Personality
Whether it is in-game or in real life, Kiriya is completely convinced that he is guided by an unshakable sense of justice and that his true calling is to obliterate evil. But, despite his fascination with justice and vigilantism, he feels powerless in the real world. This fact alone is what draws him to Terrasphere, which gives him the overwhelming strength to become a true hero.
Regardless of how powerful Kiriya becomes in the game, it was not real life where the forces of evil exist. As such, his real goal and motivation to play the game is to get in with his current employer, Nexus Corp while acting as a double agent.
As such, most of his game time revolves around figuring out how the technology behind the game works and reporting it back to both Nexus and his real employer. Although this is true for most people who end up getting into the game, Kiriya finds himself spending more of his time off in the game as of late because of his admiration and curiosity about the technology used to make the game. It intrigues him.
Since part of his job is to interact with other players and NPCs, Kiriya often deflects his social awkwardness with cringy lines or shrouds himself with aloofness as a solo player. When he is not on the job, he hones his deadly skills on evildoers and monsters without remorse.

Background
Everything about Kiriya's early childhood and family life is as generically middle-class as they come. He grew up inculcated in the nerd culture maintained by his parents who were fanatics of futurism, video gaming, and VR technology. In fact, his father was a part of the team that developed the prototype for what would evolve into the most commonly-used VR adaptor today.
Of course, his parents' values were passed down to the young Kiriya, who developed the same interest and hereditary talent in the field of CompSci. As as a young teen, however, Kiriya spent a lot of sleepless nights desensitizing himself to human atrocity, and as such developed an unnatural obsession with vigilantism and a savior complex.
While other teenage boys spent their time climbing the social ladder and hitting on girls at school, Kiriya spent all of that time imagining himself as a knight, who walks the thin line between light and dark, good and evil. With how brutal and unjust the world is, someone had to rise up and protect it, even if it meant miring in brutality and violence.
Despite picking up swordsmanship and really training himself for a couple of years, his effort was fruitless – he was not physically gifted. At that moment, Kiriya realized that the only kind of vigilantism he would ever be able to do were white-collar ones.
And so, he hit the books hard, skipping years of high school and entering the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he got a degree in CompSci with a concentration in VR programming.
During his time in the MIT, he became acquainted with Chelsea (@Lady N), who told him about the evil of Nexus Corp. Kiriya immediately believed her and joined Nexus's new Terrasphere research division as an intern where he plans on working up the wrung of the corporate ladder to expose and take them down.
Well… that was until they assigned him to collect data on Terrasphere as part of his job…
