Personality
Ryou was taught to be considerate and kind to others regardless of who they are. She is kindhearted to everyone she meets, especially now that Kat has helped warmed up her cold exterior. Ryou wanted to be the best in all of her classes in primary school, secondary school, and college. She read whatever books she could get her hands on and was constantly studying. She isn't just limited to book smarts, in order to get places, she had to be street smart as well. It helps when Kat gets into trouble. Ryou is loyal to a fault. If someone shows her kindness and support, she will follow them to the ends of the earth. She cares deeply for her family and for Kat and would do anything for them. She will defend them, even if it costs her.
Even though she is more laid back than she once was, she is prone to hovering. When protecting others, she tends to not respect their boundaries. She becomes reckless and disregards her safety when doing so. Ryou believes that she's always right. She will go against other people's opinions if they don't match her own. Talking to her while she's stubborn is like talking to a brick wall, someone can try but it's hard to break. Although Ryou is resilient, she believes that life will give her the worst hand possible because that's the way it's always gone for her. She doesn't give up, but thinks bad situations are the end of the line. She doesn't hope for the best, she just prepares for the worst.

Background
Ryou was born on May 17th to a poor family in Yokote, Akita. They always wanted her to excel and be the best so that she could take care of them when they got old. She did just that, finishing at the top of her class. After finishing university, she got a promising job at a company as a bookkeeper. While not entirely well-paying, it would keep her mostly afloat. She took all of the overtime and extra projects she could get. She sent the majority of her paycheck to her family in the countryside so they could have a better life, the rest was for the rent of her tiny apartment in Tokyo and whatever convenience store food she could afford.
It wasn't exactly the life she had thought of when she moved to the city, but if it helped her family, she would go through it for them. After months of overtime, she could feel herself sinking. She wanted to do something fun, something out of her comfort zone so she went to Kat's bar. She always felt like Kat was genuinely kind to her in contrast to the attitude she gave to the male customers. Ryou got drunk at her bar multiple times, sometimes even leading to Kat having to get her a taxi home. Despite her drunken stupor at the bar, she knew better when a man would try and get Kat into a secluded place.
After being a patron of the bar for a while, Ryou started getting gifts that she felt only Kat deserved. Whatever Kat had, she always had something for Ryou as well. Her rent was being paid, she was being bought groceries, all thanks to the kindness of her best friend. This eventually led to them both being gifted VR adaptors. She had never heard of anything like it. Ryou wasn't the type to play video games. On top of all this, Kat had made promises on behalf of them both that they wouldn't keep. Despite the harrowing experience of going through a long and exhausting legal battle, she stuck with Kat through it all. They got closer and fell deeply in love. They had finally earned their VR adaptors, and reluctantly decided to jump in.
