Deep inside the belly of the beast, Kamala could barely hear @Ayna Nietzsche raging against the massive machine of a limbless predator. What a state she has found herself in! She was already barely helping the magia take care of this monstrosity, and now she's sunk even deeper into the pits of uselessness. It was bad enough that she kept missing the predator. Now that she was held captive by it, Kamala had given Ayna another baggage of an objective: Rescue her friend while trying to beat the giant worm! Gah! I'm so useless... I'm so sorry, Ayna...

For a moment or two, she was almost set to give up. What else could an elf inside a giant worm do? But then she kept hearing Ayna fighting out there, trying to save her, Jonas Indie, and of course, herself. No... I can't just give up! Ayna's doing her best out there... I need to do my best in here! Finding for herself renewed motivation, the elf called forth the mending spirits of harmonious nature to help her manifest a version of the "Garden of Gwyndolainn" around her. The shielding barrier wasn't as powerful as it should be out in the open, but it did help her heal what she needed to. Coupled with her regenerative abilities, Kamala was almost fresh as new!

There we go! Now... To get me out of here... Determined to overcome becoming a burden to her friend, Ayna tried to force her way out of the giant worm. She grabbed and pulled herself to and fro, but the monster's movements made it a bit difficult for her. Its slimy insides didn't help. Still, Kamala didn't just give up. If she wanted to get out of there, she needed to do her part. It wasn't going to be easy, though, and it was already hard enough as it is. I have to... Ugh... Stay strong!

She might need a miracle to get out of there, though.

Ayna continued screaming as she dodged and stabbed the giant worm. The magia protested the creature's consumption of her elven friend, yelling out expletives whenever she could. Her rage remained at its peak throughout, though she herself remained all over the place, running to and fro, as she battled the monster on her own. Ayna could feel her energy slowly going down, however, and she feared that she may get taken down before she could rescue @Kamala Graham from the belly of the beast. I need to be smarter than this...

Despite her misgivings, as she believed the worm deserved more pain than her artificial body could dish out, the magia began to slow down, fighting smarter instead of harder. Once Kamala was freed, she'd cause it more hell than it could take. For now, however, she needed to temper her rage, to refine her attacks, to focus on the priority of rescuing her friend. The creature was no slouch, too, smashing its head, flicking the rest of its lower body, to get back at her. The flying rocks were of no help.

Hang on, Kamala! I'm coming! With a terribly frustrated scowl, Ayna used her spear to try and puncture the worm's leathery girth. She could sense the battle was coming to a close, though whether it would be a victory for her or a failure, she wasn't quite sure. Either way, she'll be reunited with Kamala. Whether as free as a bird or as food for the worm. Raaah! Just die already, you limbless fuck!

Kamala did not stop trying to get out of the belly of the beast. From within, she could faintly hear @Ayna Nietzsche working hard to free her. Why wouldn't the elf try to do the same? Kamala tried everything she could from slamming her fists against the closest part of the giant worm to kicking and even throwing herself shoulder-first at the same spot but nothing seemed to work. That was until she decided to kick herself upward, through the massive monster's mouth, with a primal scream that echoed throughout the tunnels. I'm not dying in here!

Bright light welcomed Kamala back to the outside world, though she was still sticky from the worm's fluids. Disgusted, infuriated, and still high from the adrenaline rush that propelled her to safety, she took out her magic lamp, aimed for the worm's face, and blasted it with surging but concentrated magic in the form of an actual seed that exploded as soon as it made contact with the elf's target.

"NEVER AGAIN!"

Kamala continued to scream as the worm finally met its end, slowly toppling to the ground before them, sending shards of rock and stone everywhere, including the elf's head. The stray earth almost took her out of it but her will to live was too strong. Eventually, excess nature magic from her flowed out, finding Ayna and healing her instead of the relentless druid. As her energy dwindled, however, so, too, did her consciousness, and Kamala felt herself slowly dipping. I... I'm sorry, Ayna... I don't think I can help you beat the worm... I'm feeling too...

Ayna was about to deal another world of hurt on the giant worm when she noticed something strange happening around its mouth area. When @Kamala Graham suddenly flew out of the creature's only known orifice, the magia's scowl turned into a look of wide-eyed disbelief. Immediately, she ran to where her friend was and barely caught her as she started to lose consciousness. Never mind the massive monstrosity that toppled behind them. To Ayna, Kamala was more important.

