Personality
Zera has lived a life plagued by misfortune. It is as if some higher power has decided to pick on him for its own amusement. Despite this, or perhaps because of this, Zera has always lived a humble lifestyle and has taken the world around him very seriously. He is quick to analyze and assess dangers and has a sharp wit built as a defense against what has befallen him over the years. He cherishes those who show kindness, forgives those that slight him, ruthless towards tyrants, and is terrible to those that hurt others.
His years in the army have taught him restraint while also forcing him to develop objective reasoning and a sense for strategy. To him, every situation is a challenge made all the more difficult by his poor luck. Over the years he has embraced the difficulty of his life though he does often (and quietly) complain about his constant grieving.
Very self-conscious, he was cursed from a young age with a large build that his parents forced him to develop. He is well aware that he appears frightening to others and it hurts his heart. He tries not to show how much it bothers him, but in the end he is only human.
Positive: Benevolent, Cheerful, Compassionate, Forthright, Gentle, Intelligent
Negative: Well-Meaning, Unfortunate, Meddlesome, Silly, Boisterous, Self-Loathing
Background
After ten years in the military, one would think that a person with a relatively good track record and several awards would be in a good place in their life. Not Marc, after a childhood filled with endless accidents and misfortunes he went into the military in order to try to do something with his difficult life. Unfortunately, that only served to draw his misfortune upon his unit which had to work many times harder in situations that would have been normally passable, even easy. They hadn't missed how their misfortune had come around the time of his arrival and efforts had been made to deliver retribution when he was discharged.
He'd been a soldier and had even qualified to become a field medic while studying to become a doctor throughout his service. He had even made it as far as finalizing his doctorate but was thwarted in the end by scheming and jealous eyes, his test results discarded and he was accused of cheating. How could a walking behemoth possibly have such a sharp mind?
Nearly penniless, Marc lived a very simple life working at shelters and hospitals as a volunteer. He was paid under the table by kind people and managed to make enough of a living to get by. In the end, though, the powers that be couldn't tolerate even that for him. One of the shelters close to his heart came under the focus of a group that they owed money to. He took it upon himself to help them, asking the group what he could to do settle the debt.
He was instructed to test a modified Terrasphere headset. There was a risk of dying just by using it, but in exchange, the debt would be cleared and they would even fund the shelter for the next ten years. With no family to speak of, Marc simply embraced the opportunity to help someone with his life. He quickly changed the beneficiary of his veteran's life insurance policy to that of the shelter and accepted the deal.
Little did he know that at the same time he was putting on the clearly dangerous and faulty headset, the world of Terrasphere was going through an event that was already causing glitches and UI problems. It was the perfect storm. Even his character creation was fraught with problems...
