. Dazed, his vision blurred, the trees above swimming in duplicates of themselves, he felt the weight of a body on top of him. Was this how he got his second death?

Well, if whatever creature just pounced on him intended to strike a finishing blow, it sure as hell was taking it's own sweet time about it. As the man's senses returned, he looked down at the whatever was pinning him to the ground.

A body...a girl's body. Out cold.

Yu let his head fall back into the dirt. "Well. This is my life now I guess," the man muttered to no one in particular before gently shaking the girl's shoulder. "Hey." No response. Well, she wasn't dead, else she probably would've despawned by now. "Hey," Yu tried again, getting only the same results. Great.

As gently as he could, the man rolled the woman's body to the side, careful to not let her head strike the ground with much force, before sitting up.

"Well, shit," the man said to himself, "the fuck am I gonna do now?" He couldn't just leave her out here. Who knew what would come along and try and eat her or something. But he couldn't very well carry her either. With a sigh, the man stood, taking the girl beneath the arms and dragged her to a nearby tree, propping her up. Guess now was a good a time as any to set up some kind of camp...

lion's pride...

Everything was dancing in front of her eyes before it all turned black. She couldn't move, she couldn't feel and she couldn't speak. She could feel arms carrying her, but beyond that she couldn't sense anything. After what felt like eternity in the void of her mind, she slowly opened her eyes. Frantically looking around, her body had been propped up against a tree. Across the area was the silhouette of a man or ghost, whichever it was, Ilya didn't know. He seemed to be doing something across the clearing, he could potentially be setting up a camp of sorts.

Not wanting to wait for him to turn around, in case he jumped her. Ilya went to stand to her feet. Her legs shaking as she propped herself against the tree. Her sudden fainting session had seeped more energy out of her than she was aware, or maybe it was her run as she tried to escape the past.

Either way Ilya made an effort to move to a better position, though as soon as she let go of the tree, her legs gave out and her body fell back to the floor. "Shit." It seemed like she had broken her foot.

Taking a deep breath she glanced up at the figure, he seemed to have heard her commotion and had turned towards her. Her eyes traced his every movement, and she suddenly realized how a doe felt in the presence of a black panther.

So, the problem with having a resting bitch face was that, even when you were trying to be nice you sometimes looked like you were about to shank a bitch, as was the case with Yugam. And that was probably what Yu looked like as he turned around to look at the sounds of rustling leaves and swearing, to look at the girl lying on the ground, eyes wide with fear.

"You're up," the man said in a flat tone as he stood and walked towards her, "good." The soles of his boots sank into the soft forest floor, leaves crunching underfoot with every step as he approached and crouching down in front of her. "How are you feeling?" he asked, arms resting on bent knees, his red eyes locking onto her pale blue ones. "You musta hit your head pretty hard. You were out cold for a while there."

lion's pride...

The heartbeat that was sounding loudly in the lioness' ears calmed down as the stranger began to talk to her. Sensing no threat in his voice, Ilya let her nerves calm down. She slowly adjusted her position to be more open so she could be well-mannered. "Something was chasing me... I'm sorry if I caused you any trouble..." It had been awhile since she had seen a person, thus she had been wary of the "shank a bitch" persona that surrounded the man in front of her.

"I'm Ilya, and again. I apologize for any inconveniences." She blinked around a bit, the fog was still dense but they had a spot that was somewhat more clear than everywhere else. To the point that she could actually see the physical features of Yugam. "Why are you out here in the middle of all of this fog, anyways?" It might be a bit rude to ask right out of the blue like she did, but Ilya had no filter and always ran with the motto of speaking whatever came to her mind.

Her eyes flitted around, "And are you setting up a camp?"

Yu frowned, his brows furrowing as the girl mentioned she was being chased. So far, he'd only encountered trees and plants out here. Well, and her, but nothing else. "Chased?" the man repeated, giving the girl a skeptical glance. They could figure that out later he supposed.

"Yu," the man introduced himself, turning back to what he'd been doing. A revolver lay in parts on a large leaf. He'd been cleaning it. "I guess you could call it camp," the man answered her second question, picking up the revolver parts and reassembling the weapon. "Tried to start a fire, but everything's too damp out here. Sorry," he cast an apologetic look her way. Probably would've been nicer to wake up to a warm fire than his ugly ass. "As for what I'm doing..." She'd call him crazy if he went off about the threads of fate... "exploring. I'm new to the game, thought I'd check this place out."

The cylinder snapped into place as Yu finished putting the pistol back together, pulling back the hammer and aiming. The hammer snapped as the man dry fired the weapon, confirming everything was in working order. "What about you? And what was that about be chased you said earlier?"

lion's pride...

Smiling gently at the man she stood to her feet and brushed her body off. "I can maybe help with that..." The lioness walked slowly to where Yu had been trying to start a fire. Crouching down she rest her hands over the pile of wood. Her eyes closed carefully, tick... tick... Ilya shook her head trying to focus on her magic circuits. Finally getting them to flare up she opened her eyes. The beast's gaze swiftly flitted to Yu before shooting back to the wood. Thank gods he's still there. Her eyebrows furrowed and her eyes narrowed as she began to pull the liquid from the wood and a small space surrounding it.

With much concentration, she pulled all of the moisture out of the pile and splashed it off to the side at one of the many trees. "You should be able to light it now." Opening her inventory, she would then sort through the various food items and rations she had on her. Finding something suitable, she tapped at the invisible menu. A cooking pot flashed into existence, falling onto Ilya's lap now that she was sitting. Then came the ingredients, it was just the meat of a bunny and a few herbs.

The lioness then began to place ingredients in the pot, "How about I share that story over a nice, warm meal?" She then waited for Yu to light the fire, "Speaking of you being new to this game, are you an alcohol kind of guy?"

The mystery woman offered to help him with fire, before kneeling over the sodden pile of wood. For the briefest moment, the scent of magic was in the air. Electric, metallic, wild, like static across his tongue. It took only a moment before the moisture within was gathered, floating in the air until it was cast to the side with a splash.

"You should be able to light it now."

Pulling a small lights from his pocket, the man knelt down, striking the flint, and almost immediately the wood caught the flames. "Hmph," Yu hummed, sitting back with a pleasantly surprised look on his face. "Neat trick..." Hydromancy, perhaps?

Moments later the woman had manifested all she need to cook a meal, and offered to regale the dark-haired man with her story of being chased by whatever it was that lurked in these jungles. "Sure am," the man answered her with small smile before a bottle of red wine manifested in the air between them. "I got stronger stuff too, if that's more your speed."