"Kamala! Stay with me! Please!"

Ayna cradled her friend's head on her lap, body bent toward her. She was most concerned about the healer's safety. Kamala was the most precious thing Ayna has ever met, and she'd sacrifice herself just to make sure the elf was safe and sound. What more could the magia have done to keep Kamala safe? Maybe they shouldn't have accepted this quest in the first place. Maybe she shouldn't have asked Kamala for her help. Maybe she should have let herself be swallowed by the massive worm instead of the innocent elf who only wanted to help.

...no. Ayna fought back her tears. Kamala wouldn't want to be treated like a child, helpless and fragile. The elf was as fierce as they came, and she was an important part of every team she found herself in. To mourn her already, before her actual death, would be a disservice to her bravery, nobility, and effort.

"You're all right, Kamala... You're safe now."

Jonas Indie joined the two girls quietly. He had nothing to offer, no aid to give. He was just a scholar, a man who wanted to know more than what he has been taught. They were the adventurers. They were his shield and his sword. They would be fine. Ayna and Kamala would not be so easily fended.

Kamala faded for a bit, though she wasn't aware of how long she was truly unconscious. When she came back to the world of the conscious, she found @Ayna Nietzsche close by, with Jonas Indie reading his parchments in one corner. Unexpectedly, it was their employer who noticed her stir first, immediately alerting the Lightning Lancer of the Lament. Kamala herself groaned and moaned as she slowly got back to her feet.

"I'm...not dead? What happened to the giant worm? Is it...gone?"

It felt strange to her, to not be panicking while trapped within the cave's walls. She was almost getting used to running around, screaming, while crammed in this heckhole with a massive monster, while trying to keep herself and her companions alive. She was slow, as per usual, but she came to realize their task was not yet done. There was still much to do, and much of Ayna to make sure that she wouldn't worry about her.

"T-That was...something. But I'm fine now, thanks to you guys. Are you guys all right? Where are we?"

Although Jonas Indie heaved a sigh of relief that the elf was all right, discreetly, he tried his best to resume his distant, professional demeanor toward them, even though he had let slip much earlier how much he cared about his companions. Of course, it could just be his sense of self-preservation, knowing that he would sooner die alone than with them, but Kamala still gave him the benefit of the doubt. "We're further in. Nowhere else to go, anyway. I'm still trying to decipher the runes in the pillars, but I'm sure they'll lead us to the museum's main chamber. I hope."

Only when he mentioned them, the ancient runes and the crumbling pillars, did Kamala realize they were closer to where they needed to be. Oh, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore...

Ayna heaved a sigh of relief when Kamala relieved herself to be conscious again. Jonas Indie didn't need to signal her twice. The magia was already beside the elf as soon as he pointed out the obvious. Still, she was grateful he was around. Carrying the elf to safety was easy. Getting ambushed while doing so would have been much harder.

"No, you're not, Kam, and yeah, the worm's...gone. All thanks to you."

The reunion had to be short and sweet. They needed to make haste. Any slower and they could fall into more danger. Ayna stated as much in her rousing speech, which was mostly just stating the facts, those very same facts. She herself didn't really need much inspiration, contrary to her own belief. The fact that she almost lost Kamala still haunted her, but it seemed her subconscious used that fear to bless her hands, allowing her to disable traps more efficiently than she expected.

"Careful with the traps, you two. Let me handle them. I've built mechanisms like this. I can destroy them, too."

It helped that she had her Magitech tools with her, basically just a bunch of wrenches and hammers, nothing fancy. Ayna had just adopted the skills most recently, but she was already way ahead of her peers. Maybe being magia helped. Maybe her real-life engineering degree helped. Whatever the case, it all just seemed to come natural to her.

+19 from Ayna's Inspire

Inspired by @Ayna Nietzsche's initiative, the elf gave her a determined nod and tried her best to come up with a general idea, attempting to predict the layout of the Lost Museum. Her eyes wandered everywhere they could, her mind tried to come up with the best possible assumptions, while the rest of her body was careful enough not to touch things the magia didn't. In front of them, she caught sight of Jonas Indie being as careful as possible as well, his scrolls in his hands.

"What do you guys think happened to the people who were once here?"

