Preambles.

Hey everybody and welcome to the first Dev Diary, which is meant to keep you guys up to date with the development of the Season 5 Mega Patch.

Let's start with the topic everyone's been waiting for: Masteries.

Mastery.

A lot of these changes have been in the works for a long while. Throughout Season 4, we noticed that there are a few masteries, which identity was very confusing and most players only used a part of it to fit their character's aesthetics, so we went back and revised the list and made sure to give each mastery a more focused identity.

Going into Season 5, there is a fundamental system change that will allow you to specialize in a base mastery instead of pursuing an Alter mastery. This also comes with an icon overhaul to elevate them to the same level of prestige that Alter masteries hold. Since there are more masteries to choose from new, starting next season, your character can have a max of 6 mastery slots.

  • (NEW) Gravimancy: Gravity magic, all about manipulating the mass of particular objects, making them lighter or heavier, defending oneself with pressure-based attacks. This mastery was taken out of Astramancy.
  • (NEW) Cryomancy: Self-explanatory as to what all it does. This mastery was taken out of Hydromancy.
  • (NEW) Spellbane: This mastery is all about defending against, countering, reflecting, or stealing magic. A return addition from TS1. This mastery was taken out of Guard Arts.
  • (REVAMPED) Shadow Arts: A mystical art involving the use of smoky shadow for stealth and movement. All mentions of Ninjutsu, thief skills, and assassination have been taken out.
What happened to Ninjutsu? Very specifically-themed masteries will return in the future in the form of story unlockable masteries. Look forward to them!

  • (REVAMPED) Astramancy: Astramancy has shed all of its extracurricular weight (foresight and gravity) to focus on balls-deep magical girl flashy af damage. This mastery is now Offense instead of Defense.
  • (NEW) Electromancy: Self-explanatory as to what all it does. This mastery was taken out of Aeromancy.
  • (NEW) Subterfuge: This mastery is all about disguise, non-mystical movement and stealth, and thief skills. This mastery was taken out of Shadow Arts.

  • (NEW) Divination: Divination is all about looking at the threads of fate and acquiring vision of the future to support others. Think Astrologian from FFXIV. This mastery was taken out of Astramancy.
  • (RENAMED) Holy Magic: Undecided between light magic and holy magic. Renamed in order to avoid confusion about which divine one is drawing power from.
  • (NEW) Flow Magic: Magic expressed through movement and rhythm. Harmonic magic previously encompassed far too many different themes and ideas. The separation should help with more specific flavor such as combining this mastery with martial weapons (i.e. Sword Dancer), or straight up meme dancing the damage off your allies. This mastery was taken out of Harmonic Magic. This mastery will be recombined into Harmonic Magic.
  • (REVAMPED) Harmonic Magic: Harmonic magic is ALL about the expression of magic through song and music, including music instrument skills and singing.
  • (NEW) Lore Magic: Magic expressed through oracy and writing. This is a new idea where there are mundane folk spells that are memorized or recorded and passed down, and through collecting those, one learn to express other forms of magic through oracy and writing as well. This mastery was taken out of Harmonic Magic.
  • (NEW) War Arts: Hey you, yeah you. Have you ever wanted to scream at people and heal them? Well now you can. Introducing the Levi mastery, shout at people to heal them. This mastery was taken out of Harmonic Magic.

No changes, only tentative icon revamp.

Here's some tentative updates:
  • Chronomancy has been moved from Support to Defense
  • Subterfuge has been retired and combined with the Crime Expertise
  • Hydromancy has been moved into the Support family.
  • Holy Magic has been named light magic.
