Dev Diary #8

Preamble.

Hello, hello and welcome back to another Dev Diary. In this entry, we're going to be talking about the faction revamps.

Progression.

I actually had an entire google doc outlining an entirely new progression system based on the tier of play (rookie, intermediate, veteran, master), but honestly, none of it really matters because this is a roleplay. So, we're going to KISS, no not that kind of kissing. There will be a rough guidance on ranks, but otherwise, you're in charge of all of that.

▶ Q: But, what will happen to all the special titles you previously got through progression?
▶ A: They will be gatekept through threads or story events... most likely.

▶ Q: Do you get anything for repping a faction now?
▶ A: You sometimes get a cool faction Action Card in specific threads.

▶ Q: How does faction hopping work?
▶ A: Same as previously, delete your post in one roster thread and post in the roster thread of the faction you're going to be repping. When you swap faction, you won't be able to use any faction Action Cards for 30-days (since your character is considered a provisional member during that time).

Faction Changes.

The changes below have been made to make the theme and function of factions clearer. Future main stories will see factions taking a step back unless it directly ties in to their function and faction plot. These changes are made so there are less emphasis on factions.

All of the previous friendly rivalry between the factions will be written away. These factions work super closely with one another so there isn't a need for there to be animosity between them.

Lion's Pride

Not much has changed with the Pride other than their functions being clearly defined. At the end of the day, the heroes just need a foil to work, and the Aristocrata's been dipping their toes in all of the calamities around the world. For the people who enjoy Spy X Family, you can now join the Kingsblades subdivision.

Since the Lions excel at public safety and is of course its own form of Knighthood, they are in good standing with other Knight Orders and often gets contracted by the Guild to deal with adventuring crimes.

Lions, roll out!

Functions:
  • Law Enforcement
  • Helping people
  • Detective work
  • Bounty hunting
  • Counter subterfuge (fight back sabotaging attempts from the Aristocrata, which is spreading their influence to all corners of the world)
  • Emmergencies (help the masses in time of crisis, i.e. escort, medical, firefighting)
  • Relaying information to the people and between factions
  • Thwarting terrorism
Divisions
  • Knights. The Pride has reforged their oath to protect the entire world, not just Astorea, even if they themselves are shunned by association.
  • Kingsblade. The previously-called Kingswatch has rebranded themselves into a counter-intelligence force whose aim is to fight against the threat of the Aristocrata, whose involvement was made clear in the events leading up to the DRAGON.end event. While the Knights serve as the face of the Pride, the Blades thwarts Aristocrata and dangerous cults in the shadow.
MIT

It is difficult for the MIT to exist as a player-faction, since 99% of the time, they are gatekept by DM knowledge. There's a high chance that this faction will be converted into an NPC faction, that way, its members aren't completely in the dark most of the time. This is a roleplay that heavily favors adventuring so it's difficult to play the kinds of characters tailored for the MIT functions.

You can still interact a great deal with this faction since faction content isn't locked and the MIT are often looking for consultants with particular expertise.

  • Administration. The backbone of the MIT that run all the facilities and ensure researchers can do their work in peace.

Explorer's League

If you're on the 1.0 Wiki, the Whistles have basically renounce their deathpact. From the 2.0 Wiki onward, this is basically a completely different faction, whose sole focus is on the thrill of exploration. It attracts crazies who wish to see everything the dangerous albeit beautiful world has to offer, even if it means they die for it.

Due to their prosperous partnership, Whistles get a lot of funding from the Adventurer's Guild for discoveries and information on dungeons.

  • Securing: establishing safe zones in undiscovered or dangerous areas or dungeons
  • Field Research: research remnants of the past or the ecology of the exploration area

Adventurer's Guild

Due to the fact that the Aristocrata has been linked to the events leading up to DRAGON.end event, the Guild has completely separated themselves from them and other illicit contracts. In the 2.0 Wiki, the Guild will be the default faction that deals with all adventuring, specializing in extracting resources from dungeons and monsters. Even if your character is a part of other factions, they will likely use the Guild to find parties to delve dungeon with. Any resources from dungeons and monsters are bought and processed by the Guild and their network of tradespeople.

The main driver of the Guild is profit. If the Pride's work mostly involves people, then the Guild's work mostly revolves around monsters.

Trading Companies & Craftsman Guilds

With the advent of Expertise 2.0, Trading Companies and Craftsman Guilds such as Endra's Favor will be looking to exploit work with Starcalled looking to make coins through tradeskills.

Aristocrata

With the Starcalled repuation in the gutter after the events of Dragon.END, the Aristocrata has gained more influence in the overworld. Since the Guild has chosen to shut them out, this shadow cabal has once again recruit contractors, namely Starcalled who see no reason to protect the very people who shun them. Contracts are out thereif money and influence in the underworld is what one desires.

Characters will be able to work with this group once more, however, they may not represent them!