Kamala thought about the past civilizations in their world, and how most of them were wiped out by the colonizers that came and took what wasn't theirs for themselves. It was usually brutal, the shift in power and control. Either civilizations perished through violence or a strange sickness that wouldn't be overcome years later came to take them all out. Then there were the ones that just disappeared completely with neither trace nor logic. She wondered if the former owners of this now lost museum suffered a similar tragic fate and felt sad at the loss.

With Ayna's efforts, the group didn't have to contend with traps all that much. The magia used everything at her disposal, from her natural prowess at hand stuff (giggity) to her magitech drones scanning the area for traps with 99.9% success rate, there wasn't much to fear regarding traps when Ayna was around. Truly, one of the best robot butlers around. Even Jonas Indie, whose full attention was on his scrolls, could not deny Ayna's usefulness. "Good job, you two, especially you, Ayna."

"A lot of things could have happened to them,"
the intrepid explorer feigned fixing his spectacles when Ayna ignored his compliment, trying his best to move quickly to answering @Kamala Graham's question to prevent the subsistence of an awkward air around them. "They could have succumbed to a plague that wiped out their entire civilization or fallen to conquerors that shipped their people back to the latter's empire. History is not always for the faint of heart."

"So why are you studying it?"

Ayna sneered, having taken her opportunity to throw a jab at their employer. Jonas, however, didn't quite understand the attempt to assassinate his ego, so he genuinely responded to the rhetorical insult of a question. "I have the stomach for it."

"Huh. Could've fooled me."

But Ayna was well-equipped to handle him, throwing another quick jab at his ego. Still, Jonas still didn't get it. He ended up just staring at the magia who seemed busy studying her drones' assessment of the area. Internally, however, she was grinning from ear to ear, finding her torment of the oblivious scholar quite entertaining.

Kamala gave Jonas Indie a big grin, exuding massive golden retriever energy at his praise. Even though she was humble enough to not imply the need for such things, hearing someone else appreciate her efforts gave her a massive shot of dopamine. His response to her question, however, didn't give her much else. She was already on that path of thinking, so it sounded to her a bit repetitive. Still, he did praise her efforts, so she kept her mouth shut.

Unfortunately for her, and everyone else really, @Ayna Nietzsche didn't. The banter between her and Jonas seemed lopsided to the elf, with Ayna hitting him with unnecessary barbs. The intrepid explorer seemed too oblivious to the magia's stinging words, but Kamala had been playing with her long enough to know what she truly meant by those statements. She feigned a cough, trying to make her friend stop.

"Well, I for one hope your studies of the forgotten worlds progress smoothly, Mister Indie. I would love to read about your success in the future!"

The attempt to console the oblivious scholar's ego almost backfired on Kamala, though, as she found her thoughts muddled by possibilities and deviations. She almost backtracked on the path they were taking, looking around them like a lost lamb, and almost led the group elsewhere, a darkened path that seemed destined to hold traps. Fortunately for everyone, Kamala miraculously led them to safety elsewhere, barely bringing them to the Main Chamber with little to no challenge.

"This should be the right path, I think. I mean, I'm not, uhh, a tunnel digger, but the ground here seems to be the right kind of ground for such a room."

Kamala might have succeeded in her Knowledge Check but her writer/roleplayer did not.

After exchanging glances with @Kamala Graham, Ayna simply shrugged but also stopped pestering their scholarly employer. She thought they were just having a bit of fun. Sure, it was at the man's expense, but he clearly wasn't getting it. No harm, no foul, eh?

Through the elf's lead, the trio soon ended up in the great Main Chamber. For normies, the journey was long and arduous, but for the Lightning Lancer of the Lament? It was gods damn worth it! Especially after she saw the ancient treasures that filled the chamber. She wasn't as greedy as @Chrys, but the hoard still brought a smile to her face.

Meanwhile, Jonas Indie went gaga over the old scrolls that brimmed with wisdom and knowledge, as well as unknown secrets. If Ayna cared, she'd be wary about how direly dangerous those things could be at the hands of the wrong people. But Jonas wasn't the wrong person...right? Who cares?! He's just a nerd! If he goes bad, I'll just tase him. Hehe.

