Aurora is distant.
Friendly, but not affectionate. Polite, but not kind. She is, by nurture and by experience, closed off yet sociable, the sort of person to drink tea and make small chat, the sort of person who could listen to your problems and empathically respond, but the person who will allow herself to be in that same position of vulnerability. Perfection is her desire, and she cares little for the opinions of others, whether it be individual, societal, or national. One has one life to live, and if they live carefully, they should be able to live more or less as they wish as a private citizen, free of exterior influence.
That, perhaps, is what she sees as happiness. She will fulfill what obligations are necessary to remain presentable within the restrictive society she finds herself in, but beyond that, Aurora feels no particular need to so thoroughly bind herself with others. She works for herself. She fights for herself. She eats for herself. She lives for herself.
And yet her job has nothing to do with herself.
And she finds herself in Terrasphere still, unable to live with herself, in the city of lights that never stops growing.

Background
Aurora doesn't make a habit of talking about her, but in chatter with clients, in conversation with a far-too perceptive employer, there are still snatches of her life that make it into her words.
Her parents moved to the Chinese countryside after falling in love with each other at a coffeeshop in London. Her mother's side of the family wasn't happy to have a foreigner and his infant daughter being grafted into the family, but foreign husband meant foreign money, and he was willing to work in the farm, willing to give them a grandson that was at least half Chinese. The daughter though? A brat, petulant and aloof, disrespectful to her betters.
She moved to Hong Kong after high school, having scored high enough in the Gao Kao to get herself into the University of Hong Kong. Internships and co-op opportunities came with it, and Aurora worked plenty while pursuing her business degree, making the connections that will secure her future career opportunities.
She dropped out in her second year and found herself a little closet of a room to rent out.
Began working as the receptionist of a private investigation firm, taking calls, taking notes, taking clients. Sharp-eyed and polite. A smile fixed to her face no matter how long the hours grew. Her hands became callused as the months passed.
Around her, the city grew taller and taller, towers blotting out the sun and piercing the smog. Scaffolding and cranes flowing from block to block, the sky through her barred window shrinking and shrinking. Her savings grew with it. Her wardrobe did too. Her jewelry box, her shoe collection, her diet. In another year, a new home. Turns out, an ever-evolving city offered an ever-growing income.
Turns out, being professional didn't require four years of study.
