Personality
Santiago is first and foremost, determined. Once he truly puts his mind to something, he will relentlessly pursue it until the end, even if it might be detrimental.
Though it's not something he's fully at terms with, he was a bit of an adrenaline junkie in his youth, and even into his adulthood. Though he could be considered courageous, the prospect of a challenge can inflame his pride, and lead him to bite off more than he can chew.
Despite this, he is not brash- no matter what goal he has settled, it will not achieved with half measures. All the tools within his capacity will be employed to accomplish something.
In social circumstances he is a cheery man with self-awareness enough of his pride to act humbly, he takes (most) things with stride, having lived long enough to know that spells of poor luck are merely a temporal thing.
Instead, he saves his concern for others, which leads to compassion- especially for youths, though that was perhaps too wide category in Terrasphere.
There is a great respect he holds for nature- even the deer he shoots and the fish he hooks. He will marvel at their strength and beautiful, and even after the hunt he honours their struggle and thanks mother nature for her bounty. It yet remains to see how this attitude translates to Terrasphere.
Morally, Santiago is driven deontologically, though he can be very flexible in pursuit of his goals. Even if he would rather not, he is no stranger to dirtying his hands if needed...

Background
In general, Seamus Fisher had led a good life, even if others would say otherwise. A degree in engineering that would go to little use, winning the lottery for Vietnam, and a fishing career that wrecked his body? Not great, but water off his back.
For despite that, he had the things that mattered- enough money to live, a family to love, a boat to tinker, fish to reel and hunting to do.
What else was there for an old man to complain about?
He was content as he could be, really. He expected to spend the rest of his years in relative peace.
Then his grandson died a sudden and unexpected death. An illegal ''VRMMORPG"- a false world that fooled the senses of thoroughly that he had been lured to it- like a albacore to a hook- and reeled away.
He had cursed whatever higher power that came to mind in those early days, and whatever that had taken his life even more so. But time smouldered all emotion, whilst the government suppressed all leads, and all he was left with was a mouthful of soot.
Four years later, and he was resigned to salvaging what peace was left in his life. But just as he went through an digital album one last time, an email popped up on his phone.
Seamus stared.
A hot stab of anger pierced his heart. He could not forget that name, not ever.
Seamus exhaled. A cold splash of sobriety cleared it up.
This was the only chance he would get to learn the truth. And he had lived long enough to know that he could not trust nor trouble anyone else with something like this- not even his family. He would not get them involved in something so dangerous.
It was for the best that he did this himself.
Seamus laughed. Some things never changed. His old lady must be shaking her head from the pearly gates.
Then, he scanned.
In the end, every man's life ends the same way. It is only the details of how he lived and how he died that distinguish one man from another.
Someone had to learn what his grandson died for, even if he might learn how his own end would come along the way.