"How has all this knowledge remained here, never stolen?" The huge nerd muttered somewhere far from Ayna. When he gasped, she simply shook her head, oblivious to the guardian at the center of the Chamber, a creature that seemed literate if it was truly reading through that centuries-old codex but otherwise frightening at how much of an aberration it resembled. A human face on a snake-shaped body? What kind of loser would be attracted to that くそ instead of wary?

"Uhh, Ayna, Kamala..." Jonas gulped, annoying Ayna some more. "I think this is the part where you girls fight something while I hide in a corner..." At that point, Ayna's curiosity could no longer be ignored, so she turned to where he was and caught sight of the...Naga. おもしれぇ. Jonas, however, slowly backed away to run far from it. "I'll hide in a corner now."

Ayna just grinned. She unsheathed her naginata, eyes glued on the creature she has never faced before. This was either going to be quite a badass moment or perhaps it'll be the stupidest move in all of the game's history. Either way, she wasn't going to let snake momma sink her fangs into any of them first. Instead, the magia was going to pierce that reptilian booty first and see what it's made of.

"Hey there! Sorry for, uhh, interrupting whatever you were doing, but I don't get paid by the hour, so... くたばってろ!"

Ayna rushed at the snake momma, using the full potential of her momentum to pierce the reptile's skin with her blade. She tried to do the same as soon as she was in melee, but her second attempt appeared to be less effective than she wanted it to be. The Naga tried to trap the magia with its tail, but Ayna was too fast for it. She managed to avoid the serpentine squeeze, running back to the others and keeping a safe distance from the creature. Only then did she realize that her attacks didn't even scratch the damned guardian. おもしれぇ.

The Naga is a powerful, magical creature. And it bears the following passives:

Magical Retribution. When attacked by Magical Masteries, the Naga retaliates with 15 damage.

Mana Shield. The Naga has an HP damage reduction equal to its current SP. When its SP reaches 0, the Naga becomes Vulnerable, losing its damage reduction and receiving the double damage.

The Naga also makes one of these four actions against you at the end of your turn:

1 - Coiling. You must pass a DC 80 Reflex or Fortitude Save to avoid being wrapped in its tail and suffering a crushing squeeze, receiving 25 flat damage. You have 0 Move while wrapped and receive 15 flat damage at the end of your turn if you are still wrapped. You may use a bonus action to repeat the Save to try to free yourself. If you are wrapped when this action is rolled at you again, you fail the Reflex Save automatically and receive 25 flat damage.

2 - Levitate. You must pass a DC 80 Will Save to avoid being wrapped in a gravitational shift, being tossed upwards at full speed against the high-up ceiling, receiving 25 damage , and being considered 2 zones away from the combat. At the start of your next turn, the gravitational shifts again, being tossed downards at full speed, receiving 25 damage, being considered at the same zone of the combat again. This effect persists until you pass the Save, which can be repeated with a bonus action. If this action is rolled while you are under its effect, the gravitational shift happens again, and you receive 25 damage and change zones.

3 - Tail Toss. You are attacked with a tail slam, receiving 20 damage, and being tossed at your ally, also making them receive 20 damage as well.

4 - Mana Blast. You receive a blast of Mana, receiving 40 damage.

Alternatively... You may try to convince the Naga that you mean no harm and that you have no ill intentions of acquiring the knowledge it is trying to protect. You may make a Presence Contribution Check with your Standard Action. If you roll above 80 on your Presence Check, the Naga won't use any action on you at the end of your turn.

Kamala was with Jonas Indie the entire time that @Ayna Nietzsche spent gawking at the treasures she had found, trying to make sure their employer was safe. Like the magia, Jonas was distracted by his scrolls that when the Naga was first found, it was actually Kamala who pointed it out by grabbing his arm. It was the answer the elf gave the intrepid explorer but not the answer the intrepid explorer wanted. As soon as he saw the guardian of the chamber, he ran to find safety somewhere, which Kamala had agreed with. He wasn't as well-versed in fights as the two were, which was why he even hired them in the first place.

When Kamala turned toward Ayna, the latter had already pounced on the creature, though to no avail. The elf could only scream her friend's name as she traded blows with the Naga, only for no real progress to be made for either side. Ayna was too quick for the guardian while the guardian was too strong for the magia. Quickly, she stepped forward, raising a hand before her, a little above her head, trying to get the guardian's attention. Before more damage could be wrought, the elf tried to mediate between both sides.

"Wait, please, आराम से! Calm down! We're not here to hurt you, contrary to what my instinctive friend just did. We just want to find this place, study it... We mean no harm."

The Naga paused. It took a moment to shift its attention from Ayna to Kamala, staring at the elf in confusion. Or maybe it was introspection. Maybe the Naga was gauging the believability of Kamala's statement, her argument. It seemed smarter than most monsters, so that was possible. Unfortunately, Ayna did just attack it from out of nowhere, so the success of her persuasion was pretty much a miracle at that point.

The Naga considered the idea, but they did not believe in miracles. Its eyes glowed purple as it concentrated on the elf, trying to wrap her in a gravitational shift. Kamala groaned, her eyes instinctively closed, feeling herself getting crushed, pressed unto herself, but only momentarily. She resisted the guardian's attempt to levitate her without her consent. I've been बेचारा before, and I don't like that feeling.

"Ayna, सुनो, do what you have to do but don't kill them! They're just doing their job! Just knock them out or something! Non-lethal! Please!"

Kamala did her best to inspire her friend not to just take out the Naga with zero hesitation. It seemed like it understood her for a bit. Maybe it could be more helpful to them alive than not. Whatever the case was, Kamala did not want to kill such a creature. They had to at least try to negotiate a more peaceful resolution.

Ayna gave Kamala a huge grin as she charged her spear once again, purple lightning crackled all over its sharp tip, ready to go to round two with the snake dude. Or dudine. Dudette? Whatever. She was going to Thundershock this ugly, overgrown Arbok. It works well in cartoons. Why not in this game?

"Aye, aye, Captain!"

With zero hesitation, Ayna ran straight toward the Naga, stabbing it with lightning-charged steel. Not just once, but twice. Pivoting on her heel as she transitioned from the first thrust to the second. As graceful as a ballerina but as precise as a surgeon. Even with Kamala's inspiration, however, the Lightning Lancer of the Lament barely inflicted any semblance of pain on the creature. She clicked her teeth in exasperation before easily dodging its vengeful tail. Ayna threw herself back, next to her partner-in-definitely-not-crime, before the damned thing could coil itself around her feetsies.

"I think it's using some sort of magic shield? My lightning can barely touch it."

Ayna clicked her teeth again, annoyed that she wasn't easily plowing through the scaly monster. This was perhaps the first and only time in her gaming life that she felt her strength and her speed was being challenged, and by a slimy reptile no less! What an insult! Ayna eats snakes. She doesn't get eaten by them. Wait, eels aren't snakes... That actually explains a lot.

"ざこが... うるせんだよ. Though, if you can destabilize it, I might be able to break through its stupid shield."

It was a hard sell, Ayna knew that within herself. They weren't sure what kind of shield the damned serpent had. Could be one based on its HP. Could be one based on THEIR HP. This game was tricky that way, but still, it was worth a shot. What could they lose? I need to be faster!

Kamala watched as @Ayna Nietzsche did her best to subdue the Naga, only to barely ruffle its featherless scales. She heaved a sigh, concern growing from inside her. The Naga has barely pressed its strength against them as well, so it was basically a stalemate. Would they be able to outlast the guardian, though? She wasn't as confident on that matter.

"Goodness... Okay, I'll try my best, यार."

Kamala took in a deep breath, trying to calm herself down in order to better manifest her magic better. Illusory vines of various thicknesses started to slither around the Naga, attempting to restrain the creature. The elf tried to be as careful as possible, not wanting to hurt the guardian who was only doing its job. Whatever knowledge was kept here, it must be so valuable that the Naga would risk its life protecting it. Hopefully, she thought to herself as she stole a glimpse of Jonas Indie, their employer knew what he was doing and would not abuse such gifts.

"Please, my friend, just आराम से! Let's come up with a compromise where no one has to get hurt!"

Kamala concentrated on her magic as the Naga tried to break free. It seemed too much for the creature, allowing the elf's lips to form a smile as a brief appreciation of their possible victory. "Brief" was an appropriate descriptor. The Naga, upon realizing breaking free from the illusion was the least useful of its options, instead blasted the elf with mana. Kamala only realized the horror of the attack after she got hit, sending her down to the ground.

Only then did she realize that the Naga didn't seem to have been hurt that much by Ayna's earlier attack (mostly because inspiration only applies to "checks, contribution, saves, buffs, or heals" and not damage rolls, silly us). Oof! The Naga... It's too strong... Kamala started to grow worried again, this time the feeling was worse, mostly because she got hit when she least expected it. Fortunately for the elf, the nature spirits felt her negativity and immediately swarmed her, healing her with all their grace and compassion.

"Thank you, my friends!"

Kamala took a moment to make sure the spirits didn't worry about her too much. With their help, she was feeling much better. The threat of the Naga still loomed before them, though. If they get hit again, she hoped it wouldn't be as bad. Yet a part of her feared the worst.

When @Kamala Graham restrained the Naga with her illusory vines, Ayna immediately rushed toward the creature with her spear already charged with lightning from within her. This time, the guardian appeared much more susceptible to the magia's dual strikes. As soon as she pierced its flesh with her charge, she immediately jumped backward, using the momentum for additional speed, and then hurled herself at it once again. Two times the shocking charm!

"Ha! Finally! Gotcha, you overgrown snake!"

Yet Ayna's celebration was made short when she caught a glimpse of Kamala getting blasted by their shared adversary. The magia impulsively shouted the elf's name, but before she could do anything else, was also blasted by the same naga, throwing her back next to Kamala. Oof! That...wasn't part of the plan.

Grunting, Ayna pushed herself off the ground and got back to her feet. She was feeling a little annoyed, more emotionally pained than physically, at getting blasted by a damned snake man. Or woman. It was hard to tell. Do these creatures even have a concept of gender? But she had more important things in mind. Turning to Kamala, she shot her a look of concern.

"You okay, Kam? We can run if you want..."

The suggestion was more for her than the elf. Between the two of them, Ayna was the one who could just carry her to safety, out of there, if need be, fuck Jonas Indie and his money. But Ayna was also the one who had the reputation of being too stubborn to give up, and she wasn't going to change today. Kamala was always the voice of reason. This could be the most reasonable thing to do at the moment. That or die together underneath these sands.

Kamala turned to @Ayna Nietzsche with a look of determination. With a nod, she tried her best to reassure her closest friend in the game, and outside of it, that there was nothing to worry about her. Nothing at all.

"I'm fine, यार! I'll keep up with you. Just need to help the guardian see reason..."

The elf then shifted her gaze toward the Naga. Extending her hands toward her, with all fingers stretched outward, she channeled her magic and implored the nature spirits that she had befriended to help her clear the guardian's mind. The same white and green light flowed through her, accompanied by phantasmal leaves and the scent of spring flowers.

The Naga instinctively tried to fight it off, but as the warmth of Kamala's magic enveloped the creature, not unlike an innocent embrace from a worried friend, illusory spores surrounded it to make it more susceptible to Kamala's suggestion.

"आराम से, यार! Just take it easy... Calm down... We're not here to hurt you. We're just here to respectfully share in the knowledge you're protecting..."

Kamala's efforts seemed to work, as the Naga started to take it down a notch a bit. The guardian didn't try to blast anyone this time and instead looked at them with a much calmer expression, ready to listen.

Kamala turned to Ayna with a smile, humbly celebrating the fruits of her labor. Maybe Ayna could surprise everyone there by being the one to actually talk the guardian down. Or was that too much of a miracle to ask for?

Ayna was already raring to have another go, another tussle, with the Naga, but when she turned to look at @Kamala Graham, she heaved a sigh. It was that smile, that dang smile, not to mention the look in the elf's eyes, that made her ease up. The battle was over, apparently, and all she had to do now was convince the guardian they did in fact come in peace. Can't really do that if Ayna continued tasing them again. Gods damn it...

"Fine, fine, I'll stop tasing the snek."

Ayna shook her head, chuckling to herself, as she loosened up and stowed her spear on her back. With another sigh, she turned to the Naga and extended a hand as a gesture of, well, friendliness. Never mind the fact that the Naga didn't actually have hands. It was the thought that counts, right?

"Look dude, or ma'am, whatever works for you, I don't judge, or care... But what the elf said is true: We're not here to, uhh, rob you or something. That coward over there, the scholar, he just wants to share whatever it is down here you're protecting. We good?

Ayna pointed directly at Jonas Indie who was cowering behind a sandy outcrop. When she turned back to the Naga, the guardian appeared to relent. Maybe it was as smart as them, maybe even smarter than her, or at least Jonas. Heck, it would need to have some modicum of intelligence to consider its options, right?

The Naga slowly grinned at the magia. Or at least tried to, its mouth contorting into a more terrifying version of a grin. Was that how the snake creatures grinned? Bah, who cares?! The more important thing is that all's well that ends well. Kamala has again accomplished a feat Ayna has always been skeptical of: Getting shit done without that much violence. If Ayna had her way, though—

Blam!

Before she could finish her thought, the Naga blasted her in the knee with pure mana energy. The force was so strong, it took Ayna's leg out from under her, making her fall face-first into the ground. In a matter of seconds, she was eating dirt, the loud thud of her face hitting the floor a nasty but well-deserved karmic justice.

"Yeah... I deserved that."

Ayna groaned as she spat out sand, her head a little woozy from the faceplant. The Naga let out a horrifying but brief chuckle. The guardian had a sense of humor? Who knew?! Ayna almost felt sorry that the humongous snake person had to endure all that loneliness under all that sand...as she wiped the tiny spurt of blood from her nose.

Kamala watched keenly as @Ayna Nietzsche tried to convince the guardian of their good intentions. Despite the battle they all partook in, neither side had malice or cruelty, more from the intruders than the guardians, as Kamala could not speak for the Naga. She could barely understand the creature's language. If it even had one.

An imagined sweat began to form across her brow as Ayna nonchalantly downplayed everyone's efforts to hold on to their differing views, their respective duties. The guardian had to protect this place while Jonas Indie had to learn what was down there. Kamala at least understood that everyone was just doing their jobs, what they thought was right, even if Ayna was getting a little carried away with all the lightning crackling around them all.

When the Naga grinned at Ayna, Kamala heaved a sigh of relief. It seemed that the battle was over, and there would be no need to continue fighting. With a smile, she turned to where Jonas was hiding and motioned for him to come closer to them. There was no need to be afraid anymore. The miscommunication was finally fixed, the misunderstanding resolve, the—

"Ayna!"

The elf screamed when she heard the blast and the thud, instinctively turning to find her friend on the ground and as if on cue, rushing toward her to make she was all right. Well, alive. She just got shot down, obviously, so parts of her would not be all right, would be hurting, but maybe, just maybe, she could minimize some of that pain if not alleviate all.

"Are you all right?"

Kamala's vibrant green eyes grew wide with concern as she tried to help Ayna up, all while scanning quickly her body for any bruise or wound that might need her magic's attention. When she couldn't find anything, she turned to the Naga, who was laughing apparently, with a scowl. Well, as much of a scowl as she could muster.

"That wasn't very nice!"

At that, the Naga just stared at them in confusion. To be fair, they were tasing and strangling the guardian. A quick blow to the knee wasn't that big of a deal to it, and debatably shouldn't be anything of the sort to them as well. It was just karma, righting the scales for balance's sake.

But Kamala didn't appreciate her friend getting bullied, so the Naga just heaved a sigh and made way for them so they could continue their mission, so that Jonas could study whatever it was he needed to study. Kamala didn't care much about any of that, only that Ayna was safe and fine.

Before things could escalate further, Ayna held @Kamala Graham's hand with her own. She turned to the elf with a grin as she tried her best to rein in the wince of pain her face instinctively made when she got herself up to one knee. The hurt knee. The knee that got blasted from under her feet.

"It's fine. I'm fine. Now we're even."

Ayna let out a loud chuckle as she then turned her full attention to the Naga, rising to her feet and putting an arm around Kamala's neck for support. At the same time, the gesture she believed would more actively prevent the elf from accidentally breaking their already tense truce. Through no fault of Kamala of course. If anyone was at fault here, it would be the magia herself. But the squabble was over now, and she wanted it to stay that way.

"Right, guardian? We're all friends here! No malice or whatever remains. Just... Jonas! Go and do your shit!

As soon as Ayna screamed his name, the intrepid explorer scurried forth to meet the now-tamed Naga guardian of whatever knowledge was stored here in these labyrinthine walls of sand and stone. Jonas was still wary of the snake creature, and for good reason, but he wasn't going to get out of there without the adventurers, so he decided to swallow that fear and be more practical.

While Jonas and the Naga did their thing, Ayna winced again, dropping herself back to the ground when she saw the two had gone and looked away. They were still in their line of sight but they both seemed preoccupied with all their intellectual discourse. What a bunch of nerds!

"Okay... Okay... Now that they're busy with each other, and I'm still in pain, can I get some healing, Kam? I don't want to look weak or vulnerable just in case that snake creature changes its mind..."

Ayna groaned as she took a look at her wounds and bruises. They weren't that severe but they were still a bit painful. Probably should've adjusted that aspect of her gameplay, but it's there now. No use crying over spilled milk. Or spilled blood. Time's a wasting if they don't just move forward. Or something.

Kamala was about to blast the Naga with her magic, even though she didn't really want to, but fortunately found more reason not to when @Ayna Nietzsche held her hand tightly. When she turned to look at the magia, she saw her smile and felt able to heave a sigh of relief. Her friend was all right. They were all right. They will be all right.

Shifting her gaze toward the guardian, she was mildly surprised and very much relieved when the creature simply nodded at their pair.

It then turned its own gaze toward Jonas Indie who was dragging his feet to it after Ayna called him out.

Although the intrepid explorer was scared of being gobbled up by the majestic but also horrific Naga, he figured out it was then or never. He would never get a better opportunity than this one, which meant he had to strike while the iron was still hot. So he awkwardly introduced himself and started asking questions and noting down the creature's answers. Or what he believed were the answers through its motions and the things it pointed at.

Meanwhile, Kamala focused on Ayna's injuries. She wasn't interested in whatever the guardian and the explorer were discussing. In her most honest opinion, the past is the past, and lessons from it should be learned and understood, not exploited and displayed in museums or wherever Jonas planned to share them. Still, it would benefit others, who couldn't journey to these places, to learn from the lessons of their past.

"I know that you like to guard against pain, against joy, and I understand why, Ayna..."

With outstretched hands hovering over the magia's arm, the elf manifested illusory vines from out of nowhere. These wrapped themselves around her limb like a makeshift cast. Or more appropriately like the bandages of a mummy.

"But when you allow yourself to be blindsided by love, do you know what happens? Two worlds become a universe."

Kamala then closed her eyes and muttered a prayer in Yladian as the illusory vines glowed a bright green for a moment or two before disappearing into puffs of lighter green, wisps of smoke turn spores until they were no more, taking with them into nonexistence any pain Ayna was feeling and any bruises or wounds on her arm.

"You'll never look weak to me, Ayna. You'll never be weak. And even though some people may think you're my weakness, it will never be true. You're not my weakness. You're my universe."

As she finished her healing spell, she looked Ayna in her purple eyes with a warm smile, the warmest she could muster. She had already said the same things numerous times, but every now and then, it was good to remind friends and family how much they truly mattered to you. You won't lose anything, but they would only gain good things from such honesty.

Ayna watched as @Kamala Graham began healing her, more curious as to what she was saying and where she was going with it than what was actually happening to her artificial body. It was strange, having a druid heal you when you weren't of nature, when your body was unnatural, but then again, Kamala's healing magic went beyond the surface-level knowledge of most of their peers. She was one of the best, if not the best, healers they had ever had in this world, in this game. It was a bold statement, but it was not without strong evidence.

"I suppose... Not feeling pain is a weakness in itself: One wouldn't know when to stop until they get put down."

The magia smiled as she felt a strong sense of calm as the elf's magic "fixed" her. Something about Kamala's magic always made her feel good. Maybe it was included in the healing process. Not just healing physical wounds but also emotional ones, mental ones, until new ones come along to reopen old wounds. They say time heals all, but Ayna was pretty sure time, as with any healing of emotional and mental wounds, only helps temporarily.

"...and you are mine, Kamala. You are my universe. You are my strength. You are amazing. Let no one tell you otherwise."

Ayna held Kamala by the back of her neck and carefully closed the gap between their foreheads. She closed her eyes, savoring the peaceful respite from the battles and the wars. It was in Kamala's garden, her company, that the magia always felt at home. They were more than friends. They were kindred spirits. Without Kamala, Ayna would be lost. That was a fact even the universe itself knows.
